Photosmart D7460 failure to recognize a "genuine" HP reolacement ink cartridge

I have a Photosmart D7460 and have installed "genuine" HP replacement ink cartridges purchased from Office Depot or Staples continually.  All colors - EXCEPT YELLOW - have been 'recognized' by the printer as "genuine".  I get the non-HP ink cartridge message every time I turn on the printer.   This continues to happen - even after I've replaced that and the other colors a dozen times since that message first appeared.
Does someone know how to inform the printer that it is a genuine HP product and stop the message from appearing?

Hi , I read your post and see that you are getting the error message "not a genuine HP cartridge". I will certainly do my best to help you. Please try the steps in this document to see if it will help resolve this issue. Disregard the title. A 'Cartridge Missing,' 'Cartridge Problem,' or 'Incompatible Ink Cartridges' Error Message Displays ... If the issue continues, please Contact HP Support for further assistance. Fill in the model number and the form to receive a case number for quicker assistance. If you appreciate my efforts, please click the 'Thumbs up' button below. Thank You.

  • HP Photosmart 7510 - Can no longer find option for checking ink cartridge levels

I have been using my HP Photosmart 7510 for about 3 years on my Windows 7 computer. In the past when I clicked on the printer icon it would bring up a window which allowed me to select what I wanted to do with the printer.  Scan, check properties, shop for supplies, and check ink cartridge levels, etc.  I still get a window but have lost some of the options. Unfortunately I do not remember what all my choices were previously, but the attached image shows the choices I am getting now.
There were at least two other choices that included things like scanning, checking ink levels, shopping.  I have no idea what happened to make me lose these options.
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
Please try start the printer BEFORE the computer. The menu has small change now, ink levels are always on, at the top. You may want to update its software (Oct 2012) using the following package:
        http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL39677/mp-108855-3/PS7510_1315.exe

  • Failure to print alignment page after changing ink cartridge

I just replaced the tricolor ink cartridge in my ENVY 5530 printer and after installing the new cartridge the unit is stuck in a loop of "Now printing alignment page..."  however there is no noise indicating that the page is being fed.  Attempts to cancel the action also result in a prolonged  "Cancelling ..." but with no action. Based on other comments in this forum I have:unplugged the unit.removed all ink cartridgesRestarted the unit - where in I receive a message that I should use the power off button to prevent damage to the unit.reinstalled the cartridgesAttempted to print the alignment pageHowever the cycle simply repeats itself.Any assistance would be appreciated - the unit was functioning perfectly fine before it simply ran low on ink and used the ink cartridge sent by HP Ink service as the replacement unit. Many thanks in advance.

Hi SolomonI, Welcome to the HP Forums.  I see that you are having an issue after you have installed new ink. I see that you have done numerous steps in the attempt to resolve this issue. You stated that you unplugged the unit from the power source.  Please make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector. One thing to try is to by pass the alignment page and see if the unit will print from a copy or print from the computer. Let me know how you make out.  I will be happy to research other options if needed.  Cheers,

  • HP Photosmart 6510 Ink Cartridge Problem

My HP Photosmart 6510 does not recognize the BRAND NEW HP ink cartridges that I put in it. I have tried cleaning the cartridges and still nothing happens. "It just says ink cartridge problem. One or more cartridges appears to be missing or damaged. Install or replace the affected cartridges." and it shows all 4 of them. This is not the first problem I have had with this printer.

@nolacarvill - I understand that you are getting an ink cartridge error on your device. I would look at this document here that addresses ink cartridge rejection errors for your printer. It will provide you with troubleshooting steps to try in an attempt to remove that error message. I know that you have mentioned that you have already cleaned the contacts on the cartridges  but I would repeat that process and also clean the ones inside the printhead to ensure that all build up has been removed from the device. Buildup on the contacts can cause false error messages.  I hope that this helps.

  • HP Officejet Pro X476dw ink cartridge failure

I have a new HP Officejet Pro X476dw . It gives me Ink Failure for the four cartridges when I shut it down and turn it on the next day it starts to print but after a while it gives the same message . and so on I check the cartridge when it is working , it is already full of ink .
it is the ink which come with the printer in the shop they told me it shoud print at least 2000 pages using those inks .

@ SMOKEY DOG  -  I will need a little more information in order to help out. Do you have the same printer as the one listed in the title? Are you using genuine non refilled ink cartridges is the device?  Do you have the printer plugged directly into a wall outlet to ensure that it is getting the proper amount of power? If the printer is not getting enough power, that can cause the printer to produce erroneous error messages.

