Physical keyboard is qwerty on an azerty asus transformer, only in firefox

on an azerty asus transformer (Belgian model), the physical keyboard behaves in firefox as a qwerty keyboard regardless of the locale.
This only happens on firefox, and the virtual keyboard behaves normally.
Is there something that I should configure ?
Thanks,
Rémi

Hey Rémi
Thanks for reporting this. There is currently an [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=669361 open bug] investigating this issue. I'm not sure if there's a workaround at the moment. It would be best to follow activity in the bug report if one is posted.
Thanks,
Aaron

  • Yoga 13 - On-screen Keyboard Randomly Popping Up When Using Physical Keyboard?

While in laptop mode, and typing on the built-in physical keyboard or a keyboard attached via USB, the on-screen keyboard will randomly pop up, taking away focus (particularly noticeable when using extended desktop on an external display) and eating up half of the screen real estate.  As soon as I press the next key on the physical board, the on-screen keyboard minimizes itself.  Sometimes it will pop up when I'm not even touching the laptop!
Anyone else experience this and/or know how to stop it?  It's the only thing about this machine that drives me absolutely nuts.  It seems to be random.  I can't pin it down and haven't found any similar reports via Google search.
    Thanks in advance.

Disabling "OnScreen Keyboard (Lenovo Transition)" stopped it.  The solution is good enough for me, as I don't need the keyboard to pop up on its own anyway.  It'll pop up when I tap in a text-entry box, and that's all that matters.
Attempts to calibrate the screen were unsucecssful.  I can't say whether or not a screen calibration will stop the random pop-up issue because every time I calibrated the screen, it broke the right-side screen swipe that reveals the Charms Menu.  Resetting the screen calibration was the only way I could find to restore the right-side swipe function. This is quite unfortunate because, regardless of the fact that it broke my Charms swipe, my touchpoints were FAR more accurate after the calibration than before.
So now I have another problem.  I can't calibrate my screen for optimum accuracy without losing the convenience of the right-side swipe.
    Any ideas?

I am using windows 8.1 pro on my Japanese macbook pro (Late 2011) and enabled japanese language but the problem is that when i press caps lock (lower left corner) it changes the input method from english to japanese. I checked my on screen keyboard (OSK) in windows and its different from my physical keyboard i.e. keys are different on my physical keyboard compared to OSK. Can anyone help me?

  • How to restore Windows 8 from a recovery USB on a tablet w/o physical keyboard?

I bought a Lenovo IdeaPad tablet that came with Windows 8 Pro:
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product-and-parts/detail.page?DocID=PD026486
The first thing that I usually do is create a recovery disc. This time I was able to create a recovery USB drive. But then I thought of something -- how would I recover from it?
I asked at the Lenovo community site and people told me to connect a USB keyboard and press Fn + F12 during booting. The issue is that, first, I do not have a physical keyboard for it. Do I really need to pay $50+ just to boot from a USB drive? And
secondly, even if I got a physical keyboard this tablet has only one mini USB port so if I use it up to connect a USB keyboard, how would I connect the USB flash drive?
So can someone clarify this for me? Again, all I need to know is how to restore from a recovery USB drive.

    Hello Again Zubedi35!
Ok, I think I have it covered. First, you need a key to be able to proceed with the installation process. When you get a key, go online and download the windows 8 usb installer to be able to install a properly formatted
installation of windows 8 to your usb drive; make sure you use a windows 7 or windows 8 computer to format and install windows 8 to your usb- very important! Once you have windows 8 installed to your usb drive, all you need is the key and the installation
process on your pc will be a cinch. But before you get ready to do the installation of windows 8 to your desired computer, first you must do one thing- reformat your hard drive again. Since you said you have another computer (preferably a desktop), you may
place the hard drive from your laptop that you are trying to install windows 8 on and place that hard drive into the other computer- but you will need an external device to place the hard drive in to be able to reformat it if you don't have a desktop computer
with an extra bay (slot to put an extra hard drive into) to place the hard drive in and perform the reformatting. I would try to find someone with a desktop that has an extra bay to place that hard drive in and reformat it (it must be a computer with a windows
7 or 8 operating system on it so that you may be able to see the drive and perform the reformatting process. If you choose to do this, you must turn the desktop computer off and open the side of the computer then connect the hard drive to the sata connectors
of the open bay. Then, turn the computer back on and go to 'My Computer' (on windows 7 computer) or click the little folder (File Explorer) on the taskbar and look in 'Devices and Drives' and the hard drive should show up next to the main drive (Local
Disk C:). Formatting your hard drive is just like formatting your usb- just uses a different method of connecting. Try and purchase an external USB Disk Drive to install windows 8 to your pc from a CD if you choose not to go through this process of installation
by usb. I hope this helps and please notify me if you have any other questions or if you need help through the installation process- enjoy your Windows 8 computer!

