Photosmart b9180 panorama problems

I am having problems printing panos in the 30+ inch size range. The panorama prints out in a matter of a few seconds with very poor quality, vertical blank lines, and poor color fidelity to the origninal. This occurs no matter what quality setting I select under the print set up. I am printing from Photoshop CS3 under Win 7.  I have also tried printing from Qimage with even poorer results-- only a small portion of the image prints. Prints of size up to 13x19 print correctly so it appears to be related to the print size.
Any help would be appreciated.

  • HP Printer update 2.7 causes inky disaster with Photosmart B9180

Just a heads up that installing the HP printer update 2.7 through software update creates a huge problem with the Photosmart B9180. After routinely installing this update last month, I finally decided to print something. It came out of the printer almost black and dripping with ink. It dripped on my hardwood floors and splashed on my hardwood cabinets. I was able to sop up the ink, wash and dry the floor and cabinet before the ink dried. I first assumed that the printer had simply failed after a few years of use.
Then I googled to find out that the problem had been experienced by others and was due to the new printer driver distributed by Software Update as v. 2.7 for a variety of printers. The update takes the B9180 driver to version 3.3.0. It was very difficult find the earlier version of the driver to install, but fortunately, I had saved HPPrinterDrivers2.5.2 from November 2010, and installing that version took my printer back to behaving normally. Now I get alerts from Software Update to install the HP printer update 2.7, which would of course, recreate this problem with the printer. I hope that Apple will stop distributing this update until HP fixes its driver for the B9180. Here is a link to the forum that first reported the problem: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Mac-printing-and-scanning/Very-stange-behaviour-Pho tosmart-B9180-prints-with-huge-amount/m-p/879141#M20791
HP has not responded to these posts on its own forum.

I agree. But as I said in my first post, my HP Photosmart Premium All-in-One c309a continues to work fine. But I have had this kind of issue before. Last time in what I think was HP 2.6 update it was the c309a that lost the ability to scan (the tab disappeared from the print preferences for the printer). At the time I was advised that HP had messed things up. There were pages and pages on the HP support website devoted to trying to sort the issue out. But it took about a year for a further update to surface.
I am away for a few days now but will try your suggestion as well as a re-boot of everything on my return and then see if moving to Mountain Lion sorts it.

  • HP Photosmart Pro B9180 - print problem - color

The photo output is not the correct color.  I tried cleaning and calibartaing but tere does not seem to be
magenta printing.  the reoprt says the printhead is oK, but it is not printing correctly ?
    Any ideas ?

Hard Reset – While printer is powered ON, pull
the power cord from the printer then from the
wall. After 30 seconds reconnect power to wall
and printer. This will trigger a ‘dirty power up’
and restore the printer to a known good
condition (if it is possible). No user settings are
    lost with a ‘hard reset’.
This ‘Hard Reset’ is one of the most powerful
tools to use when the printer hardware is not
    functioning properly!

  • HP Photosmart B9180 not printing black

i am not getting black ink on any of my prints
i used the printer the other day and it was fine
the black ink cart is at about 88%
i did get a message about ink carts that had expired but ignored it as i always do so i am not sure if this is the cause of this problem
is this a failure of the ink cart and if so is there a manual fix or do i have to buy a new one

    Hi @shiftee,
I understand your black ink is not working. I suggest using the following document to troubleshoot the issue: HP Photosmart Pro B9180 and B9180gp Photo Printers - Color Blocks on the Test Page are Streaked or M....
If the issue persists, you might consider replacing the black cartridge. Keep in mind, the root cause may not be the cartridge, it could be the printer, you may even consider calling us. We may be able to offer you a discount on a newer printer model, or discuss available out of warranty options.

