Picture in Picture (PIP) feature discontinued

Can anyone tell me when & why Toshiba discontinued the PIP feature on its CRT color sets?
My older set (CF27F50; October 1996) has the feature.  A newer set I stumbled onto (27A43; October 2003) does not have it.
Also, it's my impression that - for sets that have the feature - it only works if the signal is "'conditioned" for it.  If my memory serves, it worked fine for signals off the airwaves, but didn't work w/ cable signals.  Does this make any sense?  Any thoughhts?

  • IMovie Crop picture-in-picture & feature requests

I love the new iMovie because it is so fast. I wish it had a few more features though. Maybe it does and I don't know where to look...
    1. cut-out picture after you insert picture-in-picture. It seems to let you cut-out crop a picture when you insert a picture doing green-screen which is great! but when you select picture-in-picture overlay, you are stuck either with the full size video or fully cropped version. For instance, if you are inserting a person shot on white background into a full white screen, you can't cut-crop out studio junk that are on the side of the picture without cropping the whole thing closer - loosing resolution.
    2. sharpen video. the color correction seems quite good but how come you can't sharpen video a little?
    3. cut and paste video sections INCLUDING title and dissolves.

Yes, but are you working in iMovie '09? You start off by saying you are using iMovie '08 and then proceed to describe new options only available in iMovie '09. Better re-check what version of iMovie the tutorial is describing.

  • Does Encore support "Picture-in-picture" (PiP or Secondary Video)?

Is there any way to do Picture-in-Picture or Secondary Video in Encore?
If not, are there any helpful links to products that will?
I've been having a hard time finding any information regarding PiP other that the Secondary Video requirements (supported resolutions, ABR, PBR and flagged as interlaced, etc.)...
    Any help would be great.
    Thanks!

If you mean in a menu, that's possible, but you'll need to use Premiere or AE to create the video.
If you mean in a timeline - that's also possible only if you create the PIP in Premiere or AE. In other words, it's always displayed.
The DVD-Video format does support multiple video angles, but they cannot be displayed simultaneously in a PIP situation - only one stream at a time can be displayed (i.e., no PIP).

  • Picture In Picture question.

Hi, I'm new to iMovie and I am having an issue with Picture In Picture. I don't even know if I am using the right feature. Anyway, from my desktop, I am dragging a picture into my project and selecting Picture In Picture (I already have advanced mode on) and so far I am having an issue. When I try to crop/fit it, it is keeping to its aspect ratio, which is not right. I need a non cropped, non boxed image on my footage and no matter how much I explore the program or Google it, I can't find how to do it. Any help is appreciated!

YOu say you are not sure if you are using the right feature.
Use PIP if you want a small picture or video to be superimposed over your video while the video keeps running underneath.
Use CUTAWAY if you want the underlying video clip's audio to keep playing underneath while you substitute a different photo or video clip on top in full screen.
If you just want to add a photo to your project, just drag the photo in from the photo browser.

  • Picture In Picture a la 24

    Hello All,
I was wondering if it is better to do a picture in picture effect in AE or Premiere.  Premiere has PiP presets.  But it seems like more complicated or animated Picture in Picture, like they did in 24, would be better done in a compositing application instead of an editing app.
    Which do you suggest??
    Thanks in Advance

I can't remember what the Ocean Eleven opening looked like---   Here a very simple example of what I was talking about.
    http://youtu.be/6YqpUZ4veTU
Keeping the boarders a consistant size was much easier in AE as the boarders are solid layers that can be duplicated, moved/scaled, and faded as needed.  I guess I could have also tried making the boarders out of a single Shape layer with animations of the shape within it.   There are probably expressions that could make this quicker to do.
The crop feature in Pr is nice but didn't offer the flexibility of animating masks.  With Mask I could have gone further than straight Verical and Horizontal lines.
I guess, maybe the way to approach this is to first do the cell changes with Masked Solid Layers and then replace with the Solid with footage and last to add the boarders.  You also use the Write on effect to create the boards.
As someone with a lot more experience than me, I would like to know how would you suggest a project of this kind be approached.