  • Pathetic lack of 4G phones with no physical keyboard

I've been a Verizon customer since my first mobile phone and I was one of the first people to buy the original Droid when it launched, but the leaked news about the upcoming Droid 3 has me strongly leaning towards going with another carrier.  I find it baffling that the Droid 3 would come out right now and not be 4G enabled.  It hasn't even been released and it's already outdated, and yet Verizon will insist on sticking people with 2 year contracts for a phone that will never be able to connect to its fastest networks.  I've yet to hear of any other 4G phone that even MIGHT come to Verizon with a physical keyboard, an absolute 100% dealbreaker for me.  The loyal early adopters who jumped on the Android bandwagon and made it the juggernaut it is today come out of contract in July.  We want physical keyboards and we want cutting edge phones.  Where is the phone you think we're going to buy, Verizon?  Because everything else I've seen is a joke.

This has been a significant frustration for me as well.  I follow phones pretty closely and have kept up on all the rumors, leaks, and announcements on the various forums from BGR to droidforums and howardforums.  What is killing me is that there is not so much as an obfuscated indication that Verizon will have a 4g with a physical keyboard any time in the future.
They are rolling out more and more candybar phones and there are, essentially, zero options for anyone who does not like the candybar models with only virtual keyboards.  Meanwhile, the other 4g carriers all have phones out with physical keyboards.  Sprint actually has at least 2 of their 4g phones with physical keyboards and have had them out for months now.  Seriously, how hard is it for Verizon to get it together and diversify their offerings with something other than yet another candybar 4g phone?
The real kicker is Verizon put out the Droid 3 without 4g.  Seriously.  What are you guys thinking?  4g covers a huge part of the market and your only new Android phone with physical keyboard is only 3g?  Was this an attempt at marketing suicide?
Those who say you don't really need a physical keyboard must not use the phone the same way many of us in professional environments with detailed and quick response demands migth use them.  I have tried numerous virtual keyboards and none of them are responsive and fast enough to keep up with me.  One my Droid 1, I can hammer out significantly detailed and thorough responses very quickly with little to no error.  This is why so many BB users demand the physical keyboard of the BB.  If the virtual keyboards were good enough, trust me, we would have switched long ago for the weight and size differences.  The simple fact is no virtual keyboard is on par with a decent physical keyboard.
My contract is up in a few months, I am well into my upgrade period, and I am seriously considering switching to another carrier for 4g with a physical keyboard.  I am not blowing my upgrade on a phone that will irritate the hell out of me, especially when it would mean locking into another 2-year contract with a carrier who clearly is not developing devices for professional users who prefer Android.

  • I have an idea for physical keyboard lovers

When I got my first iPhone 1st generation, I struggled to get used to the touch screen keyboard. I always wished to somehow modify the phone to have one. I eventually got used to the keyboard and its not bad. But with the release of ios4 and the ability to use bluetooth keyboard. I was thinking of a case that could cover the back of the phone, that would plug into the power of the iPhone and inside the cover would be a slide out keyboard with a bluetooth ability built into the case keyboard which is powered by the phone itself. This may decrease battery life slightly but if you feel the need to have a physical keyboard I guess you can suck it up.
Would you guys be interested in a product like this?
    "iType"
I found this pic and I think it would look amazing on the new iPhone 4

