Photostream and iphoto

I can't seem to get Iphoto hooked up, keeps asking me for a MobilMe account which I never activated.

1.) So if I use Photostream with iPhoto it will just make the last imported photos available through iCloud?
2.) Is there a way to use my iPad to access photos in iPhoto over my WiFi network?
Thanks.

  • Photostream and iPhoto automatic download?

    Apple Pals:
I have iPhoto set up to download my photostream from my iPhone camera. It also duplicates the photos and puts them in an event. Good. Now, the question is, does anybody know if the photos are downloaded even if iPhoto is not run for months?

It will download if the Mac is running and connected to the internet. iPhoto doesn't need to be running.

  • ICloud/PhotoStream and iPhoto Events

I was surprised to find that Photo Stream via iCloud doesn't sync Events or Albums from iPhoto. With Mobile Me Gallery It was possible to publish individual Events and Albums.  Is there a way to configure Photo Stream to upload Events and Album?  The way it works now I have to regroup the photos on my iOS device?

If I do so, will I be able to see all my MacBook iPhoto progress (places, faces, events, etc) on the iPad app ?
just some notes in addition to Ralphs answer: Your iPad is very useful to browse and show off your photos, i.e. the Retina iPad. You can sync to the iPad via iTunes or using the Photo Stream or a shared Photo Stream.  But if you can browse and store all your photos on the iPad, will depend on the available storage on your iPad. Using iTunes you can sync events, albums, faces stacks, places stacks to your iPad. Not many metadata tags will transfer however.
See the iPhoto help on what iPhoto can actually do:

Thanks for responding. When I open the email and click on Subscribe to this Photo Stream, this is the message I get:
To subscribe to Pamela Mccormack’s “Baltimore Zoo” photo stream on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac, open your invitation in the Mail app, and click the Subscribe button in the message.

The "link related" and "text related" crashes were what I interpretted here, too, though I'm at a loss on how to proceed given that this is a fresh system and applications.  This is happening with multiple InDesign projects in a design office environment where many others work on the same files and none of the other computers are having problems with these files.  I've removed the same files listed (thank you for those) before and did so effectively with creating the new user account to test with, but it had no effect.  I just tried again though, as these files could easily have becone corrupt again if they were being written to when InDesign crashed.  Will let you know if that makes any difference.  I've also gone through and completely cleaned out the fonts again and once more cleared the font caches.  If need be I'll reboot this system into safe mode and try that way.
    Best,
    Mike

  • Issue with Photostream in iPhoto 11

Dear forum members, I'm having a strange issue with iCloud's Photostream in iPhoto 11. The new photos added from my iPhone and iMac appear in my MacBook's Photostream (MacBook Pro 13" Mid 2012, running OSX 10.8.2), but everytime I try to edit or view a photo in my library, iPhoto simply cannot find the file (autoimport is activated). Do you have a clue about what's happening? Thank you very much for the attention.

What version of iPhoto? there are multiple versions of iPhoto '11 and olders ones do not support PS or shared PS
If you have teh correct version on your MB you can try resetting PS - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4890?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

  • Sharing Photostreams in iPhoto 9.4 not working

iPhoto used to be so simple. Now, with Albums, Events, Photos, Journals, Photostreams etc it's all becoming a bit of a dog's breakfast. All I want to do is to share some photos with my family.
So I use the new Photostream sharing facility in iPhoto 9.4. I follow the instructions to the letter: Select Photos>Click Share> Choose Photstream from the pop-up>then New Photostream>then email addresses>then click Share. But the new shared Photostream is empty and I end up sending an email to my family inviting them to subscribe to an empty Photostream. What's going on? Is anyone else getting this problem? Should I be doing something clever that Apple hasn't yet told me about?
    Grateful for any help.

