Photosmart 8450 prints are distorted

My Photosmart 8450 has started distorting the image on the photos and the cradle keeps jamming.  Also, the edges of the photos are wavy.  Has anyone else experienced these problems?  If so, are they repairable?

I got things to print propely when using a memory card (!) I must be 'old fashioned' for trying to print from desktop via cable.
I went from:
http://www.fractalfreak.com/wx/c310_1.jpg
Where every image printed too dark, despite modiftying the printer properties from hp solution center (paper type, color management, max dpi,, etc.). Always printed too dark. The middle image, which printer properly, was a test print made during the end of installing the printer software.
I then transferred some images to a 1GB sd memory card. Images printed via memory card look good. Apparently that's why printer does not include a USB cable - you're intended to print from memory card. Windows XP interface to printer buggy. Also, .png and .bmp (lossless) file formats not recogized by printer - only jpg ??
Printed from memory card image brightness looks good (matches test image finally)

  • Photosmart 8450 prints three pages on computer start-up

My Photosmart 8450 prints three pages each time the computer is started up. There is only a header on the pages, each of the headers begins with USBC then some additional letters and characters. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the printer and have tried to restart the computer numerous times. Is there anything else I should try?

    HI daveyboy47,

    Hi Justwantono,
HP Photosmart desktop printers do not have an internal memory that stores scanned images, copies, or print jobs.  Make sure any camera cards in the front slot have been removed.
    I hope this helps.

  • PhotoSmart 8450 aligning the cartridges and color matchingr problems

I have problems with aligning the cartridges and color matching on my PhotoSmart 8450 printer.
    Aligning the cartridges
I just replaced a cartridge on my PhotoSmart 8450 printer. I always use the original Vivera cartridges.
After replacing the 343 tricolor cartridge, the 100 gray cartridge suddenly gave smudge results.
I did a lot of Clean cartridges and Align cartridges before getting acceptable results.
The clean cartridges printout still gives small imperfections in the top grids.
    Color matching
Most of the time I print on plain paper. Ocasionally I try to print photographs.
In fact my PhotoSmart 8450 never really printed photographs in the right colors.
Always too much blue and too little red... To solve this I decided to use ColorMunki Photo.
But on the Colormunki test print some of the colors are smudgy.
The settings are Paper type (HP Premium Plus Glossy), Quality (Best: 600dpi, PhotoREt), Real Life Photography (everything off), Color Management (I tried ColorSmart/sRGB or Managed by Application).
The result is stripes and or smudgy appearance in some of the colors.
Doing the same on plain paper (Standard or Best;  ColorSmart/sRGB) gives good results.
What can I do to solve both problems?
    Thanks for helping.

    Hi,
It looks as if you have done a lot of troubleshooting already, however it maybe that the cartridge is displaying minor color mix which should be apparent if you try to follow procedure in this support link, the stripes or small imperfections you have mentioned may be linked to partially missing color or colors which could also contribute to the appearance of photographs printing in the right colors.
Hopefully this will give some assistance in resolving the issue.
    Thanks

  • HP Photosmart 8450 (8400 series) stops working after Leopard Install

I upgraded my MAC Pro and iMac to Leopard and now my HP Photosmart 8450 printer will not work with either one. As other people have pointed out, the driver is built into Leopard, so not clear how to fix this or if there's a patch...any thoughts? Forget about HP support, they want to charge a fortune for telephone support. - Alec

How won't it work? Are you able to add the printer? Have you taken any troubleshooting steps, such as resetting the print system and then re-adding the printer. Were the HP Leopard drivers installed when you upgraded?

I have the same problem and I contacted customer support by phone and they said it was the power cord.  They sent me a new one, plugged it in and the lights still blinked.  I called customer cupport again ad the advised me to unplug the printer and press down the #sign button and the number 6 and plug the printer back in at the same time. I did that and it actually reset it self and I had to put in the Web Key, etc... It started to print again.  After 1 week, the same thing happened again and this time the #sign and 6 did not work. I am currently on the phone with customer support.

  • Printing from iMac G4 to HP Photosmart 7760 – Colors are heavy on pink side

    Hello~
We have an iMac G4 Flat Panel using OS 10.3.9 and are connected to the HP Photosmart 7760 Printer.
When we print directly from our camera card, the printer prints fine. True colors.
When we print using any software application, (ie Photoshop, iPhoto) the printer prints extremely heavy on the pink side. We have installed new cartridges, have cleaned and calibrated the printer, have unplugged and restarted the printer and still to no avail we have pink tinted photographs.
    Could someone help please?
    Thank You!

It seemed to be nothing involving our printer. A recalibration of our computer display did the trick.

  • Using USBTB For LW 360; Must I Switch HP Photosmart 8450 To CUPS Driver?

