Photosmart C8180. How to reset ink cartridges?

I bought a HP Photosmart C8180 in the Netherlands using 363 ink cartridges. Moved to South Africa and here the ink cartridges are 177. How do I reset the printer to take the new cartridge?
Thanks

Hi - You'll have to contact HP Support for assistance with resetting your printer for a different region.  This partricular reset should be covered under warranty.  Here is the contact information for South Africa.  They'll be able to reset the printer so it will accept the cartridges from South Africa.
Hope that helps.

  • HP Photosmart D7260 need the introductory ink cartridges?

I was given this printer. It was new and never hooked up before but the introductory ink wasn't given to me with the printer. I had no problem downloading the drivers and setting it up until it got to checking the ink. It gave me an error messages ( I bought all new ink cartridges) about the ink not being the intro ink that came with the printer. Is there some way around this, if not, does someone have a link to where I can buy another set of the introductory ink so I can finish getting this printer set up?

  • How long do Ink cartridges last?

I have a Photosmart premium 309 g-m printer that is trying to tell me that my ink cartriges are near empty even though they have had very little use. I bought genuine HP cartridges, fitted them, all worked well at first but now several months later - empty! What is going on here, no way have I USED that ink. The same happened with the set that came with the printer. I even put a 364XL black in and that has now failed completely. Does not using the printer much at all over several months result in the ink evaporating, drying out leaking out or what?
When I put the 364XL black in I left the old standard 364 black out altogether but the printer gave error messages so I fitted the old one back in thinking it would use the new XL version - is there any way of checking this? Gratefull for any help here.

Sorry Ciara, missed the bit about the error messages - basically if I remove the standard 364 black cartridge (which is the original one that came with the printer and is probably empty now) I get a message telling me it is either broken or missing and nothing prints until I replace it. After I'd replaced the original cartridges with new ones (except the standard black which I thought I would not need using the 364 XL instead) everything was fine to start with, I just assumed the printer was using the XL black and just wanted the standard (empty) black for comfort!?
I'm a bit confused now as to what to buy - 4 standard cartridges alone or with a XL black as well. I don't see the point of the XL if I have to use a standard black anyway to get the printer to work at all, especially as they are all going to run out after 6 months whether I use them or not.
Thanks again for your help so far, Brian.

  • HP "02" ink cartridges replaced by "363" ones

I have a Photosmart 3200 which takes 02 ink cartridges.  These are now obsolete and have been replaced by 363 cartridges, but when I load the 363 cartridges, the printer will not accept them as it realises that they are not 02 which it is expecting.
As a result, I can no longer print anything since one of the colours is empty, I can not buy 02 cartridges any more, and the printer will not accept the replacement 363 cartridges.  How can I rectify this problem please?.

Hi - The problem your running into is the fact that the printer is regionalized and will only accept ink cartridges from the region it was purchased in.  If it was originally accepting 02 cartridges, you'll need to contact HP Support who can perform a one time "reset" so that the printer will accept the cartridges (363) from the country you're currently living in.
    Hope that helps.

  • How do I get the "non HP Ink Cartridge" pop up to go away??? HP Photosmart 7520

After my trial ink ran out on the HP Photosmart 7520 I installed a non-hp ink cartridge.  It prints fine but EVERY SINGLE TIME I print anything I get a pop up saying I have a non-hp cartridge installed and the quality cannot be guaranteed.  It then gives me the option to shop HP online, cancel the print, or click ok to close it.  EVERY SINGLE TIME.  I print a lot of pages and this is extremely annoying.  There is no "do not show this message in the future" option.  How can I make this stop popping up????

OK, you're receiving this error because of the non HP cartridge you've installed. This message can be bypassed by selecting OK; it will not go away until you install HP ink. Until then you should be able to print.

  • New ink cartridges in Photosmart C5180 but still not printing clearly. How do I clean the heads?

