PhotoStream as an Event

I was able to create an Event of the month's PhotoStream by:
1. Choosing the Photostream you want by selecting on the #photos on the grey bar (this highlights the photos in that month's PhotoStream)
2. Flag those photos (Command FullStop)
3. Go to the Events Dropdown Menu and select "Create an Event from Flagged Photos"
4. This creates an "Untitled Event" whereby you can then continue to manage your photos as per usual
5. Remember to Unflag the photos highlighted (Command FullStop)
6. This helps you "fix" duplicate photos in your Library

You can have Photo Stream photos saved into a new Event each motnth automatically by setting up iPhoto's Photo Stream preferences as shown below:

  • How do I copy photos from Photostream to an event in iPhoto on my iMac?

OK, it looks like photostream is working as it has imported photos from my iPhone to the folder called Photostream in iPhoto on my iMac.
Now, I want to copy some of these photos and paste them into certain existing events I have already created.  I can highlight the ones I want, and copy from the menu, but when I go to the event I want to place them into it doesn't allow me to paste them.
Can someone give me the step by step instructions I should use to copy/move photos from the Photostream folder to an event folder on my iMac?
    Thanks!

Flag the pic(s) and select the the Target Event and go Events -> Add Flagged Pics to Selected Event
i see how to do this
Drag the selected pic(s) to the target Event.
i'm struggling with this. i don't see a way to drag a pic from photostream direct to an event. if i'm in photostream, i can drag a pic, but i can't see any individual event to drag it to. i can dump it in Events in the sidebar and drag to an event from there, but that's a bit clunky.
beats me why i can copy a pic in photostream, but iphoto won't allow me to paste in an event???

  • ICloud/PhotoStream and iPhoto Events

I was surprised to find that Photo Stream via iCloud doesn't sync Events or Albums from iPhoto. With Mobile Me Gallery It was possible to publish individual Events and Albums.  Is there a way to configure Photo Stream to upload Events and Album?  The way it works now I have to regroup the photos on my iOS device?

If I do so, will I be able to see all my MacBook iPhoto progress (places, faces, events, etc) on the iPad app ?
just some notes in addition to Ralphs answer: Your iPad is very useful to browse and show off your photos, i.e. the Retina iPad. You can sync to the iPad via iTunes or using the Photo Stream or a shared Photo Stream.  But if you can browse and store all your photos on the iPad, will depend on the available storage on your iPad. Using iTunes you can sync events, albums, faces stacks, places stacks to your iPad. Not many metadata tags will transfer however.
See the iPhoto help on what iPhoto can actually do:

  • Photostream Events Deleting in iPhoto?

Question on Photostream in iPhoto. I have iPhoto set to automatically import photo's to events and my events appear as separate days in the Events section of iPhoto. I also see one event per month for the Photostream photo's for that month...so November 2013 Photostream for the current month for example. The photo's in the photostream event don't appear in the event for the day the photo was taken....i.e. they are not duplicated in two events....the monthly photostream and day event. I have noticed today that the oldest monthly photostream is October 2012 Photostream. I have ~500 photo's in My Photostream. There must have been monthly photostream events earlier than October 2012 so my questions are -
    1. do the monthly photostream events delete from iPhoto after a set period of time even if you have not reached the 1000 photo limit, and
    2. if a monthly photostreram event is deleted, are all photo's in the photostream event deleted if they are not appearinmg as separate day events (the event being the date the photo's were taken on) and even though I have automatic import into events turned on?
    Thanks
    Brian

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Assuming that iPhoto > preferences > PhotoStream > automatic import is checked then yes, photos from PhotoStream are automatically imported into monthly events and are saved even when PhotoStream deletes the photos due to numbers/time restrictions.

  • Photos - my photos are duplicated in Albums, Photo Stream and Events.  Does this take additional memory?

I need instruction and not understanding Photos.  When I put photos from my Canon Camera through the Apple Connector - SD Card Reader, the photos are displayed in the Photo App.  They are duplicated in many areas:  Photos, PhotoStream, Albums, and Events.  Is this the way Apple does this?  Can I just have photos in one place in the app?  BTW: my PhotoStream setting is on on the iPAD4 and on my iPHONE 5.  Should I turn off?  If they are duplicated in all areas, are they taken up space on my iPAD?Please advise.
Also, can I delete multiple photos on my iPAD4 without selecting each one?  I don't seem to see a Select All option.  Also, I am not sure when I see this dialogue box on the iPAD4, but it seems I only get Delete Everywhere instead of just Delete.  Why?  Is there a setting I need to know about.
When I connect my iPAD4 through the hardwire to my PC, can I just create a folder and copy my photos on my iPAD4 to my PC.  They will not remove them from the iPAD4, correct?

Basically within the photo app, there are sever views available, each having a different purpose, but only one file per image (at least I'm fairly certain that's how it works). Start off with the Photos section of the user guide (link below). It may not answer all of your questions, but will give you a good starting place.