  • Mac cannot ping Photosmart D7460

I have a Photosmart D7460 set up on my home wireless network. It is directly connected to my Mac and I can print to it fine. I have it also configured on the wireless network with a static IP address. I have another laptop running Windows 7 that is connected and printing to it wirelessly.
I have another Mac laptop that I cannot get set up with the printer. This laptop is on the same network, connected to the same router, subnet, etc. I cannot ping the printer's IP address from this laptop. But I can ping other IP addresses on the network. Why can't this laptop "see" the printer?

    Hello Djurden,
Thanks for the post.  With this one, I might suggest re-setting the print system on the MAC that will not recognize the printer and run the ASU again to get the driver information.  Caution, this will remove all printers so if you have another printer on this system, be prepared to install that one also.  Good Luck!

  • Color management settings for HP Photosmart d7460 printer?

    Hi,
    HP Photosmart d7460
    Windows 7 Pro 64 bit
I have the above printer, and I have recently used Datacolor devices to manually calibrate both my monitor and printer. I notice that when, for example, I use Adobe Photoshop Elements or Corel Photopaint X4 to print photos, that I am advised to select software to handle color management. I also receive a message informing me that i should switch off printer color management in printing preferences (i.e. the printer driver software). Unfortunately the only options available in the printer driver 'color management' drop down menu appear to be either Colorsmart/sRGB or AdobeRGB. I understand that there should be another option, either 'no color management' or 'application controlled' but it is not present. There is also no option, in this menu, for the ICC profile that I have created for the printer, although the profile is present in the Adobe Photoshop Elements application, and in Corel.
How do I switch off color management by the printer and allow the application to solely control color management? I understand that having both the application and printer control color management can lead to poor colours.
    Regards, Chris

does anyone have any suggestions, any help appreciated.
    regards

  • Photosmart D7460 printing problem

I have a Photosmart D7460 that will not print onto green inkjet mini labels 38.1 x 21.2. It rejects the label sheet then feeds an A4 white sheet and prints onto that. I have tried all the various combinations including ticking the laser mini label box in gold but it still does the same. Has any one come across the same problem as I would be grateful for a solution.

Problem was due to a bad black ink cartridge.

  • How can I get my HP DeskJet 6540 to recognize the new ink cartridges I installed?

Hi everyone. I have an HP DeskJet 6540 printer and I replaced the ink cartridges. After I replaced the cartridges, I aligned them and then did a test print. I noticed that the blank ink didn't print. I opened system preferences, and then I opened the printer utility. It says, "Device Status : Pen Failure." Current Supplies Levels says, "The current levels for the selected printer are shown below...Cartridge on the left (tri-color 97) is unknown and the the cartridge on the right (black 96) is missing." Oh, I forgot to mention that the print cartridge light on the left side is flashing. I went to the HP support website and it says that the problem could be an incorrect print cartridge, incompatible print cartridge, or problem with the (left/right) print cartridge.  The solution they offered was to remove, inspect and reseat the problem cartidge. It also said to clean the problem cartridge contacts. I did that and it still gives me the same results. I even reset the printer but still got the same results...
So the next thing I try is the OTHER cartridges listed as compatible with my printer which is 94 (black) and 95 (tri-color). I bought the new cartridges, placed them in the printer and I still got the same message from the print utility. I took the latter cartridges back and got a refund and explained that none of the compatible cartridges are working with my printer. I kept the 96 and 97 cartridges in the printer and the light on the left continues to flash so now I'm here asking if anyone knows how I can get my printer to recognize the new ink cartridges I installed?  Are there any other solutions that I have besides throwing the printer out of the window? :-)
    Thanks everyone ;-)

With all that you have done it does sound like the printer has a fault. If you haven't tried turning off the printer for several minutes, then this would be worth trying (maybe you have done this when you say reset the printer?).
If the cartridge light on the printer flashes when you turn the printer back on then it sounds like a hardware fault - not the driver or the operating system. And this is not usually something a user can resolve so it would need repair. And for the cost of a new printer, why would you bother.
If you plan of sticking with HP and getting another model that can use the 96 & 97 cartridges (let's face it, they often cost more than the new printer), then take the two existing cartridges to the store and see if they will let you check they are okay. No point throwing them out also if they still have a fair bit of ink still in them.

  • HP Desk Jet 1010 Printer will not recognize 61 HP Ink Cartridges

    Error Message reads:
    Ink Cartridge Problem
At least one of the cartrideges has a problem. Click help for more information. (There is no help button.)
If ink cartridges have been installed, check that the plastic tape covering the ink nozzeles has been removed. (They're brand new cartridges and yes the tape was removed.)
To order a genuine HP replacement cartridge online, click buy now. (I don't want to buy a new cartridge. I just did.)
This was a combo-pack with black and tri-color from Walmart. It's exactly the same one that was purchased before and it worked fine.
Is one of them just a defective cartridge? Is there a way to check this? If they're not defective how do I make my computer recognize that I have cartridges installed?

