PI 7.0 installation: SAPInst question

Hi guys,
I have a question regarding SAPInst.
I am attempting to install a new NetWeaver 7.0 PI (Abap and Java) central system (Windows 32 on Oracle).
At page 81 of the Installation guide for NetWeaver 7.0 it says that at the SAPinst Welcome screen I should be able to select between the following 2 installation options:
- SAP Systems
- Software Life-Cycle Options
However what I see is:
SAP NetWeaver 7.0 Support Release 3
- Standalone Engines
- Optional Standalone Units
- Software Life-Cycle Options
Can anybody tell me what path/feature I should select for a full PI installation? Where do I find the "SAP Systems" described in the Installation Guide?

Silent installs - quick question

Hi All
We like to confirm if silent installations both 32-bit and 64-bit java jdk installs support installation directory option.
Eg
On 64-bit JDK
jdk.exe /s /v/qn INSTALLDIR=C:\software_installations\jdk1.6\ /L C:\software_installations\scripts\auto-install.log\
We ask because we keep getting pop-ups on options to install but it doesnt have INSTALLDIR option.
Does 32-bit JDK have different options ?
What are the exact command string including option of install directory ?
We like to silent install our 32-bit and 64-bit JDKs with our custom install directory, not using the default.

SQL 2012 SP1 installation quick questions

I am installing my first SQL 2012 SP1 Enterprise Core (x64). The installation failed to install some services due to an error installing .Net framework 3.5. It was able to install successfully several features including Analysis Services
and Integration services, but not the Database Engine, Management tools and Reporting services.
Note: I ran the set up and my user is an administrator in the target server, but I did not right clicking on setup.exe and "Run as administrator" .
I have two questions
1) Did I had to run the setup by Right clicking on setup.exe and "Run as administrator"?
2) Now that my installation failed. After installing the missing requirements....Do I:
a) Uninstall the current failed installation
b) Do I attempt to install again "on top of the existing installation".
c) Redo the whole server and start fresh.
I am open to expert suggestions. Please help

1. If you are already logged in as Administrator, there is no need to use the Run as Administrator option.
2. I would choose to uninstall everything and install again. Since were are installing from the Command Prompt, and we do not have the
GUI, and we are not familiar with the command line options.

SQL 2005 Upgrade complete! - Post installation tasks questions!

Hi All
I have managed to upgrade our DEV and TST ECC6 systems to SQL2005 (from SQL2000) and so far all seems ok however I have a a few questions and checks I would like some help with. I have included my post installation tasks at the bottom of this post, so you know what I have done.
I have noticed that when I run SGEN I get a short dump LOAD_VERSION_LOST which I am not sure what this means.
If there is anything else I need to do or should do please let me know.

sequence of installation: abap (central and database instance) java add-in,upgrade java instance to sp16

For problem i read that from netweaver sr01 portal can be installed on abap+java system, as java add-in is seperately installed on another schema.

I downloaded sap crypto.. lib, sda file and try to deploy it via sdm but when i execute remotegui.bat, after entering the default password 'sdm' it give the error
ERROR: Could not establish connection to server SAPDevSrv at port 50018: Connection refused: connect
Further to add,i find scs(java instance running)in sapmmc, but there is no entry for java.exe in task manager, i use jcontro.exe pf=<..> file
can anyone help me.

the problem is solved a little bit, the sapinst moved few phases ahead.
what i did was that i started deploying sda file via sdm command mode and i started the sdm server from command mode.
But now there is another error of compilation. the callSdmviaSAPinst.log

But as you suggested if i change my java version would it not be a problem for sap other instances? if not then i can change. and also if i change the java version should i have to repeat ep installation or the aborted installation will work?

Starting deployment prerequisites: error in BI-Java installation sapinst

Hi all,
We are in process updating Bw 3.5 to BI 7.0 we hace sucessfully completed the Upgrade but while installing Bi java thru Sapinst in third step like java instance installtion i was stck with the below error.
We have downloaded the Cryptographic file and placed in jdk folder still the same problem is coming.