I had a reply from iPhoto Support which said the following:
Under the Apple menu [], select System Preferences and click on the iCloud icon.
    Turn off Photo Stream.
Go to iPhoto, click Photo Stream on the sidebar and click "Turn on Photo Stream".
This was supposed to clear the problem. Sadly, for me at least, it hasn't. Now, I can create a shared Photostream and share it with myself, but it's empty and, now, it doesn't even share itself with me. :-(

  • No photos in Photostream in iphoto

When I try to look at my photostream in iPhoto (v 9.3.2) it tells me that there are no photos there.
    However:
    - on my iPhone and iPad I see my last 1000 photos in photostream
    - on my Mac, photos are automatically getting transferred into new events (like Photostream Aug 2012)
    - Photostream is ON in my preferences on my Mac, my iPhone, and my iPad
So it seems to be working... my photos are going into photostream across devices... but when I try to look at them in Photostream on my Mac, I can't see any of them.
Noticed this for the first time a week or so ago... very weird. Is this a Mountain Lion thing? Is anybody else experiencing this?
    Thanks,
    John

First you have to make sure the Photo Stream photos have been imported into you iPhoto Library before they can be shared via a public or private Photo Stream:
Once imported you can select them in the library and create a public or private Photo Stream to share:

  • Some pictures on my iphone 4s are not uploaded to Icloud and Photostream and stay in the camera roll

After taking pictures with my IPhone 4S the pictures are not uploaded from the camera roll to ICloud and my Ipad.  The pictures do not show up in the the IPhone Photostream after taken.  Any solutions?

    Hello,
I have experienced a similar issue.
Normally all photos from iPhone or iPad correctly push to photostream and it works.
But on a recent travel the photostream pushing seemed "spotty" and some random pictures taken with iPhone were/are  not pushed to photostream. On the destination there was a (slow) wifi connection, might have something to do with it - but even after getting home to my faster wifi connection the remaining photos in my camera roll are still not pushed to photostream from the iPhone.
The missing photos not being pushed from the iPhone to photostream are random in timeline ("spotty" pushing).
Any ideas on why this happens?
I guess after connecting the iPhone to my Mac the entire camera roll will load into iPhoto, and iPhoto on Mac will do the remaining "pushing" to photostream; will have to wait and see.
But this issue purely is about incomplete pushing from iPhone camera roll to photostream.

  • Is photostream in iPhoto safe from deletion?

I'm trying to work out the difference between an iCloud backup of my photos from my iPhone and Photostream and I'd appreciate some help. Yesterday whilst out and about, I got the message that my iPhone couldn't be backed up to iCloud as my storage was at it's limit. Clearly most of this is photos as I have backup photos to iCloud activated. That said, the folder April 2014 Photostream in iPhoto doesn't contain any of the photos I took a few days ago. I only use the freebie 5GB in iCloud and don't want to pay more. As a general rule I backup my phone to my computer a couple of times a month and with it, my photos to iPhoto so I'm not overly fussed about that part.
My question is two parts I suppose, can I drop the photos backup from iCloud and will photostream still exist and function? And, do the photos that appear in iPhoto as part of the photostream remain there or are they deleted when I delete them from my IOS device?

The following is from this Apple document:iCloud: iCloud storage and backup overview
    What iCloud backs up
You have important information on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. iCloud automatically backs up your device over Wi-Fi every day while it’s turned on, locked, and connected to a power source. With your device information backed up in iCloud, you can easily set up a new device or restore information on one you already have.
    Here’s what iCloud backs up:
Purchased history for music, movies, TV shows, apps, and booksYour iCloud backup includes information about the content you have purchased, but not the purchased content itself. When you restore from an iCloud backup, your purchased content is automatically downloaded from the iTunes Store, App Store, or iBooks Store. Automatic downloading is based on iTunes in the Cloud availability by country, and previous purchases may be unavailable if they have been refunded or are no longer available in the store.

  • Lion and iPhoto not updated?

