Picture locked, but need to arrange clips in layers question

Hey guys,
I'm wondering if anyone knows if there is a way to lock all the clips in time but still be able to arrange them in layer order. In other words I'm arranging the sound clips to specific layers (all narration on one layer, fx on another, etc) but I can't allow any clips to change their time on the timeline.
Is there a cheat for this or do I just have to be really careful.
Ciao

Well I'd not turn on snapping, because I may not want to snap at all. If you hold down that shift key, you'll see you can do this quickly... zooming in to see say 3 minutes at a time aught to be close enough I'd think. It's easier than you think...
You have to work pretty hard at NOT keeping the audio clips in the same place if you keep the shift key down during the drag up or down.

If you mean backed up as part of an iPhone backup in iTunes?  If so, you would have to use 3rd party software to extract them from the backup, such as iPhone Backup Extractor.

I wish to share pictures in Elements but cannot as I don't have a Sender Verification code for the HTML Email which I never received.

You can apply again by going to:
    Edit >> Preferences >> Sharing
Now change the Email Client to Adobe Email as shown in this picture:
You also need to fill your name and your email address just below this picture.  You will see it anyway.
After that, just go back to PSE Organizer, slect the picture you want to send and follow the online instructions step by step and you will get a step where you can request an email with your verification code. See this picture:

    <Edited by Host>

Your friend will have to remember or find his account id and password, without them he won't be able to re-activate the iPad.
Does he have any of the account's downloads in his computer's iTunes library : Recovering a forgotten iTunes Store account name.
Or has he tried finding it via http://appleid.apple.com : Apple ID: How to find your Apple ID.
If he can find the account id he can then get its password reset via http://iforgot.apple.com
(As these are user-to-user forums, you're not talking to iTunes Support nor Apple, I've asked the hosts to remove the serial number from your post.)

iPad stolen, restored and locked but later returned... I need the data on it to catch the person responsible, what can I do To get to the information without losing everything or restoring?  Please help!

Sorry, you said "Pad stolen, restored and locked but later returned". Please clarify. "restored and locked".
    What, exactly, does this mean?
Locked how? If it's passcode locked and you don't know the passcode, you don't have any choice but to restore it.

You messaged me that the contact sheet look is what want but w/o spaces.
One method is to actually start with the PSE contact sheet tool.  I assume your version has it (mine is PSE 2). Maybe your version has an option to remove spaces; mine doesn't. In this example I created a sheet of  4 rows and 3 columns, with the option to not flatten the layers. Each picture appears on a separate layer.
On each row I moved the left and right pics inward to remove the spaces between the pics:
Activate the Move tool. Click on the left pic and use the arrow keys to move it inward. Same with the right pic.
Now to remove the spaces between the rows. To make this easier. lock together the pics on each row. Here I locked the pics on the top row, then used the arrow keys to move the row as a unit downward.  An alternative method would be to merge the 3 pics on each row and move that merged layer.  Do the same for the remaining rows.
This method works of course if the pictures are all the same size and all aligned vertical or horizontal.
If you don't want to use the contact sheet tool (e.g., if the pics are different sizes or alignment) you can do this:
    Create a blank canvas.
Open a picture, select it (Select > All) and copy to the clipboard (Edit > Copy).
Activate the blank canvas and Edit > Paste. The picture will be placed on its own layer.
Do the same with the remaining pics and use the Move tool with mouse and/or arrow keys to position them where you want.
The advantage of the first method is that the rows and columns are precisely aligned.  Using the mouse to align the pictures could be a little tricky.

  • Forgot passcode on iPad...won't restore...says a "locked passcode" needs to be entered on iPad?

My son forgot passcode on iPad.  I updated the iOS from 5 to 6.  It showed that it updated it successfully to my computer.  I guess I need to "restore" it but pop-up says it won't work because a "locked passcode" needs to be entered onto the iPad?  He forgot the passcode that's why we need to restore it!  How do we get his iPad back up and running?  Will he be able to get all his music, photos, etc. back?  (I have it all saved on my laptop).  I can't find EASY "Step-by-step" instructions to get this iPad back up and running for him.  Please help.

