Photosmart D110a and Pavillion dv7-1273cl

Vista 64
Error message is on the D110 when i try to scan a text page to the PC. Don't recall the exact words.
*** the short story below in blue.  i felt this need to tell the long story because i think it illustrates what we now accept from the PC world that leads to massive amounts of time wasted. Just MHO.
[ Gotta also say that the reason I don't have the exact words of the error message and didn't get to post a question in the contact support area yesterday after spending 45 minutes or so reading; looking for a solution before writing, is the result of a couple things. After fussing with the dysfunction for an hour or so a call came in that we were late for an appointment with a few friends ; so everything was put on hold until this morning. Now someone is sleeping in the room with the printer and the info that i need to get from the bottom of the unit. ]
In any event, i think that i know why the marriage between my two HP products are not working now. After working so well from the day that i married the printer wirelessly to the laptop. But here is my guess why they are not speaking. If i am wrong about this i can take it like a man but i have had problems all week since my friendly HP PC check told me that my bios needed to be flashed. From my old days when i attended a PC user group to learn PC's because "APPLE IS DEAD!" "This is a PC World and you better learn it now." So i joined a great group of PC fanatics many of them older guys who were in the industry since the dawning of computers ( two worked for the old Bell Labs where in 1964 i worked in what was then called ESS housed in a small black granite building in a park like setting in a very rural town in Northern NJ. The little building had no windows and i worked there right out of high school. Those who worked there told me that this little building was taking the place of a 5 story building of the type using a mix of technologies developed over the years to improve telephone service. They said that in essence this whole building was one giant computer and we worked inside the hardware. The Bell Labs folks worked on these "console" with hundreds of lights and tiny toggle switches. Each toggle was a zero in one position and a one in the other position; there was only up or down. The lights seemed to go on or off depending on position but used to change from time to time if something that they wrote didn't work out like they had planned. My joke at the time was: How many Bell Labs Engineers does it take to turn on a light bulb? ( The answer " As many as there are plus 1" some people thought it was very funny, some got mad at me for making jokes about them, most of the guys and one girl who worked in the building didn't get....and so it goes.
In any event, some of the leaders in the PC User Group were actually engineers from that period of time and loved the PC write instructions to do things ( ala DOS ) These were some smart heavy duty dude from another time. i trusted that they were correct and although i never tossed my MAC out i saw myself slipping over to the other side. i never ever put down MAC users nor did i make derogatory remarks about the OS the company nor Steve Jobs. With is passing this week i noticed that the media and the industry acknowledge his genius and accomplishments. And with all of the problems that i was/am having with my PC i find myself longing for a MAC thinking that this problem would never ever happen with a MAC. So before i move on i want to say that most of my PC user group buddies use to discourage "flashing the bios" or pay someone who has the knowledge and the equipment to assure that the flashed bios will work. i also recall them saying about flashing the bios: "If it's not broken don't try to fix it" So i took their advice and never flashed my bios and never seemed to suffer from making that choice.
***Flash ahead to a week or so ago. Everything was working well. A program that comes with my HP laptop checks it's "health" It tells me that the bios should be flashed. i don't recall it telling me why. i don't recall it telling to do anything special before running the update program except to save all documents and work and close all programs that are running. So i followed the instructions, the computer reboots. Everything looks good. Except i can not access the internet.
To keep this story as short as possible I'd like to say that after two days i managed to get back on the internet but i am not sure what i did to get there.
When a new version of Firebox presented a side window to expand and simplify my use of my photosmart device i figured that there might be a problem with a marriage that worked so well for 9 months or so. Sure enough...It seems that the printer recognizes the wireless network. And now my PC recognizes the wireless network. But they will not make that necessary next step and communicate.
How can a company make a suggestion like flash the bios and not give you a heads up about what might not work and if that happens what can be done?
Don't think Jobs would tolerate this way of operating.