  • Problem sending IM with physical keyboard

Motorola Droid 4 XT894 w/ CyanogenMod 10.1.3-maserati (Although it was same issue when I was on stock Android), Verizon and WiFi, Skype v4.4.0.31835
This has been a huge issue for me for a while, and I thought all the updates to Skype would eventually fix this bug...but apparently not.
My phone has a physical keyboard, and while I understand physical keyboards are being phased out, and that Skype is desigend around the touch screen, I feel it's still important to support these needs as I use  Skype for chats as well.
The issue is that when I slide out my keyboard and type a message, the send button dissappears and I cannot send the message by pushing the enter key on the physical keyboard, which only creates a new line in the message.  I physically have to slide the keyboard closed on the phone so that the on-screen keyboard shows up and then I can push "Send" on the screen to send a message.  This is a physical nuisance, which brings me to another point...  I really wish Skype did not change that the Enter key on the physical keyboard only creates a new line (which I understand is its intended function), because all the old versions of skype I was able to send messages just fine by hitting enter on the keypad.  I wish there was a general setting that can be checked to say "Enter to Send" like all other popular text messaging apps so you can please both parties...
What I don't understand is that version 4.12.254 skype for my iPad (MC706LL/A), which I have a bluetooth keyboard linked I can push enter on the physical bluetooth keyboard and it will send the message...what the heck???
This occurence is 5/5 tries.  Please do something about this!  Thank you!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Using my HP slatebook x2 (convertible netbook), i have come across the issue where i am not able to sent a message on skype, for the simple reason that there is no "sent" button on the screen.
The ENTER-key, will insert a new linebreak.
Using the software keyboard (android's default), there is a button (above the keyboard) to send the message.
When i reconnect my keyboard (remove it and then putting it back on), the button will show up, but only for one-time use.
    skype vers.: 4.4.0.31835
    android vers: 4.2.2 (stock)
keyboard: default hardware keyboard that HP deliveres with the tablet
Hope the devs can resolve this issue, goodluck!!

  • E7-00 physical keyboard not working

I got this old E7 phone, which was broken of course ( water damaged).
So, I opened it cleaned and it started working everything else, except physical keyboard...
I'm wondering since the water dmg was on display, is there some software problem I'm missing.
Like Do I require some language packs or phone setting or is there some option to disable the keyboard?
And yes, I full wipe and update OS to phone before testing keyboard.
This phone has my language Finnish at settings (Settings->Phone->Language)
    Info about the phone:
    Software version: 111.040.1511
    Software date: 2012--07--28

    Adapted version date: 2012-08-20
    Language packet: 111.040.1511.02.01
    PS. On-Screen keyboard works perfectly.

  • Fascinate for someone who is used to a physical keyboard

I am looking to upgrade my wife's ENV2 to a droid.  She likes the Fascinate byt us concerned about her move from a physical keyboard to a touch screen keyboard.   The Fascinate seems to be a nice large screen (and therefore an easier touch entry), but I wanted to see how others felt with that kind of transition.
Also... general feelings (pro or con) on the phone (probably going CPO)?
    Thanks!

I used to have a phone with a physical keyboard (and coincidentally, it was the EnV2) prior to the Fascinate and had some reservations myself prior to purchasing this phone.  The phone has a typing feature called Swype which is supposed to speed up typing on the virtual keyboard.  Of course, it may feel a bit odd at first not having something tangible to press on, but I got over that fairly quickly.  In case you haven't read about it, Swype allows you to type by sliding your finger across the virtual keyboard, as opposed to pressing on the virtual key.
Here is a YouTube link that shows you Swype in action.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WuP6AQPRpUg
Of course, some people won't like this, so for those individuals who actually like pressing virtual buttons, this phone also has an android keyboard.  I still recommend playing with the Swype feature before deciding whether to use that or not.
As with any phone, there are pros and cons associated with the phone.  What the pros and cons are specifically depends on what phone you're comparing it to.  It's somewhat difficult to compare this phone to the EnV2 as they are different.  One thing she may notice is that the battery goes out fairly quickly on this phone if the phone is constantly being turned on and used.  I could go 2 days on my EnV2 before charging, but I have to recharge this phone once a day (sometimes twice based on how much I use it).  But that's an unfair comparison since this phone is like a mini-computer, and I use this phone for many more things than I did the EnV2 (e.g., surfing the web, emails, creating word processing documents, and some games).  btw, playing games is one thing that will drain your battery very quickly...although using the word processor for a while can drain it quickly, too.
If she texts a lot, she'll enjoy the difference in the texting feature.  On this phone, like many Android phones, she will be able to see the entire conversation, which means no more looking through sent texts when she can't quite remember what the person is responding to.  Here's a screen cap I found online that shows an example text.
And I do like the 4" screen.  Yes, it makes the phone a bit larger than most, but it's worth it, imo.
The phone does occasionally freeze up on me, but pulling out the battery usually fixes that.  Also, while the battery life isn't the greatest, one can control that a bit by downloading an application to "kill" (or force quit) applications.  Unlike the EnV2, you will have to turn this phone off and on every once in a while (again, it's like a mini-computer and computers start to lag if you leave them on for an extended period of time, too).
Hope this helps you, and if you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.

