PIcture in a new quicktime movie

I have 2 .jpg's that I was able to copy and paste into a quicktime movie. When I press play, how can I adjust the time that the picture appears for? When i press play it basically just flashes between the two pictures back and fourth.
Please Help

You need to make a "selection" (in and out points) and then use the "Add to Selection & Scale" (Edit menu).
If you're adding image files to an audio track the steps above will work. If adding to a video track many more steps are needed.

  • Good video, poor still picture when export to QuickTime Movie

I exported my project from Final Cut Pro. Had video and still images. When viewing expoprted video in QuickTime Movie, the video looks good but the still images look distorted (pixulated). The images were ~2.0 MB each. If I make the viewer window for QuickTime Movie small, then images look good. I imported the images from IPhoto and if I open a big windom for viewing the images in IPhoto, they look great, just not in my finished video. Please help. Thanks

Thank you so much for replying.

My video setting is: DV NTSC 48kHz using NTSC (720x480)

  • New Quicktime movie icon

    Hi,
Is there any way to change the new generic QuickTime movie icon.
Not the program icon. I've already done that, disposing of the grotesque silver Q filled in blue!
It's the smaller icon I wish to replace. The icon for each movie file. Sure, I can change each one individually (plod plod plod). But I would like to just replace the generic, so that each time I download or rip a movie I do not have the silver Q filled in blue on the AVI or MOV white rectangle.
I have Candy Bar, but can't figure out how to do it!
    Other than that, SL rocks!
    Martin

I don't think Candybar can do it. it can change the icon for teh app itself but not the icons you want. you'll have to do it yourself. control-click on Quicktime player.app and select "show package contents". go to Contents->Resources. There are lot of icons 9and other stuff) in there including icons to be used for all file types like MPEG-4.icns, Movie.icns etc. you have to replace them with your own .icns files. I suggest you back up Quicktime Player.app before trying this.

Thank you for the feedback. I wasn't privy to the process that converted these files originally but suspected the theory on compression/codec initially used.. may re-convert. Also will try Disk Imaging... seems that this is not an uncommon problem in the iDVD 5 world...

  • Random audio dropouts from FCP 4 to Quicktime Movie

Never experienced this headache before, until today...
I've built my project as per usual in FCP4 - no problem. Then I exported project as Quicktime Movie for iDVD4 but I noticed that audio disappeared in two different sections - each portion of silence lasting a minute or so.
I went back to FCP and exported a new Quicktime Movie - almost the same result only audio disappeared in a different section for three minutes or so. Back to FCP and I built my project on a new timeline (Sequence) - same result when I exported to Quicktime but again, dropouts occur in different sections.
At present, I'm exporting each of the 10 Sequences that make up my project as separate Quicktime Movies and so far, I've completed 2 with no audio dropouts.
Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this problem?

  • Why does the new Quicktime NOT play my old MOV files?

    Hi Folks.
I'm using the lasted updated Yosemite on a 3-year old iMac.
Back in my early iMac days (3 years ago), I imported my camcorder's AVCHD files
into iMove or Final Cut Express and converted them to Quicktime MOV files.
Turns out they were rendered by Apple or Final Cut into MOV files using the
Apple Intermediate codec.  I had no choice over this.
Until I upgraded to Yosemite, I was able to preview any of these movies
very easily in the Finder.  Simply highlight the movie, press the spacebar,
and it opens, in a real-time, real-size screen, with a simple play-pause button
in the progress bar at the bottom.  Never had a problem with any previous
    Mac OS.
Now when I click on the file in the finder, instead of a movie preview, I get a
big, silent QT "Mov" icon that just sits there looking silly.
I double click it to open it up in Quicktime, and it attempts to go through this
lengthy conversion process, taking at least as long as the movie is in minutes,
then asking me if I want to save this new "converted" version.
Fortunately, I have an old version of Quicktime 7 on my Mac, and QT 7 opens it
and plays it no problem.  No "conversion" necessary.  No cumbersome and
space-hogging needs to create a "cloned" copy, just so the new, lame version
    of Quicktime can play it.
What's up, Apple?  AIC was YOUR codec that YOUR SOFTWARE chose to
transcode into.  Now, your new Quicktime does NOT support this codec?
And your old version does?  And why might THAT be?
Really, this is so elementary.  This is not rocket science.  Just like JPG images
not displaying properly in Mac Mail now.  It begs the question "why" ...?
I mean, for the elementary preview abilities that always made Mac such a
friendly computer ... *uh* ... where is that?
And here we go, wasting hours of time, looking for fixes that should not
    have to be "fixed"...
Did I miss something?  Or did you?