  • Photosmart D110a Wireless Troubleshooting with D-Link DIR-655 and Mac OSX 10.8

    Good evening all,
Apologizes if this has already been posted. I've googled this issue a couple of times, but I still haven't found a solution for this problem.
I have the Photosmart D110a and I'm running Mac OSX Mountain Lion, and my router is a D-Link DIR-655 and my security is WPA-Personal and the router is running in 802.11gn mode. My ISP is Optimum Online.
The issue that I've been having is that the printer works wireless when everything has been recently booted up. As does the scanner. However, if it hasnt been used for a while, the printer shows up in the OSX Print & Scan settings page as idle, but when I try to print, the dialog just says "looking for printer" and never finds it, and just says "The printer is not connected" under the item in the OSX Print Queue. Because of this, I have to restart the computer or restart the printer for them to find each other again.
I've seen other solutions on here, such as giving the printer a static IP address, and this hasn't worked either. The printer is still accessible with the static IP address, which means it's still got a connection to my network, but for some reason the OS isn't recognizing it or something.
It's obvious that the printer works when everything is freshly rebooted, but I still haven't been able to figure out this issue once it's been idle for a while.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

    Hi,
Try following my post below, I believe it might be relevant as the router drops the Bonjour connection:
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Networking-and-Wireless/losing-connection-to-airprint-a-few-min...
I would also suggest updating your router's firmware and check if that may help:

For any help with this proccess I would highly recommend contacting Dlink support.

  • Windows 7 and photosmart d110a problems

I had to upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7. I tried to reinstall the soft ware for my HP Photosmart D110a and it won't finish the install either with the disc or online. I see the wizard and the driver software in my downloads, but The install will not finish, it just stops. The old software installtion has been removed before I tried this. Any help out there???

    Hello,
Please uninstall the existing printing software.
    Restart the PC.
Please download and run the HP Printer Install Wizard from www.hp.com/go/tools

  • Photosmart D110a will not re-install

I am running a desktop computer 32 bit Vista operating system. The printer was linked to the desktop via a USB cable and toy laptop via a wireless connection. The printer suddenly disappeared from my printer list and by the time I noticed it, it was too late to do a system restore. Since then I've tried everything to reinstall it, using both my install disk and the latest software from HP, both the install software and the driver. I've cleaned everyting off my computer, both files and registry enries with no success.
When I try to do a wireless connection, the install program detects the printer, but later on in the process it can't find it, even when I give it the IP address.
When I try a USB install, the driver installation fails. However, if I just connect the printer via USB cable, the driver loads, but there is no printer configured on my system. I've tried almost everything on the forum suggestions with no luck.

    Hi @harveyclyde,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand that your HP Photosmart D110a will not re-install on Windows Vista. I am sorry to hear this but happy to help!
Please take a look through this guide, 'Printer Not Found' Error Message Displays for the HP Photosmart (D110a and D110b) e-All-in-One Prin.... This is for the wireless connection.
For the USB connection, I would follow this guide, Windows: 'Device Setup Failed to Complete' or 'Unknown Device' Message Displays on the Computer Duri....
We will start with these guides, and see what happens.

  • HP Pavillion DV7 Hard Drive failure and replacement

    Hi all,
As the title mentions, I have an HP Pavillion DV7, p/n: NB406AV. The SMART is showing an imminent hard drive failure. The primary hard disk quick test stops at 4% and shows a code "303" for hard disk 1. It also stops at 4% when doing a full HD scan.
So, I'll be replacing the HD. I have no idea what to buy, and I plan on buying a non HP HD. Can anyone tell me the specs I should look for? I'd like to get the biggest GB HD that will be compatible as well. Thanks for your help!

