Photosmart 8750, color managed by application

I have not used my printer for high quality printing in over a year; also the software is downloaded (not from the disk supplied which is lost). The updated software is slightly different from the original. I have two questions regarding printing with "color managed by application": 1. In the list of printer profiles, there does not seem to be a selection for the three color cartridges of tri-color, blue photo, and gray photo; to be used with high quality photo paper. I have learned the hard way that the right setting here is imperative. 2. In selecting color management, I have picked "color handling by PhotoShop Elements" (I used to use Adobe Photoshop 7, if that makes a difference). A message "Did you remember to disable color management in the printer preferency dialogue" appears, but there are only two options for that: "ColorSmart/sRGB" and "Adobe RGB." In the past I selected "Managed by application," which is no longer an option (except on the previous screen as previously noted). Do I select "AdobeRGB" since I am using Adobe Photoshop Elements? Thanks for any assistance you can offer. Of course, I can print with "managed by printer," but I believe "managed by application" gives a bit richer color.

My prints recently have had a green cast. Any suggestions?

  • HP Photosmart C4480 Color Management

    I have been looking around for a long time, but I can't find how to turn off color management for this printer! The manual says there are options such "None", or "Let Application Decide", but all I see is "ColorSmart sRGB" and "Adobe RGB". Can you turn it off?
    On an unrelated question, every time I try to print borderless 8.5x11, it always cuts off the edges of what I'm printing. It is possible to stop this?

    Clean the cartridge contacts as shown at the following.  (This is for a different printer model but the same principle applies).
    Also, is this an original HP cartridge?  Remanufactured cartridges can be problematic, see this report for some details.

  • Color management settings for HP Photosmart d7460 printer?

    Hi,
    HP Photosmart d7460
    Windows 7 Pro 64 bit
    I have the above printer, and I have recently used Datacolor devices to manually calibrate both my monitor and printer. I notice that when, for example, I use Adobe Photoshop Elements or Corel Photopaint X4 to print photos, that I am advised to select software to handle color management. I also receive a message informing me that i should switch off printer color management in printing preferences (i.e. the printer driver software). Unfortunately the only options available in the printer driver 'color management' drop down menu appear to be either Colorsmart/sRGB or AdobeRGB. I understand that there should be another option, either 'no color management' or 'application controlled' but it is not present. There is also no option, in this menu, for the ICC profile that I have created for the printer, although the profile is present in the Adobe Photoshop Elements application, and in Corel.
    How do I switch off color management by the printer and allow the application to solely control color management? I understand that having both the application and printer control color management can lead to poor colours.
    Regards, Chris

    does anyone have any suggestions, any help appreciated.

  • Export Color Management

    I'm using Lightroom 1.1 350273 on OSX.
    This has probably been addressed before, but my searching is not yielding results.
    The object is to export jpgs from Lightroom for use on a website.
    It is the old story - exported photos look washed out in Firefox.
    Photos look great in color managed browser (Safari).
    Is there anything we can do to make photos look correct in both apps?
    I have compared photos on various websites and some of them look the same in both Firefox and Safari.
    Check this one in both browsers for yourself: http://www.flickr.com/photos/tenoot/536936968/in/pool-cotc/

    Agree with Jao, on my MBP LCD, the image looks just about the same in Firefox & Safari.
    I have profiled my monitor(s) using i1 colorimeter.
    I am willing to bet that the image looks different to you on your Mac because you are using the 'canned' monitor profile that came with your computer/display, which is usually completely wrong. I had the same problem before... the 'canned' profile caused color-managed (CM) applications to over-saturate warm colors so that when I looked at the same image in Firefox (nonCM), the image looked washed out.
    After proper calibration, results are more similar between CM & nonCM applications, though LET ME STRESS here that getting the same colors between CM & nonCM apps is NOT the point of color management! But that's a long story that I will spare you of :)
    If none of this is making sense, I recently discovered what seems to be an incredible book on truly understanding color management:

    Hope this helps,

  • Hp Photosmart 8750 - Trouble printing in color using 8750 as networked printer.

    Hi,
    I have an HP Photosmart 8750 Professional printer direct connected to a Win XP computer through the USB port.  It is designated as a network (shared) printer.  The printer works fine printing from the XP computer as I am able to set the print jobs to be controlled by the application I am using.
    However, one of the computers on the network has a Windows 7 64-bit operating system.  The computer recognizes the 8750 but I am only able to set the color management on the printer properties menu box to either ColorSmart/sRGB or AdobeRGB.  There is no option to have the color management 'controlled by application'.  Because of this, I am unable to print colored text in documents, at least in those created by Microsoft Office, Wordpad, or Adobe Reader.  (Only programs I have tried to print with so far).
    Is there a work around for this problem?

