PhotoStreamed pictures hasn't GPS metadata

Hi,
I use iPhoto 11 on late 2012 iMac, and my daughter use it on MBPR. She is now in different country (even differnt continent) and she use her Nikon for everyday snapshots of her life. When she wants to send us (parents) some photos, she always do that through iPhoto - > Photo Stream, after importing pictures from camera.
Nikon has GPS ability and it works fine. She always has geotagged pictures locations, and she always see it in iPhoto->Places on her MBPR.
Problem we can't solve is: when she share her photos from Nikon through PhotoStream in iPhoto on my Mac I didn't see location (there is no existing GPS location in metadata).  I checked this in both iPhoto and Aperture.
BUT, if she share photos she took with her iPhone, every single photo shared through PhotoStream HAS GPS location in metadata.
Is there a way to fix this situation?
Thanks

I'm unable to repro this issue on my mac PPC with the test files I have at home.
Please file a bug and attach a 2-3 raw files(before /after) which show the issue.

  • How to view GPS metadata in preview?

    Hi!
It seems possible to view metadata in Preview by opening a file, hitting cmd+I and selecting GPS (sorry, it is in Italian – http://apple.hdblog.it/2010/08/23/come-accedere-a-tante-informazioni-delle-foto- fatte-con-iphone-tramite-anteprima/). But it seems not working with me... Anyway... can I see GPS metadata on Photos or somewhere else? In Photos I can see the position, but not the GPS data... and in Preview I don't have the GPS palette, as you see from the picture.
Thank you very much in advance!
    Regards
    S.

You will only see the GPS tab if there is actual GPS metadata. If the tab is not showing, the file does not have GPS location data.
By default, when you export from Photos, it does not include the GPS position data. You can enable that in Photos Preferences, General tab.

  • GPS Metadata for Managed Images Bug

Alright this is really dumb. Aperture strips the GPS metadata for managed images on a version export, but does not for referenced files.
It just took me 4 hours to figure that out, ug. Metadata is sacred! Always preserve it.

My Aperture library uses managed masters.
I too discovered that if I performed *version exports* of geotagged masters the exported images did not retain the GPS data. The problem was the same regardless of whether the masters were .jpgs or RAW files. (Geotagging was performed with Maperture and Maperture Pro; the bug symptoms are the same regardless of which tool was used.)
Additionally, I discovered that if I performed *master exports*, then not only were the geotags retained in the exported files, but that +reimporting those same exports resulted in new masters whose versions would subsequently retain their geotags on version export+.
    synonym wrote:
If you Relocate Masters... BEFORE you add GPS metadata using Maperture you don't lose any IPTC metadata. If you then Consolidate Masters... you can then apply GPS metadata to these images within your Aperture library and you will not lose IPTC or the GPS data on exporting the versions.
If I'm reading this correctly it sounds like you can "scrub" your library of the problem by relocating masters and then consolidating them again, and that subsequently applied geotags (and by inference IPTC metadata) will be retained on new version exports. Did I get that right?
However if you already have loads of images in your Aperture library that you have added GPS data to with Maperture and you also have loads of IPTC metadata on them and adjustments what do you do?
I did a backup of the library at this point to a vault. I then restored the vault and GPS data and IPTC metadata was all retained and was also all retained on exporting versions!
And if I'm reading the last sentence of your post correctly, it seems like the consistent behavior between our two situations is that if *images are brought into the library with geotags already in them* - in your case by library restoration and in my case by re-importation of previously geotagged masters - *then the geotags will be retained on subsequent master and version exports*.
Is that a valid conclusion to draw? If so, it sounds like I could workaround the problem of geotags missing from my version exports by either A) relocating and then consolidating my masters, or B) by the three-step process of:
    1) geotagging my images,
    2) updating the vault, and then
    3) restoring my library from the vault.

  • Restore photostream pictures from AppleTV to MacBookPro?

I had to rebuild my macbook pro this weekend.  There are pictures that i have uploaded to a PhotoStream that I can see on my AppleTV.  However, they are older than 30 days.  So when i started up iPhoto on the mac, those pictures are not showing up in the PhotoStream---but i would like to have copies of them back!  Is it possible to restore those photostream pictures from my AppleTV onto my Mac?

You cannot selectively restore some of the iCloud content and not other content. When you restore it is all or nothing and when you do restore any data you created since the backup was made will be lost.  The iCloud backup contains camera roll photos. To restore read http://support.apple.com/kb/ph12521

  • Howto Extract Exif GPS Metadata from JPEG?

    Hi,
i want to extract GPS Metadata from a JPEG.
The JPEG is a photo taken with an HP iPAQ hw6900 PDA.
Serveral application like exif-o-matic can extract the GPS latitude/longitude metadata.
As described in the Oracle interMedia/Multimedia Userguide "Chapter 6 - Working with Metadata" i use a pl/sql procedure to extract these metadata.
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/appdev.111/b28415/ch_metadata.htm#CIAEFDGH
I insert a row and extract the metadata but in the exif xml column there are no gps metadata only width/height and so on.
How do i extract these informations?