SOA Suite 11.1.1.3 installation - RCU question

Hi,
I installed SOA Suite 11.1.1.3 using the following steps:
1. Installed XE database
2. Created RCU - 11.1.1.2.1 using prefix "DEV"
3. Created RCU - 11.1.1.3 using prefix "DEV1"
3. Installed WLS 10.3.3 full install
4. Installed SOA Suite 11.1.1.2.0 in the middleware home created in Step 3
5. Upgraded SOA Suite from 11.1.1.2 to 11.1.1.3
My questions are:
1. Have I followed the correct steps? I did not receive any errors while installing.
2. Which RCU will be used by SOASuite 11.1.1.3? Schemas prefixed with "DEV" or schemas prefixed with "DEV1"? Is there a way I can check this information?

I successfully installed SOA Suite 11.1.1.3 too on windows 2003server
I first Installed oracle database11.2.0.2
then Created RCU - 11.1.1.2.1 using prefix "DEV",but no use the RCU 11.1.1.3

Finally Installed SOA Suite 11.1.1.2.0 in the middleware home created in Step 3
and Upgraded SOA Suite from 11.1.1.2 to 11.1.1.3
so we hava the same steps.I run the em and console successful,and all the soa Components are run Operating normally!
and I found not any different between RCU 11.1.1.2.1 and RCU 11.1.1.3 on install soa suite.
I want to know you to Exchange our soa Experience!

Installer package question (malware?)

i believe i may have installed a suspect install package on my ibook.
it definately installed something. it required the admin password, but did not install the expected program.
is there any way of finding out what files did get installed so i can rid myself of them, because at the moment i have no idea what this installer package did.

I am going to suggest an alternative to Daniel Macks' suggestion about using 'lsbom'.
Double click on the receipt. The Installer will open. From the menu bar, select File > Show Files. This will give a list of all the files installed, similar to the list from lsbom. (If it was an application there will be hundreds of files inside the application.) You can copy and paste the list into a TextEdit file, if you want. Be careful about trashing folders that are not part of an application package. Then quit the installer. Do not click "Continue". (If you tried to go through with the installation, it would fail, because the receipt is not a complete package.)

Solaris installation related questions/problems

I've recently purchased Sun's Solaris 8 OE media kit 2/02.
I tried installing them on two computers and experienced the following problems:
On my Pentium 3, I get the following messages when during the first steps of installation:

Most surprisingly, the installation worked!!!
However, if anyone understands what the above means, its implications or other important information, I'd like to hear it and its workarounds if any.
On my newly purchased Pentium 4, I had to first remove my Ethernet card to prevent system boots during installation. My problem is that I have some hardware conflicts.
I have a "15 LCD monitor from LG.
Display adapters: ASUS vn179 DDR v28.32
GeForce 4 MX 440 64 MB BV17 Internal (MV)
I think that these two are causing the problem.
As a result, I cannot install Solaris with the windowing system.
I cannot see these types when choosing hardware devices.
Please advise on this matter.
I tried choosing some other hardware from the configuration list but the installation halted.
Am I doomed with this computer not having Solaris on it?
Last is a matter of Solaris residing on a single harddisk with other OS.
I want to have Solaris, Redhat Linux 7.3 and Windows XP Professional.
In what order should I install the OSs?
Is it recommended to make partitions before any of the above installations take place?
Which OS should go into each partition if it makes a difference?
P.S.
I'm a total newbie to Solaris and plan doing some Java programming on it.
So using a GUI is absolutely essential to me.

You can install UPK server with WS 2008 R2 SP1 without any issues(may it be standard or enterprise edn.). Oracle database 11.2.0.4 can be used as well.
You can refer the installation guide for version 12.1 incase you have any queries.
You would only need to open the database port(eg 1527) or so on the subject server. There are no other specific port opening requirement on the firewall (port 80 must be open as well, but mostly it is not blocked on servers).

I think I understood all the procedure, all the phases for this installation/update of this FixPack version, but I didn´t understand one thing, because this is the first time I´m doing this, how I use the Central Management Console (CMC) to stop all of the BusinessObjects Enterprise servers on the machine before installing the FixPack?
How do I access the CMC so I can stop that servers?

