Picture Dropshadow w/ Transparent Background

Bit of a new user here. Anyway, in CS5 I'm trying to make some pictures have a drop shadow effect with a transparent background so they can be posted on various background colors or patterns. The problem being that when I save, the background is either white or has artifacts. I have tried creating a new transparent background layer, enlarging, adding the drop shadow, cropping as needed and saving as gif or png with transparency selected to no avail. Let me know if there's another way.
Thanks for any help

Are you trying to hide the background behind the ciclid? So that only the fish shows? thats what a female convict right? or very young male.
Edit: i see now trying to get the picture its self to show a shadow.

  • Save picture with keeping transparent background

How can I save a picture as JPEGG and keep de transparent background?

You can not as jpg does not support Transparency.
You might be able to save it with a Path and use the Path in a layout application but that is technically not proper Transparency.
For that you would need to save the image in a file format that does support it (psd, png24, …).

  • Help! Transparent Backgrounds in Pics Keep Disappearing

I'm hoping someone out there can help me! I've used picture images with transparent backgrounds throughout my site. They work well except when I try using them in the photo layout template. When I initially add the photos they have the transparent background and I'm able to save and reopen with the transparency preserved. However, every time I shut down iWeb then reopen the file later a white background has been substituted for the transparency. It doesn't matter what file format I use (.png, .gif, .pdf....). If I open the original in Photoshop, transparency is still there. It's weird since it's only the images in the photo template not anywhere else on my site.
This is driving me insane. Has anyone else encountered this and can provide some guidance?
    Much appreciated,
    Dodge

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. iPhoto does not have to be closed to use it, just idle. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • How do I get picture control to display PNG images with transparent background?

I have an image of a robot arm looking from the top with a transparent background and saved as PNG. When I drag the image directly to LabVIEW front panel, the image shows properly with the transparent background, but I want to manipulate it such as rotate the image. I used the Read from PNG.vi to read the image to a picture control, but the background isn't transparent anymore. Am I missing something?
    Please help.

unclebump gets 5 stars for referring you to a document that I wrote.
Incidentally, I wrote it years back, for LabVIEW 7.0.  A couple of notes to summarize:
The picture control doesn't "really" support transparency.  However, the image data type supports masking, and stores the alpha channel, if present in your image data.  So you use the "Create Mask By Alpha.vi" referenced in that document to mask out pixels whose transparency is above a certain level.  It does not support partial transparency.  You could try to implement your own blending algorithm based on the picture control's current pixel values, and the image data's RGB value and transparency value, but it would probably be very slow.
Also, that VI ships with 8.0 and later.  I don't know if it's on the palettes but it lives here:  vi.lib\picture\picture.llb\Create Mask By Alpha.vi
    Good luck!

  • Creating PDFs from documents with graphics having transparent background

I came across this problem when making PDFs of PowerPoint presentations but I have found that the same thing happens in Word.
PDFs created from documents containing graphics having transparent backgrounds end up being very large (usually much larger than the source documents) and rendering slowly on the screen. The graphics are either JPGs with background set as transparent using the Set Transparent Color tool on the picture toolbar in MS Office applicatons, or PNGs that already have transparent backgrounds when inserted in the document. PDFs made from the same documents in which the graphics do not have transparent backgrounds are much smaller and render more quickly.
When I try to select the graphics in the resulting PDFs using the Touch-up Object tool, I find that each graphic is actually made up of many individual graphic lines. Graphics without a transparent background select as a single object.
I have tried several PDF creation tools and all kinds of settings but nothing seems to make much of a difference. The only way I can get a reasonable file size is to reduce resolution in the PDF creation settings to the point that they are unacceptable.
This happens to me in the following applications:
    * MS Word 2003
    * MS PowerPoint 2003
I have tried these PDF creation tools:
    * Acrobat 7 Pro
    * JAWS PDF Creator 3.60
    * Bullzip PDF Printer 6.0
Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a solution?
    Thanks.

