Picture file type

I took a screen image on Mac OS 8.6. It generated a picture n file.
I copied the file to mac os 10.4.11. Had some trouble viewing. Finally got a view by setting gif extension. Would not upload image to fickr.
What is the file type of picture files.
Robert

Open the PICT file in Preview. Then do a Save As and select JPEG format. Make sure the file is called "image name".jpg & then upload to Flickr.

  • Best point to change picture file type

Is there any way of changing camera file type from JPG to say PNG at the point of import the pictures from my camera to Elements Organizer.  As far I know the camera only sends jpeg format.  It seems like a long way to have to bring them all in to organizer, pass them to edit and resave each file individually as a changed file type?  If someone can give me a better way I would certainly appreciate the information.

At import, you cannot change file types.
It is not clear why you want photos to be .png files. As I understand things, .png files are not a good choice for photographs.
Nevertheless, you can change file types in bulk via the Editor command File->Process Multiple Files. Again, I honestly don't think you are gaining anything by changing .jpg files to something else, so unless you have reasons that I have never heard, I would advise that you leave them as .jpg.

  • File Load - Valuation of File Type

    Hello
In an application we successfully created a "Picture" load to the database.
This "Picture Load" is only required for "Picture" file types. e.g. JPEG etc
I looking for ideas for valuating the file type as currently if the wrong file type is entered the load fails and crashes the application.
    Any ideas very welcome
    Regards
    Pete

    Dear Arie & Dan
I agree fully with your conclusions. In the days of OLTP (online terminal processing), before PCs, we split valuation into two parts ... level 1 & 2.
Level1 was the simple checks ... are fields of the correct value type e.g. numeric, dates etc
Level2 was the data checks ... are the records on file etc
If level 1 valuation failed you would display the error message and not go on to level 2 valuation
Today, Javascirpts can do the level1 valuation. This saves on network and centre processing time. The end user does not wait to be told about a basic error.
In addition, javascirpts can held static data like date or colour pickers. Apex has good functions for these tasks but requires network and centre process time. This is fine if you and the end user have the recourses to give good response times. In most cases the end user gets a far poorer performance from central processed function vs the local Javascipt running in thier browser.
Aire, my understand of Javascrits is poor (but learning fast). Within the contents of a APEX application where do I add the Javascript code and how does it get called.
i.e. I beleive the Javascrit goes in the header and a commended is added to the button (I sure the format of this)?
    Please can help me?
    Thank to you both

  • Can't import pictures I once could  Unrecognized file type

I recently had to reinstall some system software because my computer wouldn't reboot. When I opened up iPhoto 5 nothing was there. I went to a back up and imported the latest Librarty. When I went to import the rest of the photos I got this error message... "The following files could not be imported (they may be an unrecognized file type or the files may not contain vallid data)." All my pictures are the same file type and size and come from the same camera. They all open in the Preview application.

    Diane
Are they in the iPhoto Library Folder? Because iPhoto wont import pics from the iPhoto Library Folder - a precaution against duplication. Drag them to the desktop and try again.

  • Can no longer send pictures in text that I once did. "Unsupported file type"

The other day my phone began saying I could not longer send pictures in MMS. Pictures I sent the previous week are now an unsupport file type.  They are .jpg and .pngs.  I have to take a screenshot of them all now, crop out the excess stuff, and then send them.

Taking a screenshot or cropping will tell nothing  .mov or .wmv format for example looks the same, one is supported by Apple QuickTime the other with Microsoft Windows Media Player, it's all in the codec. What is the exact file type? Or in what format were they saved and with what?

  • How Can I Save Picture as an .ico File Type (icon)?

