Php / mysql discussion board recommendations

Most of the discussion boards I've seen on the internet are
1. way more than I need function wise 2. severely bloated 3.
difficult to integrate into existing design and database. Like most
things, I find it easier 99% of the time to develop my own apps
then try and mod / fix open source. However, if anyone has some
recommendations I'm willing to give them a try. I just want a very
simple discussion board that I can plug write into my existing css
layout.

You've obviously got very specific requirements and have done
prior
research.
I guess it would help if you indicate the names of solutions
you've already
checked out and have decided are not suitable e.g. phpBB?
Might just be me but I find it tough understanding what other
people mean by
value judgements such as way more than I need, severely
bloated etc.
Is this the site for which you need a simple forum?

  • Recommend PHP/MySQL Utility Application

    To save time, I am looking to purchase an application development software / toolbox compatible with php / mysql.  One of the functions I am looking for is a php file upload via form upload script. I know that DMX zone has separate program they sell.  Ideally, I would like a tool that does more than just one function and not with a high price tag.
    If you could recommend some products, it would be appreciated.

    When it comes to using a reasonably priced "no additional coding required" PHP/MySQL code generation software, I´ve always been very pleased with PHPMAKER -- however it should be mentioned that there are lots of other tools out there as well which might suit your needs better than this one, so just google for "php code generator" to get a general idea on what´s available.
    Cheers,
    Günter

  • If DW 2014.1 cc does not support database, binding, server behavior, and PHP/MySQL require it, but using Adobe Extensions Mngr IS NOT recommended, then WHAT TOOLS do we use to develop a database with DW?

    I'm using windows DW 2014.1 cc. I'm following lynda.com tutorials to build a website database with PHP and MySQL. I learned I have to download Adobe Extension Mngr to active DATABASE, BINDING, SERVER BEHAVIOR panels, which I've done. BUT NOW I'VE BEEN ADVISED NOT TO USE THESE TOOLS for new development. If this is the truly the case, then WHAT TOOLS DO I USE to develop a website that has a database?

    then WHAT TOOLS DO I USE to develop a website that has a database?
    Besides the tools you would already need for a system using server behaviors (web server, PHP, MySQL, phpMyAdmin) the only extra tool you need is your own brain.
    A lot of people are disappointed by the lack of database tools in DW now, but really it's much better this way. You can never achieve better than a rinky-dink dynamic website using server behaviors. The code Dreamweaver dynamic behaviors create is really terrible. (I'm not insulting the fine folks who wrote the feature. It's just a consequence of automated code.) You can write better, simpler, more maintainable code yourself, and over time you will improve. With server behaviors you cannot improve. you get stuck in database kindergarten.

  • Is There A Way To Have A Discussion Board On A Site I Make With iWeb?

    I was wondering if you could have a discussion board for people to post things on a site I made using iWeb.
    If it is possible, how would I do it?
    Thanks,
    Sam

    That's a yes and no answer…
    You can find generic discussion boards free on the web. They normally use mySQL and PHP. I don't think you'd be able to host the discussion board directly on your iDisk. It normally needs a bit of help from a friendly ISP to switch on some things at their end.
    But, you can host the discussion board on another server and have a link from your iWeb page.
    I hope that isn't too techie sounding and helps you. Good luck!

  • Discussion board subject links to replies

    We have discussion boards on Sharepoint 2013. When you use Management view (or any other custom view) all subject columns are not linking to items themselves, but list of replies instead (if there no replies, it's not showing anything).
    Why is this and how could I fix it? I would like to see the item itself when clicking the subject.

    Hi Kati,
    According to your description, my understanding is that you want to make the subject to link to the item itself in Management view in Discussion Board list.
    The Management view is the view for Admins to see the Reply statistics for this discussion.
    If we click a subject in this view, it will go to the management view of the subject; And if we click a reply, it will go to the reply item view page.
    As we need to get all the replies for the discussion in the Management view, so it is by design that if we click a subject in the Management view, then it will go to the Management view of this discussion.
    So if you want to view the subject in Management view, then I recommend to click the View Item button in the ribbon to view the subject.
    Best regards.
    Thanks

  • Apache2, PHP, MySQL Help

    Hi,
    Sorry if this is a bit of a newbie thing todo but I am not too good with solaris configuration yet.
    Can anyone supply a decent step by step and easy tutorial/how-to on how to set up Apache, PHP, MySQL and PHPmyadmin on a SPARC solaris 10 box please...
    Thanks Rob