  • Inner-HTML or Picture-in-Picture on iWeb, anyone?

Hi; dunno if you've use inner HTML code before (see code for this: <iframe src ="http://servalonline.com/Serval_Online/Video.html" width="100%" height="400"></iframe>) but basically is there anyway I can only select the lower half of the page I am trying to reference? The code above basically gives me half of the Video page from top to midway, but if I want only from midway to bottom, how do I do this? As in, I don't want to be able to scroll at all on the PIP (Picture in Picture) page. I want a fixed portion, as you see on a TV.
For more clarity, go to this page (My site's home page: http://servalonline.com/Serval_Online/Home.html)and see that the video of the day part of the page, on the home page, has the headers but I don't want the headers, as they are duplicates and already appear above, on the top of the main page; nor do I wanna be be able to scroll up or down. I want just a fixed insert. Any ideas?

first off, this posting system is wonky! I had to do do it three times!

yes, I started all and it's called webclip (as in dashboard), I can clip any part of a web page and display it; here your upper right video:
    http://temp.cyclosaurus.com/sharedYoutube/WebClip.html
it seems to me that you like to display the same video in multiple pages without duplicating the work.
if that's the case, then here is easier way:
    1) make a page with nothing but your video:
    http://temp.cyclosaurus.com/sharedYoutube/dailyVideo.html
    2) then display it in other pages using html snippet:
    http://temp.cyclosaurus.com/sharedYoutube/Home.html
    http://temp.cyclosaurus.com/sharedYoutube/Video.html
btw, this is the same concept as my navbar widget (build once and share all):

  • Im trying to place an arrow into iMovie, but picture in picture doesn't appear, replace or insert comes up instead?

Im trying to place an arrow into iMovie, but picture in picture doesn't appear, replace or insert comes up instead? Im trying to make a highlight video and I cant place an arrow into picture on picture, I used to be able to untill I updated my IOS.
Any help would be great! thanks.

Make sure that you have enabled (checked) Advanced Tools in the General tab under the iMovie menu item "iMovie>Preferences".
Also, a Picture-in-Picture (PIP) can be inserted only into clips in a project - not clips in an Event.

  • Picture in picture not showing

    Problem:
I have used "picture in picture" a number of times on a video clip.
Viewing the video clip inside iMovie results in some of the pip's showing and some not showing.
The pip's that do not show are all images, not videos. Videos seem to work as expected.
    What I've done:
1.Exported the video to iTunes and it appears that the pip that I don't see inside iMovie is present.
    2. Checked all the inserted images are either jpeg or png.
Any suggestions as to the source of the problem?
    Thanks.

The X indicates that this image has been rejected. You may have inadvertently hit the 9 key which is a keyboard shortcut to reject a photo. Select the image and hit the zero key. That should bring it back.

  • I cannot get transitions to apply to only the picture in picture. The transitions apply to the full screen.

When I add a picture-in-picture as a new storyline and apply a transition the effect occurs on the main story line also. For example, a page curl transition causes the whole screen to curl rather than just the picture-in-picture. I'm using FCPX version 10.1.4.
I want to be able to animate in different pictures in different parts of the screen it looks horrible with the effects applying to all the different pictures.

All due respect to Mr. Wolsky.  I have gotten this to work with many of the transitions.
Create a compound clip, open in the timeline and apply the transition(s).
Go back in the main timeline, make a storyline out of your compound clip.  Making it a storyline is what did the trick for me.  A compound clip alone would still have a full screen transition
I've had multiple PIPs doing cube transitions.  It should work for you
Is this what you're trying to do?   https://www.dropbox.com/s/mw51rs3dysd54cl/Transitions.mov?dl=0

  • Picture in Picture or the like of, possible?