I got an XML document with no GPS metadata.
With "select p.image.getMetadata('exif') from photos p where id = xx;" i got sys.xmltype(sys.xmltype)
and with "select p.metaexif.extract('/').getStringVal() from photos p where id = xx;" I got an xml string like these
    <exifMetadata xmlns="http://xmlns.oracle.com/ord/meta/exif" xsi:schemaLocation="http://xmlns.oracle.com/ord/meta/exif http://xmlns.oracle.com/ord/meta/exif" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">

  • GPS Metadata filter

I imported a few photos to experiment and added GPS data to some. After adding location to some photos the metadata filter list for GPS Location shows
    All (2 GPS Locations)  53
    Current Map Region 14
    Location A     14
This just seems wrong, the numbers do not add up. With the label filter I see
    All (2 Labels)  53
    Red      10
    No Label 43
This makes sense as having an entry for No Label makes the numbers add up.
Why is there not an entry for No Location in the GPS metadata filter list ?
It would certainly seem simpler than having to create a smart collection, which does allow filtering on No GPS Data

Oh I had not noticed that there are 2 separate metadata filters for GSP data. GPS Data being any/none and GPS Location only allowing filtering of specific locations.
It seems odd to me to have these as separate filter lists

  • HT201317 Once photostream pictures are downloaded onto my mac will they stay in iPhoto forever after i have deleted them off of my phone?

Once photostream pictures are downloaded onto my mac will they stay in iPhoto forever after i have deleted them off of my phone?

When I synced my iPhone I my Mac , it automatically created a file called photo stream and imported all photos from phone into that file on my Mac.
Do you mean the "Photo Stream" album in the "Web" section of iPhoto? Like shown here?
If that is the only place where you are seeing your photos, in "my Photo Stream" in the "Web" section of Photo, then you need to copy these photos to an event to import them into the library.
The Photo Stream album is only showing you what currently can be imported from iCloud, and the photos will vanish after a month, so you are having a limited time to grab them.
If you have enabled "Automatic Import" in iPhoto's Photo Stream Preferences, it should already have created an event "July Photo Stream" and other monthly events with the photos from the streams. What find in these monthly events has been savely imported.

  • GPS Metadata dose not show full accuracy

Is there a way to show the full GPS coordinate data in the metadata?
In Nikon ViewNX it shows one of the coordinates as S23d 19m 15.23s from my image while Lightroom 4.2 only shows 32d 19m 15s.  The 0.23seconds is missing in LR4.  The data must be there as I have images that are shown in different positions on the map but the GPS metadata is the same.  Since the full data is not sown in LR4 the metadata cannot be accurately copied from one image to another.

A number of people have complained about LR's lack of precision for GPS coordinates:

  • GPS Metadata missing in Bridge

I have a problem with seeing GPS metadata in Bridge CS2.  I use a Gisteq datalogger to add GPS data to my DNG files and it writes the data to the associated XMP file. I can see it there if I open the XMP in Notepad.  If I view the file in Bridge, the GPS fields are blank.  I have set preferences to display all metadata fields even if blank. Is this a bug?

I just solved the problem myself. I am using Gisteq Phototracker Pro to add GPS data.  It works OK when a add the GPS data to a JPG.  I can view the GPS data in Bridge.  When I use a DNG file, I converted directly to a DNG in Bridge from the RAW file but did not do anything else with it. I then used Phototracker which created the XMP file with the GPS data in it.  There was no XMP file until then. I could see the GPS data in the XMP in Notepad but Bridge did not see it.
I picked up the DNG file in Bridge and changed some settings in Camera Raw and resaved the DNG.  It could then see the GPS data in Bridge.  Bridge did not know the XMP had been associated with the DNG after Phototracker had created it until I did something with it in Bridge.

  • GPS Metadata Won't Export With Master?

I've exported a master and a jpg version of the same photo that has GPS data from Places on it from A3 and imported to into LR2.
The jpg arrived with GPS metadata but the master did not. I double checked A3 is set to include the IPTC data set on export and for good measure I re-exported other GPSed photos and checked them in Preview in case LR2 was doing something to the GPS data. Same results in Preview.
A3 isn't letting you take masters out with GPS intact AFAIK. Anyone see this?

Yes, I'm experiencing the same problem. GPS info is exported with the jpeg but not with the master.
I think A3 is only using the internal places database to store the GPS info and it gets written to the jpg only when exporting (and assuming you've selected to export locaton info), in the same way as it happens with Iphoto.
The logical workflow should be to write everything (IPTC, GPS and date) into the master when selecting update master metadata, or at the very least to have a choice of which of the above to include in the metadata update.
Right now the only way to ensure that all masters are properly GPS tagged is to use an external GPS editor such as houdageo, however this only works in Aperture 3 with referenced files.

  • Import GPS metadata info into Lightroom

How do I import GPS metadata info into Lightroom from either my camera or from disk?  I'm using lightroom 3.2.  It shows up in CS5 Bridge, why not in Lightroom?
    oracle 52

I downloaded the plug-in and used the metadata file preset for geo-tagging plus all the others in Adobe Lightroom 3 prior to "import" using the "Add" submenu.  Only under the geo-tagging preset in Metadata did I see the "labels" of latitude, longitude, etc.  However, the metadata for each of the photos for these labels were blank.  Yet, when viewing these photos on Nikon VX from which the photos was imported shows the correct GPS coordinates.  Why isn't this data being displayed in Lightroom as it appears from the original file on my hard drive?

    Buy this:
    http://www.fastpictureviewer.com/codecs/
and install it. It's relatively cheap. Screen shot is from Windows Explorer.
Handles ID, PSD, etc., files as well. Though the preview uses greeked text for the most part for the ID files.

  • GPS Metadata

Is there a way to copy GPS metadata from 1 image to many others?  I'm putting in GPS data manually using the Metadata Placard.  The Import/Export metadata templates does not copy the GPS data.  Thanks

Is there a way to photostream pictures from two separate iCloud accounts (two iphones that I own) to the same mac, for simultaneous display in iPhoto?

On a Mac, PhoneView is one option (I've been happily using for a year or two). TouchCopy is another (have not heard anything negative about it).
You'll only get back the low-res versions that were downsized when synced to the phone, but better than nothing.