    Hi,
It usesSATA HDD. Some dv7 models use SATA II but many later models use SATA III. SATA III is backwrd compatible but more expensive. DV7 is a series of hundreds different models and you won't go wrong with SATA III drive. It can accept current generation HDD's. The following HHD is a good choice with a good price/performance ratio per Gb:
       http://www.seagate.com/au/en/internal-hard-drives/laptop-hard-drives/laptop-solid-state-hybrid-drive...
You can use 1Tb on your machine. New HDD's are thinner but the screws will be lined up and should be strong enough to hold the HDD in place.
    Regards.

  • HP Photosmart D110a wont print from HP Pav dv7 laptop, getting weird error msg - can anyone help??

Im running on a Windows Visa Home Premium OS, looks like Service Pack 2, and have not made any system changes to my laptop or upgraded anything recently.
Was able to print fine from my laptop on Monday, but 3 days later Im getting this error message: ""the job failed to print due to an error in the printing system" when trying to print a standard MS Word doc.
I can still get the printer to print fine by using the control panel on the unit itself and requesting to "Run a Wireless Network Test" and also when I've requested a "Print Status Report", "Print Quality Report", etc.  But when sending files from the laptop it refuses to work.
If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know - desperate to get this thing back up online but unfortunately Im a tech idiot and havent been able to solve it yet, though Ive searched for hours now it seems.
Thanks in advance for any assistance you can offer!

I suspected a bad battery so I checked it without it just plugging it in with the power cable. It seemed to work better so I assumed that was the problem.
I ordered a new battery and it worked for a while. The problem came back and is getting worse. I can run it without the battery for a while but it gets got and shows the same message.
I read on here that flashing and updating the bios worked for some but the latest update gives me an error IHISI not support BIOS then Insyde flash not supported.

  • How do I get my iPad to recognize my HP Photosmart D110a?

Can you please tell me how to print to my HP Photosmart D110a?  My printer is connected and wireless.  Please be accurate with the step by step instructions if there is a way to do this.  I found one set of instructions that say not to use the DVD included but there are steps to get updated software from Apple???  For the printer?? or the iPad?     My iPad and printer both indicate they have the most updated software.
    Thank you.

OK.  On my iPad I tested it by going into my email.  In my email I chose the print option. It prints now after I made changes to my security in my network.
First, when setting up my modem for my network I had to choose WPA/WPA2 secure.
Next, on the printer settings I had to choose those same settings.
The iPad and iPhone then automatically (after inputting the wireless password) picked up the printer.

  • HP Photosmart D110a - Scanner no longer works after upgrading to OS Mavericks 10.9

I have an iMac. I upgraded my system to OS 10.9.5 Mavericks and the scanner of my multifunctional HP Photosmart D110a stopped working. Images imported by the scanner can not be saved in any format. I tried importing and saving from many different applications, as suggested in this forum, but none worked. I have read and researched this forum for at least 5 hours and none of the solutions worked! Neither for me nor for the people who had the same problem! I tried absolutely everything and nothing solved the problem! I downloaded drivers from various links provided, I reinstalled the printer multiple times, I read absolutely everything and no response from the HP team was satisfactory! The HP team indicates generic installation solutions, as if treating with stupid people. No objective response was presented! This seems like a joke! This is ridiculous!
Please, I require a clear and objective solution !!!
    Thank you