Can I ask you another thing about BO applications?... We have installed here, besides BO Enterprise product, other product which is the BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.1 Integration for SAP Solutions... we must apply the fixpack for this product too? It is recommended? In FixPack guide there is a paragraph in chapter 2.5 Planning your FixPack installation, in there is refered the following:
"It is required that all BusinessObjects products and components be at the same Service Pack and
FixPack level. If you have a distributed installation or you are running multiple BusinessObjects
products, ensure that all products and distributed components are updated. This includes
BusinessObjects Enterprise servers, client tools, web components, and other BusinessObjects
products such as Crystal Reports, Live Office, and integrations kits."
So... It is mandatory to have all the BO products in the same FixPack version?

Basic WTC installation/configuration question

We have a 3rd party software that uses tuxedo. We have 3rd party related services
running as part of tuxedo. We use Weblogic 6.1 inhouse for all application development.
I want to connect Weblogic to Tuxedo and use the services avaialble in the software.
We have tuxedo configure on a Unix server (brad1) and have the follwoing information
in the ubbconfig file for tuxedo:

Raju,
There are several ways of having the Tuxedo services made available to
Weblogic. Through java client protocol(JOLT), through CORBA/RMI_IIOP,
or through /TDOMAIN protocol(WTC). They each have potential benefits but
they all require some configuration change.
The changes for WTC are as follows:
On the Tuxedo side: A Tuxedo domains config file will need to be
created that identifies the WLS-side TDomain,the Tuxedo-side TDomain and
the Tuxedo
services that are exported from Tuxedo to WLS. The Tuxedo ubbconfig
file will need to be
modified to include the servers for TDomains(ie DMADM,GWADM,GWTDOMAIN)
On the WLS side: For WLS 6.1 a bdmconfig file definition is made that
identifies the
Tuxedo-side TDomain, the WLS-side TDomain and the Tuxedo services that
are imported
from Tuxedo into WLS. An EJB interface wil also need to be created for
the service that
you are importing.
The simpapp example in the samples/examples/wtc directory of your WLS
distribution
should help to make this usage clearer.

PackageMaker and Software Installs - Newbie Questions

I understand from using Remote Desktop and from the forums that you can custom create install packages for Macs on a LAN. I would just like to understand what the limitations are, what the simplified process for creating them is etc.
We use disk images for building machines but updating the 30 machines for software updates etc is a pain in the current format (going to each machine).
Would the process be to install the software on the default image, select the components for install, create package and put out via ARD? Would this work and install any software package, place items in the dock etc.
Am I over estimating the abilities of ARD and Package maker or on the right lines. Just after speeding things up etc
We have ARD 3.1, mixture of G4 Dual 500, 867 and 1,27s (running 10.3.9) and MacPro 3GHz (10.4.8) and an Xserve on 10.4.7

For more complex installs we use loggen to take a snapshot of the installed files.
While at Macworld this year researching tools for distribution like this, I discovered that JAMF Software had released their Composer application as a separate purchase/download from their entire Casper Suite. It's a GUI for diff so it will take a snapshot, let you install all your software and then take another snapshot and build a .dmg or .pkg for you. We absolutely had to be able to install "critical" Microsoft Office updates for all my Macs at work and we simply couldn't "touch" all the machines to run the Office Updater, so we had to find a tool like this. I've been messing around with it for about two weeks and there are a couple of issues I have with it, but we're currently pushing out Office 2004 updates now without any trouble.

Installation issue - Question Mark over icon?

Hi.
I just purchased FCE4 to upgrade from my old version.
I did the install, and it said it was successful.
I rebooted.
My FCE icon has a big question mark over it, and clicking on it doesn't open the software.
Any ideas?

It sounds like you're looking at your Dock icon which can't find the old version. Open your Applications folder and see if FCE will open using that icon.

Installer pkg question

Hi i've had my mb for 2 years and have 5gigs of installer package pkg's such as garageband extra content, security update pkg, iphoto.pkg etc my hard drive is limited to 55gigs so i'm in need of space..once these updates and packages get installed can i get rid of the pkg or must i leave all of these files on my hd? is there any downside to erasing them?

Unless they're in the /Library/Receipts/ folder, just delete them. To make more space available, delete items in the /Library/Printers/ folder you don't use and run a tool such as Monolingual.

Installation Itunes / Question

Hello, installation of the newest itunes software fails at the point "starting apple mobile device", can somebody help?

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
