Picking pictures in a folder by typing in file name

When I am working in Bridge and have a long list of reprints that I need to print from a wedding I just go to that wedding folder and type in the file number of the first picture.  This pictue is then highlighted and I give it a two star (or whatever) rating.  I do this for all of the pictures on my list so when I am done all of the pictures to reprint have a two star rating.  I just move these into a temporary folder and retouch and print from this folder.   Is there a way to do this in Lightroom?  I am new to Lightroom and cannot find a way to do this.

You can rename the way you want. Like Paige says, select your images and hit F2.
Now it gets a wee bit tricksy:
Choose Custom Name - Sequence in the File Naming: box:
Now if you go with that one, there won't be any leading zeros, so click on Custom Name and choose Edit...
Click on "Sequence # (1) and choose one that has enough leading zeros that the sort order will be maintained, probably 3 or 4 should do it. See the arrorw.  Before you click Done, click in the Preset box at the top and choose "Save Current Settings as New Preset". You don't want to go through this every time.
Now hit "Done".
Type custom text of your choice in the Custom Text: box and hit OK.

    I'm not sure, but I know it's not recommended to upgrade to iOS 8 on anything older than an iPhone 5. I only lost my music playlists and music that was on my phone, but that music is also on my iTunes, not the playlists though, and I don't want to go through ALL my iTunes library to fix it either... But it seems I don't have a choice right now.
    Whatever you do, do NOT upgrade to iCloud Drive, keep iCloud till OS X Yosemite comes out, if your computer is a Mac. I also just noticed that all my documents on my phone are gone from Pages, BUT if I go on the iCloud website they are still there. Hopefully it will all work itself out when I can update my macbook pro to OS X Yosemite.
    If you backed up your phone and all your purchases off your iPhone prior to trying to upgrade you should be fine... But I'm not even remotely sure.

  • IWeb 1.12 bug: folder-photos have original file names!?!?

    Hi, I've been using iWeb for a while now, but came across a strange bug which creates a problem for me. I had about 180 jpg photos on my mac which originally had particular file names. I manually changed the file names in the finder (for each of these - say, from a file name that might have been something like 1a.jpg to one that might be 1-Wayne.jpg, then drag-drop imported them into iPhoto, reordered them in iPhoto, then exported to iWeb (onto two pages since it will only take 99 photos on any one page), then exported from iWeb to a folder that I plan to upload to a server.
    I noticed while trolling through the newly-created folder with the images, that while some of the file names are the new ones, quite a few of them retain the old file names! How the heck did that happen? Since in the published website (i.e. via a browser) all the new names show, it is not a problem for the website per se. But I am also making an image-map file which links to these photos, and since I have so many photos, it is very confusing since some of the files that iWeb created use the new file names, whereas others use the old names. I would rather recycle the iWeb-created images rather than to upload entirely new ones (e.g. with the new names).
    Anyone know what's going on here? Solutions or workarounds?
    Baffled and flustered,
    Wayne

    Welcome to Apple Discussions,
    You are doing nothing wrong.
    I have noticed the same behavior change between iPhoto '08 and iPhoto '09.
    When you make a change to the name of the Event that name change takes place within the database that governs the iPhoto Library of pictures, not in the "physical" structure of the iPhoto Library (as you pointed out).
    Any changes you need to make should be made through the iPhoto interface (iPhoto is an image organizer after all. Thats what it's made for.), not by going inside the iPhoto Library package (Which is where you see those folder names. Making any changes within the package can damage the library. )
    That said if you think that the naming structure is a feature you would like to see in future versions of iPhoto you can let Apple know. iPhoto > Provide iPhoto Feedback.
    Hope that helps.

  • Batch Folder renaming according to file name.

    Hi,
    I work in a busy photostudio and I am currently using automator to process thousands of Images, compression, size, name changes ect. However there is just one process I am stuck on. I need to put these Images into folders that relate to the file name. I have a process that will do this that I found here. This works well but i need it to only look at a certain part of the file name.
    For example if I had a collection of images like this,
    azz55412_blue_3.jpg
    azz55412_pink_2.jpg
    azz55412_blue_6.jpg
    azz78459_blue_1.jpg
    azz78459_blue_3.jpg
    azz65236_blue_7.jpg
    The current process would place each one in a folder named after each image. Ideally I would like it to only look at the first part of the name ie azz55412 and create a folder called that and place any other images it finds with the same code in that folder.
    Is this possible with automator or applescript?
    Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Mark

    Save the line below into a plain text file and give it the .jsx extension.
    app.activeDocument.activeLayer.name = decodeURI(app.activeDocument.name).match(/(.*)(\.[^\.]+)/)[1];
    Then create an action that runs that script. Then run File-Automate-Batch using that action.