    Hi @LuloMusic
There is no full feature software and driver available from HP, but the OS X v10.9 Mavericks driver for your printer is available through Apple Software Update (ASU).
With this driver you can still print and scan, you just wont have HP software to scan from. Scanning to the computer from the printer control panel is only available when using HP Scan software, thus it will not work because there is no HP scan software as apart of the Apple Software Update driver.
This explains the issue you are having with the Scan software. That program, and any other HP Software for that printer that is on the computer was intended for an earlier version of the operating system not 10.9. Unexpected Scan Output Using HP Scan Application for HP Multifunction Printers When Using OS X v10.9...
Please complete the steps below to rid the computer of the incompatible software.
    Scrub/ Uninstall
Open the Applications folder > HP or Hewlett Packard folder > HP Uninstaller
Click continue, click on one of the printers in the list.
    * Only do this step if you do not have any other HP Printers.  Hold down Control, Option and Command, While holding the three buttons down,
    Click uninstall.
    Reset Printing System
Click the Apple icon (   ), and then click System Preferences.
In the Hardware section, click Print & Fax/Scan. The Print & Fax/Scan  dialog box opens.
Right-click (or  Ctrl  +click) in the left panel, and then click Reset printing system…
Click OK to confirm the reset.
Type the correct Name and Password.
Click OK to reset the printing system. The Print & Fax dialog box shows no printer selected
Note: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer removed can be re-added later by clicking the plus (+) symbol.
    Repair Disk Permissions
On the Dock, click Applications, and then click Utilities.
    Double-click Disk Utility.
Highlight your hard drive/partition on the left (by default this is "Macintosh HD").
Click the Repair Disk Permissions button at the bottom of the window.
Once the repair is complete, restart the computer.
    At this point you can connect a USB cable from the printer to the computer and you will be able to print and scan, or if the printer is already on your network you can add the printer to your System Preferences with these steps;
Please ensure you are using the HP driver
Select Add other Printer or Scanner
Select the printer you are adding and next to 'Use' you can choose the printer driver
    Now you can scan using one of the following methods;
Method one: Scan from the Print & Scan window
Method two: Scan from Apple Preview
Method three: Scan from Apple Image Capture
I hope this helps. If you have any additional questions or have any difficulty using any of these methods, please let me know what method you are trying and what the issue/error is. You may also find the following document helpful; OS X v10.9 Mavericks: Installing and Using the Printer on a Mac

  • PhotoSmart D110a Wi-Fi no longer working after move

I have a PhotoSmart D110a that I connect to via Wi-Fi (WPA security).  I've had the printer for several months. When I originally got it, it set up and it connected like a dream, and worked without a hitch since day 1.
This past weekend I moved into a new house, and once I had my network up and running again, the printer no longer works. I am using the same wireless router (Linksys E-series), with the same SSID and WPA password, and the same computers in the same configuration as previously worked in the old house. Needless to say, the computers can connect to the Internet through the wireless router just fine, and they are sitting right next to the printer (so there should be no signal strength issue).
What happens is this.  The printer claims that it is properly connected to my network, but neither computer on the network can find the printer. I have used the printer's wireless networking setup utility to re-join the network (it seems to find the correct network, no problem), and re-enter the password through the printer's keyboard utility, as well as using the WPS method (i.e. "pushing the buttons") to re-connect the printer to the network. Every time, the printer says that it has connected just fine, and is able to print out a network status page. The IP address listed is in the 194.168.x.x range.
But every time, neither my computer nor my wife's laptop (both 64-bit Windows 7 machines) can detect the printer on the network. I have tried adding a new printer via the native Windows program, as well as uninstalling and reinstalling HP's software, to no avail. I have also tried inputting the IP address the printer claims into the computers manually, but the computers still cannot find the printer.
I would be grateful for any and all assistance. It's quite frustrating - for all the printer's concerned, it's working just fine, but it's not, and literally nothing has changed except the physical location of the equipment (same ISP, same cable modem, same wireless router, same computers, same printer). Thanks in advance.
    This question was solved.

OK, well, are you sure that the printer and the computers are on the same network?  Probably are, but stranger things have happened.

  • I have a Pavillion dv7 error message HARD DRIVE ERROR How do I correct this?

My computer is a Pavillion dv7  model WW181AV  running Windows 7
no changes have been made for quite some time (over a year)
During startup- the HARD DISK ERROR comes on.  Iran the diagnostics as listed in the HP Diagnostic screen and no error found.  Cannot get rid of this error how can I fix this?

If the hard disk diagnotics report no problem then the issue is with your operating system.
A windows 7 startup repair disk should resolve the issue.  Windows 7 Startup repair disks are not freely downloadable. You will need to have acces to a PC or notebook that is running the same version and type (32 or 64-bit) as your installed OS. When you have access to such a PC and a blank DVD, then you can make a repair disk of your own.