    Can anyone supply a decent step by step and easy
    tutorial/how-to on how to set up Apache, PHP, MySQL
    and PHPmyadmin on a SPARC solaris 10 box please...Setting up Apache is very easy since all it takes is setting it up. Its installed by default, you can check /etc/apache for an example configuration file. Next to that www.apache.org/docs/ is also a very valuable read.
    <blunt SPAM>
    You could also consider looking into the Java webserver (formely SunONE). Its currently being made available for free with the Java Enterprise System and compares very well to Apache. If you'll also be doing some Java it would be a better choice (IMO its a better choice than Tomcat) and it can also do PHP.

    http://www.php.net/
    </SPAM>
    As you'll note I included the PHP website because with the above setup you'd also need to manually setup PHP. If you have the companion CD present you can install the PHP module which will end up on /opt/sfw/apache. This directory will also present you a php.ini example which will need to be placed in /etc/apache as well. Setting it up is basicly following the documentation in the ini file, and the Apache documentation on adding an extra module (/opt/sfw/apache/libexec/libphp4.so).
    MySQL. Also very easy since its shipped with Solaris as well. Look into /etc/sfw/mysql for a README which covers the most essential steps to set it up. In short you'll need to setup a few directories for MySQL to work and optionally (but recommended) copy the default config file to /etc (/etc/my.cnf) which will define certain basic settings. The readme explains. Next you're likely to need the MySQL guide (if you're new with MySQL) which can be located at http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/4.1/en/index.html.
    This applies to the version (close enough anyway) which is shipped with Solaris. From personal experience I can say that MySQL 5 will also run very well on Solaris 10.
    Finally the PHPMyadmin... That really is an RTFM issue, once you have your environment setup (Apache and the likes) its likely you only need to copy it to your document root and point your browser to it.
    Hopes this helps somewhat.

  • PHP/MySql Error Message

    I've posted this before and didn't get the answer that I need, probably because I didn't post all of my codes. I am using PHP/MySql.  I created a website that has several forms.  When I process three of the forms, I get the error messages below:
    You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'Condition, Length, Color, City, `State`, Email, Photo) VALUES ('29', '4', 'Used'' at line 1.
    Below I am posting the codes.  Hopefully, this time I posted everything that I should have so that I can get assistance.

    Hi David,
    I did as you recommended. For good measure, I even changed the case of the letters to make sure that they coincide with exactly what's in the database.  I still kept getting the same error message.  So I deleted the recordset and attempted to recreate it.  When I attempted to recreate the record set, I got the following error message: "RangeError: invalid array length".  My codes are listed below:

  • Apache php mysql mac 10.4.8 client

    does anyone know the version of php mysql and apache on 10.4.8 if it's shipped with osx and how to upgrade them
      Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    mysql is not shipped... unless youre talking about osx server then it may be.
    php is 4.4.1 and the path is /usr/bin/php and /usr/lib/php
    apache is 1.3.33 and the relevant paths are /usr/libexec/httpd and /usr/sbin
    I wouldnt reommmend upgrading any of them because its possible they could be broken by future system updates, although i dont specifically know of this ever happening. but for development purpouses its better to isolate your environment. Instead of upgrading the system versions i would recommend installing the versions you wish into /usr/local and jsut setting things up to run from there. Marc Lyiange's php packages do this for you by default (www.entropy.ch). MySQL also comes as a mac binary and installs into /usr/local. As for Apache that will require some configuration What i would do is install it into usr/local. Then i would rename /usr/sbin/httpd to /usr/sbin/httpd-1.3.33 and /usr/sbin/apachectl to /usr/sbin/apachectl-1.3.33. then make symlinks to /usr/local/apachedir/bin/apachectl and /usr/local/bin/httpd to /usr/sbin/httpd and /usr/sbin/apachectl.
    Of course you could always change the appropriate plists to just run your version of apache but i dont know what those are off hand. For what its worth unless you need a particular module thats not supported on 1.3.33 i wouldnt even mees with apache 2.0. its jsut not worth the effort in my opinion.

