Photosmart - Printing alignment page problem

Setting up my printer and it is trying to print the alignment page but every time it prints a blank page. I am pretty sure it's a hardware problem (cartridges are brand new) but cannot nail down the exact reason why.
Thanks in advance.

What printer model? What operating system? Make sure the clear protective tape has been removed from the cartridges.

  • Hp deskjet keeps printing alignment page

    Hi:
Since i changed operating systems from WindowsXP32bit to Windows7 64bit, my printer keeps printing alignment pages. It will do it when i power on the printer, and it will do it after each printout. So far ive looked at HP's deskjet page. The HP Toolbox software isnt supported by Windows7, meaning that the handy print alignment and cartridge ink level software cant be used. I went to Hp's print alignment page ,they give you steps on what buttons to press on the printer to print an alignment page, to clean the printheads, print a print quality diagnostic page [which didnt work] ,and also to calibrate linefeed. I also cleaned the ink cartridges and removed any dry ink on them.
None of that seemed to help. Does anyone know a solution to this? [this printer does not have a scanner by the way].
I like this printer, and since theres no "windows7 compatible" HP inkjet printers available at this time, id like to keep this one.
    Thanking you

The driver for the Deskjet 5150 is delivered though Windows Update as described here.  The Deskjet 5550  driver would also be compatible, I would recommend the HP version rather than the earlier Microsoft version.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8000 -- keeps printing alignment page

I was having troubles with the black ink not printing correctly so after doing many cleanings I decieded to manually clean the print head. I took the printhead out of the printer then wipped the part where the ink comes out with a most paper towle. After I put the printhead back in the printer printed a print alignment page. OK. Now when ever I print anything the printer will after the print job is done print another alignment page. Is there a way to make it stop? Thanks for you help.

@MacNeilBlue- I am sorry that you are having an issue with the alignment page printing repeatedly.  I would remove, and reseat the cartridges. Then I would repeat the alignment process as shown below.
    Open the HP product software:
Windows XP: Click Start ( ), click All Programs , click HP , click the folder for your HP product, and then click the icon for your HP product ( ).
Windows Vista or Windows 7: Click the Windows icon ( ), click All Programs , click HP , click the folder for your HP product, and then click the icon for your HP product ( ).
    Windows 8:
Right-click or tap and hold the lower left corner of the screen, and then click or tap Search from the menu.
Click or tap Apps ( ) if it is not already selected.
Type HP in the search box.
Click or tap your printer ( ).
NOTE:You can also open the HP product software from your computer desktop: double-click the icon for your HP product ( ).
The product software opens in a new window.
In the product software, double-click Printer Actions ( ).
Double-click Maintenance Tasks ( ). The HP Toolbox opens.
    Click the Device Services tab.
Click Align Ink Cartridges , and then follow the on-screen instructions to print the alignment page.
    Lift the scanner lid.
Place the alignment page with the printed-side down on the right front corner of the scanner glass. See the engraved guide next to the scanner glass for help loading the alignment page.
Figure 6: Place the alignment page on the scanner glass
    Close the scanner lid.
Press the button next to OK on the control panel display ( ) The product scans the alignment page.
When the Alignment successful message displays on the control panel screen, press the button next to OK on the control panel display ( ) to complete the alignment.

    Hello @menybiton ,
    Welcome to the HP forums.
I understand your printer is stuck on printing alignment page.
I would like to help you.
I would remove the ink cartridges.
    Then preform another hard reset.
When the printer asks for the missing ink cartridges, reinstall them.

  • Failure to print alignment page after changing ink cartridge

I just replaced the tricolor ink cartridge in my ENVY 5530 printer and after installing the new cartridge the unit is stuck in a loop of "Now printing alignment page..."  however there is no noise indicating that the page is being fed.  Attempts to cancel the action also result in a prolonged  "Cancelling ..." but with no action. Based on other comments in this forum I have:unplugged the unit.removed all ink cartridgesRestarted the unit - where in I receive a message that I should use the power off button to prevent damage to the unit.reinstalled the cartridgesAttempted to print the alignment pageHowever the cycle simply repeats itself.Any assistance would be appreciated - the unit was functioning perfectly fine before it simply ran low on ink and used the ink cartridge sent by HP Ink service as the replacement unit. Many thanks in advance.