  • HP Photosmart d110a driver not installing.

    I'm running Windows 7 (64 bit). and I have a HP Photosmart d110a.
I've tried installing both the basic driver and the full driver. Both of which give me an error stating "The system cannot find the file specified" which makes no sense seeing as I'm using an installer and it should create any file I need for installing in the first place.
When trying to wirelessly connect to my printer two options show up (I only have the one Printer) and neither of them work. My Printer's Wireless Network Test prints out perfect. and another laptop has connected and prints just fine.
I've used CCleaner to fix registry problems. There are none.
I have multiple entries (21 to be exact) in my device manager of this printer, none of which will be removed or uninstalled. And an entry under imaging devices of the printer that also refuses to be unistalled or removed.
I've used a Level 4 HP uninstaller program to remove everything and start over but that doesn't seem to have helped either (especially because the entries are still there in device manager.)
I've literally been working on this problem for days searching for a solution online and nobody can seem to help me. Calling HP Tech support they wanted to charge me $99 to fix it. I could buy a whole new printer for that much. Please help!

Hello Kyren11, and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I understand that you are having installation issues.  I would like to try and help.
I would recommend turning off any firewalls and real time scanners you may have running. Once that has been completed, I would suggest putting your system into clean boot mode within the Microsoft configuration.  You can do so by following this document: How to perform a clean boot in Windows.
Once the computer is in clean boot mode, I would reinstalling the HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows.
Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

  • HP Pavillion DV7

    I am completely frustrated.
Almost 3 years ago I purchased the HP DV7 laptop. It is supposed to be a flagship of HP laptop range. I am currently still paying on the laptop with I shall complete the payment in June 2014. To date, I have experienced nothing but TROUBLE. Within the first year, the first laptop hard drive packed up. This was successfully replaced by HP. However, I have had to pay somone to re-install the software as the installation HP did, did not function properly and the recovery drive was missing so i could not do ti myself.
Less than a year later, my screen packed up. Once again, I sent it in for repairs and the screen was replaced.
My subwoofer on the laptop then packed up and I called in again only to be advised that my warrantee has expired even thou I am still paying on the product.
My second hard drive packed up soon afterwards and I was forced to purchase a new hard drive which cost me in access of R 1500.00.
And my final blow.....my screen has gone bonkers again.
I now own a USELESS FLAGSHIP HP PAVILLION DV7 LAPTOP WORTHLESS R 17500.00.
I bought an ACER for R 2500.00 about two months after I purchsed my HP DV7 for my wife. It still operates as the day I purchased it.
    My Thoughts.....
DO NOT BUY HP PRODUCTS. HP = HIGH PRICE = HIGHLY PERISHABLE = HIGH PROBLEMS
I am uterly disgusted by HP as they are supposed to be world leaders in design and technology with a reputable brand. R19000.00 later, and all I have is a laptop good enough for a RUBBISH DUMP.
THANK YOU HP FOR WASTING MY HARD EARNED MONEY. I WILL NEVER SUPPORT YOU AGAIN NOR PURCHASE ANY OF YOUR PRODUCTS NOR WILL I RECOMMEND ANY OF YOUR PRODUCTS TO MY CLIENTS, COLLEGUES, FRIENDS, FAMILY AND ANYONE ELSE WHO ASKS.
From great believer and supporter of HP products for almost 20 years, BUT NO MORE.

Do you have another computer with a DVD burner available? If it has Windows Vista or later you can download the free ISO Recorder here:
    http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm
Install this program on the computer. Download the .iso to the desktop. Right click and open with the ISO Recorder program. Have a blank burnable DVD in the drive.
Once the DVD is burned insert it in the DVD drive of the laptop. Tap F9 as you power up to select the DVD drive as the boot device. You have the new blank hard drive installed. Follow Windows 7 install prompts. If you need more specific help with installing Windows 7 let me know. When Windows 7 is installed you can come to this site and get the drivers needed to complete the installation.
Here is the driver download page:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=4063&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=4125...
You might want to download these driver files to a thumb drive or burn them to a disk so you can use them right after Win7 is done installing in case there is no internet acess without the drivers.

