Photostream import prompt meaning?

hi leonie, all. i am getting the following prompt when importing photos from my iphone and i basically don't understand this since i have not seen it before. i believe i recently checked the automatic import setting but i can't really recall if i unchecked automatic upload on the mac pro (what i am working on now) or if this was the MBP.
anyway, does anyone know what this prompt is telling me?
also, is it possible that images from my CAMERA ROLL are thought by Aperture to have been imported into my library via aperture whereas in the past i had though that photostream was only a sync operation? i mean, are there images in my photostream projects that did not get imported into a "real" project somehow?

thank you so much. if it is OK i think i am going to start another thread with questions following up on your help regarding two-step import. i realized recently that i have one or two questions about this issue and your help here is really great. at the same time i don' want to clog up this thread with these follow up questions.
can i please ask you though about this import prompt which i think is linked (presumably) the behavior of the "Automatic Import" option?
1. am i correct in thinking that this prompt is linked to my checking the Automatic Import option and that if i uncheck this i can simply manually import photos to my aperture database on the mac pro using the USB connection to my iphone? 
2.  i want to make sure i understand this and i think you are saying that checking this option means that these imported photos are now automatically arriving in photostream - and aperture is thinking that i already imported them - is this correct?
3. again if i am understanding correctly if i want to have these photos (409 apparently in my case) added to the Aperture library in a Project (and not simply in the PhotoStream Project because this is not where i am storing my data) - that i should import the 409 photos via Image Capture (plus the other 20 that i already imported the other day when i got this prompt) and then i can import them all into into Aperture and delete the 20 that are duplicates - does that make sense?

    Up until a few weeks ago, my travel-photo-handling went like this:
    Each night, I download photos to my iPad for safekeeping. They, of course, wind up in Photostream.
    When I return home, I connect my camera card to my iMac (where I have my iPhoto library), and I can "see" the photos on my memory card - the photos which, although in Photostream, I have not yet manually downloaded.
    I select and ownload them.
    New Events are created in my Library automatically, as I have my preference set to Autosplit Events.
    This week, I came home from a trip during which I had downloaded to iPad during my time away.
    I connected my memory card to the iMac.
    iPhoto did not "see" any photos to import - as far as iPhoto was concerned, those photos were already in my Library.
    I had iPhoto show all photos on my card, selected the photos from my trip (I shot over 1000) and clicked "Import Selected"
    iPhoto says they're duplicates.
    However, the photos have NOT been downloaded manually and there are NO Events in my Library for those days.
    Note: yeah, they're in Photostream, but IN THE PAST - and I mean literally up until 3 weeks ago - the photos have ALWAYS been "visible" and importable even if in Photostream, as long as I had not yet manually downloaded to the computer.
    So my question, I guess, is multi-part:
    What changed in iPhoto and/or Photostream in the past couple of weeks?
    Why are Photostream photos suddenly considered to be the same as the photos on my card which have not yet been manually downloaded to the computer?
    What the heck is going on?
    I hate having duplicates, but I also hate being confused by something that used to be really easy, then - with Photosream - became annoying, and is now simply perplexing and sometimes imcomprehendable.

    Check iPhoto's Photo Stream preference pane to see if the highlighted checkbox in the screenshot below is checked.  If it is then all photos taken by the iPad are automatifdally being imported into your library.
    Go the the Events mode and check the View ➙ Sort menu option to verify where new Evens will be located, at the top of the window or the bottom.  Then check to see if your PS pictures are there.
    As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Connect your iPad and import all photos.  Dismount the iPad, close and reopen the test library, connect the iPad again and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it?
    If it does'nt then your current library is damaged and needs to be repaired.

  • Photostream imports face thumbnails from whole library

    First time on here as I'm not sure where else to go, have been to my local Apple Store (Manchester) and they couldn't fix ithe problem and then a 2hr call with Apple support, still no joy, case was referred nearly three weeks ago but not heard anything so hear I am..............
    I am using iPhoto'11 9.4.3 on a new MacBookPro OSX 10.8.3 with (Photo Library Manager 4.0.8) which I bought to clear out duplicates.
    I have been using photostream successfully for ages between my iPhone, iPad and Mac but now I am unable to turn it on as when I do it imports literally hundreds and hundreds of old photos and many of these are thumbnails of all the faces in the photos not just ones that I have used in face recognition.
    The Irisg guy I was talking o in support hadn't seen anything like it and set up a test iPhoto library and whilst he was talking this lobrary just grew before his eyes. My original library was approximately 3500 photos but with this it grew to 27,000 mainly composed of random thumbnail images.
    Please if you have any ideas could you spell them out in simple terms!
    I would really appreciate any help as I now am frightened of turning photostream on.