  • Physical keyboard issues

I have had my D2 replaced 4 times since the GB update. Not because of the software. It has been replaced due to the physical keyboard tearing, peeling, and bubbling. Certified Preowned. I am tired of having the phones replaced.

        Hi xerinx!
I hate to learn of an issue with using the keyboard on your Droid 3! I have some troubleshooting steps for you. Please use the following steps:
Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > "All" tab. Then, scroll down to Multi touch keyboard and push "Force Stop" and "Clear Cache." Once these steps are completed, re-test and post back with your results. Thanks!

  • DROID Physical Keyboard Problem - All keys don't work!

Like many others, I switched to VZW in December from an iPhone so using a virtual keyboard was familiar to me - however, I had tried using the physical keyboard but noticed that not all the keys work (i.e. the space bar, backspace (delete)).  I simply wrote it up as quirk and thought it was something that would be corrected in a future update (2.0 -> 2.1).  Now 2.2 is about to be pushed any day now and rather that be optimistic that it's a firmware issue, has anyone else had this problem?
I've done a factory reset on the device so it currently has nothing but the stock applications that it came with; so it can't be a market app that's causing an issue.

Hi.  I am sorry you are having issues with your keyboard and I will be happy to help you from here.  I haven't had issues with my keyboard at all.   How long has this been going on?  It sounds like a hardware issue that we can help you with by going into the local store.
Please let me know if you have any other questions.

  • No sound when press physical keyboard keys

Hello ! By clicking on the physical keyboard keys on my Blacberry Passport no sound ( tone) as when you press the virtual keys ( numbers, symbols, ....). And how are you ? What could be the problem? Is there a sound when you press the physical keys ?

    Hi @SPBU
By design, audible 'typing noise' will not occur when pressing any of the physical keys.
Audible noise will only occur when using the virtual keyboard. Thanks!

  • N900 Physical keyboard lights not working

    Hi,
Physical keyboard lights are not working when display is fully up. Keyboard lights work only when display is halfway up. Lights go off just a millimeter before when display reach it top position.
Can anyone suggest is this a software issue or there is something physically wrong with phone (slider-switch is slightly misplaced or broken)?
    Thanks.
    Solved!

Thanks to all for content-rich reply..
-> to cpitchford: I downloaded package and entered the commands you suggested. X terminal reply after "sudo gainroot" was "Enable  RD mode if you want to break your phone". I'm not at home with RD mode, so I rather don't mess with it.. After all it was mentioned to just monitor when the switch is on/off? Keyboard light comes ON when display bottom edge reaches middle of Q-letter (on keyboard) and go OFF after the "clunk". Then, if I slightly press down the display (1mm) the keyboard lights come ON again.
_> to DrEJV  :I think the background light sensor is working OK - when I cover the light sensor with finger ,display dimes slightly. Problem is that keyboard light don't work at all when display is fully open, not even in total backround blackout.
Think that there might be wrong something with physical switch, as jlpils suggested, because now I know that they SHOULD be lighted
    thanks again

  • Physical keyboard not working, touch screen not working on Torch 9800

I've had this phone a little over a year. First, my physical keyboard stops working. It is the one I use the most. I wasjust using the virtual keyboard and when I was watching tv, I decided to turn my phone on to check it (as I usually keep it on silent.) I turned it on and the touch screen would not work for me. I opened the physical keyboard, and it is working fine now, as is the track pad, but I cannot use the touch screen by actually touching it. Anyone else have this problem? How do I fix it?
**Edit** I checked my phone right after I posted it and now neither are working.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness shows up, the first thing to try is a proper reboot:
With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes.
See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
    Good luck!