The troubleshooting steps in the document here may help resolve the cartridge error with your Deskjet 1010 printer.  See the section under "power light is blinking rapidly".  It is possible that reinstalling the cartridge or cleaning the cartridge contacts will resolve the issue.  If the steps there do not resolve the issue is is possible you have a defective cartridge.  If you still have the old cartridge you replaced I would suggest installing it in the printer just to verify the issue is with the cartridge and not the printer.  HP cartridges have a two year warranty  as described in the document here.  The cartridge is separate from the printer warranty.  You could call HP for a replacement (1-800-HPINVENt if you are in the US or Canada, elsewhere see the document here) or return the cartridges to Walmart for a replacement.

  • Black Ink Cartridge not working HP Photosmart 5510 series

I replaced my black ink cartridge in my HP Photosmart 5510 series printer and it doesn't print.  I don't know how long I had the cartridge, so I went and bought a brand new cartridge and it still won't print.  I did everything the help menu said and it still doesn't print.  I cleaned print head and copper on both the cartridge and print head, I did an automatic cartridge clean and nothing is working.  The printer recognizes that the cartridge is full---there are no error messages---but it won't print.  I also replaced the  three color cartridges and they print fine, but the black doesn't.  Any help would be appreciated.  My printer is fairly new, I haven't done a lot of printing with it and it was printing untill the black ran out and I had to replace the cartridge.

  • Photosmart C309a black ink cartridge will not print

    Hi.
I am having problems with my Photosmart Premium C309a printer. It will not print using the black ink cartridge. I pulled this printer out of storage and the original cartridges had run out. I replaced these with brand new cartridges. When printing a quality report, everything turns out fine except there is no text and no black square from the black ink cartridge (however the photo black cartridge DOES print). Printing a page of text just results in a blank page. However, images and coloured text print out fine.
I have tried a lot of troubleshooting steps listed on these forums and elsewhere. Soaking the pritnhead seems to be the most effective solution for others but this has not worked for me. However I cleaned the printhead very thoroughly and there is no trace of ink anywhere in it. So far I have discovered that it is a hardware issue rather than a software one as there is no black ink on pages I try to photocopy. I have tried the following troubleshooting steps:
Turning both the printer and PC off and on again
Resetting the printer to factory defaults
    Reinstalling the ink cartridges
Automatically cleaning the printhead (several times)
Aligning the printhead (fails - probably due to the absence of black ink)
Soaking the printhead in hot water (twice)
Rinsing the printhead under running hot water
Manually scrubbing the printhead with cotton buds
Making sure the cartridges are vented properly
I'm at a loss as to what to do next. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am having the same problem. I 've soaked the heads, I've put genuine ink in. I've tried everything but cannot get it to print in the Black XL.  Prints all other colors and the photo black, but no in text black. So irritated right now !!!
    HELP ! ! !
I've even did a hard factory reset.

  • New ink cartridges in Photosmart C5180 but still not printing clearly. How do I clean the heads?

I changed all 5 ink cartridges on my HP C5180 Photosmart All-in-One printer, but the print is still as if I'm out of black ink.  How do I clean the heads and realign them?

    steelpony5555 wrote:
When your printer stops printing one or 2 of the colors it means your print head is clogged. Tech support will have you remove the print head and clean the copper contacts on the bottom, but that is not enough. Hold the head in a rag and shake it, lots of ink will come out of the inside. I saw one case where the guy held his print head under hot water till it ran clear. Not sure of the long term effects on the head if you do that. Mine has clogged twice now and it has been ink inside the head.
I would absolutely suggest not shaking the printhead.  Ink is required in the printhead, and if air gets into the printhead it can cause printhead failure.  See this page for an ongoing discussion.
For the C5180 this is moot, since the printhead cannot be removed to shake it in the C5180 with its permanant printhead.  I would suggest three levels of printhead cleaning as described in Step 3 of this page for the c5180.

  • Photosmart 5510 not recognizing new black ink cartridge

My Photosmart 5510 does not recognize when I've installed a new black ink cartridge.  The front panel indicates that the black ink is now full but when I print a test sheet or anything else, the black ink does not come out.  I've tried (and potentially wasted) three different ink cartridges.
Any suggestions or is it just time for another (disposable) printer?

Maybe time to call HP and talk to them now.