  • Import prompt for non existent device

    Every time I launch LR 2.2, if prompts me to import from my iPod Touch, which is not connected to the computer. It displays one blank image. How can I stop this from happening? When I plug in my compact flash card, I do want it to bring up the import dialog, which it does correctly.

    Import the bogus image, then delete it, that is, if you can import it, whatever "it" is.
    I'd like to not have my iPhone come up for prompting, as it does have images on it that I don't care to import.

    maybe it is late but i am upgrading to a new phone and am trying to get all the photos imported to my aperture library on my mac pro running lion. and i seem to have a couple of years worth of photostream albums in this library where i cannot figure out if the images reside solely in the project for that month or if they also reside elsewhere in my aperture database.
    anyway, can someone please remind me what this prompt means exactly?

    So you want those same folders under a parent 2011 folder instead of all at the same level?  You can add the 2011 folder and then drag and drop in LR's Folders panel to pull those folders into it.
    If you want years then months then days, you want the one with all slashes - 2011/02/03
    That said, it doesn't look like you're shooting vast numbers, so I'd go about it slightly differently if you've got stacks of folders to sort out.  I'd make a 2011 folder and simple month folders within that (01, 02, something like that) and then I'd use the Metadata filters to find all of the January photos and drag the photos themselves into the January folder, and repeat for the other 11 months.  Once you've done that, you can delete the empty day folders.  For small numbers, I wouldn't worry about breaking it down into a folder per day, so in the Import dialog in future I'd just choose the 2011/02 option.  Up to you.
    If you edited the photos in LR yet, it would be quicker to start to a new catalog and reimport, and let LR move them into your chosen folder structure.

    From the client you can only use import (imp) or sqlloader if when you say import you mean text files not a dump file.

  • Problem Importing into iPhoto 11 Events after Photostream

    Before Photostream, importing my photos into iPhoto worked fine for me.  By USB cable from my iPhone or camera, I imported and elected to import all of them.  They showed up under "Last Import", but I also had the option (I forget now the procedures I followed) to sort this Last Import into one or more existing or new Events that I could name.
    I don't know if Photostream has caused the problem, but now after I follow the prior procedure and have a "Last Import" (which does show thumbnails of all the photos), I can't find out to create the actual Events into which I want to place these photos.  If I go to Photosteam, this does not help.  If I go to the automatically created, say, "Dec 2011 Photosteam" event folder, I can (painstakingly) create one or more events into which to sort the pictures in that folder--but at this point I lose many of the photos from that folder.  However, they are still in the main Photostream folder and in "Last Import".
    If I go to "Events" in the source column at the left, I do not see the new pictures (they are only in Last Import, in Photostream, and, sometimes, in the most recent monthly folder automatically created for Photostream).  If I go to the Events dropdown menu, the selections (such as Create Event) are grayed out--irrespective of whether I have Selected All or selected any of the photos in the Last Import or Photosteam folder.  Thus, I can't get hold of the new pictures to put them into the events that I want.
    How do I break apart the individual photos like I used to be able to do, so that I end up with photos divided into existing or newly created events?
    Has anyone run into this problem?  Is anyone doing the same tasks without having any problem of this nature?  Anyone have a solution?

    Okay, I think I've answered my own question, based on my looking further at other questions and answers in this forum.  I needed to control-click on one of the photos in my Photos or Last Import folders and select "Show Event" from the contextual menu at the bottom of the pop-up window.  This directed me way up in my library to near the beginning--instead of at the end (latest date) where I expected to find the event.  I then need to go to the View menu, then down to Sort Events, and then click to Sort By Date (I don't know how this had become un-selected.)
    Once I was able to find the photos, I was able to follow my old procedures to continue creating events and sorting photos--all without needing to go into Photostream (since I had uploaded into iPhoto the photos I wanted to sort by USB cable from my camera and my iPhone).

  • How to get right folder name/location on import?

