Photosmart 8150 cartridge problem

Hi  my printer has HP97 & 99 installed yet I was told that HP343 & HP348 were the replacements. The message on my printer says the cartridges are not compatible. Now i'm told that HP97 & 99 are USA  and the 343 & 348 are European equivalent. Does anyone know what on earth is going on? does anyone have an answer?

The cartridges are specific to a particular region of the world.  When you first use your printer, a region is set in your printer based on the cartridges you first used.  For example, if you use cartridges from the US, the printer determines that you're in the US and expects US cartridges after that.  If you use cartridges from another region, the printer will tell you that those cartridges are not compatible.
Contact HP Support and tell them you need help with your cartridges. HP support they can change the region on your printer so it will accept the European cartridges.

  • 7520 Photosmart Printer Cartridge Problem Missing or Damaged

I am looking for help because we keep getting a cartridge problem stating one or more cartridges appear to be missing or damaged. When we bought the printer, we had problems getting the cartridges to work. This is our first time changing any color cartridges and we get this same issue. After two days of trying everything, as soon as I logged on to this site, the cartridges decided to work. But I am hoping someone can give suggestions to make this process easier in the future. We followed all directions and put in read HP cartridges that were brand new. We could get all but blue and yellow to work. Then we could get yellow and not blue; then blue and not yellow. The system keeps giving the message Cartridge Problem.

Ours is now working, but I have no way of knowing what we did differently to get the cartridge to work. They are all HP cartridges. We just kept putting them in over and over. I had given up and logged on to this chat room and suddenly it recorgnized the last cartridge. I was hoping someone could give us a hint of what the problem would be so we could avoid it next time. My only suggestion to you is to keep trying. Sometimes it helped with one cartridge to tilt it slightly. It is very frustrating because you are correct that you cannot do ANYTHING until you fix the problem. If you could at least print in black and white, it would not be so irritating. We have owned a number of HP printers, and this has never been an issue with the prior ones.

  • Photosmart 7520 Cartridge Problem

Hello.I am having trouble installing replacement cartridges for the Photosmart 7520.  I place them in, locking them in place as I should and keep getting the error "One or more cartridges appear to be missing or damaged".  They are HP cartriges so that is not the problem.  I have taken them out, cleaned the sensors as it says in my troubleshooting guide.  Sometimes when I close the access door it will tell me another cartridge is not working too.  Any help would be appreciated.ThanksTK

I despair of this problem.  My siimple HP3420 was a model of reliability. I bought the PhotoSmart 7520 in March 2013 and it has been a constant nightmare. I have wasted hours when I should be productive, removing and refitting cartridges, cleaning contacts, wiggling cartridges and surfing the 'net looking for a solution. If I breath near the cartridges they are prone to showing up as 'missing or damaged'. It makes no difference whether I use cripplingly expensive HP cartridges, HP refills or third party cartridges. There is clearly a MAJOR problem with this model and the manner in which it is constructed. Meanwhile my daughter's printer (which I won't name in deference to this being a HP forum) operates smoothly without any problems of this type. It also has a better design allowing straight through paper runs, which makes a big difference when she prints images on thick paper/card, while the HP invariably scuffs the leading edge. I doubt that I will ever buy a HP again after this. For what it is worth I usually get the printer to work again, but can never figure out what did the trick. As I write this magenta is not recognised, I have cleaned contacts, unpligged the cable, removed the print head cradle, and tried several genuine cartridges. On and Off the photo black comes up with the same message, and then it is okay again.  It could be any of them - this seems to be a problem across the machine, not specific to a single cartridge bay, which would suggest a local problem. Meanwhile the machine is totally useless as there is no workaround to allow me to carry on (say with black only printing. Simply dreadful. I greatly resent the time I have wasted over the last two years with this problem.

  • Cartridge Problem on Photosmart 7525

Have error message on HP Photosmart 7525.  Cartridge problem - one or more cartridges appear to be missing or damaged.  We have replaced the ink cartridge twice and still have the error message on the small back cartridge.