If you have forgotten your Restrictions code, then follow the instructions
below but DO NOT restore any previous backup. If you do then you will
simply be restoring the old Restrictions code you have forgotten. This
same warning applies if you need to restore a clean system.
A Complete Guide to Restore or Recover Your iDevice (if You Forget Your Passcode)
If you need to restore your device or if you cannot remember the passcode, then you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and re-sync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present. Refer to Updating and restoring iPhone, iPad and iPod touch software.
Try restoring the iOS device if backing up and erasing all content and settings doesn't resolve the issue. Using iTunes to restore iOS devices is part of standard isolation troubleshooting. Restoring your device will delete all data and content, including songs, videos, contacts, photos, and calendar information, and will restore all settings to their factory condition.
Before restoring your iOS device, Apple recommends that you either sync with iTunes to transfer any purchases you have made, or back up new data (data acquired after your last sync). If you have movie rentals on the device, see iTunes Store movie rental usage rights in the United States before restoring.
Follow these steps to restore your device:
         1. Verify that you are using the latest version of iTunes before attempting to update.
         2. Connect your device to your computer.
         3. Select your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch when it appears in iTunes under Devices.
         4. Select the Summary tab.
         5. Select the Restore option.
         6. When prompted to back up your settings before restoring, select the Back Up
option (see in the image below). If you have just backed up the device, it is not
             necessary to create another.
         7. Select the Restore option when iTunes prompts you (as long as you've backed up,
you should not have to worry about restoring your iOS device).
         8. When the restore process has completed, the device restarts and displays the Apple
             logo while starting up:
After a restore, the iOS device displays the "Connect to iTunes" screen. For updating
to iOS 5 or later, follow the steps in the iOS Setup Assistant. For earlier versions of
iOS, keep your device connected until the "Connect to iTunes" screen goes away or
              you see "iPhone is activated."
         9. The final step is to restore your device from a previous backup.
If you can not restore your device then you will need to go to recovery mode.
Placing your device into recovery mode:
Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
         1. Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the other end
of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
         2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the
red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake
and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the Sleep/Wake
              and Home buttons.
         3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device.
The device should turn on. Note: If you see the screen pictured below, let the device
charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some charge, and then
             start with step 2 again.
         4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen.
When this screen appears you can release the Home button.
         5. If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:
         6. Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
    Additional Information:
Note: When using recovery mode, you can only restore the device. All user content on the device will be erased, but if you had previously synced with iTunes on this computer, you can restore from a previous backup. See this article for more information.

Ok when you refer to "memory" that is the Random Access Memory which is temporary memory the processor (worker) uses to store stuff while it's using it. Power goes off whats in the memory is gone.
Your storage drive is where data is pernamnetly stored if the power is on/off.
So what you really mean to say is your storage drive is filled up and you need to make some room.
You have a TimeMachine drive, what this does is makes a image of your internal storage drive as a backup method, it also allows some "back in time" restoration of your previous deleted files depending how much space is on that drive. The more space, the less data you have, the more days you can go back in time to retrieve something.
Unfortunatly the TimeMachine drive is not a extra space storage drive, it automatically rotates what appears on your internal storage drive. So if you delete something from the internal drive, it eventually gets deleted from the TimeMachine drive.
So you need to make some more room on your internal drive, this is rather easy, all you need is ANOTHER external drive and connect it to the Mac. Give it a name like ExtraStorage#1 and thenyou will have to decide which of your User files you really don't need on the internal drive.
For instance the best choice would be to move some movies out of your Movies folder to another MoviesExtra folder on the ExtraStorage#1 drive.
Movies take a LOT of drive space and you can always copy them on or off, or watch them from the ExtraStorage#1 drive as well. But if your going to do this a lot, you should consider getting a Firewire 800/400, USB 3,2,1 combination drive as Firewire 800 is fastest and decently priced (Thunderbolt is very high priced and overkill at this time)
The other things like Documents are quite small, Pictures can take a lot of space if you have a lot, but if you need them on the internal drive then that's better. Music one tends to use a lot or manage playlists and such, but perhaps some music you may which to move off or "prune", I suggest always burning data DVD's of music especially for extra backups.
Once you have freed some room on the internal drive, this liitle neat program will show you what is taking the largest amount of space on your internal drive.
    http://grandperspectiv.sourceforge.net/
After a scan, right click on the big squares to "revel in Finder" to show you what's taking the largest amount of space, be warned it also opens up hidden system files and folders, which you won't be able to move. So concentrate on what's inthe Users folder.
Likely if you have a lot of Movies this is the biggest culprit on most standard internal hard drives. Also if you have something in iTunes that's auto-downloading something like PodCasts and not deleting the older ones and you forget. So go there and fix things and that can free up drive space.
If you bought a small SSD with your new Mac, then the price of that SSD has come back to haunt you with low storage space, you will have to think carefully what you can live without on the internal drive.
Once you have slimmed things down, TimeMachine will update to reflect your slimmer internal drive. What this means is there is only one copy of your data on the ExtraStorage#1 drive.
You need to maintain two copies of your data at all times on seperate hardware, so now you need ANOTHER storage drive (ExtraStorage#2) to copy everythinng of ExtraStorage#1, or else if you drop or have a mechanical problem with ES#1 all that data will be gone!