  • I own a photosmart b9180, it's hp's red headed stepchild

Every article in every pc mag always said "buy the best printer you can, you'll save in the long run on consumables".
I bet they never owned the b9180, lol. I paid $695 for the printer.
To fill it up with ink, it's 8 cartridges at $38.95 each, about $320. for ink.
I own a great scale, and when the cartriges tell the printer it's empty & it stops printing, I always weigh the "empty" cartridges.
There is always a 10-15 gram difference in these empty cartridges, don't make sense.
Last week I get an error message- can't print, replace 1 of the printheads.
So I call hp, buy the new printhead, install it & guess what?
I get a message that 2 other printheads need to be replaced.
So I call hp & order the remaining 3 printheads, b/c I don't want to install the 2 that were faulty & then get a message to
replace the fourth & final one.
So I install the other 3 printheads, the printer goes through it's half hour wakeup routine, aligments, calibrations etc.
Now when the problem first started last week I had all new ink cartridges installed, but by going though printhead cleanings, deep printhead cleanings, alignments & calibrations on the old printheads, then doing it when I installed the first new printhead, then doing it again when I installed the other 3 new printheads almost all the cartridges were empty.
So I get another set of new hp cartridges, put em in, and then I get a message that my grey cartridge, which is 5 minutes old is "either missing, damaged, or empty". I wanna kill myself.
Now tech support told me these printheads are designed to last 18 months. Are you serious?
I bet that little tid bit wasn't in their advertising/marketing brochures. Let me see- spend $600-700 for the printer,
spend $320 every time you need new ink, and after 18 months replace the printheads for $240.
What can I do? Someone already told me to use it as a boat anchor, so come up with something else.
I also own the 8550 wide format & b209 photosmart all in one. I purchased these 2 printers 8 months ago b/c I got tired of
what it cost to fill up the b9180. The ink for the other 2 printers is reasonable, plus they both take the same cartridge, so it gives me a little flexability.
Tech support told me they would sell me their new 7500 wide format all in one for $166, to make up for the b9180.
I said hey guys, your website has it for $179. where is the bargain? Plus I told them I recently purchased the 8550 & b209 b/c at that time hp didnt make a wide format all in one. So they want to sell me a wide format all in one. Nice, but then what do I do with the 8550 & b209? All I want from tech support is to make the 9180 work but they tell me it's printer failure.
Printer failure????? A $650 printer with $240 worth of new printheads, and $320 worth of new ink, and printer failure.
My heart is ready to fail.
    Can anyone help me please.
BTW, I also own 2 13 yr old desk jet 722c's and NEVER had a problem with them. Only hp didn't write drivers for windows 7 so I can only use them with my windows xp system.

There are Windows 7 drivers for the Deskjet 722c  (720 series), they were written by HP and are delivered through Windows Update.  If you have the Deskjet 722 connected to your XP machine you could share it and then do the following:  on the Windows 7 machine go to the Devices and Printers folder, Add a Printer, Local Printer, Create a Port, Local Port, \\Computername\Printername (use the actual share name for the computer and printer), OK, then click on Windows Update and select HP for the manufacturer and HP Deskjet 720c.
If you have a 64 bit version of Windows 7 you will need to apply the patch here.

  • Follow-up to HP Photosmart C6180 Scan Problem

I posted the below a few days ago and since then have spoken with a few people who have experienced the same difficulty. We came to the conclusion this problem began after a recent driver update from Apple (sorry we can't remember exactly which one-about a month or so ago we think). Again any comments/suggestions would be very helpful. Thanks!
Until recently I have been able to scan wirelessly to my iMac G5 using my HP Photosmart C6180 which is equipped with a wireless card. (wireless network being run on Belkin router) However, about 3 weeks ago, every time I try to scan I get an error message saving the scanner cannot be initialized. If I desire to scan, I must connect directly using USB cable and initiate scan from the HP. Any assistance/suggestions will be most welcomed.

I have been working on this for months and tripped over the solution today - it works on all models * OS's and is network related.
    Fix as follows:
    1. Open HP Device manager program
    2. Select maintain printer form info & settings drop down - this open printer utility
    3. Click open embedded web server
    4. Select Networking tab - from connections menu select wireless
    5. Click advanced button
    6. Go to bottom of page and check ALL "compatibility" check boxes
I just scanned a 50 page document and so did a friend with same problem with a new all-in-one and windows XP pro - same problem - same fix.

