PI 7.1 EHP1 - Installing SP03 - Can't mount Kernel DVD

Hi Experts,
I'm presently intalling the latest packs on a PI7.1 EHP1 box.
I've dowloaded all the files in a folder and started the upgrade with the Upgrade master.
Entered the the up keyword, download directory path, did the DDIC and OS password. It seems to be extracting the kernel etc.
Now I'm up to the point where there asking me to point to the where the Kernel DVD is mounted.
I'm at a lost here... I have a couple files identified has Kernel files which I extrated and there was no MID.XML fiel.
I've also tried to point to the Export Upgrade DVD with not luck.
What I'm I missing?
Thanks and regards.

  • Can't mount Memorex DVD

    Hello all,
I have a Power PC Dual 1 GHZ running 10.4.11. I recently needed to retrieve some files from my archives. To my surprise the DVD's I used would not mount, my Mac just spit them back out. So, I tried another disk, same thing. These were all Memorex DVD's that I burned with the original drive (PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-104) that I'm still using. I tried another disk from my archive from a different manufacturer and it did mount, actually every disk that wasn't a Memorex did mount. Is there a problem with Memorex DVD's? Is there any way I could retrieve the info off these disks? And last, which in your opinion is the more reliable and stable backup solution, CD's or DVD's.
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Ron

Ouch, spindle, a guaranteed way to contaminate the discs before you've even used them. If you've left them out in the sun for any length of time, your chances may be less than nil.
All I can suggest is that you give the discs a good clean with warm soapy water and hand dry them properly before use. It may help you get some files back. Be careful with the label side of the disc, the back of this contains your data.
I've used Memorex for CD-R (because they were cheap) but I bought them as individually sealed jewelcases, and I store them (before and after burning) vertically in the jewelcases in the dark. I only use them for copies of discs, usually games that require the original CD to be installed. When it goes bad, I trash it and burn another.
Depending on how important your data is, you could try buying a new drive for the MDD, something dual layer DVD perhaps.

  • Can't mount commercial dvds

Problem: I cannot mount any commercial dvd, but I was able to a couple of weeks ago, strange thing is that a home made copy of the same dvds just mounts fine, same with any data dvd/cd, also if I reboot the machine it will mount it but after a eject/load it will not. the odd part is that all of a sudden all of my linux systems in this machine behave the same except for the ms-os.
    Info:
-old lg h44l dvd/cd burner in IDE port
-currently on arch 64 and KDE up to-date
    -other OS in the machine:
    -Ubuntu 11.10
    -Kubuntu 11.10
    -Arch in XBMC mode
    -w7
Is this a hardware problem? could it be that the drive is been lock in some way? again w7 has no problem it seams mounting/playing, any info or pinpoint is much appreciated. thanks in advance.

You do have libdvdcss installed right?:

You will need that to decrypt commercial DVD's if you don't or it was uninstalled since the last time you tried.
Edit: perhaps I read your question wrong but still checking for this library is something your should do: "pacman -Q libdvdcss" and see if it returns a result.  If it returns "not found" then you don't have it installed.
Thank you for the response, yep that was one of my first suspected packages but is not the issue, I have the latest installed, "libdvdcss 1.2.11-1" I wonder if has any thing to do with mtab/fstab or the like, I wonder if my last update mess up things, I see consolekit and polkit-kde in the pacman.log...

  • Can't mount movie DVDs after Security Update 2006-002

I installed Security Update 2006-002 today after all the preparation recommended by MacFixit. Everything came up fine, EXCEPT:
Movie DVDs (e.g., as rented from Blockbuster) no longer mount.
    Yesterday, there was no problem.
    Dual G5 2.5 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

The following link describes MacFixit's recommendation for installation of 10.4.6, but it is basically the same recommendation as they have given for quite a while for any significant system update, including security updates:
    http://www.macfixit.com/index.php?date=2006-04-03
Scroll down until you see "Update process recommendation".
In my case, I had followed the "more cautious route" of this procedure but still had a problem, and then the problem went away when I did a (presumably extra) pre-binding.
For system-wide updates (that is, 10.4.x -> 10.4.(x+1)) I've always used combo updaters rather than the supposedly specific-and-therefore-smaller updaters when updating the system. For the security update in question here, I downloaded the updater from the Apple site rather than use Software Update.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can't install Snow Leopard on MacBook Pro - DVD won't mount

