Picking one up today, just want your views...is it worth it?

hey,
im planning on picking up an iphone today, and i just wanted your opinions as iphone users.
is it worth it?? i email alot, i have an ipod touch and love it (il obviously sell it) texts alot and i just want your views as to wether its worth the money.

I don't really think so. But lots of people are disturbed by even small scratches, so get one. The bit you don't want to scratch is the screen, but it's pretty scratch resistant. If you want, you could get a cover for this bit only:

and no, i dont need a bluetooth headset. although i have some shure se310 headphones and i dont no if they will fit in the socket or not. do i need an adapter?
Yes you will, as the headphone recess is non-standard. Griffin and Belkin make adapters you can use.

ITunes and iPad 2...just want to view my music!

I'm trying to set up iTunes so it behaves and appears like it does on my PC. Right now when I click on the iTunes icon on my iPad 2, it goes directly to the iTunes store. I just want it to go directly to my music. Not the store....not purchased songs (which I have very few anyway) not downloads...just take me to my freaking library! These are songs that I put on my iPad from my regular iTunes library. As it is right now, I almost accidentally get to where I want...right now I click on iTunes...then music at the bottom...then downloads (which I have none) then the "purchased" arrrow on the top right...THEN it finally takes me to my actual library. Are there any shortcuts to this?

If you want to go straight to your music use the iPod app, the iTunes app on the iPad is just the iTunes store - the iPod app's icon looks like this :

When I open a document from a website in the browser a copy is saved automatically by download helper even if I just want to view.

When I click to view a word, excel, PDF or other file on a website I am presented with a window that says
"you have chosen to open ........etc What should Firefox do with this file?
Open with
Save file....."
If I choose the option "Open with" the file opens and I can view the file but the file is automatically downloaded and saved. I then have to navigate to the folder on my hard drive by right clicking on the item in the downloads window, selecting open containing folder and then physically deleting the file. If I don't do this then the containing folder saves the unwanted downloaded file.
Do I have a setting wrong/how can I stop Firefox/download helper from automatically downloading files I only want to view?

A new tab opens by default as a blank tab (about:blank).
If that isn't the case then an extension has changed that behavior.

Can't get it working - just want to view another desktop on my home network

I need to be able to view (not control) the desktop of my PowerMac that is connected to my Zoom DSL modem in another room. I want to view that desktop from my MacBook Pro connected wirelessly to the modem.
The PowerMac is running Mac OS X 10.3.9.
The MacBook Pro is running Mac OS X 10.4.11.
On the Zoom modem I've turned on port forwarding for port 5900 (is this necessary?).
On the PowerMac I have turned on Apple Remote Desktop in the Sharing preferences, and opened port 5900. On the MacBook Pro I have installed Chicken of the VNC, but it can not connect to the PowerMac. I can login to the PowerMac and share files using Mac OS X, and I can successfully ping the PowerMac with Network Utility. But when I try to port scan the PowerMac the scan proceeds for several minutes without finding anything (scanning the range 5900-5910).
When I try to connect using CVNC the error is "Connection Refused:Conect()".
I'm working at the very edge of my understanding of networking here. I'm really not sure about how I've done things, and I have no idea how to troubleshoot this.

Okay, I'm going to answer my own question. I needed to update my ARD client to 2.1 to get this working. Latest is 2.2 so I may try that next, but for now 2.1 is working fine.

When connecting the Camera Connection Kit to a camera or SD card all you see are the thumbnails of the photos. I suggest you review those, select the photos you might want to see full screen, then import them to your iPad. After viewing them you can always delete them if you no longer want them on your iPad.
I also suggest Keeping the photos on your camera or SD card until you import the to your computer and back them up to at least one other location.

How do I NOT save a file every time I open a PDF file, open an attachment, etc.? I know how to set the option to change the save location, but in some cases I just want to VIEW not SAVE a file that I read while browsing

Firefox needs to download and save a file before passing it to a plugin.
You can set the Boolean pref browser.helperApps.deleteTempFileOnExit to true on the about:config page to remove such files.
To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website. 
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page. 
*Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
*Preferences that have been modified show as bold (user set).
*Preferences can be reset to the default via the right-click context menu if they are user set
*Preferences can be changed via the right-click context menu: Modify (String or Integer) or Toggle (Boolean)

Well, I'm used to program in Java (Lightly), mostly, and now I want to develop a software Mac-Only.
What I'll try to create is a ID3 Tag Editor, but I don't know if I'm able to do it yet.
I started reading an Objective-C book and understood what was explained so far, but looks for me that what I want to program will go beyond the basics.
So, what I wanted is: will I be able to program a program as complex as I want? If yes, could you give me some guidelines?