  • HP Photosmart Premium C310 - problem

Have an HP Photosmart Premium C310 wirelessly connected to HP Pavilion dv6 running 64 bit Windows 7.
Have had problems printing from Windows Photo viewer. Job is stored in printer queue and computer say information is being sent to printer my nothing happens. Opening up the printer queue dialog box it shows an error but no way of rectifying or fixing problem.
I don't have this problem printing off word documents or even printing from the HP Photosmart software, just Windows Photo viewer. Have updated drivers, reinstalled and run all diagnostic tools on support site and all or them reports no problems encountered.
Somewhere something is causing a conflict but not a clue what. Anyone else had similar problem? Any solutions??
    Cheers

  • Photosmart 7520 Cartridge Problem

Hello.I am having trouble installing replacement cartridges for the Photosmart 7520.  I place them in, locking them in place as I should and keep getting the error "One or more cartridges appear to be missing or damaged".  They are HP cartriges so that is not the problem.  I have taken them out, cleaned the sensors as it says in my troubleshooting guide.  Sometimes when I close the access door it will tell me another cartridge is not working too.  Any help would be appreciated.ThanksTK

I despair of this problem.  My siimple HP3420 was a model of reliability. I bought the PhotoSmart 7520 in March 2013 and it has been a constant nightmare. I have wasted hours when I should be productive, removing and refitting cartridges, cleaning contacts, wiggling cartridges and surfing the 'net looking for a solution. If I breath near the cartridges they are prone to showing up as 'missing or damaged'. It makes no difference whether I use cripplingly expensive HP cartridges, HP refills or third party cartridges. There is clearly a MAJOR problem with this model and the manner in which it is constructed. Meanwhile my daughter's printer (which I won't name in deference to this being a HP forum) operates smoothly without any problems of this type. It also has a better design allowing straight through paper runs, which makes a big difference when she prints images on thick paper/card, while the HP invariably scuffs the leading edge. I doubt that I will ever buy a HP again after this. For what it is worth I usually get the printer to work again, but can never figure out what did the trick. As I write this magenta is not recognised, I have cleaned contacts, unpligged the cable, removed the print head cradle, and tried several genuine cartridges. On and Off the photo black comes up with the same message, and then it is okay again.  It could be any of them - this seems to be a problem across the machine, not specific to a single cartridge bay, which would suggest a local problem. Meanwhile the machine is totally useless as there is no workaround to allow me to carry on (say with black only printing. Simply dreadful. I greatly resent the time I have wasted over the last two years with this problem.

  • Elements 8 - Mac OS10.6 Photomerge Panorama Problem

When I click on the File>New>Photomerge Panorama an error message "JavaScript code was missing" appears.  And Photomerge Panorama will not open.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled PSE8 but the problem persists.

No.  I did ask Adobe Support and they said it was a problem with the operating system.  Which to me is a dead end.  Hopefully somebody out there can figure out what and where the JavaScript file Elements is looking for and tell the rest of us.
Sorry for not having an answer.  Good luck on your quest.

  • Photosmart c4580 printing problems windows 7

I'm running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. My HP Photosmart C4580 prints 70% of the document correctly and the other 30% only prints the very top third of the characters on that line.  Any idea for the fix when the printer is only printing what appears to be the "first pass" of the print-head for any given line in a document?

    Hi there,
To make sure there are no software problems causing this try downloading and running the print and scan doctor located here:
    http://goo.gl/Ujpib
It can fix a lot on its own and if not give a better idea of what is going on.
    Best of Luck!

  • Stange behaviour HP printer Photosmart B9180

Today suddenly i have troubles printing from Adobe Photoshop CS5.
When i choose print, the settings dialog comes. Then when i press " print settings " Photoshop crashes
    Exception Type:  EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGBUS)
    Exception Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE at 0x00007fff78b6d3f8
When i save my image and print it with Aparture i can perform all settings BUT the print result is a paper dripping in wet ink. The printer spoils the whole paper with all colours making one mass of wet ink.  (luckely i could clean the floor, because the ink dripped of all sides of the paper)
I noticed a recent update of HP printer software for OSX Lion from Apple? Maybe it has to do something with this?
When i print a testpage from the built in printer menu it works perfectly.

I solved my problem. (thanks to Robin Warren)  It's all about the new HP printerdriver that was rolled out 8 aug 2011, called Version 3.3
The crash problems and the huge ink spill problems are gone.
I posted my problem in the HP forum also:
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Mac-printing-and-scanning/Very-stange-behaviour-Pho tosmart-B9180-prints-with-huge-amount/td-p/804413
The solution is roll back to driver version 3.2 !
This driver is not available on Apple and HP, so follow the instruction in the HP posting ( in short, replace the HP folder in Printers from a backup)
If you do not have a timemachine copy from 2 months ago, i provided the whole HP folder as a download.
I know it's not the best way to solve problems, but i'm annoyed that there was NOBODY from HP supporting my threath.

