Hi everybody:
I am new in PHP and want to use my best editing friend
Dreamweaver. But I need a communty that helps me about PHP (with or
without DW help because I think I know DW well enough after 7 years
using that). Do you know any good PHP community that helps me start
it as a novice? Some good community as adobe (former dear
Macromedia) communities are.

There are quite a few people here who are knowledgeable about
PHP,
particularly in the Dreamweaver context. So this is
definitely one place
that you should put on your list.
If you're new to PHP, you may find my book "Foundation PHP
for
Dreamweaver 8" helpful. In addition to showing you how all
the
Dreamweaver server behaviors work, it teaches a solid
foundation of
understanding PHP. Dreamweaver does a lot of automatic code
generation,
but it can't do everything, so it's useful to know how to
tweak the code
to your own requirements.

Common utility library for multiple websites (PHP/Dreamweaver)?

I am working on several PHP-based websites, and would like to
use the same utilities in
them all. The local directories for the individual websites
are all subdirectories of the
website D: Websites.
I could fairly readily put the utilities in a website D:
Websites/Utilities, put a copy of
this directory in the root directory of each website on the
server, and tell PHP to load
the utilities from the correct place, according to whether
I'm running on the local or the
remote server, but Dreamweaver does not seem to have any
provision which would allow me to
use it to upload new versions of the utilities from the
Common local area to the remote
servers. Is there any way to do this, or will I have to write
a special PHP utility?

Dreamweaver is site based, and it works on the assumption
that the site
folder is the server root. This was appropriate in the early
days of
Dreamweaver when sites were created with static HTML and
everything
needed to be in the server root. It's less convenient when
building
dynamic sites that rely on libraries located outside the
server root.
Several beta testers have urged Adobe to improve the site
definition
setup so that libraries outside the server root can be easily
maintained
and uploaded from within Dreamweaver. Unfortunately, Adobe
has not
changed the way sites are defined to meet this increasingly
common
scenario. The more people who submit formal requests for this
to happen,

PHP & Dreamweaver 8

A client needs a image gallery on their site. I could do it
the old fashioned way and do up a page for every image, or I could
do it dynamic. Where would I start? I want to do it in PHP and want
to know where to start. Please I am just starting out with this and
would like to learn as much as I can, not just for this job but to
give my clients the choice to have forms, dynamic, etc....

I have the big project website that must be publish in june
2009.
So I have a lot of time now to learn it by myself.
I'm very new in the online. Which is the best of all if I
have to learn to do the website.
Cms I think its the easiest way for me and I love Drupal

How big is big is the questions? For a small site content

I would suggest you supply some more detailed information ie.
How many
pages? ecommerce? Lots of animation required?
As to how to learn, ask lots of questions and buy a good book
on HTML and
CSS. Dreamweaver, Expressions etc are good but cannot not
make up for a
knowledge of hand coding.
A good start are the templates supplied by Dreamweaver and by
Projectseven.com, try to grasp how and why things are done
and move from
there.
Both this and projectseven forums are good and full of
helpful people

PHP/Dreamweaver dynamic list menu

I have a mySQL DB that has address listings on it, I have
used the city column to populate a list menu dynamically w/ PHP...
No problems so far- but I cannot figure out how to have each city
listed only one time.
In other words, say I have 20 of the same city listed on the
DB column. I want each city to be listed once in the list menu....
Any idea??? I have been thinking about it all day w/ out any
luck!

Excel/PHP/dreamweaver prob has me stumped

I am building bar to show the daily goal and what they are at
all through the day.
I am basing it pretty much of this one:

The data that i want to pull from is on an Excel spreadsheet
that is updated through out the day and also gets data off of
mulitple other excel files. I just need to pull one # off that
spread sheet and put it so it will automatically update the
barchart.
If im not mistaken there is a string i can enter to pull from
the excel spreadsheet field, am i correct?
If not would it be easier to make a little page where the
management could enter a number and it directly update the
barchart??

You can do that one, but PHP has much greater options when
dealing with
graphics.
You might look into PHP GDI manipulation - you could easily
create a bar
graphic with a percentage of it colored - or two graphics and
put them side
by side, with their sum total = 100 pix and setting their
width as 33px vs.
67 px or something of that nature.
With your excel file, though, I thought that link provided
would probably
help you more fully utilize PHP and displaying your data.

It is quite easy to do simple things with CSS, but it's very
powerful,
and has a long learning curve. Keep at it, and you'll get

I'm not a big fan of ADDT (Adobe knows my opinions, because I
have told
them directly). I would like to see how ADDT develops before
committing
to writing about it. As for ColdFusion, I experimented with

Dreamweaver crashed by opening a PHP-File

Since two days I can't oen any php-Files. If I will open a File with the extension .php Dreamweaver crashed. What can I do? I search for a soluten now more then one day.