    Hey @9redsoxfan9 ,
    Thank you for taking the time out of your day to ask that question on the HP Forums today!
    I understand you are on your second HP Photosmart printer and you are experiencing the same issue of not printing color that led you to throwing out your old one. You have done the alignments, cleaning and even replaced the cartridges.
    You have done all the troubleshooting I would have got you to do so I recommend you call HP Technical Phone Support.
    If you are in Canada or US call 800 474 6836, or you can Contact HP Worldwide.
    HP printers generally have a 1 year warranty from their purchase date, you can verify the warranty using the following link if you would like; warranty check.
    I hope this helps. Have a great day!

  • Color Management on a Photosmart 510a

    I have the Color Munki color management system.  It asks me to "disconnect" the color management in my Photosmart 510a.
    Have NO clue as to where to do that.  Is it by just changing the option to have the "software manage the colors?"
    Thanks for info.

    So what you're saying, which is not expressed very well in the very first post in the thread, is that for files saved WITH the sRGB profile, you'd like to see the same thing in Photoshop as you're seeing in a color-managed browser.  What I can't fathom why you would want to save files with no embedded profile.  Let's make that a separate discussion.
    Going on the assumption above, and that you're using Windows 7, here's what you need to do:
    1.  Your monitor profile (i.e., the one created by your calibrator or which came with your monitor) should be your default profile in Windows.  To check this, click the Start button, and type color management into the search box.  When Color Management comes up, click it, and look in the Advanced tab.
    2.  Photoshop's color management should be enabled, and View - Proof Colors menu should be UNchecked.  This means Photoshop will transform the RGB values in an image with a given image profile into the proper values for correct display on your monitor.  This is your normal mode for editing.
    3.  Create your web image using the sRGB color profile as your working space.
    4.  Save it with the sRGB color profile embedded.
    5.  Display it in Firefox.  It should look just the same as it did in Photoshop.
    6.  Capture the screen showing both images (Photoshop and Firefox) side by side.
    7.  Paste the captured image into a new document in Photoshop, and ASSIGN your monitor profile to it (because you grabbed it from your monitor).  If you have the proper checkbox set in your color management settings, Photoshop will automatically ask you to make this choice when you're pasting the image.  It should look just as it did when you captured it.
    8.  CONVERT the image to the sRGB color profile.  You should not see the appearance of the image change.
    9.  Save this image to a file, complete with the sRGB color profile.
    10.  Post the image here.
    Let me know if anything's not clear, or something doesn't happen as expected.

  • Color Management in an HP C510a Photosmart printer

    Hello,
    I just purchased a new HP C510a Photosmart and would like to change the Color Management setting so that Photoshop CS5 controls it.
    Have no clue as to where to do that.
    Please help!
    Thanks.

    I've tried printing from both the catalog and the editor screen and I've fooled around with the color mgmt.  The printing is still off.  The colors are vibrant from what I can see and when it prints it's not as sharp and the colors tend to be dull or maybe leaning towards more green/blue sometimes even more reddish - orange.  I've taken the liberty and reseted the printer to factory defaults on the hardware and on the pc...It's till giving me this problem.  What's amazing is I can print from Kodakgallery software, photoalbum 3.2 from adobe and the colors are some what true to color.  I can't get it to print right with elements.

  • Fully Color Managed Application (using calibrated monitor profiles)