I changed all 5 ink cartridges on my HP C5180 Photosmart All-in-One printer, but the print is still as if I'm out of black ink.  How do I clean the heads and realign them?

    steelpony5555 wrote:
When your printer stops printing one or 2 of the colors it means your print head is clogged. Tech support will have you remove the print head and clean the copper contacts on the bottom, but that is not enough. Hold the head in a rag and shake it, lots of ink will come out of the inside. I saw one case where the guy held his print head under hot water till it ran clear. Not sure of the long term effects on the head if you do that. Mine has clogged twice now and it has been ink inside the head.
I would absolutely suggest not shaking the printhead.  Ink is required in the printhead, and if air gets into the printhead it can cause printhead failure.  See this page for an ongoing discussion.
For the C5180 this is moot, since the printhead cannot be removed to shake it in the C5180 with its permanant printhead.  I would suggest three levels of printhead cleaning as described in Step 3 of this page for the c5180.

  • How do I reset the 940 ink cartridge chip on Officejet Pro 8500 Premier?

  • Help! Problem with Ink Cartridge Compatibility Photosmart C4383 in my present location

Need your help! I bought my printer in the Middle East almost 2years already Photosmart C4383 with the Ink Cartridges 140(black) & 141(tricolor).  Since, I already resides in my country now, the Philippines and I still use the printer.  Just this week, I already run out of Ink Supply and decided to buy one.  Since, I bought the printer in another country, I decided to check in the site for compatibility for Ink Cartridges.  The results stated that the Photosmart C4383 belongs to Photosmart C4380 series and it also states there that HP74 (black) & HP75 (tricolor) are the compatible cartridges for the printer in my region.  Since, I still have the tricolor 141 ink cartridge available, I decided to buy only the HP74 (Black) ink cartridge.  But when I place  the HP74 (Black) Ink Cartridge to my printer, I was surprised to see in the display screen that the Ink Cartridge I bought is not compatible with the printer. I was so disappointed because if I cannot use the product then I just waste of money and  and check again and again in the sites for ink compatibility in my region but still stated the same that HP74 (black) is the compatible ink cartridge and also saw a result that states to "reset the printer to work in my current location".  Needs your help to enlighten me and give me the right solutions for these problems and the steps how to do it the right way.   I need to use my printer so badly. Thanks.

You will need to Contact HP and request a regionalization reset.  This will require you have access to your computer and the printer while on the phone with the HP agent.  If the C4383 is a model only sold in certain regions it may not be possible to have the region reset.

  • How can I get my HP DeskJet 6540 to recognize the new ink cartridges I installed?

Hi everyone. I have an HP DeskJet 6540 printer and I replaced the ink cartridges. After I replaced the cartridges, I aligned them and then did a test print. I noticed that the blank ink didn't print. I opened system preferences, and then I opened the printer utility. It says, "Device Status : Pen Failure." Current Supplies Levels says, "The current levels for the selected printer are shown below...Cartridge on the left (tri-color 97) is unknown and the the cartridge on the right (black 96) is missing." Oh, I forgot to mention that the print cartridge light on the left side is flashing. I went to the HP support website and it says that the problem could be an incorrect print cartridge, incompatible print cartridge, or problem with the (left/right) print cartridge.  The solution they offered was to remove, inspect and reseat the problem cartidge. It also said to clean the problem cartridge contacts. I did that and it still gives me the same results. I even reset the printer but still got the same results...
So the next thing I try is the OTHER cartridges listed as compatible with my printer which is 94 (black) and 95 (tri-color). I bought the new cartridges, placed them in the printer and I still got the same message from the print utility. I took the latter cartridges back and got a refund and explained that none of the compatible cartridges are working with my printer. I kept the 96 and 97 cartridges in the printer and the light on the left continues to flash so now I'm here asking if anyone knows how I can get my printer to recognize the new ink cartridges I installed?  Are there any other solutions that I have besides throwing the printer out of the window? :-)
    Thanks everyone ;-)

With all that you have done it does sound like the printer has a fault. If you haven't tried turning off the printer for several minutes, then this would be worth trying (maybe you have done this when you say reset the printer?).
If the cartridge light on the printer flashes when you turn the printer back on then it sounds like a hardware fault - not the driver or the operating system. And this is not usually something a user can resolve so it would need repair. And for the cost of a new printer, why would you bother.
If you plan of sticking with HP and getting another model that can use the 96 & 97 cartridges (let's face it, they often cost more than the new printer), then take the two existing cartridges to the store and see if they will let you check they are okay. No point throwing them out also if they still have a fair bit of ink still in them.
