Photosmart C4795 dozes off

Today I finally decided to use the C4795's wireless function on my home network.  Everything connected fine wirelessly, and as I go from computer to computer they could all see it and installed the software for it.
The trouble is that after a period of time, say 5-10 minutes, the printer itself starts acting up.  As in, it either gets terribly slow or stops responding altogether.  Rebooting the printer does the job each time, but what a pain that whoever would like to print something will likely have to reboot the printer before doing it.  So I am asking for assistance resolving this issue.
I am not a wireless or networking newbie, so I have that going for me.  I have tried everything that makes sense.  The printer is assigned a static DHCP IP address via the router to 192.168.1.102.  No firewalls or virus software to speak of that could be hanging it up.
I am convinved that the printer itself is the issue.  On reboot I can type its IP address and get the printer's network menu.  Five minutes later, I try to do the same and the screen hangs.  I verify with the router the printer is still connected, and it is.
I noticed there was a firmware upgrade for certain serial numbers, so I downloaded that and attempted to try it.  However, every time I get an error message that the printer could not be detected.  This includes if I have the printer mainlined into the computer and fully installed with a USB cable, so what gives with that?  (Note that having it installed via USB works 100% perfect.)
Any ideas?  Is the printer dozing off?  The only thing I can think to try next is to assign a static DHCP IP address via the printer's settings instead of the router's.

OK, I have a few ideas.  One is to use the printer's settings to set a static IP outside the DHCP range:
Let's set a static IP address for the printer:
- Print a Network Config Page from the front of the printer. Note the printer's IP address.
- Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
- Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.
- On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range).
- Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)
- Leave the gateway and DNS blank. Click 'Apply'
Now, shut down the router and printer, start the router, wait, then start the printer.
After this you may need to redo 'Add a Printer' using the new IP address.
What brand/model router are you using?  Does it have updated firmware?  This is often a router problem.
Also, MAC filtering is not very secure since it sends the MAC addresses in the clear.  Read more here.  Turn MAC filtering off as a troubleshooting step...

  • C4795 printer off line

    I have a HP Photosmart C4795
I have been using it wirelessly.
Today when attempting to print, I get the message "printer off line", "printer not connected"
I have been using it with my Mac (osX 10.7.5)
I did recently add a new wireless router to my home network (Mac Airport Express).
However I thought that the printer did not use the home wireless network, but rather it's own internal bluetooth.
    Help?

    Try these steps:
    1. Restore Network Defaults on the printer (Wireless>Wireless Settings>Restore Network Defaults>Yes).
    2. Rerun the Wireless Setup Wizard from the printer front panel to connect the printer to the router (Wireless>Wireless Settings>Wireless Setup Wizard).
    3. Select your router from the list and enter the network password to connect the printer.
    4. After the printer is connected, run the printer software on the Mac to discover the printer over the network connection.
    5. Remove the old printer instance and Add the new printer using the + button in System Preferences>Print and Fax.

  • Saving scanned doc error message when using Mac Maverick with HP Photosmart C4795

When I use HP Scan to scan documents with my HP Photosmart C4795 it scans fine.  The problems comes when I try to save the scanned document. I get one of two things, an error message or black document.  I get an error that states "An error has occurred saving the file because it could not be written to.  Check the properties for the file to make sure it is not read-only.  I know that's the location is not read only because I save documents there all the time from other programs.    When I get the black document, I open the file and its a black page with white lines going across.
This started happening when I upgraded to Maverick.  When I had snow leopard I didn't have this problem.  I looked for update drivers and there aren't any available on the HP software & drivers webpage.  HP help! Any suggestions please help.

    Hi,
That happens due to lack of compatibility of the HP Scan application for your device with Mavericks, it is not intended for the operating system and will cause issues while saving a file.
Be sure to run Software Update, then scan using Image Capture or Preview as listed below.. those are the scan solutions provided for Mavericks:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03550518&tmp_task=useCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=e...
Once you launch Image Capture, I would suggest keeping it on the dock for easier access.

  • Photosmart C4795 won't print (most of the time)

I have a Photosmart C4795 installed on two computers, one with XP, the other Vista. The installation(with the Vista computer) went smoothly, along with all tests and some documents of my own, and on the XP one. After a few months it started giving me a "paper not found issue". I discovered I needed to push hard enough to get the paper in far enough, but not too far. Now (on the XP computer) it says its printing, pulls in the paper and then sits until I get an error message on my computer. I went through all the guided solutions and none worked. The XP computer is an HP Mini 1000, and updating HP doesn't change anything.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

I managed to get it working by sending the document a second time, then cancelling the errored print job on my computer, and after it was cancelled on the computer cancelling on the printer. The moment the paper ejected I placed it on the paper tray at a point an inch away from where I was told to in the animations. Then it started on the second print job and worked (it stopped because I only had one page, but resumed when I placed the paper at the same spot and pushed OK.) If the whole problem was in fact where I was placing the paper I wish the animations would show proper positioning.
If anyone needs assistance or clarification on how I made it work again please reply.