Same problem here with Photosmart printer

  • HP Photosmart 6510 Ink Cartridge Problem

My HP Photosmart 6510 does not recognize the BRAND NEW HP ink cartridges that I put in it. I have tried cleaning the cartridges and still nothing happens. "It just says ink cartridge problem. One or more cartridges appears to be missing or damaged. Install or replace the affected cartridges." and it shows all 4 of them. This is not the first problem I have had with this printer.

@nolacarvill - I understand that you are getting an ink cartridge error on your device. I would look at this document here that addresses ink cartridge rejection errors for your printer. It will provide you with troubleshooting steps to try in an attempt to remove that error message. I know that you have mentioned that you have already cleaned the contacts on the cartridges  but I would repeat that process and also clean the ones inside the printhead to ensure that all build up has been removed from the device. Buildup on the contacts can cause false error messages.  I hope that this helps.

  • How do I use HP Photosmart 8150 software with Windows 7?

I recently bought a new PC that uses Windows 7.  When I purchased my HP Photosmart 8150 several years ago (and used Windows XP), it came with software that could be used for importing pictures, editing, cropping, printing different sizes, etc.  That software is not compatible with Windows 7.  Is there a patch or upgrade out there that I can download to get this up and running again?

Your printer can be used with Windows 7 as the basic driver is included in the operating system. Some older printers are not compatible with Windows 7 at all.
If you want a printer with software that has all the bells and whistles you will, unfortunately, have to upgrade to a newer model.

  • Can't setup Photosmart 8150

I was having trouble viewing ink levels on my Photosmart 8150--up until recently working fine. I saw HP had new software so I downloaded and installed. I've been through Apple tech notes, forum notes, called HP and I'm stymied. I'm working on a G4 desktop with 10.3.9.
After installing and uninstalling a number of times--and I tried the minimum install, too, downloading the Printer Repair software and running and running, repairing permissions in Disk Utility, checking disc in Disk Utility, dumping the com.apple.print preferences, connecting the printer directly to the computer USB port--This is the current situation. If I log in as the root user and run the Print Setup Utility, when I try to add the printer, I get server error. (I tried entering the codes Apple gives for this problem in the terminal. Did not solve.)
The console says this:Mac OS X Version 10.3.9 (Build 7W98)
    2006-03-26 16:41:19 -0500
    DebugAssert: Third Party Client: ((__null) != m_lock && 0 == (*__error())) Can't create semaphore lock [line 60, file /Volumes/Development/HP/Mac-Software/mac-software/core/HPEventHandler/Sources/H PTMNotificationManager.cpp]
    tb2 host[406]: LaunchApplication(/Applications/More Utilities/Timbuktu Pro/Timbuktu Pro.app/Contents/SharedSupport/Timbuktu Host Menu.app) Of course, HP knows nothing about the Event Handler.
I tried turning everything off in Timbuktu. I tried dumping the HPEventHandler. Someone in the forums suggested dumping HP Communications. After all this If I log in as myself (I'm the administrator) and try adding the printer, I get print driver not available. Although, as I said if I log in as root, I get the server error when I click on add the HP 3.0 software.
At one point I uninstalled the gimp printer--in fact I uninstalled all HP printer software, as well. Then I thought I'll reinstall the gimp-printer and maybe at least I can get it going that way. NO, same results.
However, I did realize something while reading the instructions for installing gimp-printer. It says "go to the Sharing pane of System Preferences and click the checkbox for Printer Sharing; changing this setting will reset the print spooler. As far as setting up a USB printer is concerned it does not matter whether Printer Sharing is turned on or off, it is the act of turning it on or off that resets the spooler." When I went to turn off the printer sharing--it won't turn off! Neither in Print and Fax or in Sharing. I tried trashing the preferences for the system folder although I 'm not sure I succeeded, because everything seemed the same when I rebooted. So somehow I think it's related to this and I suspect someone knows something to put into the terminal to reset things, but not me. I can print test pages in the HP toolbox.
I really don't want to reinstall the whole system. I have Quark and Photoshop and they don't like to be copied.
As you can see, I'm game for trying to solve problems by myself, but I have run out of ideas.
If someone out there can help me, you will have my undying gratitude.

