Picture of a globe flashes while starting up. ***?

During initial power up a picture recently starting appearing of a globe before I was able to login. After I logged in I discovered all of my files had been moved into the Mac HD User folder and the computer was basically reset to factory settings. Not being a computer guru I ran Norton anti-virus which gave no results of a virus. My only thought is that it might have been an update malfunction or a corrupted file. Anybody have any ideas?

It's not a virus, and NAV usually does more harm than good, if it does anything.
Go to System Preferences > Startup Disk and select your internal HDD. The globe icon means the Mac is looking for a startup volume on the network.
FYI, the proper location for your files is in /Users/yourusername. But your statement about a return to default makes me think there's more going on.
Did you, by any chance, rename your home folder (the house icon in the sidebar)? If so, read this:

  • Globe Displays on Start Up

I recently tried to install Leopard on my MacBook; my only option was to Erase and Install and I really didn't want to do that. So I looked in the support section and found this is a common problem. I tried using disk utility while using the leopard install DVD still as my startup disc. It did not work so I did what they said next and quit disc utility and tried start up again from my hard drive. It was taking forever so I just shut down and tried to start up again. Now whenever I try to start up a flashing globe displays on start up for awhile on the blue screen, eventually it will load. I do not know what this means and I would like to figure out why this is happening before I try installing Leopard again. Any advice would be appreciated.

    Hi Clay...welcome.
What that means is your MacBook is trying to startup to a network volume that's not even there. When you do have it booted up go to System Preferences->Startup Disk and select the OSX volume not the globe.
I had trouble upgrading to Leopard but I did and Archive & Install (after a few failed attempts at upgrading) and it worked fine. It still keeps your system as it was (basically like an upgrade) so it's pretty painless.

  • Unknown Host Exception while starting weblogic 6.0

    Hi,
While starting weblogic 6.0 on win 95, i get following error.
    [java.net.UnknownHostException: default]
weblogic.utils.NestedError: Local host not known?! - with nested exception:
I have tried to change ports from 7001 and 7002, error is still there. I work on

    What else can be done?

    Hi.
Again, this is not a supported platform. I also believe this is some kind of network
setup issue on your win95 machine. Try comparing the tcp/ip setup differences between
your win98 machine and your win95 machine. If you are using dhcp you should try to
change your settings to support a static ip.
    Good luck.

    Hi.
The port is not the problem, it's something with your network setup - localhost
    is
not properly defined. I'm not sure about the error you posted below, but
    FWIW it
should be defined as localhost, not 'local host' (note the space).
In the bigger picture, however, you should try running WLS on a supported
    platform.
See the following link for this:

  • Turning on/off the flash while is recording a video in iOS 6 with an iPhone 4?

As the title says, from iOS 6 the turn on and turn off flash while I'm recording a video is gone.
I have an iPhone 4, but I think the problem is with the iPhone 4S too.
Could someone confirm that is a "new feature" of the magical and beautiful iOS 6? (sarcastic)
    Thanks

Sorry for being insistent, but are you sure that you can turn it on and off WHILE you're recording the video??? Since I'm able to enable or disable it before start recording, after that, the opcion in the corner disappears.

  • Decision Pop up while starting actual cost process

    Hi,
Can anyone help me on this?
I am getting a Decision Pop up while starting actual cost process.
Prior Inventory period has not been closed. Cannot proceed.
By clicking on continue, the accept button became available and I launched the process.
However, we are uncomfortable with that situation since it looks like that February period is closed for all inventory accounting periods under that LE. It is also the first time that we are getting that pop up decision screen since we are testing under R12. We want to understand the reason for that.
Note: it is the first time that we were trying to close a period before fully completing it (closing Feb period on Feb 29).
NOTE: This is in UAT. This does not occur in any other instance (Dev, PPB, CRP).
We normally did not perform final cost update and the calendar assignments org periods will be always open.
Let me know if you need any more details.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Kannan Jay

Thanks for your quick response yesterday!  After chatting with our official IT guy, He lined some things out for me.  We are using SQL 2005.  We discussed working up a program to add our data directly, which is an option.  It will take some learning on my part, and I am willing to do it.
It would be optimal, in my mind, to use our web version in conjunction with Labview.  But the more experienced person might know better.
When I call up our webpage on the front panel, I am able to navigate it by clicking around just like a normal browser.  Using this method, the refresh issue I mentioned in my original post is not a problem.  It refreshes with no pop-up.  BUT I lose the capability to place my data into the fields.  I am assuming the reference at the property node before the data placement is incorrect. (pictured below)
Is there a way to physically navigate a webpage and then use Labview to find the reference of whatever page I am currently on in order to place my data?  This might be the route I need to go.