  • How to update PHP, MySQL or Apache

    The Mac OS X 10.6.2 system does not include the latest versions of PHP, MySQL or Apache.
    What is the recommended update procedure for PHP, MySQL or Apache:
    a) automatically by Mac OS X system (is this possible?) or
    b) manually by the administrator (are there any documentations?)
    Many thanks.
    Actual system versions:
    Mac OS X 10.6.2
    MySQL 5.0.82
    Apache 2.2

    Hi, Thanks for your answer.
    That sounds Apple do not seriously release updates of third party packages shipped with the system (like Apache, mySQL ...) very often.
    To use month or year old packages in a web environment is a big risk, e.g. mySQL actual official version is V5.50 / mySQL Version shipped and updated by Mac OS X 10.6.2 Server is V5.0.82).
    The same with Apache and PHP, both are packages included in Mac OS X Snow Leopard Server product by Apple and are included in a old version.
    And when manually updates by the administrator of the server system do not work well or are not supported by the OS X Server system (as I understand your posting), the administrator can not act to improve and secure the system.
    That can only lead to one conclusion: Apple's Mac OS X Snow Leopard Server should not be used in a productive, internet faced web environment.
    Is this true? I do not want to believe this!?
    Is there really no official supported or documented procedure by Apple to keep the integrated third party components updated?
    I'd like to prefer Mac OS X Server odd Linux distribution because it seems more handy to administrate and to use, e.g. tools like Server Admin. These tools are an advantage of Mac OS X Server.

  • Php/mysql ajax toggle div

    Hi,
    I have recently started using ajax in my pages, and I am very impressed!
    But my skills have not yet developed and I am using a code snippet off the internet to do what I want.
    I have a hidden div tag called photo to which I want to load images into
    I have a link tag with an ID of the "album name"
    I want to call the div by clicking on the link and have the div animate down with a do while loop consisting of the images in that "album name"
    Here is my code:
    AJAX
    window.addEvent('domready', function(){
        var mySlide3 = new Fx.Slide('photo');
        mySlide3.hide();
        $('<?php echo $row_listAlbumPhotos['album_name'];?>').addEvent('click', function(e){
            e = new Event(e);
            mySlide3.toggle();
            e.stop();
    PHP
    <?php do { ?>
        <table border="0" cellpadding="5" cellspacing="5" >
          <tr>
            <?php
    $listAlbumPhotos_endRow = 0;
    $listAlbumPhotos_columns = 4; // number of columns
    $listAlbumPhotos_hloopRow1 = 0; // first row flag
    do {
        if($listAlbumPhotos_endRow == 0  && $listAlbumPhotos_hloopRow1++ != 0) echo "<tr>";
       ?>
            <td><div class="AlbumNameText"><a href="#" id="<?php echo $row_listAlbumPhotos['album_name']; ?>"><?php echo $row_listAlbumPhotos['album_name']; ?></a></div></td>
            <?php  $listAlbumPhotos_endRow++;
    if($listAlbumPhotos_endRow >= $listAlbumPhotos_columns) {
      ?>
          </tr>
          <?php
    $listAlbumPhotos_endRow = 0;
    } while ($row_listAlbumPhotos = mysql_fetch_assoc($listAlbumPhotos));
    if($listAlbumPhotos_endRow != 0) {
    while ($listAlbumPhotos_endRow < $listAlbumPhotos_columns) {
        echo("<td> </td>");
        $listAlbumPhotos_endRow++;
    echo("</tr>");
    }?>
        </table>
      <?php } while ($row_listAlbumPhotos = mysql_fetch_assoc($listAlbumPhotos)); ?>
    HTML
    <div id="photo">
    This is a test
    <br />
    </div>
    Currently this works for the first record found.
    I have setup two albums "Friends" and "Other"
    Currently Other is not accepting <a href="#" id="<?php echo $row_listAlbumPhotos['album_name'];  ?>"> the ID or the Ajax is not allowing the ID
    I'm not sure which. Can anyone help me?

    Take a look at this list:
    http://www.hotscripts.com/PHP/Scripts_and_Programs/Calendars/index.html
    Ignore the first few that have a colored background because
    those are paid resources, but the rest will do what you want.
    One note to mention on this subject is that there are
    combination scripts, PHPiCalendar being the most notable, that
    allow you to use a stand alone calendar application like iCal
    (Mac), Windows Calendar (only in Vista), or Sunbird (from Mozilla,
    Win or Mac). From those programs you could publish the calendar.
    All you would need to do is edit the template files in that script
    and then your users can publish from easy applications they know
    over a calendar app based entirely on PHP/mySQL.
    This is not say there are not good solutions, but this is
    just an observation. Also if you are using a forum, most forum
    software (ie: Invsion Power Board, vBulletin, Simple Machines Forum
    (SMF), etc) all have built in calendar scripts that are tied into
    the forum software. So that might be another avenue to consider.
    But if you just need a stand-alone app, then check out that
    list. There are some pretty good scripts there.

