PhotoSmart printer 7520 has life of it's own

My PhotoSmart printer 7520 makes noises and sounds like it is completing some printing or action command very frequently at night when we aren't using it.  What is it doing and why?  It makes the exact sounds as when we are printing.  It is wireless.
This is a new computer(install less than a month) and the smaller black ink cartridge is already empty. It ony gets casual usage by 2 people, and we don't print in color.  How can switch the printer to only use the large black cartridge?

Hi,
On your printer, press the wrench on the screen and choose preferences.  You can scroll down and choose a couple of things.  I've set ours to go into Energy Saving mode at 5 minutes and have the Printer Effects volume set to soft.  We don't hear any printer activity at night.
To print in Black only, click on start and choose Devices and Printers.  Right click on your printer and choose Printing Preferences.  Choose the "Color" tab, and select "Print in Grayscale", choose Apply, choose Ok.
This should force the printer to use the black only cartridge.  When printing in color again, you would need to go back into Printing Preferences to take the check out of grayscale.

  • What are the PROXY SETTINGS (port) for HP Photosmart printer 7520 ???

CANNOT   FIND  THE  CORRECT  PORT  ( proxy  setting )  for  my
    HP  7520  Photosmart  PRINTER???

    Hi torino71,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I see you would like to know which proxy settings to set for your HP Photosmart 7520. I was able to find a great thread from a fellow Community member windrunner123, see below:
In some network setup, proxy settings may need to be configured on the printer to enable connection to the Internet.
    1. Make sure the printer is on a network and must have an IP address assigned by a Network Router or a DHCP server. Alternatively, you may also configure the printer to use a static IP address.  Check and retrieve the IP address of the printer from the Home Screen menu selection: Network -> View Network Summary -> View Wired (or View Wireless)  or Setup -> Network > View Network Summary (depending on printer model)
    2. In a web browser on your computer, type the IP address or hostname that has been assigned to your printer.
    3. Go to the Network Tab > Proxy Settings and enter the proxy settings into the fields and click Apply button.  You may have to check with your ISP or IT Administrator for the correct Proxy Setting.
As well as the port settings below you will want your router company to make sure that multicasting is enabled, bonjour protocol needs to be enabled, make sure that mac filtering is disabled, and have them check if there are any firmware updates for the router, and check firewalls on the router to make sure not blocking the communication
The following ports are also used by your HP device and might need to be opened on your firewall configuration
Incoming ports (UDP) are destination ports on the computer while outgoing ports (TCP) are destination ports on the HP device:
    Incoming (UDP) ports
    137, 138, 161, 427
    Outgoing (TCP) ports
    137, 139, 427, 9100, 9220, 9500
The ports are used for the following functions:
    Printing
    UDP ports 427, 137 161
    TCP port 9100
    Photo card upload
    UDP ports 137 138 427
    TCP 139
    Scanning
    UDP port 427
    TCP 9220, 9500
    Faxing
    UDP port 427
    TCP port 9220
    HP Device Installation
    UDP port 427
    Web Services
    80, 443, 5222 and 5223
I hope this helps! If you have any more questions please let me know.

  • HP Photosmart Printer 6520 has a white screen and won't go away?

My HP photosmart printer had been working fine until I turned it on today and it showed a blue screen with a power off/on symbol and quickly flashed to a blank white screen and hansn't changed since.  I've unplugged it and plugged it in several times and it still does the same thing. • HP Photosmart Printer hangs - Snow Leopard

I have an iMac and 2 MacBook Pros, all running Snow Leopard.  Using a Cisco Linksys WRT610 Router.  I have an HP Photosmart All-in-One printer that has been working flawlessly over WLAN for almost two years.   Over the last month or two I have started having print problems.  Print jobs hang in the middle of printing.  I have tried deleting the printer and adding it back in System Preferences.  I have re-installed the HP Printer Software Update via Apple Software Update.  It is occuring on all three machines.  When I run diagnostics on the printer, it checks out.  The network diagnostics on the printer report no issues.  I have tried shutting down the printer.
Anyone else experiencing a similar problem?  Or have any suggestions?  Thank you.

Specifically, HP Scan Pro and Device Manager that came with your All-in-One are not supported in Snow Leopard. Also not supported at the moment is button support, but that will be very shortly (I expect less then a week, but it could be a little bit more).
That being said, you should be able to Scan from the Printer browser (the thing that shows up in the dock), the Print & Fax System Preference, Preview, and Image Capture. Support for all of these applications (and several third party ones) are include with Snow Leopard.
As for importing images into iPhoto, you'll notice from my FAQ entry that if you are trying to import from a card slot on a network device, iPhoto/Image Capture/etc. under Snow Leopard do not support this. The work around is to mount the memory card on your desktop and use the "Import to Library..." option under the file menu. Other apps should have a similar option.
    Just trying to help.