  • Photosmart 2570 paperfeed problem

I've had a Photosmart 2570 since Sept 2006 with no major problems. Recently had a paper jam and after clearing jam the paper now momentarily stops at correct position but then continues to feed through to about half the A4 page and stops. The 'clear paper jam - then press OK' message is displayed even though the paper has not jammed. Pressing the OK button moves the sheet through and another sheet is fed in with the same result.
    I have tried the following-
Checked for paper fragments in paper path.
    Cleaned rollers.
Changed paper size on print request screen.
Checked for new software and drivers with HP Solution Centre.
Reset printer to factory default settings through printer tools menu.
    Did a partial reset.
    Did a power reset.
Deleted and reinstalled the printer software on the PC
I think the firmware in the printer may need to be reloaded. Can any one advise how to do this or have any other suggestions.
    Thanks

I have exactly the same problem. Printer is also approx 6 years old and out of teh blue started giving the same paper feed issue. If anyone has any ideas I'd be grateful....I've already uninstalled and reinstalled the printer software...thanks

  • The famous Photomerge Panorama problem is resolved!

The PSE7 Panorama Error problem that has plagued me and that I've posted about here is now resolved. And this may help others who are still having it.
I run a program I found a long time ago called CCleaner. I assumed that, whenever I ran it, it cleaned everything bad, including the Registry. My good wife said no, it doesn't, and showed me how to clean the registry. There was a ton of junk in there and out it went. Tried the Panorama and eureka!, it worked.
    CCleaner is a free program.
Thanks to all who made suggestions.

Why is Adobe continuing to ignore the many forum threads inquiring about this same problem?  IMO, this issue continuing year-after-year (and version after version) represents irresponsible decision-making on the part of their Change Control Board / maintenance management, for such a fundamental operation as photo-stitching.
In particular, when the same two images can be merged successfully using any of a number of separate photo-stitch apps from other vendors, yet crashes Adobe Photoshop, then ipso facto, where do YOU think the blame lies?
In my opinion as a software programmer, an attempt to perform such a basic operation as merging two images, regardless of their size, should NOT cause a frickin' crash.  Programmatically, this speaks to (a) poor memory management, and (b) terrible error-detection/handling/reporting.
By several accounts in those forum threads, this problem continues with the latest OS updates, the latest driver updates, the latest Adobe Photoshop updates/versions, more-than-adequate RAM, more-than-adequate disk space, AFTER re-setting the Adobe Photoshop Preferences to defaults, etc., etc., etc.  ...       Crashing Adobe Photoshop is an unacceptable outcome for such a fundamental operation, even if one is working with photos that are truly of larger-than-normal size.  It's COMPLETELY inexcusable when the images in question are of standard sizes produced by current-day camera technology.  The workaround of resizing the original photos is an unacceptable option for someone who is attempting to maximize a print size without resolution loss.

  • Photosmart D5160 weird problem

The D5160 goes offline randomly.  It also has the power button flash about every 6 seconds but no other lights on or flashing or messages.  I go to the win xp control panel and printers and faxes and it shows as offline,  I click on use it online and it does not go online but after 10 to 15 minutes (almost randomly) it will ding dong on the computer and the printer comes on line.  Then the power button is solid green and the print button is green and it will print.  Then it will randomly go offline again.  Please help me solve this.  I did the latest driver download and installed.  I checked the power cord and wiggled and no issue.  I changed USB cord.   Thanks in advance.  Joe.

I have exactly the same problem with my printer.  Just refuses to turn on most of the time now.  Regardless of how long you leave it switched off at the power brick (even left it overnight), as soon as you turn the mains power on, power light comes on and then flashes off briefly every 6 seconds.   I can confirm it is definately not the power supply or cartridges at fault as I also have a Photosmart 2575 which uses the same cartridges and power supply and swapping them all around, the fault stays with the printer.  It's also not PC, USB cable or software related as it is just the same without a USB cable connected.  (printer should be able to print direct from a memory card to paper without the use of a PC in any case, but doesn't).. I've also tried pressing all combinations of buttons to wake it up with no success.  If you leave it for a hours it will occasionally wake itself up but not for long.  I did take the opportunity whilst it seemed to be working of printing something but as soon as I sent the print job from the PC, it went back to sleep and didn't even start printing.   I think the printer is faulty and inclined to throw it away unless anyone has any ideas ?