  • I just downloaded pictures off of a flash drive, and half of the pictures are messed up?

I just downloaded pictures off of my flash drive and half of the picture comes out really oddly.... Example:
Does anyone know what is causing this?

Yes, forgetting the pictures, you desktop background is showing these color issues?
You need to contact Apple for diagnostic / repair.  You have a hardware issue with the logic board or logic feeder cable to monitor (unlikely the monitor itself).
You just bought it and its a Retina macbook Pro correct?    Never dropped or any water spills?
I was hoping that wasnt it until you said that.
while you STILL CAN see everything (even if off color) backup up ALL VITAL DATA to an external mem stick or hard drive.  Documents, pics, working files, etc etc

  • Suddenly apps don't start or crash while starting: Possible reasons?

    Hello,
from one minute to the next I've got massive problems with a lot of apps:
they don't start or crash while starting (resp. while executing a function).
I don't have any clue what could have happened. Last software-specific action
I did (half hour before the problems appeared) was to update the Flash player
(in the meantime I've removed it with App Cleaner).
    Troubleshooting steps I've tried:
-- Start the Mac in Save Mode
-- Use Apple Hardware Test (no damage found)
    -- Repair permissions
-- Check the volume with Disc Utiliy (no damage found)
I've also tried to use Onyx, but the app refuses my admin password
although it is valid and works.
    The specs of my Mac:
    -- Mac Mini Late 2012
    -- Yosemite 10.10.2
    -- RAM 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 (Samsung)
    -- 500 GB SSD Samsung 840 EVO
The following excerpts are from the crash reports of some of the apps.
Is someone out there who understand them and can give me
informations about the possible reason for the crashes?
    Thank you,
    Thomas

  • Any scan software crashes while starting it..?!

    Hello!
I have a Canon scanner connected to my iMac G5 PowerPC with OS X 10.4.11 and the "CanoScan" software worked all fine. But then, one day, it always crashed when trying to start it - couldn't start it since then, it always crashes while starting.
Now I also have an HP multi-function printer/scanner and the same thing happens when trying to start "HP Scan". (Printing works fine.)
Any idea how I could make scan software work again with my Mac?
    Thanks!

"10-07 15:44:26.890: WARN/ActivityManager(71): Launch timeout has expired, giving up wake lock!"
Ive seen that error before. :-) It looks like it is bombing out trying to initialize the "WAKE_LOCK" permission. Make sure that you have all the permissions included in your AIR app. If you download the latest Extension for Flash CS5, the App & Installer settings will have a new "Permissions" tab and then you can select the permissions that you would like to include. In your case "WAKE_LOCK". Then publish
In previous CS5 extensions you would have to open up the release notes and then copy and paste, then edit the permissions in your app.xml file. This makes life much easier.
    Hope this helps-

Solution would be easy ...like if the Essbase Agent is stopped using the services.msc (services panal)on Windows while a process is currently running, or if there has been an abnormal termination of the Essbase Agent, orphaned ESSSVR processes can be left. Shuting down the Essbase server using ESSCMD or MaxL then Check Task Manager confirm the ESSBASE.exe process later by this ESSSVR.exe processes should end if still NO then Do an "End Process" on any ESSSVR.exe process that is still running. Start the Essbase service and start the application.
ESSSVR.exe is process which keep application Alive (bad thing is if u have many applications running similarlly u have same numbe of ESSSVr .exe will be running in task master ..but u cant find out which one belongs to which application :( )
    Reasons
looking at your error i can say , First of all you need to know what is Lock in EAS ? and what locks exist
(right-click on Essbase Servername, EDIT->LOCK and EDIT->LOCKED OBJECTS, and if your database/outline appears in there, unlock it.)
Check any antivirus- and backup software that may be scanning / running on your Essbase folders as that can lock the files and any ESSSVR process stays when the Essbase Agent is stopped
More over another chance of getting error is when you have you page and index files in different location and rest otl, rep.csc script in another drive .. usually while taking back up in OTL,csc drive u do get created index file and page file even u have page and index file in diffrent drive so doe to this u get this error unable to load database
Hope this give u some idea

