Picture in Picture "zooming" issue

Hi there,
I was wondering if the following can be done. I have made a good ol' picture in picture sequence by just scaling down one video on top of another and moving it to the bottom right corner. Easy. Now, what I want to do is zoom in on the image in the smal picture (on the bottom right corner) by scaling up again. I thought I could do this by putting a mask around it with a track matte but it just scales the whole image up again instead of staying the same size.
Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong, how it should be done and/or if it's possible at all?

It's a shame Pr doesn't have a track matte effect that would make this simple. Here's what I'd do: Make a new Sequence with Custom settings that's 1/4 the size of your main sequence (if 1/4 is the amount of scaling for your PIP). Put your footage in that Seq, and zoom away. Then put that sequence as a layer in your main sequence.

Contacts transferred via MobileMe. Picture ID is zoomed in during a call. The only fix I have found is to go to each contact -> edit photo -> choose. You have zoom on. Double tap with THREE fingers to turn zoom off. Then go into: Settings>General>Accessibility and turn it off for good.

I want to have the Pan&Zoom-Effect (also known as Ken-Burns-Effect) in a smaller Picture in the bigger background Picture. Every time I'm using the Pan&Zoom- Tool the Picture-in-Picture Effect disappears and the smaller Picture becomes a full frame Picture. Is it possible to have both effects in one Picture?

Here are two ways in the Expert mode in the pse 11 Editor:
(it works pretty much like pse 8, except the Tool Options are at the bottom of the workspace in pse 11)
1. Use the Custom Shape Tool and in the drop-down choose the Arrows set
Set the options for the Shape Tool to Line and use the options in the tool options bar.

Crop and Zoom for picture-in-picture

I would like zoom into the part of a video and crop it so when I re-size it for picture-in-picture, I can see the only cropped area. Is that possible?

As I said in that thread, the answer is "yes," but we need to know exactly what you wish to do, so that we can tell you how to do it.
My questions:
Now, before we go into a lot of details, that might not apply, let me see if I can understand exactly what you want to do.
You have a Clip on the Video 1 Track in your Timeline. You want to zoom in on a part of that Clip. Am I correct on that?
Now, you talk about a PiP and also cropping. What do you want to crop?
Can you describe the PiP treatment, that you plan on using? For general PiP treatment, you would place the PiP Clip onto, say Video 2, and then Scale and alter its Position to suit. Is it the PiP Clip, that needs cropping?
With those answers, and any more details that you can furnish, we can tell you how to do, what you desire.

Picture In Picture question.

Hi, I'm new to iMovie and I am having an issue with Picture In Picture. I don't even know if I am using the right feature. Anyway, from my desktop, I am dragging a picture into my project and selecting Picture In Picture (I already have advanced mode on) and so far I am having an issue. When I try to crop/fit it, it is keeping to its aspect ratio, which is not right. I need a non cropped, non boxed image on my footage and no matter how much I explore the program or Google it, I can't find how to do it. Any help is appreciated!

YOu say you are not sure if you are using the right feature.
Use PIP if you want a small picture or video to be superimposed over your video while the video keeps running underneath.
Use CUTAWAY if you want the underlying video clip's audio to keep playing underneath while you substitute a different photo or video clip on top in full screen.
If you just want to add a photo to your project, just drag the photo in from the photo browser.

PE7: Split screen/picture in picture jerkiness problem?

I'm using Premiere Elements 7, creating a video that displays multiple videos at once. I tried:
Splitting the screen into four boxes of same size (top left, top right, bottom left, bottom right), each filled with its own video
Having one main video with 3 picture-in-picture windows overlaid on top of the main

In both cases, after I rendered work area, I see the video on Track 1 and sometimes Track 2 become very jerky, like skipping backwards and forwards by themselves. Exactly the same issue also when I export into final video. The only way I could solve this issue reliably is by decreasing the number of simultaneous videos/windows to two.
I have also tried this on another machine that has Premiere Pro CS4, resulting exactly the same issue. Very confusing since at least Premiere Pro should be able to do this just fine.
Is this a bug? Or am I doing something wrong? FWIW, all my sources are AVCHD files from a Canon HF100, and the project is a 1080 30i.

I don't think this is a hardware issue. It's not about trying to preview in realtime (although the bug shows up there too, after rendering work area). I can wait as long as I need if that's what it takes. But this problem is in the final render result. Yes, I do have an i7 setup for this: Core i7 920, 6GB DDR3 1600, ATI 4830 512MB, and disk load spread out among: 1x 1TB 32mb cache, 1x 750GB 32mb cache, 3x 500GB 16mb cache. They're not in RAID setup, but again, I can live with the current rendering time, which is more CPU-bottlenecked than disk-bottlenecked.
This bug also exists in Premiere Pro CS4 when I tried it on another machine with that app (I myself don't have CS4).
I rendered a short, lower resolution video to show how this bug looks like.

Notice the main video in the background. It becomes jerky from time to time when there are more than one PiPs. Take a look around 0:20 where it becomes even worse after the 3rd PiP shows up.

IMovie 11 Picture in Picture preview freezing

Hey there,
Anyone know how to fix the picture in picture issue where the transparent (pre keyed) footage is frozen in both preview and in the project timeline!? It's driving me crazy!!!!! In iMovie 9 I was able to preview the pre keyed footage but it seems iMovie 11 won't even allow that now!
I know this is an on going issue and i've searched the internet for about a week trying to find a fix.
Any tips or help is much appreciated!!!

