Photosmart C4580 All-In-One - Error Message: Print Cartridge(s) missing or not detected

I have recently encountered a problem with my printer.
I went to print a document and the following error message was displayed on the printer "Print Cartridge(s) missing or not detected", and the document would not print.
I am unsure as to why this message was displayed as I had not changed anything to do with the printer.
The cartridges that were in the printer had been in the printer since October so I thought that it could be due to the cartridges needing to be replaced, therefore, I changed the black ink cartridge. Once the cartridge had been replaced the error message disappeared and the document printed.
However, I went to print another document shortly after and the error message reappeared and the document would not print.
Due to the fact that changing the black cartridge cleared the error message, I replaced the colour cartridge, however, this did not cure the error message this time.
I have followed all of the advice on the HP support pages about cleaning the contacts etc, however, it has not worked. I have also contacted the support team by Email, but have had no reply.
Does anyone know how to cure the problem, or if in fact it can be cured. I am a university student and desperately need the use of my printer, so any help would be appreciated.

Yes it did get resolved in the end.
It seems that the fault came from using remanufactured or re-filled cartridges.
I had to replace both of the cartridges so that they were genuine HP cartridges.
Originally I only replaced the one that was causing the problem, but in the end I had to replace both of them. This then resolved the problem immediately.

If not, I would advise contacting the HP support team as when they finally replied to my email they were very helpful and quick to reply to queries and offer advice and suggestions.

C4385-print cartridge(s) missing or not detected

Hello - this may be a systemic issue, but we'll begin at the beginning. Moved my printer and plugged in to new location, then began receiving this error message:
print cartridge(s) missing or not detected
have tried reseating both cartridges repeatedly, as well as powering down and up again. i'm stumped. and of course, i really, REALLY need to run this print job.
Any ideas out there?

Sorry to hear about your cartridge problem. You can check this article if you haven't tried cleaning the inks yet. You can have the cartridge/s checked by calling HP Tech Support.

My printer says print cartridge(s) missing or not detected. I have a HP Photosmart C4200 & the cartridges have worked in the past. I have popped the cartridges out & back in to get it to print twice, but now that doesn't work. Is the problem in my printer or have the drivers installed on my iMac become corrupted? I have the CD that came with the printer but to reinstall the drivers I would need to uninstall the ones on my iMac. I don't know how to do that. Does anyone know how to uninstall printer drivers? My OS is OSx but I don't know which version. My iMac is 3.5 years old.

How to fix - print cartridge(s) missing or not detected

have an all-in-one c4280 photosmart, CC210A. getting message that cartridges are not detected. Both are properly loaded. I suspect a sensor is crapped out. maybe ink over-spray over time? how to fix??

I had been printing and the message "Print cartidge missing or not detected" came up. I knew I was in trouble when I tried a new HP cartridge and it didn't change the message. Found this site and I have tried all the steps in the "How to Fix - Print Cartridges missing or not detected" and nothing has worked so far. Also found a thread on another site about how to do a partial reset on your printer. That didn't work either. I have had the printer 4 years. What are the chances of repairing...and where can I take it to get repaired ....or is it worth it?

I don't know EG01 transaction, but if SAP says "material 5 does not exist " then SAP is usually right.
Can you give an evidence that material 5 exists? e.g. screenshot from SE16 at table MARA, MARC and MAST

C4580 says Print cartrigde(s) missing or not detected

My Photosmart c4580 suddenly stop printing in the middle of an papir and said: "Print cartrigde(s) missing or not detected".
I have tried to take out the cartrigde and reinstal it, but that didn´t help.
Any suggestions???

I am not sure which Diagnostic utlity you used previously. I have included the two which should assist with your printing issue. Try the Print Diagnostic utility first.

Photosmart C4180 All-in-One. While printing it stopped and the power button is orange. Nothing works

Hi, I have a Photosmart C4180 All-in-One. So far it worked perfectly.
Tonight I had to print a few pages and right in the middle of it, it stopped leaving the page halfway.
Also the on/off button stays orange and there is an exclamation point underneath it.
I removed the page and turned off the power by removing the plug (pressing the on/off button didn't work).
While putting the plug back in, the power came on again... but the on/off button remains orange. Nothing works.
Does anybody recognize this problem and/or does anybody have a solution for this?

Try and print a hardware self test on the printer to find out if it is a hardware or software issue.HP Photosmart (D110), Photosmart Wireless (B110), and Photosmart Ink Advantage (K510) e-All-in-One Printer Series - Printing a Network Configuration Page. Check to see if you still have a valid IPv4 address. If you have a valid IPv4 address for the printer then try and access the Embedded Web Server for the printer.
Type the IPv4 address into your web browser's address bar. (Safari)Did it load the web page? If you were able to access the printer's Embedded Web Server, please try the following steps: Repair the Disk Permissions on the Mac:Close all applications.On the Apple menu bar, click Go, click Applications and then click Utilities.Double-click Disk Utility.Highlight your hard drive/partition on the left.Click Verify and then Repair Disk Permissions. The HP Deskjet 3050A All-In-One J611 series printer I just bought is not compatible with my Mac Book Pro. What do I need to do?

I recently purchased an HP Deskjet 3050A All-In-One J611 series printer and it is not compatible with the version of the operating system on my mac book pro. I am currently running on OS X 10.4.11 and the printer is compatible with v10.5 or higher. What can I do to update the operating system on my Mac Book Pro?

10.5 will be harder to find & more expensive, I think I'd go for 10.6
Leopard requirements/10.5.x...

HP Photosmart C4580 All in one

Since upgrading to Snow Leopard my All in one C4580 will not scan. I just get an error notice saying that the printer cannot be initialised. It still prints, no problem. Is there a fix for this yet?

Here is what I did to get my scan with OCR working today after updating to 10.6. Noticed yesterday the OCR function was not working with the scan on my HP C5580 Photosmart all in one.
1. I did an uninstall of the HP software using the HP uninstaller that is located in the HP folder in Applications.
2. Went to the HP Downloads/Support @ hp.com and downloaded the latest update for my printer and 10.6 OSX from HP.
Installed that and during installation it asked if I wanted a scan button in the dock? I said yes.
Then I did a reboot and then did a software update from Apple and it said now it had an HP update which I had it do.
Now, when I use the dock scan button, the scan and OCR function work great. If I try to do it from Preview or using the Printer System Pref window, the OCR function won't work.
It may have been roundabout, but seemed to work for me.

HP Photosmart C4580 All-In-One Mac OSX 10.5

My printer no longer works as a printer, it will copy and scan but will not print.
I rebooted several times both printer and computer, no change.
Then I deleted the printer and added it back, and no success, the printer is gone.
I used the CD to reinstall the software, no printer.
I downloaded the software and drivers and the disk image would not mount, because it was not recognized.
Anyone have any ideas?

Hello, I don't have a floor model of that printer available and the manual for this printer does not mention the pump motor. But I would first try removing and reseating all the cartridges in the printer and power cycle the machine. If you are still getting that error message I would do a hard reset that involves removing the cartridges. No user settings are lost with a hard reset and it is a very common tool used to try to resolve a hardware issue with a printer. To do a hard reset with removing the cartridges:
While the machine is powered on take all the cartridges out of the machine. Close cartridge access.
Then pull the power cord out of the rear of the Product, and then unplug the cord from the wall outlet.
Wait at least 20 seconds.
Plug power cord back into wall outlet and then back in the rear of the printer. It should power on by itself but after 10 seconds or so use the power button to turn machine on
Wait for printer to go through start up process and as it recognizes the cartridges are missing (the display panel will inform of missing cartridges) put them back in their slots.
