Piano Keyboard pedal

Hello, I have hooked up me Yamaha midi-keyboard to my iMac and started recording. The only problem ive encountered so far is adding pedal to my piano tracks. As I don't have a pedal for my keyboard I tried to do it digitally. +(I'm not entirely sure about the word in english, pedal: extending the sound of each note, i'm sure you get my point).+ Is this possible to add digitally in garageband? Or do I need to buy a physical pedal for my keyboard? Thanks in advance

If you open the Piano roll you will see 4 menu's in the left side bar. The top one called 'View' has an option to modify/add sustain to your MIDI notes. Have you tried this?

I have a Yamaha DGX220 Piano Keyboard and I have downloaded their driver. After downloading and installing there is no interfacing with the computer, it doesn't recognize the Yamaha Midi driver.
Does anyone of you out there experience the same problem? I have downloaded the Mavericks OS.. The Yamaha company thinks there is a bug within Mavericks that causes this no connection issue.

    Hi,
Would you explain what remote MIDI sequencer is?
Your keyboard has a bulit-in Music recording device. This is actually a buiti-in digital MIDI music sequencer. It can also, output through the MIDI connectors the MIDI sequence to either software on a computer or other external MIDI devices like dedicated sound modules or computer software sound modules or software sequencers
I use both software MIDI music software sequencers and a dedicated hardware MIDI music recording sequencer in my system.
Dedicated digital MIDI hardwaremusic sequencers do the same things as the bulit-in sequencer on your keyboard and computer software music recording sequencing.
Digital MIDI music sequencers DO NOT RECORD SOUNDS.
They record things like what keys are pressed on the musical keyboard, how much key sensitivity and pressure was applied, other parameters like if you change the pitch of the keyboard up and down by half steps, the sound number and sound bank number, records pedal information, records wheel and pitch bend wheel information, records other MIDI active button  controller information, etc.
Basically, keyboard sequencers, hardware sequencers and software sequencers record the performance nuances of your playing and NOT the actual sounds that you are hearing.

  • Casio SP33 Keyboard Pedals in Logic Pro 9?

    Dear all,
Can I use my Casio SP33 Keyboard Pedals for PX-150 in Logic Pro 9?
I practice piano with headphones on while my digital piano (Casio PX-150.) is plugged into my Mac book pro.
I decided to buy the designated trio of pedals, along with the piano in order to practice in the comfort of my home.
In addition so i could practice pieces for University piano performance exams, meaning i need to have a realistic approach to practicing pieces.
I use Logic Pro 9 as my source for VST's. Now i HAVE to plug in my headphones as people don't like noise!
I found the Sustain pedal (right pedal) works perfectly. While the Una corda (left pedal,) and
Sostenuto (middle pedal,) don't work at all.
I will greatly appreciate if anyone could give me an answer.
Thank you for taking time to read this.
    Best wishes,
    Andy J Stack.

Pretty sure it's a MIDI issue with the MOTO MIDI Interface, have you gone here, downloaded/installed the latest Mac drivers?  (very important)

  • Connecting an old piano keyboard to garageband

I have an "old" Yamaha (PSR-280) electric piano/keyboard which we bought
around (I would guess) 12 years ago.
On the back of my mac (near to all the USB sockets) there are two round plug holes,
one with a headphone symbol and the other with a symbol of a circle with two
triangular arrows pointing into this circle,
Out of all the sockets I would GUESS that this would be the only one that MAY serve
for the connection to the piano keyboard!??
The PIANO has two basic round plug holes
(larger but similar to those on the mac) that say: "phones/output" and the other "sustain"
Then there are two other round sockets that each have 5 pinholes that are termed
"MIDI - IN - OUT" (apologies for my lack of knowledge in naming the plug types)
At this stage I just wanted to know if its worth even trying to connect it to garageband on my mac
before trying to hunt down all the necessary cables and adaptors etc to make it possible
or whether I am wasting my time??
    Any advice very welcome
    Thank you
    Mark

Thanks for your response the other day...
I tried connecting with a cable but no sound comes through.
I went to "sound" in system preferences and the sound meter
seemed to indicate that something was going through because
the meter would jump whenever I hit a key on the piano. I also noticed
that the the meter would stay lit for a couple of seconds each time I hit
a note so even if the sound was coming through I suspect I would have
the same problems with notes getting "stuck" as the person with the post below

Thanks isteveus, I will keep persevering...