Well we can color this one solved. What I figured out I can do is have the application tell Word to print-to-file using an Apple LaserWriter (or other PostScript) printer, and put the resulting file in a folder that is being watched by Distiller. Distiller then converts the PS document to PDF and I'm in business.
So no change in the user process, and no need to crack open a new API and add it to the existing application. Works for me.
Thanks to all for the suggestions and specific links and other information of interest...

  • Can I turn greenscreen video into video with transparent background (instead of default black backgr

Can I turn greenscreen video into video with transparent background to  overlay on another video in another program.  probably export as avi.     I know I can in after effects  but comfortable with premiere.   basically want to turn the greenscreen from a black to transparent background  ppro cs6     windows
[ email address removed by forum host ]

Harm is correct. It would be better to edit in the program where you keyed out the green. However, if you really must ...
DPX is one file per frame. While you may not be able to open it from Windows, it is only because Windwos has not been told to open them in Photoshop.
The whole point of the DPX file is to have a visually lossless storage of your frames that is designed to be used between applications (just what you want to do): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Picture_Exchange
However, if you prefer to use another option that you are more comfortable with, you can use PNG.
    Or...
If you insist on a single video, use the Animation codec for Quicktime.
In any case, you need a picture format or video CODEC that can store an Alpha Channel.
    Or.....
Export the video with the black and use a Luma key in the next application.
    Or ...
Export the video with the black, and then export a video of just the alpha channel as a blabk and white image where black is transparent when used as a track matte, and then in the next application use the video of the alpha channel as a track matte.
Since you haven't said what the other application is or why you want to use it, we are having a little trouble offering a specific solution.

  • PICT file (transparent background) - motion (from off screen left to right)

I have a PICT file with a transparent background. I imported it and put it in a track above a photo. Basically I just want to to go from off screen left to off screen right. I tried selecting the pict image, going to the motion tab and using keyframes in the ‘centre’ option to move the image off to the sides. The problem is that when I view it, its almost like every second/third line of pixels lags (Making the edges jagged).
The edges of the image are fine when there is no motion, and it seems to get worse the more distance it is traveling.
The only thing I have changed is the 'quick time video settings compressor'; it is ‘none’ because that is the only way I could find that wouldn’t end up messing up the sides of the image when I imported it.
I have been using final cut for about 3 hours? So I am not sure what to do, or if I am even approaching this problem the right way. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated
I am currently trying to find a way to get a screen shot, but can’t get it to paste into any programs I have….

Edit: this happens when ever I do any scaling/movement/rotation/etc...
Here is an example of what I mean:

  • Rendering transparent background for website video

I have a comp for a website that I'm doing.
I have a transparent background and some fading in WHITE text with a light ray animated behind it.
I have followed instructions on how to render with the transparency intact (Quicktime, PNG, RGB+Alpha, Millions of Colors+).  When I render it out and watch it in Quicktime, the light ray isn't correct and there's no transparency.  Same thing with Final Cut Pro.
When I bring the footage back into AE, the transparency is there so I'm assuming that the transparency is there but QT & FC just don't play transparency files.
I need the transparency bc I want the text to reveal over a background picture I have in my webpage design.
Is there anyway to get this done right?  I need the file to NOT be 300+ megabytes and when I drag the clip into COMPRESSOR to make it smaller, nothing is showing on the preview screen.  I've been doing some research but haven't found anything to make it work correctly.
Can someone help me with this?
In the end, what I'm attempting to do is add the QT video into my iWeb page and have it play. I'm not a coder so I don't know how to make this happen any other way than making a QT movie and then adding it iWeb.
    thanks in advance.

The only video format that supports transparency in a web browser is a flash player. That really doesn't fully support transparency either. The QuickTime player or any other video player will never ever support transparency in a web browser. Your project design is flawed from the outset. Another words you cannot do what you are trying to do using QuickTime. You will have to redesign for flash. If you redesign with flash, then you will not have a mobile compatible application.
I don't have much of an explanation of what you are trying to accomplish with your project so I can't give you more pointers than that. Point us to a website that has the features you are trying to implement on your webpage and maybe we can give you some ideas but After Effects is not where you should be looking.