    Desktop G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

After much angst, I resolved this issue. I don't know if this would be the recommended solution (there was much searching and trials) but--
the answer that worked boiled down to this:
Followed HP's advice that I believe someone posted here: remove entire HP printer folder from Library, trash all printer pref (com.apple.print), repair system pref (I guessed this meant repairing permissions), trash it all. Then my own idea was to reinstall the minimum install with the original disk to avoid the HP Event Handler crash. That crash was gone, but I still couldn't get the Print Setup Utility to recognize the driver!
I had recently installed Gimp Print 4.2.7 in my effort to get the printer running anyway I could. Also the HP tech woman told me my printer couldn't print PostScript fonts and I wanted to use those fonts. Now I had the following crash in the Crash Reporter:
    dyld: /usr/sbin/cupsd Undefined symbols:
/usr/sbin/cupsd undefined reference to _ipp_freeattr expected to be defined in /usr/lib/libcups.2.dylib
/usr/sbin/cupsd undefined reference to cupsstrcpy expected to be defined in /usr/lib/libcups.2.dylib
This happend no matter what I tried. I was going blind an mad trying to understand UNIX code, which previously I knew nothing about.
Finally, I extracted with Pacifist, libcups.2.dylib from two later versions of CUPS packages (1.2b2 was one) and exchanged it with the one installed, by logging in as root. Still had the same crash and no printer.
Then with Pacifist I extracted the file from the original Panther installer. Hooray! no cuspd crash, but six new ones! All the CUPS backends were crashing:
An example, and they were all the same:
    dyld: /usr/libexec/cups/backend/ipp Undefined symbols:
/usr/libexec/cups/backend/ipp undefined reference to _sigset expected to be defined in /usr/lib/libSystem.B.dylib.
(By the way these are all found in the Crash reporter through Finder-Go-Go To Folder.)
So then I did the same thing with the backend folder (extracted it from Pacifist, logged in as root, and exchange the files. I didn't throw away any files, just in case.)
When I rebooted, and checked the crash report, I couldn't believe it--no crashes!
But when I checked the system log xinetd wasn't loading. I don't know what this is but CUPS seems to want it. In my researches I had come across this website:http://www.mandrake.demon.co.uk/Apple/osxprint.html--I followed the website instructions only through turning FTP on in the file sharing preferences, since I wasn't interested in sharing my printer. By the way, some how through these steps File sharing for the Printer was now off.
I went to Printer Setup Utility and setup my original HP printer driver. It worked! Jubilation! Then I set up the Foomatic printer for HP8100--didn't work. And installed the Gimp Printer for Photosmart 1100, the closest they had to mine. It works, too, but the original Photosmart Printer does a better job than the Gimp. It seems to print PostScript fonts just fine and my test photos were better just using the HP Printer Driver.
I see undending questions about not being able to set up printers posted, so I thought I would post my solution here. If it's not as coherent as possible, it's because I'm fried. This has taken me at least two weeks!

  • My HP2575 give's "Ink Cartridge Problem - Remove and check cartridge on right"-error

    Hello,
I have a HP photosmart 2575 all-in-one. For just a couple of month's I use my black 339 cartridge and suddenly it give the error "Ink Cartridge Problem - Remove and check cartridge on right", with means the black cartridge. I always use original HP cartridges and have never filled them by myself or other people. Because the expire date is just a couple of weeks late, HP won't support me.  For now I put a new cartridge in the printer, with works fine. How can I solve this problem with my cartridge? It has enough ink for many prints to make, so I don't like to throw that away. I hope you can help me with tis matter.
    Thanks a lot.

  • INK CARTRIDGE PROBLEM CARRIAGE WON'T MOVE 7520

my error is INK CARTRIDGE PROBLEM............. but no matter all attempts suggested( like plug,  unplug , turn off and on.  hp download to scan problems did show the ICP being the issue).   the carriage won't move to the center.  i was in the middle of installiing new hp 564 cartridges.  took out the first cartridge black and i did not have another to fill spot. tried to install old c artridge.  shut printer cover and next i went to open it the carriage won't move to the middle.  ran the scans for testing and all say INK CARTRIDGE PROBLEM and the control board will not allow me to get out of that message to run any tools from the control board.  Please help.................please.  Have warranty but do not know what that will cover if problem cannot be fix.

