Physical storage types

I have  a question....
are the interim storage areas physical storage areas or just dummy areas we use to update the stock when GI and GR happens and to clear differences.... I know tht putwaway strats and picking strats are not defined for these/... So I am thinking these are just dummy storage areas we define to handle Negative stocks etc... Am I wrong... Please correct me

Hello
The interim storage types are physical or logical depending upon the client business process.
Normally big warehouses having these interim storage types and the goods will unloaded and then sent to inpsection or they will repacking or skidding or lebelling will be done and then transferred to the storage bins. Similarly goods will be picked from different storage type to interim storage location and then delivered to teh customer.

    Why it is allowing?

    Why not?
It may easily happen that you have to move the goods to another interim storage type - e.g. this process is used in cross-docking where you receive the goods (e.g. 902) and without putting them away into one of the normal storage types, you directly move them to storage type 916 and ship them out.
Or just think of the inventory process as well as PCNs and you will see that the system itself uses TOs where both source and destination storage types are interim ones.

  • HL Physical Inventory: Control data for storage type  is missing

    Dear experts,
When performing an ad-hoc HL inventory in EWM, I'm facing following issue after I try to save the countet inventory document:
This is how my storage type where the inventory will be performed looks like:
What could be a reason for such a behaviour?
    Thank you in advance

    Denis

Hi Denis, you need to have the parent object in the counted item list. That means it is necessary to count the HU with parent object as Storage Bin and then you can count HU content with the parent object as HU.
When I deleted the parent object I was able to simulate your error:

  • Reservation of stock at Storage Type level in Warehouse

    Hi Gurus,
My client is currently using ORACLE ERP system and they are migrating to SAP.
In ORACLE there is a flexibility wherein reservation can be activated for warehouse stock.
However, in SAP we are mapping the multiple warehouses present in ORACLE as Storage types.
So, I would like to know whether there is a way to reserve the stocks at storage type level.
According to my analysis direct reservation is possible at plant and storage location  level.
However I would like to know from you whether there is a direct way to reserve the stocks in storage type in warehouse or any in-direct way possible to reserve the storage type stock?
    Thanks & Regards
    Subhasis

However, in SAP we are mapping the multiple warehouses present in ORACLE as Storage types.
That's probably a bad move. A physical warehouse should be at least one storage location, and storage types should only be used for sub organization inside a warehouse.
For example if Storage types are used for High Rack, Bulk, etc (what they are supposed to be used for) there is no reason to reserve stock in a specfic storage type.
Storage type vs Storage location. A "type" shouldn't be used to separate different warehouses.

  • Storage Location or Storage type

    Hi Experts ,
Here is the complete scenario .....
<b>W1</b> -- Warehouse1 which has Supplies and Pharma
<b>W2</b> -- Warehouse 2 which has Supplies and Equipments
    <b>W3</b> -- Warehouse 3 has Pharma only
<b>W1 and W3 are in one Physical structure with partition
    W2 is across the road...</b>
    1. Supplies move from W2 to W1 when supplies go low in warehouse 1 (W1) this is <b>done almost daily</b> .
    2. Supplies from W1 are moved to W2 if there is any overflow or supplies come in excess which happens <b>few times a week</b>.
    3. We have  <b>3 shipment points</b> where they perform shipping and receiving each for W1,W2 and W3.
    4. we have 6 staging spots for staging of international shipments on W1
and we have about 10 staging spots in W2 ....We need to know the exat location of where the shipping pallet is located for compliance purpose (Inspection )
    5. Most of the receiving is done in <b>W1 (about 85 %) </b>where it is inspected , arranged and then put away is done accordingly ....
If the shipment contains only equipments or Beds then its received  in W2.
    6. When there is an<b> overflow of Pharma in W1</b> then some of the supplies in W1 are removed and put in W2 so that they get space for Pharma storage .....
    7.  Warehouse 3 (W3) has high value  Pharma, basically used for domestic shipments (in US) or the pharma products which dont have space in W1.
    8..  Moving of Pharma products for storage  from <b>W3 to W1  happens rarely</b>;
    9.  Moving from W1 to W3 happens <b>almost daily</b> ..cause when ever the products get over in W3 then they move it from W1.
    10.  Picking for international shipments takes place from W3 and W1 and are shipped from W1 in big Pallets.
    11.  When they receive the product in Big pallets in W1 some pharma products go to W1 and some in W3 , depending on the value .
    12.   Some times the domestic Shipments are in  large quantity so its taken  from W3 to W1 and staged for shipment in W1.
    13.  Domestic (within US) shipments is done through Fed Ex ....which is <b>done daily ....</b>
My Question is will it be wise to
    <b>OPTION 1:</b>make these 3 warehouses into <b>3 storage locations.</b>..(1 plant >3storage locations>1 warehouse )or
    <b>OPTION 2:</b> is it wise to make these 3 warehouses into <b>3 storage types ......</b>  (1plant --->1 storage location --->1 warehouse -
    >3 storage types -->1 section under each storage type )
Will there be any problem to define <b>shipping point, carry physical inventory, stock transfers and work with RF devices</b> in future if i choose<b> option 2 </b>
Your Advise is precious to me ....Please do let me know the <b>pros and cons</b> .....for options ..above ....
    Regards
    Albert