    Hi,
    I'm new to JAVA 2D so I may be missing something obvious - apologies if I am, but I've been trawling the API and web to try and solve this for many hours - so any help would be much appreciated!
    I'm trying to write an application to open a JPEG with an embedded colour profile (in this case AdobeRGB) and display it with correct colour on my monitor, for which I have an accurate custom hardware calibrated profile. In my efforts to do this several problems / queries have arisen.
    So, JAVA aside, the concept is simple:
    a) Open the image
    b) Transform the pixels from AdobeRGB->Monitor Profile (via a PCS such as CIEXYZ).
    c) Blit it out to the window.
    (a) is fine. I've used the following code snip, and can query the resulting BufferedImage and see it has correctly extracted the AdobeRGB profile. I can even display it (non-color corrected) using the Graphics2D.drawImage() function in my components paint() method.
    BufferedImage img = ImageIO.read(new File("my-adobe-rgb.jpg"));(b) Also seems OK (well at least no exceptions)...
    ICC_Profile monitorProfile = ICC_Profile.getInstance("Monitor_Calibrated.icm");
        ColorConvertOp convert = new ColorConvertOp(new ICC_ColorSpace(monitorProfile ),null);
        BufferedImage imgColorAdjusted = convert.filter(img,null);[I was feeling hopeful at this point!]
    QUESTION 1: Does this conversion go through the CIEXYZ (I hope) rather than sRGB, there seems to be no way to specify and the docs are not clear on this?
    (c) Here is the major problem...
    When I pass imgColorAdjusted to the Graphic2D.drawImage() in my components paint() method the JVM just hangs and consumes 100% CPU.
    QUESTION 2: Any ideas why it hangs?
    Pausing in the debugger I found the API was busy transforming by image to sRGB this leads to my third question...
    QUESTION 3: If I pass an image with a color model to drawImage() does drawImage do any color conversion, e.g will it transform my adobe image to sRGB (not what I want in this case!)?
    And if answer to Q3 is yes, which I suspect it is, then the next question is how to make the J2D understand that I have a calibrated monitor, and to tell it the profile, so that the Graphics2D it provides in paint() has the correct color model. Looking in the API I thought this was provided to J2D through the GraphicsEnviroment->GraphicsDevice->GraphicsConfiguration.getColorModel(). I tried looking at what these configurations were (code below). Result - 10 configurations, all with the JAVA 2D sRGB default, despite my monitor colour management (through the windows display properties dialog) being set to the calibrated profile.
    QUESTION 4: Am I just off track here - does Java 2D support monitor profiles other than sRGB? Is what I am trying possible?
    GraphicsConfiguration[] cfg = GraphicsEnvironment.getLocalGraphicsEnvironment().getDefaultScreenDevice().getConfigurations();
        System.out.println(cfg.length);
        byte[] d;
        for (int j=0; j<cfg.length; j++) {
          System.out.println("CFG:"+j+cfg[j]);
          d = ((ICC_ColorSpace)cfg[j].getColorModel().getColorSpace()).getProfile().getData();
          for (int i=0; i<d.length && i<256; i++){
            if (d[i] != 10 && d[i] != 13){
              System.out.print((char)d);
    System.out.println();
    Any help much appreciated.
    Thanks.

    I have had some sucess with this, but it wasn't easy or obvious. The trick is converting the color to the monitor profile and then changing the color model to be sRGB without changing the pixel data. JAI's Format operation does this easily although I'm sure there are other ways to do it. The RGB data is then displayed without being converted to sRGB so that the monitor calibration is maintained. I will answer your questions since I had similar ones.
    Q1. Yes the conversion is done using XYZ as it should be.
    Q2. I believe paint is just very slow, not hanging. Any color model other than XYZ or sRGB requires conversion before it can be displayed (as sRGB). This is both slow and incorrect for a calibrated monitor.
    Q3. Yes that is what I have found, a conversion to sRGB will always happen, unless it appears to be already done as when the color model is sRGB (even though the pixel data is not!).
    Q4. It is possible but apparently only with this somewhat strange work around. If there is a way to change the Java display profile to be other than sRGB, I could not find it either. However, calibrated RGB display can be achieved.
    Since I have seen many other posts asking for an example of color management, here is some code. This JAI conversion works for many pairs of source and destination profiles including CMYK to RGB. It does require using ICC profiles in external files rather than embedded in the image.
    package calibratedrgb;
    import com.sun.media.jai.widget.DisplayJAI;

  • Photosmart 8750 - how to avoid white edges on print? And how to match colors from monitor to print?

