Photostream uploads photos automatically even on mobile cellular connection?

i have installed photostream on ipad 3 v 5.1.1  and windows 7.  ( Ignoring the problem that my ipad chooses to use up my mobile data card even when i am in the house with my broadband wifi connection ) I just took a picture with the ipad on cellular and it uploaded to my PC which is connected on wif taking a sizeable chunk of my data allowance.  According to all i read it should not do this. Is there a setting to stop it uploading photos when on a cellular connection?

Welcome to the Apple community.
Photostream won't use cellular data, there are no settings to turn it on or off, it is always off.

  • Upload Photos automatically to icloud (beta)

    HI
I recently turned on upload photos automatically to I cloud (beta) by mistake. On doing so I noticed that all my photos were disappearing so I immediately turned it back of and assumed that I could just go on to I cloud and they would be there. I have tried logging on to I cloud and checked my devices and the photos are not there. Can anyone help me to find there photos that have disappeared or where can I access them..
    Thanks Amanda

    Hello Lana Alana,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
If you are using the iCloud Photo Library beta, then your items are automatically being stored and uploaded to iCloud.  Take a look at the information outlined below to learn more.
Can I use iCloud Photo Library to back up my Photo Library instead of iCloud Backup or iTunes?
Yes. If you turn on iCloud Photo Library, it will automatically upload and store all of your photos and videos from any of your devices that are using iCloud Photo Library. iCloud Photo Library won't be part of the iCloud Backup, because it's already storing all your photos and videos in iCloud.

    Correct.
On an iOS device, new photos you take will be automatically uploaded to your photo stream when you leave the Camera app and are connected to Wi-Fi. Note: My Photo Stream does not push photos over cellular connections.

  • Unable to upload photos from photostream to FB

this has never worked right for me, but since the icloud update, my work around is no longer working. When I go to upload a photostream photo to my FB page, I can not select it.
The photo is there, in photostream, but now, after the update and the new way the pics are organized, they no longer are named (albeit automatically)
I used to be able to type the name in the file name blank and then it would let me select it
I am using google chrome, and I have tried safari also with same results
Windows 7, all latest updates on all aforementioned software
    anyone else?
My new work around is using snip-it tool and saving it to desktop but ***???

    You're welcome.
It is needed by the FaceBook app in order to upload photos with the app. You need it on for the apps that require location services in order to use the app or to use the location services function included with the app. You don't necessarily need it on for every app - that is up to you.
The arrow in the menu bar means location services is being actively used by an app.
The arrow next to an app at Settings > Location Services means the app has requested your location within the last 24 hours.

  • PhotoStream uploading my photos to Windows servers!

    Hi,
I have found one thing which really upset me.
Some process uploads big amount of data so my network connection start behaving slower, but I discover, that it is PhotoStream uploading my photos to Windows (Azure Storage) server!!
Here you can see established connection:
    cyberdelia:~ mcmelik$ lsof -i | grep window
    PhotoStre  2567 mcmelik   49u  IPv4 0x74d7a0a63ac45bf      0t0  TCP 10.0.0.5:59604->blob.db3prdstr07a.store.core.windows.net:https (ESTABLISHED)
Can please someone tell me what the **** is going on there? I have no M$ application on my Mac. Even if I turn off photostream upload in iPhoto, it is still sending data.
Im not aware of sharing photo stream with someone on PC, but if so, why are my photos uploaded directly to some Windows servers?
    Thank you for explanation

  • HT201302 how can i delete photos from my iphone after uploading in Iphoto even if i say not to keep on phone

how can i delete photos from my iphone after uploading in Iphoto even if i say not to keep on phone

    Hello paolo@spring,
Just as photos that were taken more than 30 days ago remain on your MacBook Air, so will photos that are deleted from your iPhone.
Photos in My Photo Stream are saved on the iCloud server for 30 days.
Because your Mac and PC have more storage than your iOS devices, you can choose to download all of your My Photo Stream photos automatically.
In iPhoto or Aperture preferences on your Mac, select Photos (or Photo Stream) > My Photo Stream > Automatic Import. All of your photo stream photos will import into your Events, Projects, Photos, Faces, and Places folders in iPhoto or Aperture.

