Picture on TV appears black & white

I have successfully connected my Toshiba laptop to my TV using the TV out (S-Video) connection to SCART. I have now purchased a new TV which is HD LCD but upon connection the screen is black & white.
I have searched everywhere and tried any possible combinations, but obviously not the right one as I can not resolve it.
It must be something simple, as I was able to view in color in my previous TV, but now I only see black & white in my new LCD TV.
Could anyone please advice?

Hello Dimitros
Believe me I have pretty much experience with connecting notebook to TV and LCD TV and all you must do is to enable the right port on your TV.
I have BRAVIA LCD TV and have tested several notebooks with different cables and adapters (S-Video, chinch, SCART, HDMI) and switching to the right channel (right port entrance) I have had perfect picture. For example, on my brothers JVC LCD TV those settings are not so simple and after almost half hour we were able to enable the S-Video port.
I will just say that settings are different on each LCD TV. If you can not do anything please talk with your local dealer. For TV experts it should be no problem.
But be sure: it has nothing to do with your Toshiba notebook.

  • I have an older version of imovie.  After I change the photos using the Ken Burns effect and save them, the next time I open the file and click 'show photo settings' to change the zoom, the picture appears black and I can't change the zoom?

    I have a five year old version of imovie that generally works fine.  However, when I add a photo using the 'Ken Burns' effect then save the movie, the next time I open the file and click 'show photo settings' the picture appears black and I cannot change the zoom.  Any suggestions?

    Have you rendered both iOS 7 and iOS 8 (both of which will work on your iPhone 5) out of the question entirely without trying every possible configuration? The animations can be disabled entirely, if that's the problem. And if the whiter-brighter user interface is the problem, there's reverse-contrast modes that darken everything. You can expose accessibility controls to gain immediate access to these functions to toggle them on and off. I guess my point is you may have decided against upgrading the OS based on an early experience with iOS 7 when Apple has since made changes in later revisions to address some of the usability complaints.
    Now, Apple's instructions for downloading older versions of apps is to do so from the Purchased list, not from the app's product page.
    See here:
    Install the latest compatible version of an app on an earlier version of iOS or OS X - Apple Support

  • Camera Raw and Black & White Pictures

    I am using Potoshop Elements 7.0 and I just downloaded the latest camera raw (5.2). However, both with the old and new camera raw plug when I import black & white pictures from my Nikon D80 in NEF format I see them as colour pictures in the PSE organizer. How can I keep the original format (black and white in this case) while importing the pictures?

    Your images are indeed color pictures. That's their original format. When you think you're shooting B&W, the camera built-in software just adds a flag for the camera manufacturer's raw converter to render them as B&W. ACR (Adobe Camera Raw) ignores that flag and leaves it up to you to convert the images to B&W through the method of your choice.

    Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
    1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
    2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
    Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
    1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
    2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
    3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
    4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    5 - Click on the Create button.
    Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Photoshop Elements 9 - how to highlight one colour in a black/white picture?

    hi guys
    with which feature can I highlight just one object (one colour) when the rest of the picture is black/white?
    Thanks for your help!

    Open a color image in Full Photo Edit
    On the top menu click Layer >>Duplicate Layer >>OK
    Enhance >>Convert To Black & White >>OK
    Add a layer mask by clicking on the layer mask icon at the bottom of the layers pallet.
    Select a brush and adjust its size, then make sure your foreground color is set to black.
    Gently brush over the area where you want to show the color from the background layer. If you make a mistake change the foreground color to white to erase what you just did, then switch back to black again.

  • My OWN personal contact picture/icon appears blank/white in Contacts/Mail!

    My own personal contact picture/icon appears blank/white in Contacts/Mail!
    This is very frustrating since I work very hard to keep up my contacts all up to date. Everyone seems to work fine, except for my own picture! Why???
    I took various advice such as:
    Try deleting the photo on each of your devices, once you are sure your photo is not attached to your card on any of your devices, re-add it on your Mac.
    You might also check, if you have a user account on more than one Mac, that the picture used in system preferences >users & groups do not contradict each other.
    Alas, nothing works. I chose my new picture in "System Preferences" but it appears blank in Contacts and in Mail. I kept my icon picture in my iPhone 4 clear and nothing yet has appeared their either.
    I think that the most frustrating part about all of this is that the minute I try to Edit my own picture in Contacts, I add the same picture that in my System Preferences (Users & Groups) and as soon as I press "done", the picture dissapears and becomes blank/white again. To add insult to injury, if I go back to edit my picture in Contacts and choose "recent", there's a blank (white) icon that appears as the latest utilised picture. I'm not 100% sure what that white image is, but I'm sure it has to do with iCloud somehow.
    Please help me, I would actually love to have an icon picture (Like all my other contacts!)

