Photosmart 7520 ink cartridges

Q1)  I have a 8 month old Photosmart 7520 with 5 ink cartridge slots.  Previously I have only needed to buy the large black 364XL ink cartridge.  Last week, as my colour had run out,  I bought the 364 4-pack, which to my surprise has a large black, small pink, blue and yellow cartridges  -  no small black.  Can I buy the small black separately?
Q2)  I was also surprised that all 5  ran out simultaneously, whilst still showing a small amount on screen.  Are they designed to stop after so many copies, regardless of any ink left in any of the cartridges?
This question was solved.

The small "black" cartridge is a photo cartridge, you can buy a 364 or 364xl photo cartridge separately.
There is a priming process that uses some ink when a cartridge is replaced to remove air from the printheads.  If some cartridges are low on ink (but perhaps not completely depleted) changing a different cartridge may cause enough ink to be used to deplete the low cartridges.
The document here has information on how ink is used in the printer, the Photosmart 7520 is an IIC printer in the terminology of that document.

  • Photosmart 7520 ink cartridge

Not exactly an install question, but recently purchased Photosmart 7520.  In trying to replace the set up ink cartridges, the regular size cartridges I have purchased are too big and won't fit the ink tray.  This is not the XL size, just the regular size.  Where exactly am I supposed to get the proper ink size cartridge when the HP cartridges for this printer won't fit?

I'm glad your problem is solved.
    Thank you for your feedback!

  • Photosmart 7520 ink usage

I have a photosmart 7520 all in one printer.  Question:  When regular black ink cartridge is depleted, does the printer automatically use the photo black cartridge to provide ink in order to continue printing?  If so, does it continue to do so until the photo black cartridge is depleted?

    figubedu
Short answer:  No, the cartridges are not interchangeable in this sense.  The photo black and regular black are for different "black" uses.  Need both.
You might be able to get away with switching the Printing Preferences > Advanced > Print in Grayscale (On)
You might be able to get some sort of output from the printer that way if you really do not want to replace the black cartridge for some reason.   The only issue is the one mentioned:  different backgrounds, image printing, documents, the like -- need different blacks.  ??
Maybe one of our Printer Experts can tell us more.
You can order replacement ink to ship to your location from HP SureSupply
Free shipping and shipping is ultra-fast, too, at least in the USA.
I use the 564XL cartridges of all the colors in my 7520.

  • HP Photosmart 7520 ink overuse

4 years of owning this printer, when it work it is nice (though the self feed is shot and not used much) Problem is I HATE the ink consumption!!!!! I have it in the preset printer config BUT it goes through way too much picture ink. I can't locate the problem or a way to change it. In all the years I have owned it I have to replace the photo black 7 to 1 over the regular black ink.  I still have 2 regular ink carts in the drawer that will likely go bad before I ever need them. Such a waste of product and time.FYI I have the settings on regular, I NEVER have printed even 1 picture (Though I have a whole stink load of paper and envelopes from every  time I purchase a ink kit) If I were not already bald I would pull out my hair. THE ONLY time I can get it to use the regular black cart is when I go to grey scale by manually changing the print settings

    Welcome to the forums @swashington007
If I understand correctly, you are looking to print in black ink only from your Photosmart 7520. I have located a very helpful thread by my colleague @MissTeriLynn that I would like you to see, read and try. If her post does not cover a certain concern of yours, please feel free to write me back and I will do my best to help you!

  • HP Photosmart 6510 Ink Cartridge Problem

My HP Photosmart 6510 does not recognize the BRAND NEW HP ink cartridges that I put in it. I have tried cleaning the cartridges and still nothing happens. "It just says ink cartridge problem. One or more cartridges appears to be missing or damaged. Install or replace the affected cartridges." and it shows all 4 of them. This is not the first problem I have had with this printer.

@nolacarvill - I understand that you are getting an ink cartridge error on your device. I would look at this document here that addresses ink cartridge rejection errors for your printer. It will provide you with troubleshooting steps to try in an attempt to remove that error message. I know that you have mentioned that you have already cleaned the contacts on the cartridges  but I would repeat that process and also clean the ones inside the printhead to ensure that all build up has been removed from the device. Buildup on the contacts can cause false error messages.  I hope that this helps.

  • Photosmart C6280 Ink Cartridges - CB284W vs C8775WN

I recently purchased ink cartridges for my Photosmart C6280 printer.  The new cartridges were CB284W but what came with my printer and what comes up when I search for ink for my printer is C8775WN.  Is there a difference?  When I asked the seller what the difference they said "those were starter cartridges", but didn't specify which ones they were talking about.  Please help!