Hey Sierra, You can do just what you have stated. My question, what is your "other"? If it is over 1.5 GB you most likely have corrupt files. Doing a Restore to New, Factory restore should correct it. Just make sure you make a full backup of all information on your iPod to your computer before you restore, so you don't lose your stuff, contacts, videos, pictures, non-iTunes music, etc, use the cable and connect with your computer. Then, via cable, connect to your computer, run the Restore to new, don't use your backup. Treat this iPod as if it was your first one ever. When restore is done, set up and add what info you wish to install on this iPod. The music apps etc you purchased should be on your computer, if not you should be able to retrieve purchased apps and music from iTunes. Any music, videos, apps not purchased from iTunes will be lost to you if you do not save them to your computer or the cloud first. When your done, make a current Backup and you should good to go. Hope this helps. Good luck. Cheers.

  • I uploaded photos in .jpg format to my iPad, but now all of those photos appear as .ithmb files and cannot be opened, even on the thumbdrive they originated from. How do I get them back to .jpgs?

I uploaded photos in .jpg format to my iPad, but now all of those photos appear as .ithmb files and cannot be opened, even on the thumbdrive they originated from. How do I get them back to .jpgs?

Sorry, should've mentioned some more information. I synced the ipad to the folder of photos. The original photos had file names like "_MG_4865.jpg" and after syncing the folder in Itunes, all files were now found in a folder called "iPod Photo Cache" which was filled with many folders with labels like "F23" etc. (There were ALOT of photos.) In those folders there are several files with names like "T343.ithmb". Not a .jpg to be found and I can't view any of the photos.

  • HT201317 I can't get photostreaming to stop downloading even tho I deleted photos and turned off. It's using my data minutes and I'm over my usage because its always downloading mode

I can't get photostreaming to stop downloading even tho I deleted all photos and turned off. It is always in downloading mode. It's using my data minutes

    Okay, I figured it out.
I would clear the cache while the page was still being viewed in a window, and for some reason that didn't actually clear the cache. So that's the browser's being a good little browser, but it's annoying because it should clear everything.
iWeb also has a problem in that is tells pages to cache forever, so the browsers are only doing what they're told.
Close the window, clear the cache, good to go.

  • Can't upload photos to mobile me gallery

The first one went through ok, now after several minutes I get a message that says it could not be uploaded, no reason or error code.
I also can't seem to log in to mobile me, I just keep getting the same page wanting me to set it up, which is already done. What am I missing here?

    HI and welcome..
I also can't seem to log in to mobile me
Tap Settings / Safari. Clear the Cache, Cookies and History. Restart your iPad. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPad. To turn iPad back on, press and hold the Sleep/Wake until the Apple logo appears.
Now try logging in to MobileMe on your iPad then try uploading photos.
If you can login to MMe but not upload photos, follow the instructions here for deleting the cache.
iTunes: Photo sync creates iPod Photo Cache folder
If you would take a moment and click *My Settings* on the right side of this page and tell us which computer model you use and which operating system. Thanks!

  • HT201317 Unable to see uploaded photos on photostream

I have set up my iPad 2 and my PC desktop. I manually uploaded photo to photo stream, but am unable to see photo from iPad.  Any ideas?

Great tips, all, 99jon, @dj_paige, and @JimHess. Appreciate the help. Ran through each of these steps, which I should have mentioned. Here are a couple of notes:
Not a smart collection. Just a simple collection that I created and added photos into.
None of the images have been moved. Is there a way to see where the source images are stored? I backed up the images on an external so it crossed my mind that somehow the collection is referenced externally...but I'm not sure how I can even see where the collection itself is stored.
Toggled on/off both the No Filters and Filters Off features. There are definitely no filters on...
    Thanks again.

  • HT201317 is there a way to upload photos from photostream to iPhoto?

My iphone died- had to replace it, and hadn't uploaded photos. They are on my ipad's photostream, but they aren't seen by iPhoto. Is there a way to force upload?

If any of the photo stream photos are over 30 days old, they are no longer in your photo stream, which would explain why iPhoto can't see them.  (After photo strem 30 days photos are deleted from your photo stream but not from any device that already has them, which is why they may still be on your iPad but not be in your photo stream.)
You could still save the photo stream photos to your camer roll (open your photo stream album on your iPhone in the thumbnail view, tap Edit, tap all the photos to select them, tap Share, then tap Save to Camera Roll), then import them to iPhoto (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083) and sync them to your replacement phone by selecting them on the Photos tab of your iTunes sync settings and syncing.  Another option is to use an app like PhotoSync to wirelessly transfer photos from your iPad's photo stream folder to your computer and/or your replacement phone.