  • Which piano keyboard works best with GarageBand?

I just got a MacBook Pro and am looking to get a piano keyboard to use with GarageBand. I would like for it to be able to be played without hooking it up to my computer. Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Fletcher

the best way to do this would be to write down the features you're looking for, and check out a local music store so that you can see what looks and feels good to you (keeping in mind the factors I mentioned above for compatibility)
If that's just not an option, you might take a look at this 88 key stage piano or this 'Premium' stage piano
Disclaimer: I have not personally used either one, and I'm not a piano player (though I have a 49e controller that I've very happy with), but this is a good brand that is also well known around here for being Mac Friendly

  • HT2693 Downloaded the piano keyboard app and will not work at all...also no sound.  This app only.    Refund??

I downloaded the piano keyboard app....will not work at all....the screen comes up but no a tigon when trying to use...also no sound.

Try a couple of basic troubleshooting steps,
Quit the app completely and restart the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Delete the app and reinstall. You will not have to pay for it again as long as you use the same Apple ID that you bought it with. Hold down on the icon until it jiggles, then tap the X on the icon to delete the app. Tap the home button to stop the apps from jiggling. Go back to the App Store purchased tab and download the app again.

  • Connecting Piano (keyboard) to garage band

I'm new to GarageBand. How do I connect a keyboard to my Mac? I have a MIDI>USB cable but that didn't work.
It is a Suzuki FP-S Spinet Digital Piano
Message was edited by: Lethal Penguin

Midi driver for what? Read my last post to understand the difference between the two possible connections!
To say it another way: The midi data that your keyboard produces is a stream of events, like "key C1 down", "sustain pedal released", etc. In order to get these into the USB port of your computer, the data have to be packaged according to the USB standards (don't ask me for details). This is either done inside the keyboard - then you need just a simple USB to USB cable to get it to your computer. Or it is done by a separate device called an interface that you connect to the round midi socket in your piano. This might just look like a simple cable with a bulging part in the middle, but it is a separate device that changes the datastream.
This is not an academic difference when it comes to drivers: In case 1 you need a driver for the keyboard (Suzuki), in case 2 you need a driver for the interface which could come from a lot of manufacturers. That's why I have been trying for a while to get you to tell us what that thing is that's between your keyboard and your computer.

  • Assign MIDI Keyboard Pedal to control Record?

I can't seem to get it to work, I used MIDI learn but it didn't assign the Pedal, a simple 0-127 cc64 VFP 1/25, to control the transport record button. Could the problem be that the box the pedal came in mentions most makes of keyboards but not my M-Audio 49e?

I see. the pedal must send CC64 to Logic to be able to control the software instruments sustain ect.
One of the reasons that the CC64 can be "blocked" is if there are any previous Controller Assignments or Keycommand assignments of that message i.e CC64. In this scenario the Logic Physical Input blocks the original message. There is a little trick to split that message using IAC but for now you must be sure where is the problem. Try to trash (and make a backup) the Logic Preferences file which will reset/delete all previous assignments. Open Logic and operate the pedal just to see if there is any CC64 shown in the Transport midi monitor or in the Input View monitor in Click & Ports environment layer. If that works then you can try to learn a keycommand again.
    Those asignment numbers mean little to me, they are"F0 7E 7F 06 02 00 20 08 4D 14 10 01 20 31 32 32 F7:learned

  • Is piano keyboard in GarageBand being reversed?

I just got my piano today and started my very first piano lesson on GarageBand. I've never had any experience with piano before so please excuse me if the question sounds too dump for you
I notice that the GarageBand piano starts with 3 black keys, then 2 black keys, etc. starting from the left to right, which is completely opposite to mine. I googled some piano image and finds all of them similar to mine.
Is the GarageBand keyboard being reversed? Why did they do that? I find it to be very counter intuitive. Is there anyway I can change it to make it looks the same as mine?
Some information: Mac OS 10.6, Pinao technics SX-PR51.
    Thank you,

It is not reversed, it is showings a diffenerent section of the keyboard - shifted a fifth down, so the bass keys will start with "F" and not with "C" like your keyboard. Actually, I prefer it this way when playing in C scale. Then I frequently need a note below the C and this makes it easier to play.
Your keyboard starts at the fifth white key to the right.

  • External Keyboard-Pedal to control Logics' Wah-effect?