Hi SolomonI, Welcome to the HP Forums.  I see that you are having an issue after you have installed new ink. I see that you have done numerous steps in the attempt to resolve this issue. You stated that you unplugged the unit from the power source.  Please make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector. One thing to try is to by pass the alignment page and see if the unit will print from a copy or print from the computer. Let me know how you make out.  I will be happy to research other options if needed.  Cheers,

  • Photosmart D7560 prints alignment page too often.

The D7560 is installed on my iMac. I bought the printer 2 years ago and it's been very frustrating. It runs out of black ink after a dozen pages or less. And it keeps wanting to do an alignment. That could be how my cartridge is getting wasted. Does anyone know how I can get it to perform a self cleaning without an alignment?
HP sent me a new Printhead and a set of cartridges and it worked for a short time. Now it's out of warranty and I really never got much use out of it. One thing I've learned is that I can print a boarding pass at the airport instead of home.
Would appreciate any help.  Thank you.

The C3150 has a sensor and it is not necessary to scan the alignment page for this model.  Make sure you are using fresh white paper for the alignment  Page 16 of the manual says:
Note If you have colored paper loaded in the input tray when you align the print cartridges, the alignment will fail. Load unused plain white paperinto the input tray, and then try the alignment again. If the alignment fails again, you might have a defective sensor or print cartridge. Contact HP Support. Go to www.hp.com/support. If prompted, choose your country/region, and then click Contact HP for information on calling for technical support.
Before calling HP support I would try cleaning the sensor with a damp Q-tip.  The sensor is a small black plastic item mounted on the lower right side of the carriage, toward the back and just to the right of the right cartridge.  The part to clean would be the area underneath the sensor.

  • C4599 Install problem Cannot print alignment page, carriage jam message, says to remove cardboard

Just set up the printer but it will not print the alignment page because of a "carriage jam".  It says to remove the cardboard but there is no cardboard in the printer.  What should I do?

ok, when I thought the problem was resolved, it was temporary. The problem is back. I have searched the forums multiple times and can find no other problems or discussions similar to mine. I even went so far as to reload my machine from scratch. I have the exact same problem. I can reproduce it by creating a new blank project and adding a single empty report definition to the project. If I then try to go into the Page Setup dialog, i get the following error
    Crystal Reports ActiveX Designer
    Out of memory.
    OK
The dialog then appears but is empty. If I go to the preview of the report and select the Print Report button, VS2008 gets the following error
    Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
    Runtime Error!
    Program: ...(x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE\devenv.exe
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.
    OK
I get the same out of memory error in the standalone designer. I have DEP turned off at the BIOS level as well as via the following bcdedit.exe /set nx AlwaysOff
I then went to my home machine which has VS2008 and Vista64 and installed Crystal12 and SP1 and had the exact same issue. Also when I run my app in debug mode from VS I cannot assign a printer to the report. It gives an exc eption that says that is an invalid printer. If I exit VS and run the same exe, I can assign a printer and run the report.
While I am developing with Vista64, I am targetting x86 machines, not 64bit machines. Am I really the only one with this problem on 2 boxes I tried it on? Is there any help?
I am creating a standard VB forms app nothing web related.
    Thank you

  • HP 5520 all-in-one will not print alignment page

Printer printed page as if there was no black ink. Replaced cartridge and tried to align but would not print a proper alignment page. Replaced all cartridges.Page it prints is not recognized in scan. I have tried everything. UnPlugging, reload paper, new driver, new install, I need to print tax info and the **bleep** thing will not align, will not copy, will not print. Help

The post here has links to a troubleshooting document for the Photosmart 5520.  If the steps there do not resolve the issue please call HP Support, even if the printer is not longer under warranty.  In the US or Canada call 1-800-HPINVENt, elsewhere see the document here for contact information.

  • HP DeskJet 3510 Printer Alignment Page Doesn't print correctly.