    Hi all! I´m new here so I hope I ask this in the right forum. Please advice me if this should be in another sub-forum..
    First: The white edges around my photos when printed:
    I can´t figure out how to avoid the white edges when I print my photos.
    If I print in A3 size (or any other size) there´s always the white edges around my photos on the print, and it´s really annoying.
    I make the size in Photoshop (CS4 extended) so that the photo matches the size of the printing paper, but still it gets adjusted when printing so I get the white edges.
    I either print directly from PS or from Windows Photoviewer. (I have Windows 7).
    In PS in the printing dialog box it says Scale to fit media, when I tick this and also have the Show Paper White ticked, it appears that the photo goes exactly as the size is set, but then I can see a thin white edge on top of it, illustrating that the photo will be printed with a white edge on top. If I untick the Scale to fit media, the photo appears to be cut a great deal before printed, so this will destroy my image.
    I usually print from Windows Photoviewer as the colours in PS turns out more different than when saved and printed from Windows. (My next question).  In Windows Photoviewer I only have the option Fit to frame, but in the preview it doesn´t look like any of those two options will give a borderless print.
    In the printers dialoge box for the Paper/Quality I only use the option for A3 HP glossy photopaper, but I see there are other options such as Photo without edges A3, but then the size says 423x303mm which is slightly bigger than the size of the photo.
    Also there´s a box to tick under it, Print without edges and under it Automatic fit without edges.
    Is it something here I should tick or untick?
    What options should I use to get it to print and fill the whole paper?
    Second: How to get the same colours on my print as it shows on my monitor?
    I have tried figuring out this, but I gave up. Though I know there´s something about the Profile´s, just not how to set them..
    As already said, the colours looks quite different when printed directly from PS than saved as .jpg and printed from Windows Photoviewer. In colours the print is closer to the actual colours when printed from Windows than from PS, but BW photos is quite far from as seen on the monitor when printed, from both of them.
    Instead of this nice warm "brownish" hue seen on my monitor, it´s printed with a greenish hue. Really annoying as I spend a lot of time working on my photos to get them as I like.
    In the printer´s dialog box (in Windows) I have disabled the ICM colour management.
    In PS dialog box I´m sure there´s something to do different under the Color Management, but I don´t know what.
    Also there´s probably something different in my monitor´s profile that differs from the printer and PS?
    Anyone who can help with either one or both of my problems??
    That would be highly appreciated so thanks so much in advance!

  • Disable color management photosmart c5280

    I need to disable color management on my c5280 but can find no option to do as such. Does anyone know how to disable it?

    I have the same printer and the same problem. I have read in the printer helps that it is not necessary to disable color management. If a program like PS is configured to manage colors, the printer will not use their own profile. But, if you are unsatisfied for the color in printed pictures, is possible your monitor improperly calibrated. Try it fist of all.
    In case you see that don't work, or want to be really sure the printer color management is not interfering your work, try to delete the color profiles in the printer set up (it is a reversible operation).
    For that you have to open the control panel (or printers folder), go to printers, select HP C5280, right click and select "properties", then select "Color Management" tab. Then you can see a button named "Color management...". Click it and you will see a window with some fields and check boxes.
    The first field allows you to select the device: select "HP C5280". Below, you have a check box with the text " Use my set up in this device", check it. Below that you have another field for "Select Profile". Select "Manual" (it is probably in "Automatic" the first time). Then in the bigger space below every thing, you can see the profiles. Delete all the profiles (simply click over one and then press Del key).  Close the window and that's all.
    Later, you can add the deleted profiles using the button "Add profiles" and revert everything.