    Hello Albert,
It's always suggested to have very simple organization structure so we can avoid extra transaction.
Now in your case, if you define three Plant/SLoc/warehouse then you are going to end up with more and more transactions at inventory level and followed by warehouse transactions.
I suggest to have one Sloc and one warehouse for this kind of organization and maintain different storage type for each physical location. This will reduce the IM level transactions. Now when moving material from one facility to another facility you can maintain one more storage type for the Transport Equipement (i.e. Cart/Forklift etc) so when you move from W1 to W2 at that time you can do bin to bin transfer.
Also you want facility for overflow in one facility so this can be achieved with allowing two storage type for putaway.
for different kind of Supplies and pharma, I am sure you will plan different material type for them so that will help to get reports for each category.
    Hope this helps.

  • Transfer material from Storage location to Storage type.

    Hello,
At the time of usage decision we are posting the stock in "To Reserve stock" for that we have created seperate storage location ie for Sample material.
we having two samples one is customer sample and other is in house sample both the samples we are posting in same storage location.
Client want to differentiate these two samples, so we have created two storage types.
Now My question is " can we transfer the samples in different storage types from Storage location.
This is the QM and WM integration.
    Please advice
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards
    Anil

    Hello Anil
I don't think you can transfer from storage location to storage type.
If your purpose is to differentiate these two samples, then why not use different Sample types with different number ranges and thus identify them. You don't have to get into QM-WM integration just for that.
If you want you may also set up 2 different physical sample locations: That would be ideal.
    SPRO/IMG/Quality Management/Quality Inspection/Sample Management/Define Physical-Sample Types
    SPRO/IMG/Quality Management/Quality Inspection/Sample Management/Define Number Range
    SPRO/IMG/Quality Management/Quality Inspection/Sample Management/Define Physical-Sample Locations
On the application side you may use the sample management procedures to deal with samples. See the following link:

  • Fixed / non-fixed storage in one storage type

    Hi,
Within our warehouse we have one area with fixed locations for some products, other products not. No clear physical separation can be made.
Is it possible to create one(!) storage type in which fixed and non-fixed can be stored while using one putaway strategy. If so, how to set this up?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Point is that we want to keep the warehouse as flexible as possible. By using storage sections you still have to assign bin locations to a specific section.
Within a range of 300 bins we might only want to use bin 20, 35 and 231 as fixed. In the future we might want to use bin 22 as well for a specific article. Based on your suggestion of using sections we have to assign bin 20, 35, 231 and 22 to a specific section. Correct?
Based on your suggestion; is the storage type putaway strategy "F" (Fixed) or "L" (First empty bin)?
    Thanks, Roel

  • Regard an error "Storage type & notsuitable as interface (SU mgmt is active

    Hi All,
I am trying to do the inventory clearing in both warehouse and Inventory management using the transactions LI20 and LI21 after counting the inventory. But whenever I am trying to do the writeoff's I am facing with an error "Storage type & not suitable as an interface (SU management is active)"
I couldnt able to figure out the main cause for this error. Your valuable suggestions would be highly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Shane