This weekend my LaserWriter 360 quit printing under Snow Leopard. No DIP switch/driver combo would resurrect the printer...
Fortunately, I found the discussion regarding using USBTB (http://discussions.info.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2519106&tstart=120) and now the LW 360 is up and running!
My question: must I now switch my HP Photosmart 8450 to a compatible CUPS driver? I assume that the answer is "yes" but i would like to continue using the HP driver if possible...

That would be a separate issue. If it works now, it should still work. The only reason you would need a CUPS driver is if you are using a print server that needs it, or if you are printing through Window sharing.

  • HP Photosmart 8450: use Leopard driver, or do I install HP's software?

I've successfully installed the HP Photosmart 8450 by just attaching it to the Leopard Mac, and the Mac recognizes the printer and picks the right driver.
However, it seems this is just the driver alone, and does not come with the interface that provides multitudes of printing options -- i.e. the interface that I get when I use the Photosmart 8450 when printing on Windows XP.
I managed to download this massive driver from HP's website, 127.5 MB entitled "HPPhotosmart_Installer10.2-10.4.dmg". I suspect that file contains all the bells and whistles that HP provides along with the print driver.
However, HP's website refers to this driver as 10.4 compatible, and doesn't mention 10.5 Leopard.
My question is, now that my Mac is printing to Leopard, should I now install this driver that I obtained from the HP website.
Ok, I'm rattled. I've spent the last week, with 2 sleepless nights, fighting the blue screen, getting Leopard to finally work. Now that it is working great, I am paranoid about doing something that will sink the ship. (No, Apple, it doesn't just work anymore). Hence, I want to see if others have installed this because taking the plunge.

    p/s
    I managed to find them.
e.g. let's say I am printing a Safari webpage. When I go to the PRINT screen, there is a pulldown menu that says SAFARI. If you pull down that menu, all the printing options are there.
When I try printing from other applications e.g. Microsoft Word, the PRINT screen has a pulldown menu where all the printer settings are accessible. The pulldown menu is not given an external title, and there seems to be no logic as to what its default item is, but the pulldown menu is there.
Not very user-friendly display, but I managed to find it.

  • HP PhotoSmart 6520, Printer offline, Wireless printing from Windows 8.1 and others

My parents own an HP PhotoSmart 6520. They have 3 or 4 computers. 1 Is connected to this printer via USB cable. 3 Are "connected" over wireless. The printer has the latest firmware updates according to checks from the printer front display.
    Problem is this:
    1) When first starting the printer, and the printer gets on the wifi network, all wifi-available devices can print to it over wifi. We are also able to browse to the printer config web pages to see status, and change configs as needed.
    2) After about 5 minutes of printer inactivity, all wireless clients can't print to the printer to print, and can't connect to the printer's web page. (The printer appears to be offline to each OS that uses WiFi to get Internet access.
    3) If we visit the printer control screen, physically attached to the pinter, find the network configuration, and choose to "turn off" wifi at the printer, then after off, "turn on" wifi and see an IP address get assigned, then all WiFi machines can print to the printer over WiFi. However, after 5 minutes, again, the printer is offline. No matter what or how much each WiFi-based machine sends to their printer queue/spool, the printer remains offline.
    4) If the USB-connected machine prints to the printer over USB, the printer once again becomes available over the wireless network.
The work-around is terrible. (Cycle WiFi access every time they need to print from Wireless devices.)
    Things we have tried:
    1) This is running the latest firmware according to the WebService section request to check for upgrades. They are on the latest according to the results. (no help)
    2) DHCP was the initial config for network settings. I moved to a DHCP server configuration with static IP served by printer MAC address. (No help)
    3) I switched to totally static IP address, thinking it might be a DHCP lease-time/renewal issue, or custom vendor string issues or bug. (no help)
    4) Enabled/Disabled IPv6 even though they are on a NAT-ed network with only IPv4 support. (no help)
    5) Visited printer config with web broswer, and change energy saver setting from "5 minutes" to "15 minutes" because the ~5 minute window seemed like an approximate time limit. (No help)
    6) Enable/Disable other settings through the web and restart the printer. (No help.)
    7) Suggestions listed here: http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Photosmart-6520-e-All-in-One-Printer-series/5169038/model/516... (No help)
In testing this, with static IP or not, from other machines, when we can print over WiFi to the printer, the IPv4 address is ping-able from peers on the network. After ~5 minutes pass, and the pinter goes "offline" there are no ping replies to the static or other IP address assigned to this printer. By all accounts, when the printer is "offline" it really is no longer on the WiFi network. Meanwhile, oter devices can ping each other. (All computers, smartphones, tablets, etc can all respond to ping.)
None of the other devices suffer from dropped access to the WiFi and Internet.
    Suggestions?
I do not have access to this right now, but I can walk my parents through whatever steps are needed to resolve this.
    Thanks!
    P.S. Other things tried:
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Networking-and-Wireless/If-your-printer-drops-off-your-network/...
    1) When online, generating report, reports online
    2) When offline, report reports that it is still associated with access point
    3) Printer is about 2 feet away from the access point it is communicating with and has max-bars showing signal strength.
    4) Channel allocation for WiFi was selected based on least used channel, and works very well for all other devices on this channel.
    5) There is only one accesspoint with the name it associates with.
    6) The only options for power-saving "auto-off" we see via web pages from printer are: 5 minutes, 10 minutes, and 15 minutes, and changing to 15 minutes does not allow the printer to remain online for 14 minutes -- it still goes offline to the network after ~5 minutes -- even agfter changing this settings and power cycling the printer.
    7) No wireless extender is being used.
    8) We tried static IP, Dynamic IP, and statically assigned DHCP served IP.
Once printer is "offline" when visiting printer to tell printer to disable WiFi access, then re-enable it, all machines with items in their printer queue/spool *immediately* de-queue/de-spool their printer jobs to the printer.
This is the closest description: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-All-in-One-Install-Setup/Photosmart-6520-goes-off-line/td-p/324... Where is that patch?