    Hey there @lynnriley0785!
I would be happy to provide some help regarding the ink cartridge problem error on your Photosmart 7520!  The first thing I suggest is to plug the printer into the wall outlet directly if it is currently in a power surge protector or extension cord. This may sound silly but this will ensure the printer is getting full power and may eliminate any unnecessary troubleshooting. If the printer is no longer getting full power from the power surge or extension cord it may give false errors, have poor connection, paper feed issues, quality issues and jam issues.
If the carriage is still stuck in the printer with the cartridge problem error then I suggest removing the power cable and trying to manually move the carriage with your hand.  If the carriage moves then remove all the cartridges, close the printer and plug it back in.  Once the printer comes back on see if you can install the cartridges again.
If you cannot get the carriage to move remove the power  and check for any jammed paper in the printer.  I have provided a document with instructions on all the places to check for a possible piece of jammed paper.

  • Cartridge problem

I started to replace my low ink cartridge (564XL Black) then realized I did not have a new one on hand.  Tried to replace the old one for the moment till I get another--now I am getting a message that the cartridge I out back in is damaged or missing.  I ordered new cartridges but should this happen?

    Hey @annie44,
Welcome to the HP Support Forum.
I understand you're encountering a recurring error message on your HP Photosmart 7520 e-All-in-One Printer.  I would like to assist you with this.
Thanks for letting me know what you've tried already.  You are definitely on the right track troubleshooting-wise.  With this type of error it won't hurt to repeat some of those steps.  I have located an article from HP that presents an ordered solution process that you can try:
Ink Cartridge Problem: An 'Ink Cartridge Problem,' 'Incompatible Ink Cartridge,' or 'Ink Cartridge F...
Click on the above-noted heading and start on Solution 2.  Work your way through the steps in sequence and keep trying subsequent solutions if the error persists.  Solutions 8 and 9 involve cartridge and printhead replacement - if you get that far and the error persists, please let me know the result of your troubleshooting by responding to this post. There is a higher level printer reset you can perform, but I will only provide that via private message if all else fails.
Best of luck and have a great weekend!

  • Ink cartridge problem lock out

Hi.New user. New printer.  Printer has colour and black catridges. I have run out of ink before and changed both black and colour cartridges. My wife ignored low black ink alert and now the printer screen shows :- Ink Cartridge problem. The following cartridges must be replaced. The rest of the screen is blank except for a little black bow-tie. No other bars or colours, no buttons no icons. I have changed the black ink cartridge (twice) to no avail. I have downloaded new software (update release 30th july). I have cleaned contacts etc. No fix so far. HP printer and scan doctor just tells me to fit a new cartridge. I can print with the black cartridge removed. ( Single cartridge mode) .Next move is to reset to factory defaults but I haven't found out how to do that.  HELP !   PLEASE!

  • Psc 2410 ink cartridge problems

Years of super service, then I replaced the 57 color cartridge.  The printer has not worked since.  Several cartridges later, both 56 and 57's, cleaning and what not, I get Alignment errors and told to remove and replace the cartridges.
Any suggestions? 6 good hours into this.

Hello @MsLC, and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I see you are having ink cartridge issues.  I would like to help!
I'd suggest starting by removing the ink cartridges, and performing a power reset on the printer.  Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.

What about the other colors?  The Photosmart 8150 has permanant printheads and requires ink in all the colors to be available for servicing to prevent damaging the printheads.

  • Hp photosmart 8150

I have an hp photosmart 8150 printer. It will not accept a color ink cartridge - says "color cartridge failed" I have cleaned cartridge and printer with swab as well as tried a different cartridge. Still get the same warning every time. HELP

Same here! Black 99 was in first; it ran out (color had a little left, but I decided to replace both while I was at it). Bought two separate Black 96 cartridges, and even after repeated cleanings I get that same message.
Don't bother calling the help-line; the first customer service rep "had to switch headsets" (he never got back on), and the second one said she would "call me back", but only after offering to mail me replacement 96 cartridges instead of refunding me the money I sank trying to use the "quality" HP products I bought. I will buy Lexmark or pull out my old dot-matrix printer before I give money to HP again. Do yourselves a favor and buy from a different company.