    Hi toymom81,
Thank you for being an active and supportive member of the HP Support community.  I understand that you recently received an error message when trying to download more printables to your Photosmart C310a printer.
I tested this on my Photosmart C310a printer and was able to successfully download an app without any issues from the front panel of the printer.  The steps I took are:
    1)       Tap on the 'Get More' icon on the front panel of  the printer while you are in the apps section.
    2)      Choose any of the apps listed as they are the ones compatible to your printer.  You should get a message to wait while the app is downloading.
If you get that message again, please contact HP's Cloud Services for a real time server update.  HP's Cloud Services can be reached at 1-855-785-2777 if you live in the USA/Canada region.  If you live outside of the USA/Canada region please click here to find the Technical Support number for your country/region.

  • I cannot print any kind of document using the File Print command on the tool bar of any application, but I can print using the printer icon. OS X 6.8 with HP Photosmart printer. Any thoughts?

When trying to print any kind of document on my wife's Mac Pro, the File>Print Command will not work. She just downloaded an update to Microsoft Office and the problem began after that, but it also applies to other non-Microsoft Applications. However, the print function does work when you use the printer icon in any of the applications.  She has OS X 6.8 and an HP Photosmart printer. Thank you for any thoughts.

Did your wife also apply the Feb. 2 Security Update 2012-01 v. 1.0 from Apple? That update contains a bug which disables printing and some other functions in applications that were originally written for the PowerPC processor and which require Rosetta to run on Intel Macs. Fortunately, yesterday Apple released v. 1.1 of the update, which resolves the problem. Run Software Update again to install the revised update.

  • HP Photosmart Printer-cannot get the apps to work with a USB hook up

I purchased a HP Photosmart Printer C310 and hooked it up to a USB, not wireless. The apps on the printer will not work, says it has to be on wireless for those features to work. When I purchased it the guy said I could use those apps even if it was on a USB hook up? Any ideas of how to get the apps to work without the wireless?

Make sure you have done this to reset the iPod
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1320
and that you have restarted your computer since this problem occurred.  You should also try disconnecting all USB devices from your computer including hubs (except standard keyboard and mouse if normally used), and connecting the iPod by itself to a direct USB port.
There are no iPod viruses. But data corruption on the iPod's storage is possible.
If doing the above does not help, you may want to do a Restore on the iPod, from the iPod's Summary tab in iTunes.  This will erase the iPod, re-install its software, and set it to default settings.  If data corruption or a software glitch is causing the problem, a Restore should fix it.

  • HP photosmart printer stopped working after 10.4.9 update - Genericclass

We have an old hp photosmart 1218 that has been printing from our iMac for the last 6 months. I wanted to update the drivers (first mistake) due to some color problems which I did right around the same time that the software updated to 10.4.9. Now it won't print and we get GenericClass: waiting for device. We have spent 3 days trying everything that we could find on the boards. It seems many folks have problems with HP drivers particularly during an OS update. Of course Apple won't support us since the printer is old, and HP says that it isn't supported. But it worked on 10.4.8!
Here are the references to everything we've tried:
    1. Printer is setup via the Options/More Printers button so it does have a URI
    2. Tried killing the HP Communications process - interesting effect - the system would pick a random page, say it was completed and finish the job. http://software-robotics.com/graphic-design-prepress/viewtopic.php?t=727
    No printout, however.
    3. Tried opening the printer setup utility with Rosetta per spybrook's advice at: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=327725&start=15&tstart=0 Still get the genericclass error.
    4. Tried moving the printer to a PC and print through the network but that is another headache altogether so nevermind that!
    5. Deleted everything that said HP or photosmart and uninstalled numerous times.
We are at wits end and since I did this on my husband's work computer, I am way in the dog house! Any further advice would be appreciated. Oh, and several glasses of wine have also be tried to no avail, though we didn't care nearly as much afterward!