If you are using MAC os then go to : "/Users/Your User Name/Library/Application Support/Adobe" and rename the Dreamweaver folder to old_Dreamweaver_(version)
and if you are windows then go to : "C:\Users\(Your User Name)\AppData\Roaming\Adobe" and rename the Dreamweaver folder to Old_Dreamweaver_(version)

then try to launch the product with the php file and check.

Inserting special character like apostrophes with PHP/Mysql

I have a problem with php/mysql. I have created a form inton a php page with dreamweaver and when i try to fill the form with a string containing apostrophe ( ' ), i have a error. Need alternative to WebAssist for DreamWeaver

I refuse to spend $800 on Webassist Super Suite. Anyone know of any affordable PHP DreamWeaver CS3 extensions? Or a reference site with Cut and Paste PHP code?
A good Forum would be nice to find also!

If you do not get a more specific answer you want here, consider the following.
(1) If your iSight works properly (and reliably) with other Macs, you may have found a problem with your MacPro rather than your iSight. If so, a new webcam may not fix your problem.
You can try any relevant suggestions from How to test your iSight to ensure it is functional to see if you can track down and fix your problem or determine that your MacPro needs professional service.
To assure you meet the considerable speed called for in iChat 4 System Requirements, be sure disconnect or turn off all other devices on your LAN while you test your broadband speed and troubleshoot.
Especially if you are using other Firewire devices or third-party AV software with your external iSight, pay particular attention to possible conflicts mentioned in the testing info. Even if you can get your iSight working properly with your MacPro, you may wish to use a USB cam for iChat if you must have Firewire devices that conflict with your iSight connected while you connect for video chats.

The comments about UVC cams apply equally to your Leopard Mac without adding any software. Complete support for UVC cams is included in the Mac OS itself after 10.4.8.

Any of the cams there will work with a 10.5.2 MacPro that is working properly.

Syntax error when adding variables in recordset (query)

Hi I am receiving a syntax error: invalid quantifier ++ $orderNum;s*?> when adding two variables in the recordset (query) dialog box. I get the error when clicking OK.
Here is what is entered:
name: fieldname
type: text
default: -1
runtime value: $_GET['Field']

Can anyone help with this?

That's a completely separate issue. The error message is telling you that you have not defined the testing server correctly in the Site Definition dialog box.
The Host directory field and URL prefix should both point to the same place, in other words, the root of your website. Host directory is the physical path, while URL prefix is the address you would put in a browser address bar.
Select Site > Manage Sites. Select the name of the site, and click the Edit button. In the Site Definition dialog box, select the Advanced tab, and then choose Testing server from the Category list on the left.
Depending on how your remote login works, Host directory should probably be public_html or just /. Use the same value as in the Remote server part of the Site Definition dialog box. The URL prefix should be http://gaylehansen.aisites.com/.

Apostrophe displays incorrectly in SQL database

MySQL, PHP, Dreamweaver CS4
I have a SQL database that has text fields. If the user enters text that includes an apostrophe (such as the word don't or it's), when the text is displayed on the website, the apostrophe is replaced by a small box. How can I get this character to display correctly? I had contacted Adobe support directly, and they said to post the question on DEVNET. I had posted this question a month ago, but have received no answers. So I am trying again.

The reason it's displayed as a small box is almost certainly because the user has pasted the text from a program like Word that uses "smart quotes". Depending on how your website is set up, it's likely that the smart quotes are not being encoded correctly.
The first thing to check is that all the pages in your website use UTF-8 encoding. If that doesn't fix the problem, you will need to filter the text before inserting it into the database to replace the smart quotes with ordinary ones. I don't have a handy snippet of code to do that, so see if the encoding sorts out the problem.

Swf gallery (Actionscript 3) won't play in Safari or IE, only FireFox

I have a flash gallery I created using Flash CS4 and Actionscript 3. It plays perfectly in FireFox, but in IE and Safari it just shows me a blank space on the page where the gallery should be. As a test I uninstalled Flash Player, and FireFox and Safari showed me the message that a newer version of Flash was needed along with a link to get it, but IE showed nothing. Now that Flash is re-installed, only FireFox actually loads/plays the gallery. With IE it doesn' tmatter if I use the 32-bit or 64-bit, or if compatibility mode is on or off. I tried republishing with Flash 9 set instead of Flash 10, but that made no difference. It fails with the HTML file generated out of Flash, as well as the page I created in Dreamweaver and used the Insert Media command to insert the .swf:

I'm using all the latest browsers, Windows 7 (64-bit), Dreamweaver and Flash CS4. A couple of years ago when I had CS3, I created a similar gallery using Actionscript 2, and it continues to work fine in all 3 browsers:

I'd appreciate any ideas to get this working in Safari and IE (not only the gallery to load, but the Flash Player detection to work properly in IE). I'm a very infrequent Flash user, so I was hoping it was something obvious, but I can't find the problem.