Aeclay: here's a couple of ideas.  And an answer to your earlier post.
Basically two options to work with here:
Store the files as native AVCHD files... OR
    Convert the files to Quicktime
I keep two archives of my AVCHD recordings, partly for backup, and partly for Sony's ability to archive nicely in it's own native format on it's PC-friendly utility called "PMB".  (came wtih both my NEX and ALPHA cameras).   I have an old PC that I use for my complete archive; Sony's PMB utility works only on PC's and will do a good job both of archiving, providing a thumbnail database, and re-writing your choice to removable media in it's typical Sony hierarchy.
If you've only got Mac's, you can still archive your AVCHD recordings; copy them to folders named or organized to your own spec's.   AVCHD is a high-quality compression format, and they'll take up way less disk space than converted Quicktime MOV files.   You can open and play all AVCHD movies quite easily with VLC player.
The only extra trick to be aware of here is this.  The only reason you would need to preserve the intact "sony" folders (named "AVCHD" / "BMDV" etc) is is you were using Adobe Premiere as a video editor.  Somehow, it needs the hierarchical folder stuff in place to properly index the files.  Not mandatory, but helpful if  you are a Premiere user.  Otherwise, forget the weird "package" folders; just right-click (ctrl-click) on them, choose "view package contents" and MOVE the MTS files out of the Sony hierarchy for permanent storage.  Use VLC player to open and view them.
From that point on,  you have control over how you manage the files and what intermediate or end-user format you convert them to for your own use.
I'm not clear on your other question about the files that add the word "converted" on.  Of course Mac will convert to Quicktime MOV files.  Not sure what codec they're using now, likely H.264.  Anyway, don't bother converting.  It'll take up a lot of time and waste a lot of disk space.
ps. I just found this free utility on the internet.  It's called "MTS CONVERTER". I have not tried it, but it claims to be able to convert all AVCHD files to various useable formats.
Good luck!  (and happy Valentine's Day!)

  • Creating a QuickTime movie with the new Canon T5i  camera in iMovie 9.0.9.

Help needed creating a QuickTime movie with the new Canon T5i  camera in iMovie 9.0.9.  The project is done and looks good...I need help understanding what settings need to be set so I can make a QuickTime movie in the highest quality that would fit the ratio of 16.9 to be sent out to my YouTube page.  I played around with some of the settings and have not come with the right setting for the video.  I want the highest quality with the lowest amount of megabytes…thanks

I would suggest using SHARE/EXPORT MOVIE and choose 1920x1080 (if your source material supports this).
That should work well in YouTube.
If you want to go further with custom QuickTime settings,  here are some that should work, but in my experience, it will be no better than using SHARE/EXPORT MOVIE.
follow the instructions below to create a .mov video that will work on YouTube:
In iMovie, select Share > Export Using QuickTime
Next, you may want to check your Options to verify that the following settings are correct:Video settings
    Compression Type: H.264
    Frame Rate: 30 is preferred. 23.98, 24, 25, 29.97 are also acceptable.
    Data Rate: Automatic
    Key Frames: Automatic
    Frame Reordering: Unchecked
    Audio/Sound settings
    Format: AAC
Click Show advanced settings and choose Constant Bit Rate as encoding strategy
    Other settings
Size: Choose the original size of the video

  • QuickTime movies cannot display properly, refresh doesn't work propely for html files on hard disk, opening a new tab doesn't work

    Hi!
I have tried Firefox V4 (but have since reused V3.6.16). The following problems were found:
    a. Cannot display the controls used for QuickTime movies.
    b. The refresh button doesn't function at all if the html files reside on the hard disk. I do this because I need to test the appearance of the web page before uploading to the server.
This problem also exists for v3.6.14 to v3.6.16
    c. When opening a new tab, it doesn't work. Instead, it will open another instance of the browser. By right, it has to open the web page on the same instance of the browser.
    This is my feedback.
    Thanks!!!!! :)

I had some advice to try recording QT audio and adding to the slide.  Now, when recording to Quicktime, it does embed it, but in recording the presentation, it either doubles up the audio giving a strange echo or does the same thing if you ever edit the presentation.
The problem Keynote has is that the sound and image content are not locked together which causes out of sync errors. This is why many users choose video editing applications when using sound in the presentations, as they have both image and audio tracks to sync sound properly together.
Start a new presentation to remove the previous sound recording, Keynote is holding onto the other sound files.
Add the graphic items to each slide and one sound file to each slide for the voice over
1 - In Inspector > Transitions;  use start transitions automatically and set each transitions delay to the duration of the individual sound file.
2 - In QT export, set Fixed Timing and delete the value in the duration box, QT will then use the custom timings for each individual slide.
This procedure does work exactly as needed, Iv used this for nearly 6 years using 4 different versions of Keynote.

  • I just purchased an external disk drive to store my pictures.  I want to keep the last 12 months of pictures on my iMac and move the rest to the new external drive.  As new pictures are added I want them to be put on the iMac internal drive.  How?

