PICS IN ALL SORTS OF FILES AND ACCOUNTS
I am trying to get together all the pictures on my computer in one file, so I can sort them out.
My mac has been used by different people over the time, and I myself have a business and a private account. Very confusing!
I am 'the administrator' and have access to all files and accounts, but is there a simple way to just get them all together, put them in one I-Photo file and re-arrange them (and throw most out).

First - unless you want to lose all edits, albums and projects do not modify the iPhoto library in any way - do not delete, move or modify images within the iPhoto library or you will corrupt it and not be able to use it
As to other photos - search for all files with .JPG in their name and import the ones you want into iPhoto - you may want to archive them and then (assuming that you are using a managed library) you can delete them from their location outside of the iPhoto library
But you want to organize them before you import them to iPhoto - once they are in iPhoto you must use iPhoto for all organization - never the finder

Hi, I am going to reset my Macbook Pro to factory settings but I would like to back it up first. I have backed it up to an external Hard Drive so if I were to wipe the laptop, would i be able to retrieve all of my files and applications. (Office Mac, Adobe CS6, Logic Pro)
When OS X asks you to restore a backup, it will allow you to select what you want to restore from the backup, Just select the things you need, because if you select everything, you will be in the same status as before restoring the Mac to factory settings. This has nothing to do with erasing the hard drive
It's OK to make backups with Time Machine -
If i purchase mountain lion will it wipe my hard drive or will i keep all of my files and applications
Simply connect an external hard drive to it. Format it if it's not labeled as made for Mac using Disk Utility.
I'd recommend backing it up using Time Machine. Your Macbook should ask you if you want this drive to be used for Time Machine....you do.
Once the backup is done you can, later on, use the backup drive to migrate everything to your new iMac. -

my utorrent client suddenly lost all the torrent files and just run without working I MEAN DOES TAKE ANY NEW TORRENT FILE TO DOWNLOAD.
i also Install the bittorrent client and afterwhile did the same

Hi, since i put some mp4 video or DVD files on my external hard drives final cut prox won't recognize my hard drives, i move all the video files and the problem still exist. somebody have the solution
Did the back and forth between PC and Mac file systems screw up my files somehow?
Yes. Unfortunately the move has almost certainly caused the loss of the resource data that would have been (invisibly) attached to those files.
By adding a specific .mov extension after the fact you will have helped the Mac correctly identify the file type / asscoiations but also significantly you will have physically changed the filename eg from "clip" to "clip.mov". This means that when you come to reconnect the media in FCP , then FCP will be looking for files that no longer exist at the given path eg when specifically looking for our example clip called "clip" of course it won't find it.
Try this as a test... first remove the ".mov" extension from one or more of the clips, select those clips and press Cmd-Opt-I to open an Info window for the selection. You'll see an "Open with:" popup and in that popup you should choose QuickTime Player (if its a Unix Executable then it will initially list Terminal as the appropriate app, you have to choose Other... then in the open dialog choose Enable > All Applications and then navigate to and select the Quicktime Player app as the appropriate app). After you've done that restart FCP and see if you can now reconnect to those clips. -
I used MobileMe/idisk to hold all of my files and access from my iPad. It worked beautifully. What is the best way to do that now?
In particular, I am having issues with documents that already exist on my Mac and trying to get my iPad to access them.A popular option seems to be DropBox.

I lost my Ipad, the serial number is DMOJ2N70DVD1 . Im worried they will acces my file and account on the Ipad.IF you have not done so already, you need to sign up for ICloud at www.icloud.com. Sign in with your Apple account. From there you can locate your iPad if it is turned on. iCloud allows you wipe your iPad clean if necessary. Oh and don't put you iPad serial number out there. Someone may be able to hack into your account.

Is it possible to move my iTunes from the old laptop to the new one (including all the music files and playlists) without having to start all over again with a blank iTunes?
yes
You will need to copy the whole iTunes folder which is in your user profile on the old computer in Music folder.
Before you do it make sure iTunes are updates on the old computer and it works without any problems.
This will copy all your media, music, movies (provided you did not change the default location).
After the migration you will need to sing in to Apple store again with your Apple ID
and also authorize your new computer (both done from the tom menu bar in Store.
Once you are done please deauthorize your old computer (the same menu path) if you are not planning to use it anymore.

i just wrote over firefox 3.6 with 5.0 for my mac OSX and discovered my mac won't support it. Is there a way I can recover all my lost files and get the old version back?

Apple Updates: This is just to report a problem. I updated recently and on restart the computer restored up my 2012 desktop with all my 2014 files and data including stickies missing!!! Now I hesitate to do another Apple update. What would you do?
If all your files are missing
You may have logged in as a different user, such as Guest. Open the Users & Groups pane in System Preferences. Your name should be at the top of the user list, under Current User. See also this support article.
If files are missing from one folder
Change the Finder view mode; for example, from icon view to list view, or vice versa.
If files are present, but seem outdated
You may have started up from a different volume (disk.) Open the Startup Disk preference pane and check the selection. -
My fonts are changing in iWed after I publish. I need step by step instructions on how to go to my third party server and clear out all of my files and reload my whole website, the solution I saw posted by another. Please someone help me on this. Urgent
If your fonts are changing when viewed on other computers - epecially those running windows - you need to look at using web-safe fonts...

I have recently wanted to switch to the windows platform so I could get more games from steam. I was wondering what happens to all of my files and what will happen to Mac apps like iwork. Will I have to purchase the microsoft version?
Nothing happens to your files and "Mac apps". You install Windows on a new partition separate from OSx. Read the Boot Camp manuals. http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/

Why doesn't my new Thunderbird account see my migrated email files and account info?
Said bye to Win XP and did clean install of Win 7. Have tried 3 dif methods described at

Somewhere I read:
Find the "Mozilla" (for Mozilla Suite/SeaMonkey 1.x), "SeaMonkey" (for SeaMonkey 2),
"Firefox", or "Thunderbird" folder in the profile folder path that contains the registry.dat
file or profiles.ini file and the "Profiles" folder (Windows and Mac)...
My understanding was that all I needed to back up was the profile folder and all below it and transfer it to my new Thunderbird Win 7 location. I have no registry.dat file or profiles.ini file.Umm, that looks OK. I was wondering if it had inserted an extra layer of folders; when moving from XP to W7 myself, I found it had separated the profile data into a new subfolder, Profiles, but you already have that and it's correctly declared in the profiles.ini file.
I'm puzzled. Just to check, the folder named pf8j2npn.default should contain, amongst other things, folders named Mail and ImapMail, and files such as prefs.js, abook.mab and history.mab

Clear the "include account names" checkbox. Click the "copy text to clipboard" button, use paste (ctrl+v) to paste into your next reply here. Feel free to chop out anything you consider too personal (but please leave server names), and we don't need all the stuff about fonts and printers. But I'm not expecting it to list very many accounts. :-(