Hi I have a strange problem with my HP DeskJet 3510. I took it out of the box installed everything loaded up paper and powered it on. It went through all the motions and blah blah and printed out an alignment page. Anyhow it didn't look right to me but I went ahead and scanned it anyway and it then said "ink cartidges are set to default color quality" or something to the effect. I hit ok and it went to the main menu.
Now from my wifes phone I can connect to the printer and print just fine but from our laptop the alignment is all jacked up. If I type a bunch of random lines into notepad or anything really it misses a bunch of lines and some lines just don't even appear. Which I could only think would be because the alignment page isn't right.
Also from app that gets installed from the software CD on the laptop I can choose to align the cartridges but when I do and it prints and I scan the page (that still looks jacked up to me) the software tells me the alignment failed and asks me to rescan after I put the page in there right. I know the page is in there right its face down and in the bottom right hand corner as it should be.
Now I have ran the cartdridge cleaning process several times took the cartridges out and looked for debris or anything that could be in the way even though I doubt its any of those things becuase like I had said earlier it prings perfectly from my wifes printershare app from her smart phone. Just as it appears on her screen. Only getting this issue from the PC.
Anyhow I am going to attach a photo of how the priner aligment page comes out from me doing it on the printers control panel and from the PC's software both it comes out looking like this. If you could please give me some advice to what to do next that would be great as I am out of ideas. Did I just get a bad cartridge? If so why would it print from my wifes phone fine and not from the PC? Is this how the alignment page should look (can't read any of the things on the lower portion really).
Other Info : PC is running Windows . Other PC has same problem running Windows XP. Wifes Phone is using PrinterShare app. Any information or helpful advice is appreciated thank you guys in advance.

Finally, after installing and uninstalling the print cartridges on my HP-3510 around 10 times; I finally got the alignment page to print and then scan successfully. It's a nice, very economical printer when it works properly. I was on the verge of tossing it but glad I didn't. I guess the lesson is that persistence can pay off. My thanks to the other two contributing posters.

  • Hp officejet pro 8500 will not print alignment page

Hi, I saw that others on this thread where having similar problems and I was wondering if anyone could help.
I have been having trouble with my HP Office Jet Pro 8500 Wireless (A909g series) printer with the print heads. Initially, it stopped printing in blue so I followed all of the steps for cleaning the print head ect.  At one point I had removed the print head and reinserted it and at that point, I started to get the "alignmnet failed" message.  I just purchased a new M/B print head, and while it now prints in blue when a test page is printed, I still get an alignment failure notice when it tries to align the print head.  In addition, it does not print the full alignment page, only the top colored lines.  While I can print, it always runs an alignment afterwards, again failing.  I would apprecaite any help you could provide.  This printer has been great until now, and I do not want to waste anymore ink trying to print and it failing the alignment everytime.  I am running Windows 7 professional.  Thank you.

Hello , Welcome to the thread!  I understand that your HP Officejet Pro 8500 All-in-One A909a Printer is experiencing Printhead and Alignment failures. Because you have already replaced both the Cyan and Magenta Printhead (twice) and Black and Yellow Printhead in the past and the issues continue to occur over time I believe that the Printhead sensor or print system within the actual printer is going. Should this occur then print system issues, such as Alignment, Printhead, cartridge, quality, etc issues will occur and will usually become worse over time. Therefore, rather then replacing the Printheads it may be time to replace the actual printer. With that being said, there are a few troubleshooting steps that I would like you to complete to resolve this issue.   To start, please click here . Once the support document opens please review all of the listed Solutions and sub-steps to ensure that all steps have been completed. Should the issue persist, then a Firmware Update may be needed on your printer. However, I do need to know what Operating System you're using on your computer in order to provide you with the correct Firmware Update. The Firmware is the internal programming within your printer. It controls what your printer does and how your printer does it. If there is a corruption within the internal programming in your machine, your HP Officejet may not respond correctly.   Please respond to this post with the result of your Alignment Failed troubleshooting. Should the issue persist, be sure to include your Operating System in your response so I can provide you with the additional Firmware Update. I look forward to hearing from you!

  • Deskjet 1050 won't print alignment page

I am mad as hell at HP tech support.  After changing my black cartridge the printer would not print out the alignment page.  After much consult with "Dylan, from India" I was told to buy another cartridge and try that.  If that did not correct the problem, HP would ship me another printer.
LIE, LIE, LIE.  I just spoke with "Mark & Peter" from the Phillipines and they advised me that HP would not send me a printer.  Oh, they will send one "prorated" of course.  Yeah, right, I can go to Walmart and get one for $25.
I advised "Mark & Peter from the Phillipines" that I DID NOT APPRECIATE BEING LIED TO.  If this is the HP wants to treat their customers, then I am afraid they will be having a lot less customers.
HP needs to have the customer support and tech support in the US.
I told them, and I will state here...I am going to buy another printer....however, IT WILL NOT BE A HP PRODUCT.  If HP will lie to me once, they will do it twice.  And they will lie to you also.