I have the latest version of both iMovie and Final Cut Express HD. I enjoy making videos and often do so for my church, school, etc. I was using Cyberlink PowerDirector on Windows and Pinnacle 8. On those programs you can layer videos and photos to create a "picture in picture" like effect. I was wondering if that is possible on Final Cut Express HD or iMovie. I used that feature alot and while I have quite a bit of training on iMovie, I have very little on Final Cut. If anyone could help, it's much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    mackingtawsh

Forget everything you know about iMovie if you want to learn Final Cut.
The tutorials that came with the software are a wonderful place to start. Tom Wolsky has a book out that is also recommended.
I'm sure a helpful person will jump in here and offer up a whole host of links to other useful resources very soon.
Just to get you started, recognize there are few questions that have not been asked a few times before you arrived. The search function is a terrific resource and I encourage you to use it.
For example: I searched the forum for "picture in picture" and have THESE HITS
In the first page of responses, you'll find the answer to the question neatly spelled out.

  • Picture in Picture "zooming" issue

    Hi there,
I was wondering if the following can be done. I have made a good ol' picture in picture sequence by just scaling down one video on top of another and moving it to the bottom right corner. Easy. Now, what I want to do is zoom in on the image in the smal picture (on the bottom right corner) by scaling up again. I thought I could do this by putting a mask around it with a track matte but it just scales the whole image up again instead of staying the same size.
Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong, how it should be done and/or if it's possible at all?
    Thanks a lot,
    Sebastiën

It's a shame Pr doesn't have a track matte effect that would make this simple.  Here's what I'd do:  Make a new Sequence with Custom settings that's 1/4 the size of your main sequence (if 1/4 is the amount of scaling for your PIP).  Put your footage in that Seq, and zoom away.  Then put that sequence as a layer in your main sequence.

  • PE7: Split screen/picture in picture jerkiness problem?

I'm using Premiere Elements 7, creating a video that displays multiple videos at once. I tried:
Splitting the screen into four boxes of same size (top left, top right, bottom left, bottom right), each filled with its own video
Having one main video with 3 picture-in-picture windows overlaid on top of the main
    I followed this instruction: http://www.heron-productions.com/4-splitscreen.html
In both cases, after I rendered work area, I see the video on Track 1 and sometimes Track 2 become very jerky, like skipping backwards and forwards by themselves. Exactly the same issue also when I export into final video. The only way I could solve this issue reliably is by decreasing the number of simultaneous videos/windows to two.
I have also tried this on another machine that has Premiere Pro CS4, resulting exactly the same issue. Very confusing since at least Premiere Pro should be able to do this just fine.
Is this a bug? Or am I doing something wrong? FWIW, all my sources are AVCHD files from a Canon HF100, and the project is a 1080 30i.

Thanks for the reply! Yeah, I figured I should've posted at the root forum, instead of in the Tips & Tricks. I'll probably try to repost this there. Anyway...
I don't think this is a hardware issue. It's not about trying to preview in realtime (although the bug shows up there too, after rendering work area). I can wait as long as I need if that's what it takes. But this problem is in the final render result. Yes, I do have an i7 setup for this: Core i7 920, 6GB DDR3 1600, ATI 4830 512MB, and disk load spread out among: 1x 1TB 32mb cache, 1x 750GB 32mb cache, 3x 500GB 16mb cache. They're not in RAID setup, but again, I can live with the current rendering time, which is more CPU-bottlenecked than disk-bottlenecked.
This bug also exists in Premiere Pro CS4 when I tried it on another machine with that app (I myself don't have CS4).
I rendered a short, lower resolution video to show how this bug looks like.
    http://cid-48ae90fe02b84e66.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/Videos/PremiereBug.wmv
Notice the main video in the background. It becomes jerky from time to time when there are more than one PiPs. Take a look around 0:20 where it becomes even worse after the 3rd PiP shows up.