    I can't seem to get LR 3.x to import into the desired folder structure like I used to do with
    LR 1.x and 2.x.  I'm trying for a structure that looks like this:
    I want LR to automatically create a folder with the date stamp in it and located in the right year and then let me enter the the last part of the folder name that identifies the subject matter before the import starts.  So far, all I can get is the auto-generated folder name by date with no ability to edit that or a fully custom folder name where I have to both locate it properly and type the entire name including date.  In LR 1.x and 2.x, this was really easy.  LR would suggest the folder name (or multiple folder names if the images span multiple dates) with the date in it and I could just double click on it to add to the supplemental name before the import.  Can't find any way to do that in LR 3.x.  What it means is that I have to do the import, wait for it to complete, then come back and manually rename each folder it created.  This is particularly a pain when there are multiple folders (across multiple dates) and/or when my backup program has already kicked in and done a backup of the auto-generated date before I come in and manually rename it.
    So, my question is, how do I get LR to auto-suggest the right date-based folder name in the right folder location and let me add something onto the end of it before the import?  This was very easy in LR1.x and 2.x import.

    It slipped under the radar when redoing the new import window.
    Hopefully, we'll get it back in next major update. In the meantime. you
    can add the additional text post import by right clicking on folder name
    then choosing Rename from context menu.
    Thanks Ian.  I hope it does indeed come back.  Renaming the directories manually is what I do now - it just extra work from how I used to do it and it doesn't fit smoothly into the workflow because LR seems to get confused sometimes if I rename while it's still importing or while still building thumbnails.  For a big import, that means I have to go away, let the thumbnails build, then remember to come back promptly to rename the directory before my backup scheme starts backing up the wrongly named directory.  I've managed since 3.x came out, but it finally annoyed me enough I thought I'd post in hopes I was just missing a way to do this.  I sure hope this comes back in a future version.  Organizing by named "shoot" is a very natural way for me to do it.

  • Is it possible to import, only changes since last import using imp/impdp

    on our production environment, we export three times a day.(10.00AM,1.00PM,6:30PM)
    and We only want to import the evening export - we have to kind of make sure that if the online system fails _ we have a data up to yesterday evening.
    i.e. we want a sort of incremental import, for example we would have yesterday's evening import and today we only want to import all the changes since yesterday's evenings import - that means we want to import into existing database but we want to import only the changes since last import.

    I know about RMAN, but our management outsourced our data center and the guys there does not look comfortable around oracle - and me as a DBA was assigned to taking this export backup and import it to another PC once in a day
    so I was thinking if it was possible to import "incrementally"
    it is good to know that it is not possible, because I don't have to spend time looking for a solution which is not there.

  • Rebuilding indexes after importing...

    My coworker and I are discussing whether it is necessary, or advised, to rebuild indexes after an import of the schema.
    My thinking is that the index data is put into fresh blocks thereby creating a very flat index tree without any fragmentation.
    But my coworker suspects that perhaps the blocks are built exactly as they existed in the source database.
    I could understand, perhaps, if the refresh were done by using RMAN which copies block by block, but even then I'm not sure.
    Can you help us understand this please?

    Hi,
    Normally, the indexes are build and statistics upfated after the import automatically. You do not ned to generate the statistics after the import until unless you are running very old version of database.

  • Iphoto imported photos from my ipad but not from the "photo stream"- why?

    I'm trying to get all files off my brother's old ipad before restoring it. I imported photos onto my computer using iphoto, but it didn't import the photos in the "photostream" on the ipad- why not? I saw that iphoto will only import photos that were taken on the ipad but I'm pretty certain these were. Thank you.

    Let me try and explain it this way.
    Say I have taken ten pictures, 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10
    These were imported to iPhoto and went into an event it created called June 2013 Photostream. They were all imported and showed up in order 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10
    Some of them I have now tagged faces in etc.
    When I go back now and look in the June 2013 Photostream I only see 1,3,4,5,6,9,10
    But if I look in the last 12 months album I still see 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 in the right place and the right order
    Pictures 5,6,7,8 all had my face tagged and when I look in my face album 5,6,7,8 all show in the right place in the right order.
    I have got iPhoto to rebuild the library etc and they do not go back to showing in the Photostream import folder.

  • Can't import from camcorder with iMove '08

    I'm no longer able to import my movies from my Sony camcorder. I was able to do so in July so I'm assuming there's a problem with the latest software. The camcorder is connected via USB (it show its connected) but iMovie does not come up with the import prompt it used to, nor can I select from Import (it only shows the built-in camera). I have more then enough space, I've tried multiple USB cables, even disconnected everything else, re-booted, powered down the camcorder--everything. Please help, this is very frustrating!