  • Black & White Photos to not appear in iPhoto

    I added several black & white photos into the library of iPhoto along with many color photos, but none of the black & white show.
    Each of the B & W have a black place holder but it is totally black. If I click a photo, it displays as a ghost image lacking detail.
    I originally edited these photo scans in Photoshop and saved them as a jpeg image without layers.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance

    I had same problem. I scanned and saved as greyscale, imported and then they show up as black in preview, etc. Is there any way to change the photos that I have already scanned and saved without having to scan all of them again under the new profile?

  • Black & white screen using DVI-to-Video adapter

    I've got a strange problem. I'm connecting my MacBook Pro to a Sony TV using Apple's DVI to Video adapter and a composite video cable.
    As soon as I make the connection, I see the Mac's screen appearing on my TV, but it is in black & white! And it flickers a little every few seconds. The only way to get to a colour screen seems to be to re-boot the MacBook. It's quite annoying.
    Previously, I've always had a colour picture come up immediately. The problem started to crop up right around the time I installed Snow Leopard, in fact, although I'm not sure whether it's a coincidence or not. And I don't think it's related to my TV. Any thoughts?

    same problem here... first time i plug it in after a reboot it's in color. when you disconnect it and try again later it'll be in black and white and there's nothing you can do to fix the problem. only choice you have is to reboot your computer. as you can imagine, having to reboot the computer every time you want to use the adapter is REALLY annoying

  • Photo appears black (but thumbnail looks ok)

    I have noticed that in iPhoto '08, any photo that has been cropped so it is larger in the y direction than the x direction ("taller than it is wide") appears black when I view it in full screen mode, or white in the window editor, but the thumbnail looks fine.
    This happens for old photos that I cropped in iPhoto '06 as well as new photos that I have recently cropped.
    Is this a common problem with iPhoto '08?

    J-a-x:
    First try deleting the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder.
    If that doesn't help boot into Safe Mode and see if you get the same crashing? If so then I would suggest you update to 10.4.10 via the COMBO updater, make sure you're running Quicktime 7.2 (update if necessary) and repair disk permissions after doing so.
    If you don't crash in Safe Mode then there's something afoul in your account. It may be another preference file, not iPHoto's, that interacts and causes the crashing. Here's how to troubleshoot those preference files:
    Trouble Shooting Preferences
    Go to HD/Users/Your_name/Library. Move the Preferences folder (in its entirety) to the Desktop and make a second copy of it so you have Copy A and B. Now try the the process again and determine if problem is fixed.
    If the problem IS fixed, then go to the new Prefs folder that the OS will have created and open it up.
    Open Copy B on the Desktop and select all of the items inside. Drag them into the open new library folder. When the Copy window comes up check the Apply to All check box and then click on the Don't Replace button as seen here. That will keep the new files created and bring back all of the others.
    If the problem is NOT fixed, trash the new Prefs folder and move the intact Copy A folder back to the Library folder .
    Do you Twango?
    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
    I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Black & White photos printing as purple

    My wife was copying some historical black & white family photos.  Six or so printed fine, then one photo changed from black & white to a purpleish tone at the 90% complete phase, only the bottom edge had changed colors.  We loaded another black cartridge believing this was the cause, but to no avail.  Now all Black & White photos are printing in purple.
    Standard printing is fine.
    Copying is fine.
    Scanning is fine.
    But photo printing of black & white pictures results in the copies being 100% purple toned.
    Why?
    HP 6510 printer, only two onths old.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    The printer uses color ink to print black when printing on photo paper because the pigmented black ink is not compatible with photo paper.  It appears you have run out of yellow ink.  I would suggest the troubleshooting steps in the document here to resolve the issue.  Be sure to check the vents on the yellow supply as shown in solution two.

