Photosmart process taking 1/4 memory and 1/2 CPU

I have noticed, using Activity monitor, that a process called photosmart (HP) owned by _lp starts up uninvited and ***** up 800MB to 1GB of my memory and uses 99% of one of the cores. I have no idea what it is doing and why it is running?
I do use a hp photosmart C4280 printer, but this starts when I am not printing.
Any idea how to stop this from happening, it really slows down my system.

I have that printer connected to my iMac and don't see the issue. All I can suggest is downloading the latest update from HP at http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?product=3192753&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&la ng=en&cc=us installing it, and finally reinstalling the 2.6 HP update http://support.apple.com/kb/dl907
Afterwards, repair permissions and restart.

  • Mdworker32 taking up 20% memory and 0% cpu

    Recently my macbook has become sluggish at times. I believe it is due to a program called mdworker32. Upon restarting the computer, the process goes away. But it seems to always eventually return. My macbook has 4GB of ram. mdworker32 will take up to as much as 700-900MB of ram (~20%). The odd part is that the CPU usage of mdworker32 seems to be always 0% according to Activity Monitor.
    I have seen other posts regarding mdworker32 and taking up CPU, but no threads about mdworker32 and memory.
    If anyone has any troubleshooting tips to help get my system back to normal, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Thanks for the info Camelot.
    I feel it's slowing down my system though...or something else is. Since I use my laptop for music production, I've always kept an eye on memory usage (I use Istats besides Activity Monitor), and often "pushing" the macbook as far as it can go. Before the last month, I never seemed to notice the process mdworker32. Since then it's seem to been constantly present.
    Here's a screenshot of current memory usage. The only program I had open when taking the ss is Chrome. Mdworker32 is part of active...no?

  • "Installer" Process taking 2 GB working-memory

      Hello, my Problem is the following:
    - My iMac gets so slow, that nothing works anymore - I can barely restart, that takes minimum 1 Minute
    - I found out, that a process named "Installer" is appearing regular out of nowhere and is taking almost 2GB working memory, then I have only about 10MB left, which is ofc too less (I got 4GB working memory in total)
    -When I kill the process, everything runs normal again, and my working memory is back.
    Has somebody an idea, where that process may come from, and how i can stop it?
    I don't want to kill the process every day again and again, because it appears about every 2 hours.
    I already went to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Users & Groups > Current User > Login Items  and took all hook out - It's still not fixed.
    I hope for help,
    Greetings CFB

  • A process named "update.exe *32" and description is "Firefox" keeps using a lot of memory and cpu; the longer forefox is on, the worse it gets. How to prevent?

    using Windows 7, firefox 15.0.1
    This process uses more and more memory and CPU, sometimes there are several of these processes running. If I kill these processes, it doesn't seem to affect the utilization of Firefox. Then the process slowly starts to use more and more memory and CPU all over again.
    This happens all the time, every time I use Firefox.

    I do not have a ComObjects folder under C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files. That is not part of Firefox.
    wscript.exe is a utility included with Windows to run scripts at the system level. It generally is not used by major programs. If update.exe is starting up with Windows, you may be able to find the script that wscript.exe is running using [http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx Autoruns].
    It definitely sounds viral. I suggest deleting the update.exe file, although Windows might prevent you from doing that until you kill all related processes. And if you have a persistent infection, the file may be restored or re-downloaded.
    It might be easiest to seek assistance from a forum more dedicated to malware cleanups such as the following:

  • 30-40x processes called "unar" eats up harddrive, memory and processor when TV is connected as external display. What is this and how do I get rid of it?

    What is this process and why does it eat up all my hard drive space, memory and processor every time external display is connected? If I have the display connected for long enough, it could easily eat up 60-70 gigs of my hard drive.

    Somehow we need to identify what this "unar" process is.
    Are you sure that this UnrarX is not in your login items ?? (the things to be automatically started at login)
    Perhaps removing any login startup items would help in isolating the problem
    As far as I find out, there's no easy way.
    There is the source of simple program that will tell you the path to a process from it PID. That's certainly not very elegant but you can find it here.
    Looking at your screen shot it would appear (just looking at the indentation) that the "unar" processes are not running as a sub-process of some other process like launchd, sh, Terminal, or something else.
    If that's not the case then a important piece of information would be the parent process.
    In the screenshot of a fragment of Activity Monitor below, bash is a sub process of login which is a sub process of Terminal. This structure only shows up if you sleected "all Processes, Hierarchically"
    It would be useful to look at all the views of processes available in Activity Monitor.
    By identifying in which views it shows up we can learn if it is a:
    System process
    one of My processes
    other User Process
    Windowed process
    etc
    This will help us in knowing where to look for "unar" and perhaps to figure out what it is, and why it keeps showing up

  • MDNSResponder keeps taking up more memory. After restart, it takes up about 5MBs of memory; after a few days, it is currently at 165MBs, and that's not the highest its gone. Currently running 10.5.8 with all updates.