  • Dreamweaver PHP/mySQL poll problem?

    Hi,
    I'm a PHP/mySQL noob who's using some of Dreamweaver's 8
    (8.2) out-of-box Update server behaviors to update a database of
    results for a poll. I know there's a lot of free polling apps out
    there but I need to have the poll show up in another page as
    opposed to being refreshed/displayed in the same page/content area.
    I've successfully built the backend in phpMyAdmin and I'm
    able to list the database contents and do basic updates to the poll
    questions and answers. However, I've been unable to pass an
    incremented result value via a Dreamweaver radio button group
    (which is the normal poll format) without previous unselected
    results being overwritten.
    When an answer is selected the result is indeed incremented
    and is displayed in the Result Listing but unfortunately it also
    overwrites any preexisting data for that poll and replaces it with
    zero. For example:
    Question:
    Answer a) 0
    Answer b) 0
    Answer c) 1 (this would be the value that was selected)
    Answer d) 0
    If c is selected again the value is stored and incremented
    and the value is now 2. However, if that value is not selected,
    then another value is incremented and c would be wiped. I've even
    resorted to trying to use javascript to maintain the original state
    but to no avail I was just previously incrementing the inline php
    radio button value and/or assigning different names to each of the
    radio buttons. This, of course, allows people to select multiple
    values which runs contrary to the whole idea behind radio buttons,
    but I thought I'd see if that worked . Anyway, when the radio group
    is assigned the same value it merely increments everything.
    example:
    http://www.dailydatum.com/funFacts/funFactsListingSingleUpdate15.php
    As you can see, i'm up to version 15 and gritting me teeth,
    lol. Any help would be mighty appreciated.
    Mario

    hi ,
    you can always try the macromedia devnet sites , they have
    ongoing tutorials and discussions on all areas, including php with
    dreamweaver8.
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/topics/php.html
    be aware though that some of the tutorials require the use of
    third party php extensions, like interakt products, which is a
    shame because most of them are expensive to buy. But they are still
    worth a read.
    hope this is some help.
    ted.

  • Multipe discussion boards within one site collection, each with their own email?

    So we use several list servs and these have become an issue and the data is lost discussion based on you cannot collectively house and search for information and attachments.
    I have a few questions that maybe you could help in my research:
    1) Is SharePoint discussions capable of having multiple discussion boards in one site collection, each with their own email address to replace the function of a list serv (so at a minimum content can be organized, with attachments available, and replies
    can be seen/sent via email.)
    2) From an attachment perspective; what is the best way to ensure virus blocking in the above scenario IF the above scenario is able to be done
    3) Is there OOTB functionality here or is there a recommended third party product? (I am not looking to build out a custom solution if at all possible to avoid that)
    any thoughts or input here would be greatly appreciated!
    ~Kat

    1) - Yes, discussion boards are just specially formatted lists and yes, each discussion board can have their own email address.
    2) -  Blocked file types can be configured in CA and I believe that SP will strip out any emails with blocked file types attached (not 100% on that, probably 95% sure)
    3) All out of the box (assuming SP will block the attachments as I assumed in #2

  • DocIcons displaying incorrectly on Discussion Board web part

    We are seeing some odd behaviour when adding an attachment to a Discussion Board post.  It looks like the sprite sheet (or DocIcons) are displaying incorrectly.  Screenshot below:
    Thanks for any help.
    Casey

    Hi Casey,
    I tested the same scenario per your post in my environment, however the image displayed in the subject view of the discussion board list was shown as below:
    It is by design that SharePoint uses this image for displaying in the subject view for the discussion board list.
    From the image in your post, it seems that the image displayed in your list has been changed by the customization.
    Was there any customization on the subject view of the discussion board list?
    To narrow the issue scope, I recommend to create a new discussion board list to see if the issue still occurs.
    Thanks,
    Victoria