    Hi,
Although this document contains a different error message, the troubleshooting steps will guide you to hopefully satisfactory results.  This will walk you through resetting the printer.

  • Photosmart C7283 Ink Cartridges

I've moved from the UAE to Europe and brought a Photosmart C7283 printer, which I purchased in the Middle East back in 2007, back with me. However, the ink cartridges available in europe for this printer are referenced 363 (as opposed to 177) and the printer will not accept them. It appears the 177 cartridges are not available in Europe.
Is this printer basically unusable in Europe? I thought HP was supposed top be a global company?

You will need to Contact HP to request a "Regionalization Reset". There should not be any charge for this, it is covered as part of the cartridge warranty. You will need to have access to your computer and printer while on the line with HP. You will also need to have a set of cartridges for the new region, once the reset is complete cartridges from the original region will no longer work.  HP's web page on the subject is here.

  • Photosmart 5520 Ink Cartridge rubber seals

    Hi,
I have just openied the lid on on my HP Photosmart 5520 to replace the inks.  I noticed that the rubber seal which surrounds the ink inlet nozel is missing from 2 of the colour cradles.  They are easily removed and I can see that they are linkely to stick to the cartridge when they are removed and therefore easily thrown away.  Are they important and will the printer operate without them?  Where can I get new ones?

Hi Dave, could you please take a photo of this and post it here to the Forum?

  • HP Photosmart 7515 ink cartridge not working

I had attempted to look up previous posts about this problem/issue.  I did not originally find any until I sent out my post.  Then this support link was sent to me: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01641815 I followed it and cleaning out the vent hole on the cartridge seemed to do the trick.  Thank you! Tom

The black 546 XL printer cartridge that I recently installed in my printer had been working fine and now I get not black printing.  The ink supply on both the printer and the utilities tab show that the black cartridge is at least 80% full.   I replaced all of the color and photo cartridges and left this black cartridge installed and tested.  I get color but no black. I then replaced the black as well with a new 546XL and then the printer works and prints color and black.  I re-installed the non working black cartridge and again no black printing.  This cartridge is fairly new and hardly used but now is not working.  It has a warranty date of 2016/09.  Am I able to get a replacement and how would I go about that? Thank you, Tom

  • Photosmart 6520 ink cartridge

Bought my printer in Canada, was at that time using cartridges 564 XL. According to HP web page for Norway I should use catridges 364, and they don't sell catridge 564 XL. However when using cartidges 364 I get an error message "Incompatible cartridges"  Can I change any settings on the printer to get the 364 cartridges to work ?

  • 564 black ink cartridges

Printer model:  HP 7520Ink cartridge calls for 2 black cartridges--one regular and one XLThe black replacement cartridges I've bought to replace the smaller (regular) one do not fit the carriage. They are the same size as the XL. I've bought cartridges in two different stores and neither fits. The printer will not function without all five cartridtes (2 black, and the 3 colors).

I have this image of a Photosmart 7520 ink setup that may help -- the example image does show the photo black cartridge having the "bow tie" on the cartridge instead of the newer style tiny camera image that is imprinted on new photo black cartridges; nonetheless, the image does also show the rather "giant" larger "regular black" color cartridge that can be used on the far right.  Except for the rather outsized "regular black" cartridge, the XL color cartridges are not overly large, that is, they fit in the same slots as do the regular sized color slots for the cartridge of that designated color.  Reference Posts by our Provost Bob_Headrick: Photosmart 7525 and Incompatible 564XL Black Ink Cartridge Question regarding Photosmart 7525 / Photosmart 7520 – five ink cartridges Please offer Kudos to Bob's Posts to show support and appreciation.   When you see a Post that helps you,Inspires you, provides fresh insight,Or teaches you something new,Click the "Thumbs Up" on that Post. Click my Answer Accept as Solution to help others find Answers.

  • How do I get the "non HP Ink Cartridge" pop up to go away??? HP Photosmart 7520

After my trial ink ran out on the HP Photosmart 7520 I installed a non-hp ink cartridge.  It prints fine but EVERY SINGLE TIME I print anything I get a pop up saying I have a non-hp cartridge installed and the quality cannot be guaranteed.  It then gives me the option to shop HP online, cancel the print, or click ok to close it.  EVERY SINGLE TIME.  I print a lot of pages and this is extremely annoying.  There is no "do not show this message in the future" option.  How can I make this stop popping up????

OK, you're receiving this error because of the non HP cartridge you've installed. This message can be bypassed by selecting OK; it will not go away until you install HP ink. Until then you should be able to print.