    Hi Jürgen L,
My objective is to do physical inventory and of ther are any differences then write them........in this sytem Both Grants and fund management is involved?
I am getting this message while I am doing LI21. And you have suggested that, the difference storage type SU managed. which is a 999 storage type. and  this is not SU managed.
I would also like to ask regarding the clearing of differences in warehouse and Inventory mangement. I am using the mvmt types 711 and 712, But what account documents will get generated. I am thinking there will be no account documents that will get generated. Adding to this I am getting "Account 6701 requires an assignment to a CO object with Message no. KI235". If we do this assignment to this CO object......... doesnt the transaction go and hit the balance sheet account.
I am lil baffled with this whole process. If you could give me your valuable information, that will help me a lot.
    Shane.

  • Storage Type Search for Multiple Storage Types

    Hello experts.
I have an issue that I cannot seem to resolve.
    Background
    - We are using kanban strategy 0006 in order to move materials from Plant A to Plant B.  Plant A is warehouse-managed but Plant B is not.
    - Within Plant A we have one wm-managed Storage Location with many Storage Types.
    - Within Plant B we have two Storage Locations ( each one representing a separate, physical building ).
    - A majority of the kanban materials in use only have one Supply Area assigned to them.  However we have approximately 15 materials that have multiple Supply Areas assigned to them.  This is because these materials are common parts across two different Storage Locations in Plant B.  As a result, they also have two different Storage Types assigned to them in Plant A ( the source of the material ).
    Problem
Because we have common materials in two different Storage Types, the Storage Type Search (defined in OMLY) does not always return the correct Storage Type for the Stock Removal Strategy.
I understand that this occurs because the Storage Type Search is defined based upon the Warehouse Number, Removal/Putaway Indicator and the Storage Strategy.  Therefore both Storage Types will use the same Storage Type Search when determining the Destination Storage Type for the transfer order.
    FYI, here's an example :
    - Material 123ABC is defined in Plant A, Storage Location SL00, Warehouse WH1 with Storage Types ST1 and ST2.
    - Material 123ABC is defined in Plant B, Storage Locations SL01 and SL02.
    - Material 123ABC has Supply Area SA1 for Storage Location SL01 and Supply Area SA2 for Storage Location SL02 defined for kanban.
    - Material 123ABC has Stock Removal Strategy 003 assigned in the WM1 view for Plant A, Storage Location SL00 and Warehouse WH1.
    - The Storage Type Search sequence defined for Stock Removal Strategy 003 is Storage Location SL01 then Storage Location SL02.
    - When I execute kanban for Material 123ABC for Supply Area SA2, the Destination Storage Type for the transfer order should be ST2.  However because the Storage Type Search is based upon the Warehouse (and not the Storage Type level), the Destination Storage Type for the transfer order is ST1 because it is the first item in the Storage Type Search sequence.
So my question : does anybody know how I can resolve this issue?  We don't want to adjust our master data for these materials or supply areas.  Is there a USER_EXIT that we can implement that will account for this condition?

    Hi Mathew,
Based on the storage location indicator you can maintan different storage types for picking and putaway. I think your scnario willl be addressed using this indicator. Please explore this option before going for User exits.

  • Batch Determination in SD - Fixed Storage Type

    Hi,
We have enable automatic batch determination at the delivery stage (VL01N). for example:
    Plant: 1000
    Storage Location: 3000
    Warehouse number: 300
    Storage type in warehouse number 300: 910,911,912, NF1, NF2, NF3
In SD batch determination process in some cases batch are select from storage type 910 or 912 or NF1 (depend on unrestricted use), how to configure in SD batch determination configuration for always select batch´s from fixed storage type (in this case NF1 or NF2 or NF3).