    I'm running an Intel Core Duo iMac with 10.5.8 and all updates.
    The computer has been running slow, even after replacing the HDD a few months ago. I noticed last week in Activity Monitor that the process mDNSResponder was consuming several hundred MBs of memory. I searched, thinking it was malware, but found that it is the correct spelling of the process and is vital for Mac networking. I restarted the computer, and mDNSResponder shrunk to only consuming about 4MBs of memory.
    I checked again a week later, and it's climbed back up to consuming 165MBs of memory, and seems to be climbing.
    Is this normal? Between it and Safari, there's always at least 300MBs of memory being consumed, just being connected and using the internet.
    I've read elsewhere that sometimes Brother printer drivers can cause mDNSResponder to consume much of the CPU; however, I don't have a Brother printer, and mDNSResponder isn't using any of the CPU currently. I couldn't find anything posted about a possible memory leak.
    When I open the process in Activity Monitor, it says there are zero hangs.

    The amount of memory it's using is largely irrelevant - at least given the available data.
    One of the things mDNSresponder does is cache DNS records, so of course it's going to use less memory after a restart (it has no cached data) than it is after a couple of weeks of runtime (it's cached a slew of lookups). In fact, generally you want this process to use memory since it improves overall performance.
    The exception to that rule, of course, is if you don't have enough memory in your machine to do the other tasks, in which case that 165MB might be better used by other processes to reduce paging, but that isn't apparent from your post since you don't include any kind of memory stats. If you have plenty of memory available then the 165MB used by mDNSResponder isn't an issue.
    Look more closely at your memory utilization and processes that have high CPU usage rather that ones with large memory footprints per se.

  • Taking out and replacing memory and hard drive.

    Hey so I want to get a macbook pro 13 in. and I want to upgrade it by putting in more memory and a better hard drive, but I want to buy parts from a different site because it is so much cheaper. Is it easy to take out and replace the memory and hard drive of a macbook pro?

    Just make sure the RAM you're buying is brand name and match the specs of your macbook.
    Getting cheaper RAM modules sometimes cause issues with the way your Macbook peforms.  Learned that lesson when I decided to buy Kingston Value RAM.  Had nothing but trouble.
    Stick with brands like Crucial ( which I use ), Corsair, Mushkin, Kingston (non value) and from OWC.
    As for the hard drive, stay away from Western Digital Blue edition, some macbooks have issues with them.
    Also make sure you buy an external USB enclosure so you can clone your drive before you intall it and install your old drive in the USB enclosure and use it as your backup drive.
    If you're technically capable, it quite easy swapping out the RAM and Hard Drive.
    Do the clone first before you do anything else.  That way, when you're done the clone, you just have to open up your macbook once to do the swap.
    Good luck and hope everything goes smoothly for you.
    Post back if you need a hand or have any questions.

    Hello Manoj,
           Thanks for your quick response, Previously the server has 4GB RAM and now also it has same.
    Yesterday i found some more information, like deployed(through SDM) applications also take some memory at the time of starting the J2EE server...Is it right?
    Any other cause...let me know

  • Agent taking too much memory...

    Hello all,
    i am on hp-ux itanium. I have OMS(11.1) and agent running on this box. And for some reason the oracle process is taking too much memory. From the glance cmd at OS level, we get the below...Why is java taking some much memory...the only thing running on this box is OMS, agent, the repository DB and one other DB. This machine is 16gb of memory. Any idea where i can start digging to figure out why so much memory is being taken by java and emagent process ??? is that normal ?

  • SQL Server Memory And Di Object

    Hello Experts
    I'm doing a loop which use some DI Objects. This loop occurs more than 80 000 times.
    In this loop I manage a BusinessPartner Di Object like that
    private static SAPBobsCom.BusinessPartners myPartners;
    while(...)
    myPartners = (SAPBobsCom.BusinessPartners)Di.GetBusinessObject(oBusinessPrtners);
    myPartners.GetbyKey(...)
    //treatments
    //Sometimes
    myPartner.Add()
    myPartner.Update()
    //Always
    System.runtime.....releaseComObject(myPartner)
    GC.Collect();
    GC.WaitForPendingFinalizers();
    It works fine but the sqlServer Process take more and more Memory and arrive to 1 200 mb RAM.
    I have to re-start the SQL Server Service to erase memory, no DBCC query work.
    have you any Idea to stop this memory grow ?
    Thanks a lot for Ideas...