  • How do I put single pictures into one folder and then give a name to folder

    I have imported some pictures from a memory stick.  They are in a single format and I want to make them into a folder and add a title to the folder.  What do I do to add it to my events?

    In iPhoto menu under "Events" then "Create Event."
    Once you have created and named the new Event you can drag and drop from "Last Import" under "Recents" in the pane on the left to the new event.

  • Import From Folder: How to Extract the File Name in a Custom Column.

    Hello All
    Here´s what we´re trying to do:
    We have a folder with csv files named like this:
    Sales_2013-02-05.csv
    Sales_2013-02-04.csv
    Sales_2013-02-03.csv
    Sales_2013-02-02.csv
    Sales_2013-02-01.csv
    And in the csv files there are the sales columns but not the date column.
    So we want to extract the date from the file name.
    I´ve tried entering = Source[Name] in a custom column, but it adds a "LIST" link, and on a click on expand, it adds ALL file names from the folder in each row, instead of just the needed one.
    If we could get the proper file name in each row (from where they got extracted), we could split the column and get the date from there. But I don´t know how put the filename there properly.
    Can you help?

    This isn't entirely straightforward, but it's definitely possible. What you need to do is to apply all of your transforms to each individual file instead of the combined files. I do that as follows:
    1) Use Folder.Files as generated by the GUI to look at the list of my files.
    2) Pick one file and do all the transformations to it that I want to apply to all of the files. Sometimes, this just amounts to letting the autodetection figure out the column names and types.
    3) Go into the advanced editor and edit my code so that the transformations from step 2 are applied to all files. This involves creating a new function and then applying that function to the content in each row.
    4) Expand the tables created in step 3.
    As an example, I have some files with names that match the ones you suggested. After steps 1 + 2, my query looks like the following:
    let
        Source = Folder.Files("d:\testdata\files"),
        #"d:\testdata\files\_Sales_2013-02-01 csv" = Source{[#"Folder Path"="d:\testdata\files\",Name="Sales_2013-02-01.csv"]}[Content],
        #"Imported CSV" = Csv.Document(#"d:\testdata\files\_Sales_2013-02-01 csv",null,",",null,1252),
        #"First Row as Header" = Table.PromoteHeaders(#"Imported CSV"),
        #"Changed Type" = Table.TransformColumnTypes(#"First Row as Header",{{"One", Int64.Type}, {"Two", type text}, {"Three", type text}})
    in
        #"Changed Type"
    For step 3, I need to take steps 3-5 of my query and convert them into a function. As a check, I can apply that function to the same file that I chose in step 2. The result looks like this:
    let
        Source = Folder.Files("d:\testdata\files"),
        Loader = (file) =>
            let
                #"Imported CSV" = Csv.Document(file,null,",",null,1252),
                #"First Row as Header" = Table.PromoteHeaders(#"Imported CSV"),
                #"Changed Type" = Table.TransformColumnTypes(#"First Row as Header",{{"One", Int64.Type}, {"Two", type text}, {"Three", type text}})
            in
                #"Changed Type",
        #"d:\testdata\files\_Sales_2013-02-01 csv" = Source{[#"Folder Path"="d:\testdata\files\",Name="Sales_2013-02-01.csv"]}[Content],
        Loaded = Loader(#"d:\testdata\files\_Sales_2013-02-01 csv")
    in
        Loaded
    Now I apply the same function to all of the rows, transforming the existing "Content" column into a new value:
    let
        Source = Folder.Files("d:\testdata\files"),
        Loader = (file) =>
            let
                #"Imported CSV" = Csv.Document(file,null,",",null,1252),
                #"First Row as Header" = Table.PromoteHeaders(#"Imported CSV"),
                #"Changed Type" = Table.TransformColumnTypes(#"First Row as Header",{{"One", Int64.Type}, {"Two", type text}, {"Three", type text}})
            in
                #"Changed Type",
        Transformed = Table.TransformColumns(Source, {"Content", Loader})
    in
        Transformed
    Finally, I need to expand out the columns in the table, which I can do by clicking on the expand icon next to the Content column header. The resulting query looks like this:
    let
        Source = Folder.Files("d:\testdata\files"),
        Loader = (file) =>
            let
                #"Imported CSV" = Csv.Document(file,null,",",null,1252),
                #"First Row as Header" = Table.PromoteHeaders(#"Imported CSV"),
                #"Changed Type" = Table.TransformColumnTypes(#"First Row as Header",{{"One", Int64.Type}, {"Two", type text}, {"Three", type text}})
            in
                #"Changed Type",
        Transformed = Table.TransformColumns(Source, {"Content", Loader}),
        #"Expand Content" = Table.ExpandTableColumn(Transformed, "Content", {"One", "Two", "Three"}, {"Content.One", "Content.Two", "Content.Three"})
    in
        #"Expand Content"
    From here, you should be able to get to what you want.