    HI vbrown,
Does it attempt to print the alignment page, and then give you an alignment failed message?
If you are able to print are you getting any black ink printed on the paper?
If the black ink cartridge you just purchased printing then this is why you are having a issue aligning the printer. If the cartridge is an original HP cartridge and is still in the warranty date located on the cartridge and is found to be defective HP will replace the cartridge with a working one.

  • Printer won't print alignment page

I have a new HP Officejet 4500g and am setting it up on a Windows Vista (32 bit) system.  The print is brand new and after I set it up and installed the ink cartridges it asked me to hit 'OK'  to print an alignment page.  It pulled in a piece of paper, stopped, and displayed the message "Aligning cartridges. Please wait" and then did nothing--no print, no change in the message, nothing.  I've gone through all the troubleshooting steps on HP's support site and get the same result every time.
I should add that when I first turned it on it made a sound like nylon gear teeth slipping over each other.  It did this a few times when I was performing the troubleshoot steps too.

Thank you for your patience to resolve the printer problem.  Being a brand new printer there was a good chance that it was a setup issue such as the rear door, front door, paper rollers, or ink cartridges not being in place.
After all the troubleshooting for the hardware setup, we can try the printer reset.  With the printer turned on, disconnect the power from the back of the printer, wait about 15 seconds, press and hold the # and the 3 buttons at the same time, reconnect the power cord to the back of the printer, and release the # and 3 buttons.  Click here to see details on how to perform a partial reset to the printer.
After checking the hardware setup of the printer and doing the resets to have the alignment page print but it still has not printed, there really is a problem.  I want to do what I can to help you and recommend the following for your convenience.
Click here if you would like to see and use the HP Product Warranty Check tool.

  • Won't print alignment page or any page after new ink cartridges installed.

I just installed a new color and a new black ink cartridge into my HP Envy 5531. I have never had an issue with this printer before, owned it for 2 years. After installing it, it tells me to print an alignment page, I press ok. The alignment page comes out only blank. So they cannot scan the alignment page. Now my printer prints like it's running low on ink, but it says that it's full with color and black ink.

    Hi @Aly9008,
I would be happy to help you work towards a solution. I understand you have installed new cartridges, the levels are good (full), but your print quality is poor. Please use the following document to troubleshoot the issue; Fixing Print Quality Problems for the HP ENVY 5530 e-All-in-One and Deskjet Ink Advantage 4510 e-All....
If the issue persists, I suggest calling us. Don't hesitate to call, although the printer may be out of warranty, the cartridges could be in warranty; therefore, there wouldn't likely be a fee for the phone support. We will, at our option, either replace products under warranty that prove to be defective or refund the purchase price.
We could even determine after troubleshooting that it is a problem with the printer, in which case they may offer you a discount on a newer model.
The number to call is 1-800-474-6836 for Canada and US, or you can Contact HP Worldwide.
To find the “Warranty Ends” date, look in the following table for the date's location on each product. The date follows the YYYY/MM/DD or YYYY/MM format, where YYYY indicates the year, MM indicates the month, and DD indicates the day.

  • OJ 8000 prints alignment page with every job

WinXP, New install.  OJ is printing this page every time, and driving me nuts!  Is there a key sequence on the panel or something to turn it off?

    Hi Everyone,
This tends to happen because the alignment that was done the previous round is cancelled or failed. In the event that it is cancelled, please kindly let it run once properly, that should solve the issue. In the event that the alignment failed, please try to run the printhead cleaning via the software and let it run the alignment once more at the end of it.
    Hope this helps.

  • Printing Even Pages Problem  SC900

I use an Epson SC900 printer - terrific.
When I attempt to print out say 3 pages of even numbers part way through a large document it insists on giving me the odd number inbetween. i.e. if I select 6-8 evens it will print out page 7 only.
If I print out the even numbers from the beginning of the document there isn't a problem. This means if two pieces of paper stick together or you only want to print half a dozen pages you have to print every sheet individually - zzzzzzzzzz!
Does anyone else have the same problem - better still does anyone have the solution?

I have made some progress on this problem! I converted the Pages document to a PDF. Again I tried to print it out using the old Reader version 5.0! Still no success. However, I then used Adobe Reader 7.0 ignored the "over the page" warnings and it printed out fine.
I was enabled to print out any page or series of pages without a document. Can anyone tell me why I can do it in one programme and not another?
My solutions are always so hit and miss - though prayer certainly plays a part in finding the answer.