  • Simple I'm sure but need to know

Ok so I'm pretty sure this will be simple but need to know. I've got a Final Cut Quicktime Movie file that was exported through FCP version 6.0.2. I'm currently working on FCP version 5.1.4 trying to put some stuff together. I know I cannot import the clip into 5.1.4 but is there a way via another FCS program or something where I can convert it to a different format therefore enabling me to import it into 5.1.4? Let me know thanks.

Well I know you cannot open a project file from FCP6 in FCP5. That's just common sense but let me break it down. I exported a file in FCP6 via exporting "Quicktime Movie..." so it is now a Final Cut QuickTime Movie file. Now I am on my own computer trying to import this Final Cut QuickTime file into FCP5 and it won't let me import it and reads "File Error: 1 file(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown". Now the real weird thing to me (but not my problem necessarily) is when I try and open this file in QuickTime by using "Open with..." it opens it as if it is a QuickTime audio file with no video and doesn't even play the audio. Strange I know. Never had this deal before.

  • Changing desktop pictures locks system preferences

Re MacBook Pro laptop (OS 10.7.5)
Problem: Changing desktop pictures locks System Preferences
If I try to open System Preferences, I get windows for the Change Desktop/Background and the whirling beach ball begins until I go to Activities Monitor to Force Quit System Preferences, which informs me that my "System Preferences is no longer responding."
I have no trouble booting my Mac,
checked my Disk Utility informing me that there are no errors,
    checked Permissions without errors,
went to Users>"my name">Preferences>found the plist for com.apple.systempreferences, moved it to my desktop, tried the Apple System Preferences option with same result. Returned plist .  Hmm, just noticed that I have com.apple.systempreferences with one directly after Library ( i.e., not in any folder), and the other in the Library>Preferences folder. Could that be the foul up?  Perhaps one of these plists is misplaced.
    Any suggestions?

First follow the instructions in this support article.
If an iPhoto or Aperture library is the source of your desktop pictures, it may need to be rebuilt, or you may need to update the application to the latest version.
    Otherwise, continue as below.
    Back up all data.
In the Finder, hold down the option key and select
              Go ▹ Library
from the menu bar. From the Library folder, delete the following item, if it exists:
              Caches/com.apple.systempreferences
and move the following items to the Desktop, if they exist:
              Application Support/Dock/desktoppicture.db
              Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
Launch System Preferences and test. If you still have the issue, put the items you moved to the Desktop back where they came from and post again. Otherwise, delete the items.

  • Cannot arrange clips

First time posting here, since I could not find the answer in the manual (I usually use FCP but waiting for a Binary version - first time using iMovie HD)...
I imported a bunch of clips and they went straight into the timeline (bottom panel) when I thought they'd go into the Clip panel (right-side of interface).
I am now trying to move / rearrange the clips in the timeline but they are not budging. If I try to drag and drop them (even if I use cut and paste) the clip I select just vanishes...
    What should I do now?

The timeline at the bottom of the iMovie window has two modes: Clip View mode and Timeline View mode. Click one of the small icons above the left end of the timeline to pick one.
When arranging clips, it's usually best to use Clip View mode. It lets you select the clip(s) you want to move and drag them. Other clips move over to accept the clips.
When trimming clips or adjusting audio, use Timeline View mode.
Rearranging clips in Timeline View mode is possible too, but trickier, for most mouse actions there are for other kinds of editing. For iMovie to understand you want to move the clip, drag it up above the timeline, then left or right. As you drag other clips will move over.
While iMovie is quite simple to use once you see how it works, the user interface aren't particularly intuitive. Watching the iMovie on-line Tutorial helps discover how things work.
    http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/imovie/
If none of that helps, it may be that there's a more fundamental problem. iMovie requires that the disk the project resides on use the Mac OS Extended disk format. If it's not that format, iMovie can't save edits to disk, sometimes causing behaviors as you describe.