I just purchased an external disk drive to store my growing number of pictures.  I want to keep the last 12 months of pictures on my iMac and move the remaining pictures to the new external drive.  As I take more pictures I want them to be put on the iMac internal drive.  Every 3 to 6 months I would then move some additional pictures to the external drive.  I am nuervous about losing any of the pictures and want to make sure I follow the proper procedure.  What is the right way to handle this?
    Thanks.

Here's one way to do what you want:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
Now you have two full versions of the Library.
    3. On the Internal library, trash the Events you don't want there
Now you have a full copy of the Library on the External and a smaller subset on the Internal
    Some Notes:
As a general rule: when deleting photos do them in batches of about 100 at a time. iPhoto can baulk at trashing large numbers at one go.
You can choose which Library to open: Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
You can keep the Library on the external updated with new imports using  iPhoto Library Manager

  • Why can't I open mp4 movies in my new QuickTime Player. I just upgraded my MacBookPro Intel Core Duo to Snow Leopard 10.6.8.

I recently upgraded my MacBookPro Intel Core Duo to Snow Leopard 10.6.8. When I opened one of my movie clips in mp4 file it was opened by my MPEG Streamclip and not with the new QuickTime Player that came with the new OS. I need to manually open the Quicktime Player and Open file the mp4 movie I want to play it. I have no problem with the QuickTime Pro that  I was using in my previous OS before I upgraded. I did not encounter this problem, however, with my iMac Intel when I upgraded it to Snow Leopard 10.6.8. The Quicktime Player in my iMac Intel automatically opens my mp4 movies. Only my flv files are opened automatically by my MPEG Streamclip as I expected to. Why?

It is strange. I thought 10.x might be the more recent but it also locked up when I tried to the web export. I ran into the no autoplay issue with the webpage so I'll need to look elsewhere to replace a Flash gallery... oh well. Looks like there are probably JS option that might work.

  • New HD Video + "old" Quicktime Movies

I want to purchase an HD camcorder. Vixia HF M30.
I have existing Quicktime movies saved as standard video - and will make more standard videos in software named Anime Studio.
Can I edit (combine) HD video and standard video in a iMovie project? Can the source video clips be of differing resolution?

The support article you refer to is for iTunes for Windows and is not applicable to Mac OS X. QuickTime is part of Mac OS X and is always installed, though with earier versions of Mac OS X it's possible to not have it current. That's not a factor if you have OS X 10.7.2.
I don't have a solution at this time, but I wanted to at least point out that the article wasn't applicable. Someone else here may have suggestions.
    Regards.

  • Is it possible to embed new aspect ratios into your quicktime movies?

Well my subject line explains it all really. I was wondering if there was a way to embed the aspect ratio in my quicktime movies instead of manually resizing them whenever i open them to a ratio that suits the content better.
    thanks

I was wondering if there was a way to embed the aspect ratio in my quicktime movies instead of manually resizing them whenever i open them to a ratio that suits the content better... I'd also love to know the answer to this. It's dead easy to amend an anamorphic movie to play at 133% of original width, but can a QT movie be told to open in that ratio the next time?
Yes, however, to some extent, the method to be employed depends on your media player. QT 7 (and similar applications), for instance, will open using the "Current Size" display dimensions contained within the file. These dimensions are easily changed in the Properties window, using QT 7 Pro while the "Keep Aspect" switch is turned off and do not re-compress the data but may re-write the date to an MOV file container. On the other hand, applications that rely on the embedded PAR flag/value (like QT X, iMovie '08/'09', etc, must be re-compressed using the correct Anamorphic setting to re-embed the correct flag. When both settings are in agreement, an anamorphic file will open correctly in all players. However, where they differ, the files will open correctly in one type player and incorrectly in the other type of player.

  • Quicktime movies on the dock

    Hi,
On Tiger a quicktime movie would continue playing even while minimized, on Leopard however, it seems only the sound keeps playing, the picture is static. Is this intended?
Its not a big deal... its just something i noticed..
    Thanks

Wow - yes that no longer works.
I personally didn't use that much, but was cool to show people nonetheless and did come in handy one time. Nice spot
The more I play with things, the more I am becoming increasingly disappointed and frankly, shocked at the apparent major bugs that made it into the shipping version of this new release. I'm really hoping that some big updates appear this coming week to address some of the biggest issues.
I plan on going back to Tiger tonight, mainly the graphics bugs on my Mac Pro/x1900 make it almost impossible to work on anything productive. But am hoping that if some of these issues are fixed, to come back to it again. There are also many features that were shown at the WWDC keynote (customizable Stacks come mind) that would have possibly made some aspects a bit easier to adjust to.
Right now though, Leopard feels so rough it's almost like the transition from OS 9 to 10.0.