It has been happening to me, but it doesn't change the final video itself, if it is previewed in full screen mode, it will sometimes freeze, but to see the scene that freezes, just play it (in fullscreen mode) and click back a few seconds before it freezes and it should play normally.
You can also bring the mouse over the clip to preview it or:
Duplicate the whole project
2. Export it to Quicktime

All is symmetrical. When I switch to full screen display, the artwork moves a couple of inches to the left and the display is therefore asymmetrical. Why and how do I correct it? It would drive you mad to.

I was having the same problem, but tried the "Top Button + Home Button" reset and that did work for me. My unofficial guess is that perhaps RAM caches get filled through daily use of various apps leaving no memory for cover flow. Resetting the phone on the phone itself seems to reset that RAM. I can't say it's a cure-all, but it solved my issue. Hope this helps.

Moving picture in picture?

I managed to figure out how to insert a picture within a video using the "picture in picture" effect when dragging stuff into my project. I know that you can do "Ken Burns effects" and other stuff to zoom and pan within the picture itself, but is there a way to actually move that picture through a period of time in the video? Like I found out how to place it wherever you want in the video, but can I can somehow set a starting and stopping position to make the picture move from one spot to the other?

No, not in iMovie. The PIP remains in the location you set. More advanced applications, such as Final Cut Express can probably do what you want (using key frames). But if you can wait until June, a new version of Final Cut Pro (FCP X) is due to be released at a very low price. It will retail for $US299 and will be available from the App Store. Can't find pictures in Picture folders

I have a new 8900 Curve with some photos in the Blackberry/Pictures folder (some taken with the camera and placed there automatically, others moved onto the device using Blackberry Desktop Manager/Roxio software).
The problem is that none of these photos appear when I select "Change Icon" for MyFaves or "Add Picture" to a contact. I see Media Card/BlackBerry/pictures, and no photos are there. Or if I select Media/Pictures/All Pictures, I don't see them.
The only way to see them is if I select Media/Pictures Explore/Media Card/Blackberry/pictures, which I can't do from the Edit Contact/Add Picture menu.
Make sense? What's the fix? Thanks.

Hi and welcome to the forums!
Use the explore option again and when you get to pictures select show hidden.
If the pictures don't show up, look for a BBthubs.dat file, delete it.
Do a battery pull.
Then go to media, pictures and see if they show up.
BBthumbs.dat is a index file that lets the device pull up the media quicker.

PICTURE IN PICTURE HAS A GOOF IN IT

I am having issues because I am doing a memorial video.... I originally had a poor quality photo on hand, so when I went to replace the Picture-in-Picture photograph with a different one, it makes that picture-in-picture play all the photographs I have used in the movie and then holds onto the last photograph to sit there for the duration of the time slot I have given it.
For example, I have a "bad photo", a "baby photo", a "good photo", and for giggles, I tried a totally different photograph in its place to see if I could get it to reset itself... we will call that photo a "marriage photo" (which is not used in the movie at all.
Even after deleting any picture-in-picture in this movie and closing iMovie and reopening, and attempting to insert the "good photo", the box shows completely black (picture-in-picture block that shows above the movie segment). When you play it, it will show each of these photographs for about a 1/2 second and then finally sit on the final one--
bad photo (1/2 second)-->good photo (1/2 second)-->baby photo (1/2 second)-->marriage photo (remainder of 35 minute movie segment)
No matter how many times I delete etc, it keeps doing this once I add just one photograph to the picture-in-picture.
What is wrong???
I will attempt to totally turn off my Mac and reboot. Only thing I haven't tried.

Picture in picture in iMovie 11' not working

i went to advanced tools and checked the box.
i took the clip and dragged it over the other.
nothing is happening.
i then tried to restart imovie to see if that would help.
nothing.

to anyone else out there that had this problem, I figured it out. imovie would not let me import png for picture in picture, but it would let me import a .tiff. so i simply changed the file extension.
I didn't think png was an issue in imovie, but apparently it is.

I want to play a video within a picture frame (kind of like picture in picture with perspective)

i'll try to describe what i'm trying to do.
I want to slowly zoom in on an empty desk. The desk does have a picture frame, with a child in a soccer uniform. As the camera zooms in, the child starts to move within the frame, as if the picture came alive.
I can do picture in picture, but I need have the smaller picture (with the child), look as if it is in the frame, which is being zoomed into.

IChat Picture in Picture not resolving

So I've had a few iChat video errors, the -8s and all that, but the most frequent one I get is where the chat initiates just fine at first but then my camera's picture in picture window fails to shrink down and show the other person's camera. They can hear and see me and I can hear them sometimes, but I can't see them obviously. Is this a network issue or is it more likely a hardware issue?

Actaully is could be either but a Router or modem setting may be more likely.
Some devices have what is called DoS (Denial of Service) Protection
In the days when lots of people would try the same web page to bring down a server that server or rather the computer running it would lose all internet connections.
Now you get protection features that judge if too much data is coming to you and just that connection gets cut.
It shows up right at the beginning of a chat where it fails instantly on connecting.
Errors 7 and 20 are the most common with messages about the other end not sending data for 10 secs.
Check your modem and router settings.
Netgears have a setting in the WAN page that refers to either DOS or SPI (Stateful Packet Inspection) which needs a check to disable it.
Linksys have something called QOS (Quality of Service) and this is found in Applications ad Gaming and does a similar job.
Effectively the setting if you have it can be anywhere.
It could be Bandwidth but you would need to check your Speeds for that.

It could be your Mac is busy processor-wise.
Check which Widgets you have running
Check the Activity Monitor and see how many items are running around 3 or 4% that add up to just about 20% as this will effect iChat.
Also check in there if a Print Monitor is active when you are not printing.
Force Quit it in Activity Monitor if it shows up.