  • Printing with HP B9180 and Photoshop Elements 8 and Color Management

     I've got a bit of confusion about certain settings in the printing process and I've posted a rather long discussion of my 'issues' and confusion.  I hope someone can give me some guidance here.  I've seen a lot of these issues addressed in many places but I can't seem to find an integrated response.  Thanks to anyone who takes the time to read and respond.
    Color Management Questions
    My problems started when I was getting pictures that were too dark from my HP 9180 printer after having gotten very nice prints for a long time.  I had obviously started to do something differently inadvertently.  The only thing I think that is different is that I got a new 23 inch monitor, which does produce much brighter on-screen images.  So, I started to do some research and know just enough about color management to be slightly confused and have some questions that I hope someone can give me some help with.
    Equipment Background
    I use both a Canon 20D and a Canon PowerShot SD600 camera. Both have the default color space as sRGB, although the 20D can be also set as RGB.
    I also use Photoshop Elements 8, where there are a variety of settings possible for printing.
    My monitor is an HP S2331, whose color space is sRGB and cannot be reset to RGB (I think) except for temperature; the default is 6500K.
    My printer is an HP Photosmart Pro B9180 Printer, where there are also a variety of settings possible.
    I’m running XP-Pro.
    Here’s Where I Get Confused
    Everything I have read about color management (various web sites, forums, books, etc) says to have the image, monitor, and printer all in the same color space.
    Everything I read about PSE 8 (same sources) says to set PSE 8 to ‘Always Optimize for Printing’ under Edit>Color Settings in order to get the best prints.  This displays photos based on the Adobe RGB color space.
    I am taking pictures in sRGB, and telling PSE 8 to process them in RGB by selecting ‘Always Optimize for Printing’.  Is this something I should be concerned about?  Should I reset my camera for RGB?
    Further, by selecting ‘Always Optimize for Printing’, I am setting PSE 8 for RGB while my monitor displays sRGB.  Is this an important issue or is it also much ado about technicalities that an amateur should not worry about?  It does violate the ‘keep them in the same color space’ rule.
    Next, when I go to File>Print and get the Print window and then do the Page Setup and Select Printer, I then go to More Options in the lower left of the window.  Under the More Options window, I select Color management and select Photoshop Elements Manages Colors.  Next, there is Image Space, which is fixed and not subject to selection from a drop down menu.
    I understand that this is the image space of the image I took with my camera and that information is embedded in the image.  Correct?
    Next, there is Printer Profile.  But, from what I have read, this is where the IEC profile of the paper being printed on is supposed to be selected, isn’t it?
    Shouldn’t this more appropriately be called Paper Profile, or Printing Media Profile?  Further, this drop down menu appears to be somewhat erratic, sometimes showing all of the paper profiles I believe are loaded, sometimes not. It also shows listings such as Working RGB-Adobe RGB (1988), Adobe RGB 1988, Dot Gain 10%, 15%.... along with a lot of paper profiles.  Aren’t those profiles unnecessary here?
    I’ve used both Relative Colorimetric and Perceptual Rendering and am happy with either one.
    Next, when I go to Printer Preferences, in order to “…disable color management in the printer preferences dialog”, under the Color Tab, I select Application Managed Colors from the Color management drop down menu, and also have the option of selecting ColorSmart/sRGB and Adobe RGB (1988).
    Is there any time when I should use either ColorSmart/sRGB or Adobe RGB  (1988)?  If I were staying with my camera’s sRGB setting, given the fact that the monitor is sRGB, would the appropriate selections be ‘Printer Manages Colors’ and ‘ColorSmart/sRGB’?
    Finally, under the Features Tab, I go to look for the same paper I selected under Printer Profile (Question 4 above).  If it is one of the pre-loaded (by HP) profiles, it is there, but if it is a profile I downloaded, say for an Ilford paper, it isn’t listed, and I need to guess at an equivalent type of paper to select.
    Is there any way to get that listing to appear under the Paper Type drop down menu?
    I know that this is a long post, but it helped me to clarify my ‘issues’.  Thank you for any and all suggestions, answers, guidance and help.

    RIK,
    Some printers have long names, esp. HP printers, and PSE gets ":confused." In control panel>devices and printers, right click on the default printer, go to printer properties, and rename the default printer to something short, e.g. "Our Printer." That may fix it..

  • Photoshop CS6 and HP Photosmart 8750 under Win7 Pro?

    Hi,
    I have the impression that the HP Photosmart 8750 printer does not work correctly under Win7 Pro when printing images from Photoshop CS6:
    The prints are generally 2 shades lighter than on screen, i. e. black prints as 50% gray - Black cartidge is new...
    In the PS Printer settings dialog, I set the color management to "handled by printer".
    If I set the colormanagement to "handled by Photoshop", the printouts are even worse: colors are shifting to completely different shades.
    On my Canon MP280 printer, the prints are color-correct.
    I guess, that this is related to a driver problem. Win7 only has a basic driver implemented for the HP printer, and HP doesn't provide a Win7-driver.
    The thing is, I need the large format...
    Does anybody have a solution or workaround for this problem? Your help is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Erhard

    At the company I work for we hardly print from Photoshop as we have a pdf-workflow, but I think you might make it easier for others to help you if you provide screenshots (posted with the camera icon) of your print dialog windows, especially those regarding Color Management.

  • FWIW: Advanced Color Management with HP printers

    As I mentioned in another thread my HP Deskjet 5650 is beginning to fail so I'm in the market. As much as I like the hard won results and convenient availability of supplies I'm tired of not being able to over-ride HP's color management and let Elements control the printer's color space.
    After some very frustrating research on HP's site I am surprised to learn that the following full size printers allow exactly that and quite a few of their 4x6/5x7 printers, too:
    Deskjet 5420v, 5440, 5740, 5940, 6500, 6620, 6830 and 6840 Series
    Photosmart 7960, 7850, 8050, 8250, 8250v, 8250xi, and 8253 Series
    The research was frustrating because very few of the technical pages for those models mention that color can be managed by the application.
    Finally a search of their support site for "Advanced Color Management" brought up the list.

    I have the same problem - no idea what to do to correct.  Yesterday I replaced the magenta cartridge and within an hour it was telling me the cartridge was empty.  Turned it off and today when I turned it back on it sees the magenta cartridge as full.  Useless as it is tho, with the colors all pink.