  • Resetting SSID on Photosmart C4795 in Apple Environment

    Hi all -
Our old wireless router kicked the bucket so we bought a new one, which has a different SSID and password than the old.  Now my Photosmart C4795 won't connect to the network.
I've looked all over for a place to reset the settings, but I can't find it.  I've unplugged the printer forever and still nothing.  It saves the old SSID and there's no wizard.
I have two Macs - an iMac and a MacBook Air - and I can't get anything to register for adding a new printer.
    Please help!

First, on the printer control panel go to Setup [Scan] > Network > Reset Network Defaults.
Now, if your new router has WPS (look in its manual), you can start the WPS process in the same network area of the printer control panel.  Then, within two minutes, press the WPS button on the router and the two will connect!

  • HP Photosmart C4795 Wireless Setup (Error Messege: Device Not Connected) Help?!?

I've had my HP Photosmart C4795 since 2009. I've haven't had any major issues with the printer until recently (probably time to get a new one).
This is my issue; the printer can't connect to my network. I'm able to print via USB from my Mac or PC. But I'd like to be able to print from any computer on my home network. In the past I've setup the printer to network with minor issue. I've had issues ever since the Mountain Lion Update (running version 10.8.3).
I've attempted to try once again to connect the printer to the network and I get an error message from my the HP Installer software (Device Not Connected). I've tried to troubleshoot the printer with no luck. These are solutions I've tried
    1) Uninstalled HP Installer Software/Setup via Mac  - I added the printer using the latested instructions provide from HP Supports section. I set up the printer but I can't it isn't showing up on any other computer.
    2) WPS - My router (supplied by Comcast) couldn't find the printer. I used routers login website to connect the printer but it didn't work.
    3) I've printed out the HP Network Configuration Page and manually add the printer's MAC Address to list on my router's devices list. I still can't connect wirelessly to the printer.
I've connected this printer wirelessly in the past before the Mountain Lion Update. Can anyone help?

First, on the printer go to Setup [Scan] > Wireless > Restore Defaults.
Then, set the printer up using WPS (pushbutton) - start it in the printer (Wireless menu) first, then the router within 2 minutes of starting it on the printer.
There is no HP software for 10.8, so you need to uninstall it.   Uninstall the software using the 'scrubber' option:
Go to Applications/Hewlett Packard/ click on HP Uninstaller
    Click on Continue
Highlight your device on the left pane
Press and hold Control + Alt + Cmd keys on the keyboard simultaneously while you click on Uninstall This IS the Scrubber Option, there is no button labeled "Scrubber"
There will be a pop up that asks if you are sure you want to uninstall ALL hp software. (At this point, if you continue, any HP printers you have installed will need to be reinstalled)
Click Continue and let it finish
    Download and install this: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL907
    Restart your Mac.
    Now reset the printing system:
    - Sys Prefs, Print & Fax
    - Right (control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
    - Select the plus sign to re-add it. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.

  • Unable to connect Photosmart C4795 to secure wireless home network

I recently purchased a Photosmart C4795 for use on a secure home wireless network that only has two laptops on it.  I am using a Belkin G Wireless Router and Windows XP as an operating system.  The network uses WEP privacy, and I have I know I have to do something with the passphrase and the printer...but I just can't figure out where or how.  This is how my problem goes:
I followed the setup wizard, and press the WPS button on the router when prompted.  The printer's blue light turns on, and I proceed to  choose the "Wireless network connection (802.11)" option to connect the device.  I then select "No (or not sure), my printer is connected to my network.  Help me to setup the wireless network connection for my printer"
From there, I connect my laptop to the printer via USB as prompted, and the wizard begins installing several components (x/9) but always gets stuck on step 6 for a few minutes, and then says "Printer Setup has failed to complete."  After retrying this a couple times, my only choice is to check "Continue the installation without connecting to the printer now, I will connect later" and click Next.  The wizard ends, saying I'll have to add the device later, so when I go that option I once again choose "Wireless network connection"  From there, it gives me a blank printer list.  No printers, let alone the one I want, show up after Refreshing.  So when I click "my printer is not listed" I'm then back at square one where I am prompted to USB connect the printer and it just loops over the same errors.
Does anyone please have some advice or opinions?  I've tried calling customer support and I've browsed the forums, but I haven't found the solution and I'm just pretty confused.  Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