  • How to set up transparent background in kdestopk?

My goal is to put four different background image (wallpapers) on each face of my Compiz-Fusion cube.
However, the Compiz wiki says that if kdesktop draws background already, it will cover Compiz's backgrounds.
Then, I noticed that kdemod has this http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.ph … tent=59864
and it is supposed to give me transparent background.
    I added BackgroundOpacity=0 in ~/.kde/share/config/kdesktoprc
    But nothing changed.
Can some one give a little help?
    Thanks

Like a picture behind the apps on the home screen? I think that is the wallpaper. That isn't supported on the 3rd gen. iPod touch. Only the 4th. Sorry.

  • Transparent background - export to iMovie?

I'm pretty new to FCE/LiveType; I've played a bit with creating titles in LifeType with a transparent background and moved them over to FCE. I have an unfinished project in iMovie 06 and was wondering if I could create a LiveType title with a transparent background and import it into iMovie?

I made a 3 second test title (animated), and then went to "render -> movie"; appeared on desktop as test.mov file. Dragged that into iMovie. Did not knowingly convert that to .dv.
I then created another one, simply went to "save" and it appeared as test.ipr on the desktop. Dragged that one into iMovie as well (no conversion there either).
Both played fine, both had black backgrounds. AFAIK, there are no options in iMovie to set/change the default black background color. Maybe iMovie automatically converts to .dv during import? And, as I mentioned, it occurred to me that it simply may not work because I can't "superimpose" it onto an image or clip in iMovie anyway unless I can find a plugin that will let me insert "picture within picture" or similar. It may be that I only have two options:
Either import an image/clip into LiveType, create the text, render as movie and then import into iMovie, or create text, save as .ipr, import into FCE, export and back into iMovie.
Thanks for spending all this time on this, I appreciate it!

  • How do i make a transparent background in Photoshop Elements 13

how do i make a transparent background in Photoshop Elements 13

    Open the picture file
Use one of the selection tools to select the foreground
Place the selection on its own layer (Layer>New>Layer via copy or CTRL+J) - this will be Layer 1
    Delete the background layer
If you want to save it, use a file format which supports transparency, e.g.PNG

  • Transparent Background Problems

Ihave been working for days on creating a logo. I created a logo on a transparent backgroud and saved it as a png file so it would be transparent. when I go to place the logo on my pictures it has a square grayish/white background and is not transparent at all. How do i get rid of it? I have watched so many videos and tried doing it so many ways and it turns out the same way everytime. Am I doing something wrong or missing a step. I would greatly appreciate any feedback. Thank you!
    Nichole Lowe

I created my logo using photoshop elements. I used a transparent background layer and created the logo that had many layers to it. I saved it as a png. I'm not sure what a png 8 or 24 is. I just brought down the drop down menu when I clicked save as and saved it as a png. On the right hand side of elements is were the layers are. There are no layers under my background layer they are all above it. I'm not really savvy with a computer or I would post my logo and show you the white square that surrounds it. Thank you for your help

I'm trying to import a picture that has a transparent backgound so when i layer it over video its just the picture itself not the canvas it was made on.
In photo shop I made it on a transparent canvas.
    Whats my next step?

  • Transparent Background Not Working

Hey guys, I have an image that I am trying to save just the foreground of and make the background transparent. I think Im doing everything correctly in photoshop, but when I embed the image into another photoshop file its on a white background instead of having no background like I want. Links are images of what it looks like while saving and what its embedding as in the next file.
Saving this as png: Gyazo - 9ef2fed6e86b8b081cdbf418160fce4f.png
When embedding in another photoshop project: Gyazo - 18fe30a53c01fa7dc8428a308d9c0269.png
    Thank you for any help!
EDIT: It looks like the issue is in "Layer 3" in the first picture. It overlays white and black which is only partly opaque. Is there a different way to get this kind of adjustment (darken the middle and whiten the edges) in a way that doesn't interfere with the transparent background?

    Good day!
Please post the images on this Forum directly.
And please post a screenshot with the Layers Panel (with Thumbnails) visible.