  • MacBook - Black & white image on TV

    Please can somebody help with connecting my MacBook to a Sony trinitron TV
    I have a new MacBook and I'm using the following set up to connect to a 5 year old Sony TV -
    Apple mini-DVI to video converter into S-video lead connected to S-video to SCART adaptor - problem is that I only get a black & white image.
    Can anybody help = please?
    13" white MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Hi essman,
    As S-Video cables send their chroma (colour) and luminance (brightness) signals separately it sounds as though the problem may be found either in your S-Video cable or in one of the S-Video connectors. If only the luminance pins/wire was working correctly your video signal would appear to be in black and white.
    To ensure that the SCART adapter is not the problem however I would recommend testing with a composite video cable (also known as an RCA.) With that cable the entire video signal is sent over the one pin, so you either get video or you don't. If over that connection it's still black and white, I would say the blame lies with the SCART adapter.
    Hope this helps!

  • DVI to Video is black & White

    Hi, I've just bourght a Apple DVI to Video PAL edition to use with my tv, but the picture is in black & white.
    Normal you get a black & white picture on the tv if you use ntsc stuff on european tv's, but it is a pal adaptor.
    Any sugestions to solve the problem?

    I've tried that, but it doesn't help.
    Do you, in fact, see the option to select between NTSC and PAL in the Displays System Preferences? (Just to make sure everything is being detected correctly.)
    Are you using an s-video cable or a composite video cable? Can you try a different cable and/or port on your TV?

  • Using a script to get the color of a colorized Black & White Bitmap image

    I've been running into this wall for quite some time and would greatly appreciate any help that can given for it.
    I have an Illustrator script that runs inside of a BridgeTalk session within an InDesign script.  Yeah, it's complicated.  The upshot is that the Illustrator part opens up an EPS file, looks through all objects on a certain layer in that file, and returns an array of the colors used in it.  So, it looks at fill colors, stroke colors, gradient stops, etc.  One of the biggest stumbling blocks (next to PlugIn Items, which I'll ask about in a separate post) is getting the color of raster images.
    Most raster images, I realize, are going to be CMYK or RGB images, but our company mostly deals with either Grayscale images or Black & White Bitmaps that are embedded in the EPS file.  Those two allow the ability to colorize them by simply selecting them and then choosing a color, such as a spot PANTONE color from one of their color books.
    Now, I need the script to read the color that the raster image has been colorized with.  This works okay for images that have a GrayScale color space, as the script just looks at Colorant[0] of that image.  However, I run into a problem with Black & White Bitmap images.  Here's a piece of code that I try to make work with an EPS file that has a raster image:
    var document = app.activeDocument;
    for (var i = 0; i < document.layers[0].pageItems.length; i++) {
              // Stepping through each item on the layer.
              var currentItem = document.layers[0].pageItems[i];
              $.writeln("Current item is " + currentItem.typename);
              $.writeln("Number of channels is " + currentItem.channels);
              $.writeln("Color Space is " + currentItem.imageColorSpace);
              $.writeln("Colorized Grayscale? " + currentItem.colorizedGrayscale);
              $.writeln("Number of Colorants: " + currentItem.colorants.length);
              for (var j = 0; j < currentItem.colorants.length; j++)
                        $.writeln("Colorant number " + j + " is " + currentItem.colorants[j]);
              $.writeln("Its parent is " + currentItem.parent);
              $.writeln("Parent's typename is " + currentItem.parent.typename);
    This code runs successfully on an Illustrator file that has a Black & White Bitmap image on the top layer, but if you try and run it, you'll see the problem:  Even if you've colorized your Bitmap image with a PANTONE spot color (and the script even returns "true" on the line "Colorized Grayscale?"), Colorant number 0 is "Gray".  It should be the spot color assigned, not "Gray".
    Can anyone please help me figure out how to get the script to recognize the actual colorant of a Black & White Bitmap image in Illustrator?

    If you're a professional photographer with 50,000 pictures stored now and more coming all the time, you need to forget about using iPhoto and get yourself some professional-quality digital asset management software. iPhoto is not meant for people like you, and instead of providing a simple, elegant one-stop answer to all your needs, iPhoto is actually complicating your life.
    You need an application that will:
    - catalog ALL your images and keep track of where they are, no matter how many DVDs, folders, partitions or hard drives they're spread over;
    - display thumbnails of ALL of them, even when the DVD that contains them is not present in any drive, so you can select all the ones you want for a project;
    - find and copy (or export) the originals of all the files you've selected in the browser window, even if it means prompting you to insert the necessary DVDs for all of them.
    I suggest Googling "digital asset management software Macintosh" and seeing what turns up. I used to use an old version of Extensis Portfolio, and even that would have been better for your purposes than iPhoto is.