Hello. I have a picture that I want to use for an application's icon, and I was hoping that I could create the icon in PhotoShop Elements 6.
I do not see any way to do this, however. That file-type option is not available in either "Save As" or "Export."
Does anyone know how to do this?
I did a Google search and saw where I would need to download a plug-in. If this is true, can anyone recommend a good plug-in? (I'm a little paranoid about what I download on my computer).
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

The Best way to create a .ico is in Photoshop Extended (photoshop CC cannot).
    open your file,
size it edit all the way you want,
    then Image/Mode/
set the color to RGB Color (only) and
              set it to 8 bits/channel.
it will give you a message
               click ok or yes.
       4. Then save as
and in the Format dropdown choose, ICO,
                 save it
then gives you a choice of Standard ICO and PNG,
I pick Standard ICO and click ok. you done.

  • How do I change the desktop Icon for an external hard drive?  I have gone to "Get Info" and tried dragging and dropping  several formats of pictures and the icon changes to the generic image of that file type.

how can I change the desktop icon for an external hard drive.  Using LaCies and Dimple hard drives.

One of the things I've found with OS X (at least with Snow Leopard, which is my first excursion into OS X), is that all too often the thumbnail displayed on a file, whether a file created or one downloaded, is a false thumbnail. That is, when you do a Get Info on the file the icon in the upper left is the generic icon for that file type, rather than the thumbnail displayed in Finder. Makes it a bit difficult to copy.
Apparently Finder uses Preview in the background to generate the displayed thumbnail without actually creating one.
What I've resorted to doing, particularly with graphic images, is to process them with GraphicConverter - I have its prefs set to automatially add thumbnails and previews. With an individual file this means opening it in GC and doing a Save As. However, a much easier and faster way is when there are two or more such files; I put them in a common folder and drop the folder onto GC. GC then opens them in a catalog view, in the process adding real thumbnails and previews to each automatically. Doesn't take long to do several hundred files that way.

  • Set file type associations in Adobe Bridge for Photoshop CS6

Is there a way I can edit the registry so that in Adobe Bridge, under edit, preferences, file type associations, the jpg extension is forced to use the 32-bit version of Photoshop?  I can do it manually, but is there a registry key i can export to apply it to multiple computers?

Yes, in theory, but it is generally not recommended. But that location would depend on what OS you are on. This video give the locations for the Photoshop files, Bridge would just be in a neighboring folder: http://tv.adobe.com/watch/the-complete-picture-with-julieanne-kost/how-to-reset-photoshop- cs6s-preferences-file/

  • Suppress the Default File Types dialogue, Office 2013 C2R

    Hi.
We are doing a rather large Office 365 Proplus deployment using click-to-run via SCCM. We have the relevant group policys configured for the most part but we can't figure out how to get rid of the Default File Types dialogue box that pops up during the first
run of any of the Office applications. It asks the user if he/she wants to use Office XML or OpenOffice document formats.
When using the MSI-version and a custom install the administrator can answer this before creating the deployment package, but this is obviously not possible using C2R.
We have tried to set HKEY_USERS\<user_SID>\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Common\General
/v ShownFileFmtPrompt to 1, but it doesn't work. We have also set the default file type for each application but on first run, the dialogue box still shows.
How can we achieve a simple deployment from a user perspective? The picture below is the setting we want to configure.
    Best regards
    Joakim

Dito. This should have been solved when Office 2013 launched and there's still no official solution?

  • Newbie stuck - how do I change the file type of a photo I am formatting from a TIFF to a JPG?

I am new to Aperture and struggling to figure out some of the basics, even with the tutorials.  I need to submit a photo for an art competition - the master is a TIFF and I need a JPG under 1.8 MB - how do I change the new version's file type and keep it with the master?
    Thank you in advance.