  • Need printer workflow settings for PS CS5 and HP Photosmart 8750

    Friends:
    This question must get asked periodically, but I couldnt find an answer:
    I have Photoshop CS5 and an HP Photosmart 8750 Printer with these inkjet cartridges (original HP) availiable: (97 Tricolor, 101 Blue Photo, 102 Gray Photo)  I also have HP glossy phot paper.  Using a Mac Pro with OS 10.6.5 (Snow Leopard)
    What do I set my PS5, My Print dialog and my Print Setting to get a decent color photo?  I get muddy photos now and am wating lots of fine glossy photo paper.  To get an aproximate photo I have to boost brightness by 60% on my photo.  Still the printed photo doenst look like the screen.
    Thanks for your help, printer profiles and suggestions!!

  • Vista color management & CS3

    Two weeks ago I wrongly faulted my new Dell 2707WFP monitor for its high contrast and saturation after many failed profiling attempts using the Spyder2Pro with the updated Vista software. I'm still at a loss as to why images are dark and overly saturated in Photoshop, Bridge and Lightroom. They were all fine on an older Dell system running XP home and CS2. I've gone so far as to purposely inflict various gamma curve settings in Spyder to bump up the low end luminance but resulting profiles still show images clipped in the low end and overall saturated even as the desktop and the PS interface turn a sickly pale.
    I'm new to CS3 and Lightroom and so I'm not sure if the following is normal. When I view a NEW batch of images that were not previously viewed in Bridge, they are normal looking, however when I click on a thumbnail, it then reverts to the same garish contrasty version that I see full size in the above adobe software when opened. The same thing happens in the WINDOWS PHOTO GALLERY viewer but NOT in WINDOWS EXPLORER. In Explorer the thumbs are as they should be...normal, and if I open them in Microsoft OFFICE PICTURE MANAGER or in Quicktime PICTUREVIEWER, they open as normal images.
    All this sounds like a profile issue of some kind, but as far as I know, everything appears to be set correctly in both PS and the profiling software. However, Im not sure about the system settings regarding profiles. In the Windows COLOR folder all the profiles are where they should be and I can select which one to load using the Spyder Profile Chooser. And again, I do restart PS when I change a profile. Could this be some kind of Vista bug??
    Other notes:
    If I do a screen shot and paste it back into PS, it turns DARKER than the original file.
    When I do additional calibrations I restart PS to load the latest profile.
    All files tagged sRGB and in sRGB workspace. PS shows this correct space and likewise the correct monitor profile in COLOR SETTINGS
    ATI CATALYST CONTROL CENTER fails to run on bootup so windows shuts it down. No fix that I can find for this.

    Thanks again for your help!

    Incorrect Color outside Photoshop on Wide Gamut Display
    Solution >>I just purchased a Dell 2407 HC display, considered wide gamut and the spyder 3 elite. I've used the spyder 3 to calibrate the monitor. In photoshop whenever I "Save for Web" or "Save as" in the sRGB color space, I wind up with over saturated oranges and reds. I'm needing to save in the sRGB for web work. My working color space is set to sRGB which looks fine when editting in photoshop, but as soon as I save it out of photoshop the reds and oranges are over saturated. I purchased the spyder 3 because of the wide gamut support, is there something I'm missing in calibration?
    The display profile is not at fault here. The ICC profile for the display tells any application that uses color management what the color values for the display are. Thus Photoshop, which is using the profile, corrects for the colors on screen, giving correct results. A non-color managed application (such as Internet Explorer for Windows) would not use the profile and thus the colors would be oversaturated on your wide gamut screen. This is not the fault of the profile (that would make the color look wrong in Photoshop, where the profile is being used), but the lack of a profile (which makes the color look wrong in non-color managed applications).
    This is the problem with using a Wide Gamut display for viewing in non-color managed applications. A typical gamut display is not color correct in such applications, but is at least approximately correct; a wide gamut display is noticably oversatured in some colors. On the Mac many applications, including web browsers and OS utilities, are color managed, so it is less of an issue than on Windows.

    So if the color is off outside PS, then its not the fault of the profile. My problem is the image is off INSIDE PS, and by the same reasoning, then the profile is at fault. If the profile is to blame, is this a Spyder issue or Vista issue? So far noone seems to know anything including Adobe tech support and Dell. Been waiting 2 wks to hear from the Spyder people.
    Would really appreciate some input on this. thanks.