    You don't say which camcorder you're using.
    Many Canon camcorders will NOT work properly with anything else, e.g; an external disc, on the FireWire circuit. Sorry. For those, you'd need to import to the internal disc and then copy to the external, and continue editing with the external drive.
    "..Could it be my firewire drive is too slow to record the video?.." No: all modern external FW drives are perfectly fast enough, and a 320gb is certainly a modern drive.
    "..formatted Mac OS extended (journaled).." ..are you absolutely CERTAIN..? ..It needs to be, otherwise it'll do just as you describe. And even discs bought for Macs or from Mac stores generally come formatted as "PC Exchange", i.e; MS-DOS formatted. Check it again by right-clicking or Ctrl-clicking it and use 'Get Info'. If it really says "Mac OS Extended" you're OK. If not, you'll need to use Applications>Utilities>Disk Utility, select the name of the disc and click the 'Erase' tab (after you've moved off the disc anything which you might want to keep) and then select 'Mac OS Extended'. CAUTION: be sure that you've selected the external drive: don't accidentally reformat and wipe your internal drive!

    Some camcorders are not properly recognised by iMovie at first. It pays to open a project which already has some footage in it, play that and then attach the camcorder and try importing. Playing back some existing DV footage often - in my experience, anyway - 'kick starts' the program into accepting more footage from the attached device.
    But that only works if (a) the drive DEFINITELY is formatted as Mac OS Extended, and (b) you're NOT using a Canon with an external disc..

  • Re-importing Configuration Objects

    I have imported Configuration Objects from .tpz files in Integration Directory. Because of those objects where unable to activate, I did a reject change and all objects were gone. When I try re-import from the same .tpz file, it is not showing in the file list. The .tpz file is there in the import folder of directory.
    Please help me to re-import objects from .tpz file.

    Hi,
    Here we have to consider some points while Exporting & Importing the .tpz files.
    1)Once you export that configuration objects, the tpz file will be created at Export DIR.
    2)From there we have to copy that file into Import DIR.
    3)Once You import the tpz file from Import DIR or faild to Import DIR means those files will be moved to Imported Files DIR.
    4) Now if we are looking to import those again means , they will not be available to import in ID.
    So we have to copy that file again from the Export DIR and Paste it inImport Folder

  • Importing LCA applications issues

    Hello everybody.
    In the last few days I've been working with the LCES2 Linux virtual appliance made available by Adobe and I tried to import a fairly complex application developed with LCES 8.2.1.
    I stumbled across a few issues I'd like to share with you.
    The LCA archive was created with LCES WorkBench and I had no issues with previous versions of LCES; in LCES2, I had to import it using adminui [LiveCycle Archives (8.x)] and then, using LCES2 WB, I had to create a new application and import Processes and Resources from the server.
    Once the operation completed, I noticed the following:
    1) FTP Exceptions are not handled
    I had a couple of FTP "Get to filesystem" and "Put" operations whose "FTPConnectionException" was not handled and caused a LCES exception; as a workaround, I had to remove the exception and "re-draw" it as to point again to the handling block (and it worked).
    2) SubProcess renaming
    The main process had a subprocess named "PDF/A Operations" which, once imported into LCES2 WorkBench, was renamed (in the [Applications] view) as "A Operations". This seems to be a cosmetic issue since I did not have to change the invoking block as to reflect the change of the name.
    3) Accented characters
    In both a "Send with Document" email operation or in a simple assignment (Setvalue/Execute) I had an expression which contained accented characters (eg, à or è); I had to edit the message/assignment as to retype the offending characters (which got depicted as []) as to let LCES2 handle them as expected). The same went for the GeneratePDFOutput which suffered from the same "disease"
    4) Missing Font
    Since the original project was developed on a Windows 2003 server, I had to change a couple of fonts (namely, the "Times New Roman" one) in a form since this font does not exist under Linux by default (and I did not want to spend a lot of time by importing the missing fonts into the Linux box)
    5) Import issue
    I had a process who got incorrectly imported into the new LCES2 environment; by "incorrectly imported" I mean there are some operations (which existed in the LCES 8.2 one) which have not been imported into LCES2. I've still to fix it but I think a simple XML export from LCES WB + Import *might* fix it.
    If you have suggestions/opinions, please let me know.

    In the Region Inspector on the left of your Arrange you find a little box labeled "follow tempo" - if you untick that box the Audio will play at the original speed.