I can't recommend the method proposed by Carolyn Samit; in fact, I recommend ignoring it.
Aperture is large, complex, and can take some time to learn to use.  It is also quite powerful, and can handle nearly all -- or all -- common tasks you throw at it.
I have written a very short guide to Aperture which was intended to provide some firm footing for those getting started.  I humbly suggest that you start with a quick review.
One of the things that presents a bit of disorientation for new users is that, in practice, Aperture keeps your pictures in a kind of limbo.  There are good reasons for this -- suffice it for now to accept that you import image-format digital files into Aperture, you use Aperture to organize and optimize these as Images, and then when need a file to use outside of Aperture, you export you Image.  It is at export that you format your Image: you select the file type, the compression amount, the file name, the file size, and more.
In your case, then, you will export your Version, and set the file type to TIFF (recommended above JGP whenever quality is paramount). There is no way to know the file size in bytes prior to creating it.  Start with a full-size TIFF and, if necessary, knock it down by percentage until the exported file is less than 1.8 MB.
There is no reason to attempt to keep this file with the Image in Aperture.  Send it on its way.  Any time you need another file from your Image, you can create it fresh via "File→Export→Version".
HTH.  If it doesn't, ask more.

  • It should be possible to set default behavior for all file types

It should be possible to set a default action for all file types. I'm so tired of having to manually sit and say "save this file" because Firefail always defaults to "open with" and has disabled the "Do this automatically for files like this from now on."
And spare me the zealotry religious excuses for why its the fault of websites and not Firefail

I do want users to have full control to be able to set any folder view they want by using Apply to Folders; I just want to set the initial/default view to Detail because that matches what the majority of my users want.
That is, what registry setting changes when I go to a picture folder, change the view to Detail, and click Apply to Folders? Having done that, I still retain the ability to change it to some other view and apply that to folders. But what registry setting
represents the change I just made when applying Detail view to all Picture folders.?
This settings is simple via GUI, but it is related a lot of registry keys, I made a test in my machine, capture the "Apply to Folders" process using Regshot tool (this is a small tool which can compare the regsitry changes after you change some
settings), and this is the result:
this is part of the registry changes, a plenty of registry keys and values need to be changed. hard to list them here. if you have interests, I recommend the tool Regshot, it can help you capture the regsitry changes.

  • Create custom code colouring for additional file types

    Hi All,
I spend a lot of time editing .ini files in Dreamweaver (in my case langague files for custom Joomla extensions). Although the file format is extremely  simple, particularly in the way that they re used in this context, I would like to improve the readability by adding code coloring  for strins, standard text and comments.
I haven't been able to find any really useful information on the web about how to go about doing this.
From what i can gather, the steps are
Get Dreamweaver to recognise the file type (editing Extensions.txt and MMDocumentTypes.xml?)
    Add the code coloringxml file.
So far I've had no success with the first step, so haven't tried the second.
It would be great if I caould also add it as an option in the New File dialog.
If some kind and clever person could point me in the right direction, it would be much appreciated.
I'm in Dreamwaever CC on Windows 7, if that's relevant
    Cheers

What have you tried so far that made you think that you were not successful?  To add new file extensions to be recognized in DW, you need to go to:
Edit >> Preferences and then look for something like in this picture:
Now this is in CS6 and I suspect the steps should be similar in CC.  If not then CC is a step backwards in terms of progress in current technology IMO.  I don't use CC so can't comment any further here.
    Good luck.

  • Best file type; JPEG, TIFF, PNG etc

I'm using Iphoto 5 (can't decide to buy 06 or buy new Imac - still thinking on that ...) and wonder what is the best file type to use. When importing pictures from my camera they are jpeg's (haven't tried raw setting yet)- from my scanner I use TIFF. It appears the TIFF files are a lot larger - 20 to 50mb compared to the jpegs 1 to 5mb. I've opened the TIFF files in preview and save as JPEG to reduce the size and also scanned using JPEG format - I don't see any advanatge to the larger tiff files and the smaller jpegs are easier manipulated - am I'm missing something?

    Hi Arlington,
There is an important difference between JPG and TIFF:
    JPG uses a lossy compression!!!
Just try to open a JPG and save it under a new name as JPG. Repeat this ten times and then compare the last picture (..the one that got saved and re-saved ten times as a JPG) with the original one you should see a difference, the quality of the last image should be a lot less than the original.
That's the difference - if you want to edit your pictures (e.g. in Photoshop) and quality is your first priority then go with TIFF. If you just download the pictures from your digital camera and store them then JPEG is your best choice.