On October 13 i wanted to install ios 5, iphoto 9.2, lion 10.7.2, and already had itunes 10.5
I updated ios 5 without problems, and then went to software update to update my mac.
i found 3 updates: lion, iphoto and recovery. i wanted to install lion and iphoto, leaving recovery behind for 1 day or 2.
i selected iphoto and lion to update and left the computer. i found later an error message saying that it was not able to download, but went to software update to redownload and iphoto and lion were not there(as they were already updated). Now i go to about my mac and the version is 10.7.2 and iphoto is 9.2, but if i search photostream or icloud i can't find it, instead of icloud i can sign in for a mobile me account (same in lion 10.7.1) so makes me think that i have the old version, but computer thinks is the new version, what to do? even searching in iphoto for updates, says is up to date. what can i do? i really need iCloud

Log out of iCloud in the System/iCloud preference pane and disable Photo Stream in iPhoto's Photo Share preference pane.  Then log back in and re-enable, respectively.  That should jump start Photo Stream.

  • I can't open photostream in iPhoto 9.2.1 on my MacBook

i can't open photostream in iPhoto 9.2.1 on my MacBook.  it works on my iphone and ipad.  It takes me in circles and every time I get to iCloud preferences it shows that photostream is check "on" but when I try to turn photostream on it tell me I must login to icloud and turn it on which it already is.  Any suggestions?

    Hi there
I too am having the same problem, Has it been solved yet.  I do not even see Photostream when I go to Preferences on my iphoto 9.2.2 update.  I purchased iphoto 8 as part of a Mac Box set family pack and then downloaded the iphoto 11 from the app store.  Is there something I have done wrong?  I also cannot put a check in the window for the program to check for updates automacially.  The box is greyed out and I cannot mark it.
I only downloaded the newest verson to get photo stream to work from my ipad and iphone.
Is anyone able to throw some light on this since the last post.  Also how do I access icloud from iphoto?

  • How to create shared photostream and let others add photos

Creating a Photostream that allows others to add images can be done on my iOS7 devices, but it seems Aperture is missing the option to do it on the Mac. Am I missing something?

    Am I missing something?
No, it is not yet possible to add to the shared streams created with iOS 7.02. You will have to wait for software updates that will make Mac OS X , Aperture, and iPhoto compatible with these new shared Photo Photo Streams. We are not allowed to speculate here, but let's wait and see, what the new MacOS X will bring.

  • Archiving old photos and iPhoto 9.5

    So,
The newest version of iPhoto has not only dropped the ability to burn old photos to CD and DVD, it's stopped supporting reading libraries that are set read-only.
Even worse, even if you do use the iPhoto Library Ugrader to convert a backup DVD to modern format, when you open in it in iPhoto, iPhoto will promply try to sync it to your iPad, your iPhone, PhotoStream and everything else.
SO HOW THE HECK AM I SUPPOSED TO ARCHIVE OLD PHOTOS?!?
This is ridiculous. Does anyone have any idea for a good process for archiving old photos in a way that they can still be accessed without worrying about them being "contaminated" with stuff from your photostream or other current sources?

You archive old libraries to HD's. Turn off Photostream, FB et al and nothing will be "infected".
You might be able to use an app like Keyboard Maestro to automate the upgrade procedure.
My sole contribution to the thread prior to your sarcasm. It offers two solutions to your queries. No argument. I blamed you for nothing, I simply explained the problem you have and indeed offered a solution. Nowhere do I say that anything is your wife's fault, so the notion that I blamed her for anything is twaddle. You're the one that mentioned it.
I said nothign about exporting photos at all, and the solution I suggested woud preserve all the tags, descriptions and ratings. But then, if you weren't so busy being sacastic to people who are trying to help you, you might read what I said again:
The solution to your iPhoto problem is simple: Copy all the Libraries to a HD. Upgrade them. Merge them into one. Turn off any features you don't want. Have a robust back up system in place.
Export? Lose metadata? Not if you do it right.