  • Using PhotoStream

I'm having trouble using PhotoStream.    I've used it 3 times to copy photos to iPhoto, but don't have it right.
Today I took some photos with my grandchildren.    And my grandson accidentally took a bunch of screen shots.    I went home and opened iPhoto, and clicked on PhotoStream.   It asked me if I wanted to use Photostream.  (It didn't ask me the 2nd time I used it, I wonder why it did this time).     I tried selecting individual photos to move to an event.    As I selected one, the screen refreshed and I saw that I selected a different one.    After about 5 minutes of this nonsense, I had the photos I wanted to select, and I dragged them to events.
Except there was an event with all of my photostream photos, not one with just these photos.    Some of those photos were from previous days.    So I went through and selected individual photos and deleted them.     I have no idea which are the high res photos from my iPhone, and which were the duplicates, so I went to my iPhone and told it not to save the duplicates.   (There must be some way to tell).     Googling, I found that I can delete every photo on PhotoStream, but not individual ones.    I have to decide which of these poor choices is better.    If I have work photos, I'll have to delete all of them.
Then I went to my iPhone and tried to select all of my photos to delete them.   I didn't figure it out, so I tapped on each one individually until they were all selected, and deleted them.    Or maybe I should have plugged my phone directly into my computer and run image capture.
I'm wondering if I should rename the "Jan 2012 Photo Stream" event so I don't add to it next time I have photos in January, it will leave that event alone.   I don't want all of the photos I already deleted from it to show up again.
Do you recommend any different procedures to make this "just work"?

Check your iPhoto preferences, you likely already have Photostream set to add its photos to events, Photostream creates an event for each month. A Photo can be in only one event, but as many albums as you wish. It sounds as though you may not fully understand events.

  • Photostream storage question(s)

    Hey.
I have a couple of questions regarding photostream, should I choose to share a photostream with friends:
    1. Is there a photo limit? i.e. My personal photostream allows up to 1,000 photos. Is this the same with shared streams?
    2. If I was to share a photostream and then delete the photos from my iDevice (I presume they stay in the photostream) where is the shared photostream stored; iCloud? iDevice?
I ask because I am removing my Facebook profile however I have hundreds of Facebook photos which my friends still want to be able to see (yet not download them unless needed...) and I was going to stick them in a photostream for them to still have.
All and any help is appreciated.
    Thom

Not sure about the question, but I will tell you my personal experience.
I have a few shared photostreams from Holiday events, and when I deleted the photos from the Camera Roll, and My Photo Stream, the photos still remain in my shared photo streams that I have shared with others.
And that is fantastic, I am happy with that.
My question is, are the pictures in the shared photostreams that I have created and shared with others, stored on my device, only in iCloud, both, or maybe they are just temporarily cached to my device?
Always wondered. It's not a big issue for me, as I have tons of space, and I know there is a limit on shared photo streams, but I have friends that have 16GB iPhones with limited free space that have been apprehensive about making or subscribing to shared photo streams.

  • How to prevent iPhoto to make an automatic event when importing from Photo stream

    Hi everyone,
My question is related to the Photo stream functionality in iPhoto.
Is possible to prevent iPhoto from making an automatic event when I import a photo from Photo stream. It is really annoying because of the fact that I use "events" for keeping my important photo's together (as many of you do I asume). Ofcourse after importing I can just delete it from my event section but is there a way to prevent it?
    Thanks.

No. Photostream creates an Event for each month.
iPhoto has many other tools for managing and categorising your Photos.
I use Events simply as big buckets of Photos: Spring 08, July - Nov 06 are typical Events in my Library. I use keywords and Smart Albums extensively. I title the pics broadly.
    I keyword on a
    Who
    What
Where basis (The When is in the photos's Exif metadata). I also rate the pics on a 1 - 5 star basis.
Using this system I can find pretty much find any pic in my 40k library in a couple of seconds.
So, for example, I have a batch of pics titled 'Seattle 08' and a  typical keywording might include: John, Anne, Landscape, mountain, trees, snow. With a rating included it's so very easy to find the best pics we took at Mount Rainier.
    File -> New Smart Album
    set it to 'All"
    title contains Seattle
    keyword is mountain
    keyword is snow
    rating is 5 stars
Or, want a chronological album of John from birth to today?
    New Smart Album
    Keyword is John
Set the View options to Sort By Date Ascending
    Want only the best pics?
add Rating is greater than 4 stars
The best thing about this system is that it's dynamic. If I add 50 more pics of John  to the Library tomorrow, as I keyword and rate them they are added to the Smart Album.
In the end, organisation is about finding the pics. The point is to make locating that pic or batch of pics findable fast. This system works for me.

  • HT201317 Saving Photo Stream Pictures

Do I have to move pictures into albums from photo stream to keep them forever?

If you mean on your iOS device, yes. If You mean on a PC, I wouldn't know. If you mean on a Mac, then yes but you can set iPhoto to move photostream photos to events automatically for you.