    Hi Julien,
    The amount of memory that SQL Server takes should level out. When you run an intensive process the memory manager will start taking chunks of memory to boost performance. Typically it won't release this memory unless the server is low on physical memory and another application requires more memory. However, when you next run the process, SQL will use up the RAM that is already available to it before requesting more. This should mean that your process will not take any significant extra memory next time it is run (assuming the same workload at the time).
    SQL will typically only have a 100MB footprint when it has just been started. On a production system, I would expect to see 1-2GB of memory being used by SQL on an average SBO site (more for larger sites and more if the client uses large XL Reporter reports or query intensive addons like Fixed Assets).
    Although SQL Server 2000 was a little prone to leaking memory, I have not known this to be the case in SQL 2005.
    Have you tested running your script twice in a row?
    Kind Regards,
    Owen

  • Which process taking high CPU

    Hi
    Our environment is having SCOM 2007 R2.
    I want to get the details of processes taking high CPU,memory in windows server 2003 , 2008. These details are stored in Opsmgr DatawareHouse ? , can I get in the form of reports? OR any script available.Please help.
    Regards
    Madhavi

    Hi Madhavi,
    Run this script on a server and you will get the individual process utilization. I am not sure how you exactly need this.
    strComputer = "localhost"
    Set objWMIService = GetObject("winmgmts:" _
        & "{impersonationLevel=impersonate}!\\" _
        & strComputer & "\root\cimv2")
    Set colProcesses = objWMIService.ExecQuery _
       ("Select * from Win32_Process")
    For Each objProcess in colProcesses
        Wscript.Echo "Process: " & objProcess.Name
        sngProcessTime = (CSng(objProcess.KernelModeTime) + _
            CSng(objProcess.UserModeTime)) / 10000000
        Wscript.Echo "Processor Time: " & sngProcessTime
        Wscript.Echo "Process ID: " & objProcess.ProcessID
        Wscript.Echo "Working Set Size: " _
        & objProcess.WorkingSetSize
        Wscript.Echo "Page File Size: " _
        & objProcess.PageFileUsage
        Wscript.Echo "Page Faults: " & objProcess.PageFaults
    Next
    Let me know if this helps

  • SAP ECC6 memory and paging issues

    Dear Experts
    I have recently upgraded my 4.6C systems to an ECC 6 system (DB2 LUW 9.5 on AIX 5.3 TL9 64 Bit OS)
    I have been running the LPAR with 14 GB of memory and we are around 100-200+ users using the system, I was monitoring using nmon and found that Physical Memory was around 99.8% Used   (14311.8MB and 22.6MB was free) also the paging space was around 37.2% in result causing the system at times to run slow which can have a very negative effect on the users.
    After further investigation I found that after a system restart the Physical Memory would start around 50.9% and increased at a steady pace until it reached 99.8% that is when the system would start using the paging space which would steadily increase, I found that the only solution was a system restart at least once a week to reduce the memory consumption.
    At first glance it looked like a database manger memory leak with the process db2sysc, so I searched the net with the search words u201Cdb2 memory leaku201D and found the following APARs and notes.
    APAR JR30285 - Pervasive memory leak when compiling SQL statements that use SQL/XML functions
    APAR IZ35230 - There is a pervasive unix-specific private memory leak in the security component
    Note 1288341 - Memory leak in APPLHEAPSZ -> SQL0954C
    Note 1352361 - Memory leak in shared memory area abrfci
    Note 1147821 - DB6: Known Errors and available Fixes in DB2 9.5 LUW
    After reading the notes and APARs I decided to updated DB2 to the latest fix pack (5SAP), but after the fix pack was implemented it did not solve the memory problem
    I started look at different problems with SAP ECC6, db2 and AIX with paging/memory problems and I found the following notes to do with AIX memory and paging but none of them helped as all parameters and settings were set accordingly
    789477 - Large extended memory on AIX (64-bit) as of Kernel 6.20
    191801 - AIX 64-bit with very large amount of Extended Memory
    973227 - AIX Virtual Memory Management: Tuning Recommendations
    884393 - AIX saposcol consumes large amount of memory.

    1121904 u2013 SAP on AIX: Recommendations for Paging

  • Problem with Photoshop CS5. Memory and Harddisk spaces

    Just got CS5 Master Suite. Whenever I open photoshop it takes a ton of memory 1 gig +. When I open files it takes up more and more until it takes up all my memory and hard disk space. I open a simple multi layered file that is 25 megs in size to work on it. Before I know it photoshop is taking 20gigs+ of my hard disk space along with 3+ gigs of system memory. Is there a memory problem in photoshop cs5?
    Thanks!
    Joseph

    So I just opened the 25 meg file in photoshop cs5 and watched my free space on my hard drive go down 8 gigs the instant I opened it. It went from 27 gigs of freespace to 19 instantly.
    I am running a Macbook Pro with OSX 10.6., 4 gigs of ram on board.

    UPDATE:
    So I just opened the 25 meg file  in photoshop cs5 and watched my free space on my hard drive go down 8  gigs the instant I opened it. It went from 27 gigs of freespace to 19  instantly. As I open more files and close others it works till my harddrive goes to zero space... stalls the computer big time. Only way to correct it is to quit photoshop cs5 and wait a few minutes for the space to return... and it takes a few minutes for it all to return.