  • Export File Names from a Folder to a Database Program

    Ok, so this one probably fairly simple, I just cant seem to figure out how to do it. I have a folder containing over 200 file names. It is my wish to figure out a way to import all the file names (just the names) into a document, preferably an MS excel doc. I assume their is a way to do this with auditor maybe, but I am not sure. Any one know how to do this.

  • Need script to check for duplicate file names when copying a folder

    Hello,
    I am a new applescript user trying to write what I believe should be a simple script. I was planning on using the "add-new item alert" script as a template.
    Basically I have people copying folders of photos into a library folder, but I don't want the Finder to copy the photo if it already exists in the library. The images in the library are organized into subfolders.
    I need a script that will check all the file names in the new folder against all the file names in the library, and NOT add the new one if it already exists.
    If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated,
    Thanks,
    C

    I have a script that "kind of" works. The only problem I've seen is that it gets confused when filenames contain characters that are fine in Macland but not good in Unixland. Forward slashes are a good example of this.
    In this case I have a folder in my home named "copytest" Inside copytest are two folders:
    Source (containing the images to be added)
    Dest (My existing library of images)
    It also assumes that the folder of images to be added contains no sub-folders. Hope this helps.
    tell application "Finder"
    set theSource to folder "source" of folder "copytest" of home
    set imagesToBeCopied to name of every file of theSource
    end tell
    repeat with theFile in imagesToBeCopied
    try
    if (do shell script "find -r ~/copytest/dest -name " & quoted form of (theFile as string)) is not equal to "" then
    --The file exists. Don't copy it
    else
    --the file doesn't already exist. Copy it.
    end if
    on error
    return "Failed while trying to check for existence of a file"
    end try
    end repeat

    Add new photo to existing calendar folder in iPhoto
    I am making a calendar in iPhoto, picking photos from a folder, let's call it "2011 Pics," in iPhoto. After arranging all the photos and captions I decided I wanted to insert a new photo -- one that was not in "2011 Pics." So I inserted it into the folder, but the picture does not show up on the scrolling menu of pictures at the left of the calendar-making page. This happened last year and in frustration I started all over again. But surely there is a way to add a new picture to a calendar that is already laid out.

    Yes, the Old Master file has a folder for each year where I find all photos from that specific year. I am attaching a screen shot of the file.
    In the meantime i have managed to download all photos (it did not download any video files though in mpg, avi, 3gp, m4v,mp4 and mov format) to a new iphoto library. Unfortunately the photos are quite mixed and often doubled up. I ma considering to purchase iphoto library which checks all duplicates in iphoto. this will save me a lot of time. What do you think?

  • Images not in "~/Pictures/iPhoto Library" folder not properly handled

    One of the features I was grateful for in iPhoto 6 is the ability to NOT import photos into the ~/Pictures/iPhoto Library" folder. This meant I could use iPhoto to view and edit photos without duplicating a folder structure I use for my photo files.
    Unfortunately, I have now discovered that any program that attempts to access photos through the iPhoto API can see the previews for these images, but can not actually access the images. This means the "Desktop & Screen Saver PrefPane" can see the iPhoto previews, but fails to load an image for the Desktop (or Screen Saver). NOTE: It does appear that iMovie does see the photos properly, but other non-iLife portions of the MacOS don't.
    Anyone got a fix for this? I suspect it is a bug in the iPhoto sharing API, but I am hoping someone might have a fix.

    I don't think there is an API for iPhoto, or at least I cannot find it anywhere. Any integration with iPhoto is purely a hack.
    If you can find documentation for an API, please let me know.

    can't save pictures on original folder position after edit, get save popup to save at different position, also still on toubles to get them back to original folder positon since I'm upgraded to IOS7 on IPad2.

    I say the problem is probably noted, and probably will be resolved. Not that i can speak for Apple.  I find the "problems" of wallpaper to be pretty minor compared to the advantages of iOS 7.  The fun of wallpaper has always been pretty insignificant here.

    I don't think you can. You might ensure that their creation dates are in order, but I'm not so such that will help. Ordering seems to be a feature limited to use with iPhoto/Aperture.

    If you are using List mode, you can click on the first, then Shift-Click on the last, and all the files between the first and the last will also be selected.