  • Eek! 1000 photos on phone!

I was editing photos in iPhoto on my iMac and tried to photostream only one photo from an event to my iPhone so I could post it on Instagram.  When I hit "share - photostream" the entire Event populated my phone - almost 350 photos.  I want to remove them from my phone, but not from iMac.  I don't want any other photos already on my phone to be deleted.  Is there a way to do this?  When I try to turn off Photostream on the phone settings I am told that turning it off will remove all the streamed photos from my device. I don't want all of them to go - just the 350 which went there in error.  Cany anybody help?  Thanks!

  • More than 1,000 photos in Photostream, Events as well?

I made a clean install of Lion and recuperated about 5,000 photos in a regular folder structure. Never opened iPhoto after the clean install.
Yesterday, I upgraded iPhoto on all devices, including my MBP and opened iPhoto for the first time. I activated Photostream and now I have the advertised 1,000 photos in Photostream but overall, I find now 2,300 photos and 79 events. I did not import anything in iPhoto, did not open iTunes and have never synced iPhone and iPad over iTunes with this machine. How is that possible?
I had my 5,000 photos still on my iPhone and iPad where I installed yesterday also iPhoto for iOS. Did Photostream recuperate all of those photos? Did it sync them back from my mobile devices?
    Anybody any ideas?

You're talking about photo stream (up to 1000 photos for up to 30 days).  Photo stream is not a photo storage service, in fact, icloud doesn't provide a photo storage; the only other thing it does is perform backups of the Camera Roll, if you have set that up correctly.  You should be syncing photos to your computer for archiving, don't trust the pics to icloud!
Aside from storing on your computer, there are other services that provide storage - like Dropbox.

  • How do you sort your Photostream Events in iPhoto?

I have my photostream photos automatically imported to  iPhoto on my iMac - so I have lots of "events" with names like March 2013 photostream or July 2014 photostream. In each of these events, there are often a whole group of photos that belong together - like a birthday party. There are also some "one off" photos that just one or two shots of something I wanted to photograph (like a couple of pictures of a rainbow, or a picture of a recipe that I like to have on hand so that I can shop for ingredients). I am not sure how these are supposed to be handled. I can leave them all in photostream and add key words to the photos so that I can search for them perhaps (but then I have to manage a lot of key words. I cannot just add a key word "Birthday Party" since I attend many birthday parties. I would have to use a key work like "Bob's 30th birthday party" unless I wasted my search to turn up every picture ever taken at any birthday party!) i can create an event and call it "Bob's 30th birthday party. That seems to work ok - although I'm not sure if I should be doing this. As for the other photos, like the two of the rainbow and the one of the recipe, I don't know what to do with them. I can leave them in photostream with keywords. I can create an entire event called "Recipes" although the range of dates on such a folder might be quite wide since I am always saving recipes, which  means that when my events are sorted by date, my new recipes will appear in an early event along with the very first recipe I ever took a photo of!
I would love to know how others arrange their events . Do you ever create an event based upon a subject (My Cat Missy) even if the photos span a good deal of time? Or do you leave Missy's photos spread over many events depending upon what date you snapped the photo??? Have you ever completely emptied out a monthly photostream event (for example, let's say all your photostream photos for the month were taken at one wedding, so you moved them all into a single event called "Kate's Wedding."
See what I mean? Back in the windows days, when admittedly, I took fewer photos, I would create a folder for each big photo taking event (christmas, weddings, birthdays, a lovely walk in the park) and I would create just one folder with the year "Photos from 2008" to put in all the ones and twos photos that don't really belong with anything else. I also had a single folder with pictures of my cats and one that had photos of recipes. I added to these photos anytime I had a picture of my cat or a recipe to upload.
What does everyone recommend? Sorry for being so long winded. I cannot find any info on "how to sort or manage monthly photostream event photos" so perhaps I am the only one with this issue.

    1. There is no right answer. There is no "should". There is the way that makes sense to you.
    2. You can keyword photos with Birthday party, but also Title them with Bob's 30th, that gives you two ways to search for them
This might give you some ideas:

  • PhotoStream is not creating Events in iPhoto

Having set my iPhone and iPad and iMac to PhotoShare/ PhotoStream I'm having issues creating Events in iPhoto.  I like events.!
There are pics in PhotoStream that do not and will not appear in Events.  Why.? How.?  Frustrations.!!!

Okay, did all that.  No help.  The search did not turn up the most recent photo stream. Logged out of iCloud (pain in the a@# because I have documents stored there), turned off photo stream in iPhoto, logged back in, turned on again, and Photostream repopulated iPhoto in exactly the same way as before (i.e., no event--but photostream in the left nav column).  Only thing I noticed is a little wireless icon in the photos in photostream.  Here's a picture:
See the little wireless icon in the bottom left corner?  Here's another picture:
There is no Nov. photostream event.  WHY?????  Do I actually have to plug in my device?  I thought the purpose of Photostream was....