Since you didn't specify a time frame, the answer is "yes"... eventually.

You didn't say whether your primary interest is learning to program, or developing your own tag editor. If your focus is learning, then you might someday wish to program your own binary editor directly from the MP3 file format specification. If you're more interested in the finished product, you should consider a third party library that does the heavy lifting (e.g. [id3lib|http://id3lib.sourceforge.net>).
In either case, if you're new to programming, I would recommend a much easier project for your first OS X app. I think the very best way to get started would be to get +Cocoa Programming for Mac OS X (3rd Edition)+ by Aaron Hillegass. After you've worked through the first half or so of that book, you can start to think seriously about building your editor with a library. If you're not ready yet, continue to study Hillegass as well as the many other resources you'll find as you learn how to use the [Mac Dev Center|http://developer.apple.com/devcenter/mac/index.action].

I just want to view photos from a CD. How do I do that?

I installed a CD-RW with scanned photos in my disk drive. How do I get the MacBookPro to let me view the photos? VMWare seems to take over with a Windows viewer. Can I disable that & get, maybe iPhoto to let me view those scanned photos? Or Adobe Photoshop (installed on my Mac)? don't know how to do all this.

Both Photoshop and iPhoto are resource hungry and will take awhile to read from the slow optical drive. You are better off seeing if the disc mounts and dragging the pictures to a folder on the desktop. Then you can either import them into iPhoto, browse them with Photoshop or select all, and right click open with Preview.

Firefox always downloads pdf to desktop on mac when I just want to view them, how do I fix this?

hi - There must be a setting off or something, but on my MacBook pro, when using Firefox and Thunderbird email, every time I open an attachment, it automatically saves it to my desktop. My desktop is getting very cluttered and I need to fix this!

You would have to change the location of the temp folder in the Safari settings (system wide).

2 photo streams on my iphone 4s in albums - I just want one to sync with iCloud

I have 2 photo streams on my iphone 4s - I just want one to sync with iCloud.
When I go into my Albums 2 show up as Photo Stream under my Camera Roll and even using edit I can't delete the blank one.
I just want one that syncs photos I take to the iCloud and to delete the other.
Help please - its a 4GS version 5.01.

Photo stream only maintains photos in photo stream for 30 days, although they will remain on your devices until deleted. Chances are only 56 of your photos were added within the last 30 days. At this point, the best course of action is either to copy the remaining photos in a new album in iPhoto, then sync them to your phone by selecting the album on the Photos tab of your iTunes sync settings and syncing. An alternative is to copy them to a folder, then use an app like PhotoSync to wirelessly transfer photos in the folder to your phone.

Want to view one file in TimeMachine

I changed one file by mistake this morning. Its an XCode Class file. I want to go look at the code I had before. I just did a time machine backup yesterday.
Can I look at the file in TM without restoring it to my macbook air? I just want to see the old version because I think I fixed the mistaken-change on my current one. I just want to look at the old backed-up version and make sure.

You can do this with some files. Go to the folder that the file was saved, open Time Machine, navigate to the backup and double-click that file. If it doesn't show, restore this file

Here's an easy way:
Pick the user that you want to eliminate (making sure that the remaining user has administrator privileges) and move all of the data that you want to keep into the Shared folder. Reboot or log out and login to the user you want to keep. Copy all the data from the Shared folder into your account - placing it neatly in folders (Documents, Music, Movies, etc.).
Once the data is moved, log into the account you want to delete just once more to make certain that you've grabbed all the data you want to keep. Log out and log back into your admin account and go to System Preferences>Users & Groups and delete the 'old' user.
That should do it.

It sounds like you have a credit card saved to your Apple ID payment information and you would like it to be removed from the account and set the payment method to None. You should be able to do this with the following article:

Tap Settings on the Home screen.
Tap iTunes & App Stores.
Tap your Apple ID. (If you aren't signed in, enter your Apple ID and password and tap Sign In.)

Update the information that you want to change.
Tap the Done button when you're finished.