    Hi @TheSynAck,
I see you are using a Hot Spot, I believe we have found the reason for the connectivity issues. There may be a setting that needs to manually configured for the Hotspot to 'allow' your printer access. Also, hotspots may have limitations and restrictions that may cause connectivity issues.
Take a look here: Setting up the Printer as a HotSpot, it shows a Laserjet but the same steps apply.
Keep in mind that Hotspot connections are 'best effort' connections due to the issues of inconsistencies within the connection. They are not routers. Therefore, you may experience issues in the future when using the Hotspot for your connection. Usually a powercycle or hard reset of the HotSpot will resolve such issues.
I would not recommend getting another Hot Spot as the connection is not guaranteed, you could however try a Wireless Router if you are looking to upgrade anyways.
With the PS 6520 you also have the ability to print using the HP Wireless Direct printing option. Please click on the link below to get started:
HP Wireless Printers - Printing with HP Wireless Direct
I hope this gives you a better understanding of the intermittent connection issues.

  • Is there any way to print a photo from my iphone on plain paper on my photosmart plus printer?

Whenever I try to use Airprint to print a photo from my iPhone to my Photosmart Plus printer, it tries to print it on photo paper from the photo paper tray.
I want it to print on the plain paper in the regular tray.
I read online where this is possible with the iPrint app - but when I went to the App Store, there is no iPrint App.  I found a sticky post here saying that it has been removed from the App Store in anticipation of a new ePrint Home & Business version that won't be available everywhere until September.
So, in the meantime, is there anyway to change the location of where the photos from the iPhone print?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

    HI
Most likely their is not, as printing pictures is standard set to photopaper as you most likely need good quality. Pictures on normal paper are not considered good quaity and thus not set as standard.

  • [Solved] Hp-setup cannot find my HP Photosmart Plus printer

    Hi all,
I'm trying to set up my HP Photosmart Plus printer. I have an Arch desktop acting as the CUPS server, which I ssh into from my laptop. I've gone through the CUPS installation and linux - linux sharing instructions. When I try to set up the printer through the CUPS web interface, it easily detects and adds my printer. I can access it from my laptop and print stuff fine. However, it will only print out:
**** Unable to open the initial device, quitting.
I discovered that the printer should instead be set up using hp-setup. Running hp-check -t gives this.
Running hp-check --fix prompts to reinstall the printer through hp-setup, and so it removes the printer from CUPS and starts hp-setup -i.
When I select "net" for the connection type (my printer is wireless), it can't find my printer, even though the standard CUPS interface had no problem with this.

  • My hp photosmart D110 printer won't scan or print since I upgraded to Yosemite.  Any suggestions?

My hp photosmart D110 printer won't scan or print since I upgraded to Yosemite.  Any suggestions?

    Hey clutterfromduluth,
Thanks for the question. I understand that you are experiencing issues with your printer/scanner after updating to OS X Yosemite. To troubleshoot this issue check out the following:
Troubleshooting printer issues in OS X
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3147
Follow these steps until the issue is addressed:
    1. Make sure that the printer is powered on, has ink / toner, and that there are no alerts on the printer’s control panel. Note: If you cannot clear an alert on the printer's control panel, stop here and check the printer's documentation or contact the manufacturer for support.
    2. Ensure the printer is properly connected to a USB port on the Mac or AirPort base station / Time Capsule. If the printer is a network-capable printer, make sure that it is properly connected to your home network.
    3. Use Software Update to find and install the latest available updates. If an update is installed, see if the issue persists.
    4. Open the Print & Scan pane or Print & Fax (Snow Leopard) pane in System Preferences.
    5. Delete the affected printer, then add the printer again.
If the issue persists, try these additional steps:
    1. Reset the printing system, then add the printer again.
    2. If the issue still persists, reset the printing system again.  Download and install your printer's drivers. Then, add the printer again.
    3. Contact the printer vendor or visit their website for further assistance.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.