  • [HP Photosmart D110a] Printer won't connect to network

    Printer: HP Photosmart D110a
    Operating system: Mac OSX 10.6.8
I'm living in a dorm room and trying to wirelessly connect my printer to my computer. I can't connect my printer to my university's network because it's protected. Instead I've been connecting to my printer's SSID network. I go into Settings --> Wireless --> Wireless Settings --> Wireless Setup Wizard --> the printer scans for routers, and then the SSID name comes up in a list underneath my university's closed network. It's called HPD110a.7809C6.
I connect to it, it says it's connected, but then the Wireless light keeps flashing blue. I go back to the Wireless tab and it shows that it's connecting, connecting, connecting... and then there's no connection.
My printer was working a little while ago. It's been tempermental and has occasionally worked. But since the last time my roommate used it and turned it off, it's refused to connect to that SSID network and has thus refused to work. I think I solved the connectivity issue I had before by connecting it to the SSID network, but now it won't connect.
Things I've tried to combat this issue:
Restarted the printer, both by turning it off and turning it on manually, as well as pulling the plug out of the back while it was on (I've read in my search for an answer for this problem that doing that can help some issues?) and unplugging it while it was off and then restarting it
Continuously tried to reconnect to the SSID network
Tried to enter the printer's IP in my internet browser's address bar; nothing came up, since it isn't connected
Turned off the wireless in the Wireless Settings menu, then turned it back on a half hour later, then waited to see if it'd reconnect
    Reset printer drivers
Updated my ePrint software and installed all availible HP product updates
I've printed out the Network Test multiple times, and each time it's said everything passes, but that I've had numerous disconnects and that the connection is low
I even moved a music player that was near my printer, thinking that maybe the metal was messing up the connection somehow (last resort)
Changed the empty ink cartridge (last resort)
I haven't tried restarting my computer, but I don't think that's what the problem is. My roommate's computer can't connect to the printer either (she's running OSX 10.8).
I have the printer in my Printer list twice in two seperate ways: One version is connected through the IP address, and the other is an option that appeared once while I was connected to the SSID network and just became a new printer. That one includes the scan option, but the first one doesn't. When I try to print something, the first printer says "Network host [IP ADDRESS] is busy.. will retry in 5/10/20/etc seconds..." and the second printer says "Printer offline."
The same thing happens with both whether I've gone into my Airport settings in the upper right and connected to the printer as a Device or not. It still shows my printer as a Device that I connect to, even though the printer itself says it's offline.
    Additional informatiom:
I don't have a USB cable for my printer, so I haven't tried that yet.
At one point during all the re-setting and restarting, I saw the printer's IP address appear in the Wireless menu as the connected network, but it still wouldn't print at that time.
That's all the information I can think of in relation to this issue; if anyone needs to know anything else, let me know. Hopefully it's enough, and hopefully someone will have the answer to my problem.
Sorry if anything is confusing or frantic; I've been dealing with this for a few days now, and I've searched all the help forums I could and looked through as many HP documents as possible, but nothing has changed the situation. This is basically my last hope.

After just switching from Cable to FIOS, I had to get my HP C4580 wireless printer back online too.
What was important was that the Printer settings knew about the IP and port changes that are impacted from the new network and router from Verizon.   How to do this is in your HP printer network setup manual and handled by their driver when its installed on the PC.
If all fails, try hooking up to your printer via an USB cable and start from there.  Make sure everything works wired before trying again from a wireless setup.  Youll end up with two printers in your Windows Printer choices, one for USB and one for Wireless, but thats no big deal.
    Tmas