How are you starting the managed server? Is it a new install? The error suggests that the managed server is already running. You could check the windows task manager to see if there is a Java process running (or two if managed and admin server is on the same machine)

  • Error while starting Weblogic 11g on which OIF 11g is hosted

    Hi,
We have deployed/installed OIF(OIM) on WLS 11g on RH Linux 4.
We created a separate domain in WLS to host the OIF. The installation of OIF on WLS was completed successfully.
The setup was working fine when the installation completed however the WLS started facing the issues or started failing to start when we re-started the machine.
Note: The default domain(other then where OIF is hosted) in WLS starts without any errors. When we start the other domain where OIF is hosted the server gives the following error.
Any pointers and root cause of the error would be very much helpful to us.
    We appreciate you time.
    Thanking you in advance.
Following is the error trace that we get.

  • Severe problem while starting Lenovo 3000 N200

    Dear friends & experts,
I am using Lenovo 3000N200 0769BDG laptop. I have following problems while starting the system.
Recently my system was hacked against which I installed an Anti-Malware software. It showed that the system was free from any Malware.(But believe me, it is true that the system was hacked.). But each time on starting the system, a  black and white window  is being displayed which contains the following message:
We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows didnot start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this.
If your computer stopped responding, restarted unexpectedly, or was automatically shut down to protect your files and folders, choose Last Known Good Configuration  to revert to the most recent settings that worked.
If a previous startup attempt was interrupted due to a power failure or because the Power or Reset button was pressed , or if you aren't sure what caused the problem, choose Start Windows Normally.
    Safe  Mode
    Safe Mode with Networking
    Safe Mode with Command Prompt
Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked)
    Start Windows Normally
Use the up and down arrow keys to move the highlight to your choice.
    Seconds until Windows starts:30.....1
After 30 seconds, the Windows logo is displayed immediately followed by a Blue screen which lasts for 1 second and the system restarts.  I tried all the options listed above-- from Safe Mode to Start Windows Normally but the same problem recurrs. And the system doesn't shutdown until I press the power button.
I have a licensed version of Windows Xp SP3 as OS. I tried to repair the system using WinXP CD but I found the following message:
Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer.
Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that any disk-related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer-supplied diagnostic or setup program.
Setup cannot continue. To quit Setup, press F3.
A point to be noted is that earlier, I removed the Rescue & Recovery from my system  thinking that it might not be of much use and now, I lament for it.
When I press F3 the same window appeared and the same problem recurred.
I tried to access the files in my hard disk using Ubuntu CD and it was successful. I used Lenovo hardware quick test to check for any hardware faults, and my system passed all the tests.
I request you to help me in solving this problem so that I can continue my studies peacefully.
    Thanking you,
    With regards,
    T.I. Kiran

First off, being "hacked" and having viruses/malware are two different things. Someone hacking your computer doesn't really mean you have a virus/malware, it means an actual person gained access to your computer remotely and did something to it.
More than likely you got a virus that corrupt your Windows System directory and/or registry. Anti-malware software won't necescarily detect all viruses, especially executable that run commands to simply delete files.
The blue screen you're seeing is what us technicians call the BSOD (blue screen of death), it's an indication that there is a direct corruption with the core files that Windows requires to function properly.
As an IT Technician, if this were one of my laptops or one of my end-users, I would simply reload it with a fresh copy of Windows XP. There's a possiblity that all data you had on the laptop is gone because if the Windows core files are corrupt/missing, then that could very well mean your system was wiped completely but the boot table is in tact, hence the fact that you even have the option to boot Windows XP.
One other option I would suggest is try to reinstall Windows XP. Sometimes if you have the right copy of the install, it will let you reinstall the Windows XP core files, leaving your programs, files and directories in tact.
    Good luck.