    Let's add the printer manually.
Verify that you can browse to the printer's internal web page by its IP address into a browser.  (The IP address is on the Network Config Page that you can print from the printer's front panel).
    1. Click "Start" button --> Printers and Faxes.
    2. Under Printer Tasks, click "Add Printer".
    3. Click "Next" button on the Add Printer Wizard window.
    4. Select "Local printer attached to this computer". Deselect "Automatically detect and install My Plug and play printer". Click "Next".
    5. Under Select a Printer Port option, select "Create a new port" and select "Standard TCP/IP Port" and click "Next" button.
    6. In the "Welcome to the Add Standard TCP/IP printer port wizard" make sure that the printer is turned on and connected to same network that your computer is connected to. Click "Next" button.
    7. Under "Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port" enter the printer's IP address. Click "Next" then click "Finish".
    8. Now, select HP from the list of manufacturers, select your printer from the list of Printer models and click 'Next' button.
    9. If you can't find your printer, you'll need to find the install CD and use the "Have Disk" option to select one of the hp*.ini files. Alternatively, you can select another HP printer model that is a similar type (series).
    10. Add the print spooler name and click "Next".
    11. Click "Next"
    12. Click "Next" and then "Finish"

I have a Mac running Mavricks which the wireless printing works with my HP Photoshmart C4795 Printer but the wireless scanning to my Mac is not working. I am getting the error: "hp photosmart c4795. scan error. try scan from computer or see documentation. press ok"
It used to work. I've downloaded and installed the patch for Mavericks.
I have searched for other solutions but none are for a Mac to do a diagnostic test on the HP page.
Any solutions to make this feature work again?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Scanning from the front panel is no longer available on Mavericks as there is no Full Feature Software for the operating system.
Using the provided solution, you may scan using Image Capture. preview or Printers & Scanners.
Below you may find the steps to scan on 10.9:

It sounds like the router's DHCP may be changing the IP address too frequently for the printer software to keep up with it.
I recommend setting a static IP address as it resolves many network issues with printers in general.

  • HP Photosmart C4795 - power screen issues

HP Photosmart C4795 - Windows 7 - My printer menu screen is frozen in a set-up mode.  I can still print from my computer when plugged in, but anything else is telling me my printer isn't ready.  I think it might have resulted from a power surge but I've since changed the surge protector, reset the power cord, swapped out the power cord and plugged directly into a different outlet and nothing seems to fix it.  Any help is appreciated.

    Hey @apaggs ,
Thank you for joining us on the HP Forums today, hope you enjoy your time with us!
I gather from your post that you have a frozen screen on your printer after a power surge and you are wondering if you are going to be able to recover the printer from that issue.
Unfortunately the printer display is permanently broken. The printer will no longer be able to perform its screen functions.
If you are in Canada or US call 800 474 6836, or you can Contact HP Worldwide.
HP printers generally have a 1 year warranty from their purchase date, you can verify the warranty using the following link if you would like; warranty check.

  • HP Photosmart C4795 Failed to find device driver

    Hi all,
I am stumped! I have a HP 2000 Notebook PC with Windows 7 64 bit and I am trying to install my HP Photosmart C4795 all in one printer.  Before I was able to use my laptop with the HP Photosmart C4795 printer, but don't know why recently I cannot use it anymore.  I thought it was a virus issue so I installed an antivirus software and ran a few sweeps, removing all the malwares and threats.  Note: My laptop is up to date with all the Windows Update.  I tried deleting and downloading the most recent driver for the printer and re-install the software but no luck.  It will install the software, but at the end it just says fail to install device driver.  I tried all the troubleshoots and still nothing.  I don't know why but I use to be able to use it, but all of a sudden it wouldn't anymore.  I have another laptop (Compaq) and it will connect to the printer, just not my HP laptop.
Please, any help is appreciated. Thanks

    Hi rheu83,
I understand that you are having a problem getting the Photosmart C4795 printer connected to your HP Windows 7 NoteBook. I will try my best to help you resolve this issue.
Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor to see if it is reading your printer as being installed and working.
If not, then I recommend using the HP Officejet Pro Software and Driver Removal Utility to remove all the software and drivers from your NoteBook. DO NOT run the Level 4 as it will remove software that needs to be on your HP NoteBook.
Then use the HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows to find and download the software and drivers for your printer.
I hope this information helps. Please let me know how it goes.
    Thank you,
I worked on behalf of HP.