I have a Roland FP-7 Keyboard connected to my Mac (via Midi and a M-Audio ProFire 610 box). The keyboard has three pedal inputs (damper, FC1 and FC2). In FC 2 I have a Roland EV-5 expression pedal. With this pedal I would like to control a wah-wah-effect in logic (I play a clavinet sound on my keyboard). How can I tell Logic to use this pedal as the wah-wah-controller?
Any help is greatly appreciated because I am quite new to Logic!
    Thanks a lot...

Ahh, if it's sending volume ( CC7 ) then you going to have to transform that from the environment window before it'll work for starters.
OK, go to environment/clicks and ports
add a new transformer, you should see physical on the left of the screen it should show your pedal as one of the outputs, click on that output and it should give you a cable, plug that cable into the in of the transformer, now look at this diagram and set the cabling and transformer parameters up exactly like it. You open the transformer parameters by double clicking the icon:
If you have trouble reading this diagram, double click it and it'll take you to flickr then click on all sizes to make it bigger.
This should now convert CC7 ( volume ) to CC10 so you can assign it to automation and use it as in my first comment.

  • Piano keyboard doesn't work

i have an m-audio keystation 61 es, plugged into both my IMac ppc and then Macbook Intel and works with neither. I am new to midi etc and have no experience using any type devices, in the manual it says this device doesn't need drivers for OSX - do i need software to produce the relevant sounds? I tried using audio midi setup but that doesn't seem to work as the support article describes.
I'm not using Logic pro 8 but couldn't find any other discussion site. The only thing i can think of that might cause the issue is that i have removed Garageband from both macs to free up disk space.
any help to this new budding pianist is most welcome.

When you say it "works with neither" does that mean the device isn't recognised by your computer? Does it show up in the AMS utility?

It's a keyboard. It's whole purpose is to let you play a keyboard and send those notes to your computer.
If you are not running any software of your computer - what do you expect it to do? It's like waving a paintbrush around in the air - no matter what you do, you aren't going to end up with some paper with paint on!
The keyboard you have is just a keyboard, it has no sound generating circuitry and makes no sound.
Sounds like you need to reinstall Garageband., which has instruments you can play via your keyboard..

  • Piano keyboard not communicating with Mac

I have installed the driver for my Yamaha keyboard, but it's not connecting with the Mac.  Is there a step I'm missing?
    Thx,
    Redhousearts

The Yamaha support site shows drivers from OS 8 (1997) which makes this a very old machine indeed. The site shows it to be discontinued, as you say. The keyboards of that vintage used a cable MIDI to USB which is now difficult to find widely available since most recent controllers are USB interface. It seems that you will have to consider a more up-to-date controller for use with your Mac. I have used M-Audio controllers with a great deal of reliability in conjunction with my Macs causing no trouble for driver and recognition: simply plug and play with both GarageBand and Logic as well as Finale (for Speedy Entry using MIDI input). I find the M-Audio reasonably priced and effective for my studio work at my DAW. My current controller is M-Audio Oxygen 49; no concerns on iMac and MacBook Pro (10.6.8)in addition to MacBook Pro (10.7.2). Good luck in your search.

  • How do I adjust the piano sustain pedal?

How can I adjust the sustain pedal?  I've tried in the Midi Draw section but can't quite figure out how to make it smooth.  Grabbing a "dot" and moving it just doesn't work!!!

There are not actual "adjustments" for this.  Instead, search
Photo Booth > Help for "background holes" (without quotation marks.)
    The most common problems are:
        • Camera movement, (be sure your iMac does not move)
        • lack of light, and
        • not using solid color background that does not move

  • Support for sustain pedal?

    hi all,
i've got a keyboard (midi) and to my extreme surprise i realize it does not have a sustain pedal input...weird huh? anyway I was wondering if any ol' keyboard with midi and a sustain pedal will work. I know the midi stuff works, i'm just wondering if i pick up another one i mean does the sustain through the keyboard work, or what, someting special through mac? I think we can all agree it can be pointless in some cases to play without sustain on a piano.

    SUSTAIN PEDAL SOLUTION
I JUST FOUND A WAY TO KEEP THE SUSTAIN WHEN YOU SAVE THE FILE
JUST OPEN THE SEQUENCER AND PLAY
AND THEN JUST GO TO "FILE" EXPORT AND THEN YOU SAVE IT AS A WAV FILE
YOU'LL HAVE A FILE WITH THE SUSTAIN
    HOPE THIS HELP PEOPLE