I am unable to install Snow Leopard on my MacBook Pro as the DVD won't mount.  This is an early 2008 vintage MacBook Pro, intel core duo...
I'm using a OS X Snow Leopard install DVD (family licensed).  This DVD has been used to install 3 other Macs in my house without a problem (about a year ago), but cannot be used to upgrade my MBP.  Actually, this disk mounted on the MBP exactly once - inserted with system up, the disk mounted.  Upon running the installed (a year ago), the computer restarted but hung in boot.  After getting the disk ejected and the computer restarted, the disk would never mount again.  I've defered upgrade for a year but at this point need to upgrade my MBP at least to Snow Leopard and possibly Lion.
The problem doesn't seem to be with the DVD, since it continues to mount fine in other computers, and in fact a borrowed Snow Leopard DVD also will not mount on the MBP.
BUT ... the problem also does not seem to be with the optical drive in my computer, as it can read & mount the install/restore disks that came with the computer as well as other CDs and DVD ROMs.  Only the Snow Leopard install DVDs fail to mount.
I've also tried mounting the 10.6 install DVD on my Mac Pro desktop, making it available over the network (ethernet) with DVD/CD sharing.  I can mount the remote disk from my MBP that way, but when I launch the installer, the application launches (its own menus are displayed, I can quit from menu, for example) but does nothing -- no windows open, nothing.
I've also tried "Remote Install" (again with the DVD made available with the Remote Install MacOS X application on my desktop), but when I boot the MBP with option held down, the remote disk is not available as a startup disk.
Zapping the PRAM did not help.
Am off to the store to get an optical drive cleaning kit and a blank DVD big enough to burn a new disk image, but would appreciate any further ideas at this point....

Solution that worked: Copy the Install DVD to a USB flash drive and boot from that.

  • After a clean install, how can I continue using Time Machine?

After a clean install, how can I continue using Time Machine?
I booted from my recovery partition, erased my HD, installed the same OS, (Lion, 10.7.5) then restored from my TM.
If it asks if i want to use TM, I say yes. When I chose the drive, it seems to want to start all over, instead of just picking up where I left off.
Is there any way of picking up where I left off?

    Hi Frank,
You are sure you looking in your Library in /Users/YOUR_USERNAME/Library and not /Library at the top level of your harddrive?
When you open iCal what do you see?  Are the calendars the two default Home and Work ones?
I really appreciate the responses -- especially if you are in the UK as opposed to Ontario.
Why, do you have something against London Ontario?

Hello to all my readers.I am still using my Apple G4 1.25 Ghz MDD running Leopard 10.5.8 with iTunes 10.6.3 installed. Can I use an Phone 4s with iOS 5 with this set up? I have read the iPhone iOS 5 user guide and it appears that I can but is anybody actually doing it ? My current phone is a £10 Nokia and I've neither wish nor cash to spend more than a grand upgrading to an intel based machine (at the moment) ! Regards to you all.

If you can find an iPhone running iOS5 and those are the specs for iOS5, there is no reason it should not work.
If you want a more current version of iOS or a more current device, a Windows computer is always an option at significantly less cost.
Granted, there is no requirement to have a computer to use an iPhone.

After updating iTunes on my Win7 64bit PC, when I plug my iPod Touch 32GB in, I get the error message "MTP USB device has failed to install" and can't sync. Yesterday, everything worked well.

You can't get there with GUID/GPT.
There are tips on making a USB flash device that is bootable.
You can set aside a small 6GB partition somewhere and put Windows 7 installer there and run it WHILE IN Windows.
Windows Vista can be upgraded in place to 7 RC.
    You'll need NTFS (30-50GB).
Windows doesn't support FW for booting.
You can create a drive that has Master Boot Record.

  • TS2570 This evening I installed a new internal hard drive in my Mac notebook as recommended by the Apple Store.  The Mac notebook was an older model that was purchased through Ebay and didn't come with a start-up DVD.  Where can I get a DVD to format my M

Can anyone please advise me as to how to obtain the correct DVD to re-format my new hard drive?  I had taken my computer to the nearest Apple store when I first discovered the problem with the gray screen, and was advised to purchase a new hard drive over the Internet for my computer since it was over 5 years old.  The Apple associate never mentioned anything about needing the original disc to finish the installation.  Now I've invested money in this new disc as well as the time taken to install it, and I still don't have a working Mac notebook.  How can I fix this problem without a lot of additional cost.  This computer had been my son's originally, and he can not locate the DVD that came with this Mac.  Please help!!!

You can contact Apple Customer Support at 800-767-2775 to replace your install disc. You may be charged for shipping and handling.
You will need the serial number for your Mac to do so.