Nice idea, but what is your plan if no other batch is there, and all stock is in the interim storage type?
From my point of view it does not really matter where the process flow stucks, if you wait for batch assignment in delivery until the batch is in its real bin or if you do the assignment right away and the creation of WM-TO stucks until the quant is moved from the interim storage type to its final bin.
You just have to understand that batch determination and source bin determination serves usually different needs.
I usually search for a by certain quality figures to meet my customers requirement. Or by age,  to always issue the oldes stuff first.
A interim storage type is a warehouse internal thing, as I already said, nothing phyiscal. And in WM you use the storage bin search to determine the bin from where you can pick the desired material and batch.
My batch determination is setup to execute automatically when delivery is created. My deliveries are either created manually at the shipping office or automatically with a batch job.
Instead of using LT03 we have to use LB10 to create a WM-TO.  Of course this will fail if the quant is locked because of an open TO or if the storage type where it physically resides is not includes in the search.

  • Fixed bins to be defined in a storage type

I have multiple materials in a storage type in which some of the bins need to be assigned as fixed bins and some of them not. Is this possible ? I have a requirement to use the fixed bins to be replenished from High rack.If this is not possible then I need to create so many sections to make sure each material need to be putaway in one assigned bin for that material.
    Any ideas?

PutAway and Picking Strategies are determined at Storage Type level.
So you can only have one strategy per Storage Type : either FIXED BINS or another strategy.
One Storage type does not have to be BINs next to one another.....
In the same physical space you can have two storage types where some BINs are Fixed Bins in one Storage Type and some BINs are not fixed Bins in the other Storage Type....that is one possibility.
If that is not possible, then I would look at having a PutAway and Picking Strategies that are so restrictive for each material that they have to go to a specific BIN .
Those are only a few ideas, it really depends on what your constraints are, how many materials are concerned, etc....
And finally, there is the user-exit option.....

  • Purpose of various storage types

    Hi,
As Bulk storage type is for storing bulk materials and Hazardous material for Hazardous materials. What are the types of materials or what is the purpose of the following storage types.
    Open storage
    Fixed bin storage
    Block storage
    Shelf storage
    High rack storage
    Pallet storage
    Production supply.
    Thanks.
    Prakash

    Hello Prakash,
The storage type is a subdivision of a warehouse complex or physical warehouse. Different storage types are identified by their warehousing technique, form of organization, or their functions.
    Here is some infomration:
Open storage : This is the storage type where you can put material in open space (without bins), in other words you can say dumping the mateirals
Fixed bin storage: In this storage type, each material will have fixed bin and it always goes in that fixed bin during the putaway and during ppicking.
Block storage: Here you can put the blocked  material
Shelf storage: This kind of storage type will have shelf with bins
High rack storage: This is self explaination word, it will have high racks
Pallet storage: In this storage type, you can storage pallets which can have in different sizes of pallets:
Production supply: This is the area near to production line where you will stage material required for production.
    Hope this helps.

  • Difference between Storage Unit type and storage type

    Hi,
I am confused with storage unit type and storage type.
Can anyone help me with real case examples.
I would like to know about Storage unit types and their uses in WM.

    Hello!
Storage type is a storage area and Storage Unit Type is strategies are used in the warehouse process for creating transfer orders.
A storage type is a storage area, warehouse facility, or a warehouse zone that you define in Warehouse Management (WM) for a warehouse number. This is a physical or logical subdivision of a warehouse complex that is characterized by its warehouse technique, the space used, its organizational form, or its function.  A storage type generally contains several storage spaces or slots. These are called storage bins in Warehouse Management (WM).

    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_470/helpdata/en/c6/f838f94afa11d182b90000e829fbfe/content.htm
Storage Unit Type is putaway strategy, the system processes different storage unit types (for example, pallets) and allocates them to the appropriate section. Often, one storage bin is divided into several smaller sections. Typically, only the same storage unit types can be placed into a storage bin at one time.

  • How to delete all HU in one storage type

Dear experts I did use the /SCWM/ISU for uploading of the stock but now I need to change something in the structure of the storage bins.
I cannot change anything, because the bins are having HU already. Could someone give me a tipp how I can delete all HUs from one specific storage type?
    Thanks in advance
    BR
    Denis

    Hi Denis,
If the HUs are empty then the above solutions as Pet and Ifran mentioned should work for you.  Else, if you have stock in the HUs then you need to scrap the stock, you can do this using /n/scwm/adgi look up the HUs then scrap them.  This will empty the bins.