    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

For the benefit of all those old HP printer users, I will list what I did that seemed to fix my problem. I wish it were more scientific to tell you exactly, but after 40 hours or so of messing with this, I was getting sloppy and losing hope. We actually went out looking at new printers today....
But, tonight, from a fresh reboot, I left the HP drivers on the Mac (accidentally). I downloaded both SP Ghostscript 7.07.1 and the hpijs-foomatic package found at http://www.linux-foundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/MacOSX/hpijs When I went to set up the printer, my Photosmart was in the list on the setup utility for the first time. I had great hope.... but then received the genericclass hang when printing again. sigh. I logged in and out, but still the same hang.
But, I noticed that the HP drivers were still installed and thought that maybe there was a conflict between the two so I tried the HP unstaller but it hung. So I reinstalled the HP drivers, then noticed there was an update so I downloaded it and walked through the setup with the photosmart again. My 1218 printer was now on the More Printers list (without having to hold down Options Advanced sequence) so I selected it, tried a print run, and voila! It worked.
I'm not sure which combination worked whether the update from HP, the generic linux drivers, or both, but I don't dare touch it now.
    Thanks, Greg, for your suggestions!

  • Photosmart printer will not connect to network, unable to set IP Address Manually

My Photosmart printer has worked fine for a long time but it now refuses to connect to the network.  It is wired into the router and I have changed the lead and this shows no chnage.  The Printer network set-up shows an IP address of 0.0.0.0 in manual mode and if I reset this and press OK it immediately reverts to 0.0.0.0.  I've also tried putting the printer into Automatic IP address but it still fails.  Subnet Mask and Default Gateway also show as 0.0.0.0.  I can reset the Subnet Mask and Gateway to the correct levels but as soon as I go back to set the IP address they revert to 0.0.0.0.  The printer will work from a USB connection but it will then not share correctly.   Is it possible to reboot the onboard program?

    Oh, an ISP-supplied router.  Uggh.
OK, remove the phone (DSL) cord from the back of the router.  Cycle power on the router, then attach the printer with the phone cord disconnected.
Now, Let's set a static IP address for the printer:
    - Print a Network Config Page from the front of the printer. Note the printer's IP address.
    - Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
    - Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.
    - On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). You can find the DHCP range of the router using its internal settings page or in its manual. Use the CD that came with your router or type the router's IP address (ends in .1) into a browser.
    - Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)
    - Enter your router's IP (on the Network Config Page) for the gateway and first DNS. Leave the second one blank.
    - Click 'Apply'.
Now, shut down the router and printer, start the router, wait, then start the printer.
After this you may need to redo 'Add a Printer' using the new IP address.

Can I send emails to my HP photosmart printer? I have tried and I get the noreplt messages as if it has gone to the printer both I get nothing from the printer.

Hi, if you have created an ePrintCenter account and added your printer to that account you can check its ePrint job history. At least that will give you more visibility to the status of any jobs you send to your printer via the ePrint service. Receiving the "no reply" confirmation message only indicates that the email you sent was received by the ePrint service and is being prepared for printing.

  • Free efax on 7520e photosmart printer

cannot get my 7520e photosmart printer to connect wireless, purchased it last year but was told they were working on a fix, after the fix it would not work at all, again phoned and was told the download fix made things worse and they were working on a patch to download.
Have not been back to my other home in almost a year so no idea if it is working or not, it would print ok but only via a USB cable.
Have the apps and free Efax been taken away from that aswell as I have a 7510e photosmart printer here but cannot send faxes even though my eFax number and address shows on the front of my printer
and in eprint settings. This one is connected wireless shared between a windows 7 64 bit desktop and a windows 8.1 64 bit desktop, both desktops are wired but to a wireless router.

    Hi emma22,
I would like to assist in any way I can in an attempt to get the 7520 connected to your Wireless. Did I read correctly and you are not with that printer at this time?
Regarding the eFax and apps for the 7520, they are still active. However, the eFax is not free on the 7520, compatible with eFax and you will need to subscribe with eFax.
If you are not with the printer, will  you be soon? Let me know the connection error, router brand, etc and I will see if I can help.

  • My 5510 photosmart printer will not print black any longer, I have tried everything !

I have the hp photosmart printer 5510. It has stopped printing black. I did numerous cleanings, turned if off and on using the formula stated in the help section...nothing is working and I cannot keep wasting my color ink printing test pages over and over. This is frustrating obviously there is an issue with these printers! Can i get this fixed or am i going to have to box it up and ship it back to hp???

Sorry to hear you are having problems with the printer. Have you tried another Black cartridge to rule out if the replacement cartridge was a problem? I would pull out that cartridge and check to warranty ends date that is printed on the cartridge's label. Also reseating all the cartridges might help. Pull them all out and insert them back in to reseat them. If you have done these steps too you might want to call in to customer support so they can look at this hardware issue. If you are in warranty they can look at various options to help you out. I am including a link to a document that is used for this issue just so you can look over it and check off everything you have done.
