Picture Orientation problem with Konica Minolta Dynax 7D in iPhoto'08

Hello,
as far as I know the Dynax 7D has a bug concerning saving the picture orientation correctly in the EXIF tags. OK, that is definitly no Apple issue. But if I want to import pictures from the camera, in +the preview+ of the iPhoto import the portrait pictures are displayed in +correct orientation+. If I do the import, afterwards the portrait pictures are +in landscape mode again+, so I have to turn them manually. So the software is able to cope with portrait pictures, but chooses not to apply this...
This is the point I would like to have fixed or at least to have a automatic workaround. Any suggestions are welcome. Did anybody solved that problem already?
Will there be a fix for that behaviour in iPhoto'08?
Best wishes

Create a new test library and import a few of the problem files into it to see if they will display properly. If they do then it's a problem with the current library. If they don't then you'll need to see if it's system wide or limited to your account. To do that log into another account, create a test library and try there. If you don't have a second account it's a good thing to have because it's a great troubleshooting tool. Just create a non-admin test account.
If it works in the second account your primary account is causing it. It could be some other preference file other than iPhoto's that is the culprit. Here's how to determine if that's the case:
Trouble Shooting Preferences in Leopard
1 - Create a folder titled "Preferences A" on the Desktop.
2 - Open the working Preferences folder, HD/Users/your_name/Library/Preferences, and move the contents to the Preferences A folder on the Desktop.
3 - Make a duplicate copy of the Preferences A folder on the Desktop as a precautionary backup.
4 - With the working Preferences folder empty run the application again and determine if the problems is fixed.
5 - If the problem is fixed:
A - open the working Preferences folder (HD/Users/your_name/Library/Preferences).
B - Open the Preferences A folder on the Desktop, select all of the contents and drag them into the working Preferences folder.
C - When the Copy window pops up check the "Apply to All" check box and then click on the Don't Replace button as seen here.
6 - If the problem is NOT fixed, empty the working Preferencess folder and move the contents of the Preferences folder on the desktop back into it.
If the problem persists in both accounts a reinstall of iPhoto may be warranted. If it gets to that point you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder before you install iPhoto from the disk it came on.

  • Printing problem with Konica Minolta BizHub282 using RDP on Windows Server 2008 R2

    Hello,
I have an office setup as follows:  Local office IP adress scheme 192.168.201.x.  There is a Konica Minolta BizHub 282 printer connected to the 192.168.201.x network as well as around 10 workstations running Windows 7.  There are also about
10 additional teleworkers WHO DO NOT NEED print access to the Minolta 282.  All of their data is on a cloud server.  I have them setup to first connect to the cloud server using a RRAS PPTP VPN and then to start an RDP session to the separate
RDP server.  The Konica Minolta works ??okay?? with the easy print services and until now, we have just dealt with the lack of features and the occasional print job that goes crazy and prints out 400 blank pages (btw, this is usually on Excel) or a job
that cuts off the margins even when you have it set to "fit to page" (this usually happens in Adobe.)  When I originally set this up, I tried loading the native Konica drivers on the server, but there was no joy because I couldn't get it to
work using the native drivers.  The problem at hand is a feature called "account track."  This feature authenticates your print job by using an account code.  If there is no code, the job just disappears.  When I load the native
Konica driver, the ability to turn on this feature is greyed out (see below):
When I use easy print, the codes seem to go through, but as I mentioned earlier, sometimes the print job just goes insane.  After researching this, it seems to me that there are two ways to overcome this if we can't turn off the account track feature:
    1) Overcome the driver problem. I've tried both of their current drivers without success: VXL and Visual Postscript. When I login to RDP, the (redirected) Konica 282 printer is listed, but when I try to print, it fails due to the missing account track code.
I'm hoping that there is a registry hack to turn this feature on by default with the code or a driver version that works with RDP. They have a WHQL driver available, but it didn't work any better. Is there a way to report this issue to the WHQL labs? Maybe
I can light a fire under Konica's rear end and motivate them to fix the driver.
    2) I saw one discussion where the guy installed the printer out in the clouds as a local printer. He seemed to have a site-to-site VPN, not a client-to-site VPN, so this worked.  Is there a way to do something similar when the customer connects to the
VPN through standard "connect to workplace" setup?  I tried pinging the Konica 282 from the server while logged into the VPN, but the printer could not be found.
    3) I considered setting it up as a google cloud print prnter, but that would require everyone to setup a google account and add a layer of complexity.
Anyone else run into this and have a solution?  If not, does anyone have any ideas on a solution or workaround?
    Thanks,
    Jeffery Smith

    Hi Jeffery,
    Thank you for your comment.
Yeah, you can use universal print driver by configuring Remote Desktop Easy print on RDS Server. Install the driver on RDS server. Now to configure Easy print you need to have minimum client RDP 6.1(But suggest you to install RDP 8.1), .Net Framework 3.5 or
    above and RDSH role.
Also under GPO setting need to check below settings.
Do not allow client print redirection: Disable
Use Terminal Service Easy print printer driver first: Enable
Computer Configuration > Administrative templates > Windows Components > Remote Desktop Services > Remote Desktop Session Host > Printer redirection
For more information, you can refer below articles.

  • Printing Problem with Konica-Minolta CF2002

I have two different MacPro 2.66Ghz models running 10.4.8. I can not get them to provide full functionality to our Minolta CF2002. Using the EFI Driver w/ the PPD provided my Minolta I can print, but can not access features such as duplexing and paper thinkness - plus I can not even print from some apps such as Quark and Acrobat. If I use the Generic Postcript driver with the same PPD I can print from all apps, but still do not have access to all the functionality of the printer. I also have G4 machines running OS 9.2 which can access all functions and print to this same printer fine.
I tried resetting the printing system, PRAM, reinstalling PPDs all to no avail. Does anyone have experience or suggestions with this?

    Hi there,
The problem you are having is with the Print Dialog Extensions (PDEs) for the Fiery. At this stage there is a limited number of drivers with Universal versions of these plugins. Therefore the options either don't appear, or appear with a line through them, when printing from Universal applications. The workaround is to set the Universal application to open using Rosetta. Do a Get Info on the app in the Finder and select this option if it is present (it's not there for everything). With this set the option should appear and function.
As for Quark, there is word that EFI and Quark are working on a fix to resolve issues with v7.x printing to Fiery devices. A workaround in the meantime is to comment out the line in the PPD pointing to the fierycupsfilter.

  • IPhone to image capture picture orientation problem.

I am having a problem with my iPhone 3G (2.2.1) and pictures. I've seen several other topics about this but none of them address or fix the problem for me (since most of them are from people using other applications like Picasa or iPhoto). Opening up every picture in an image editor and rotating it before syncing back to my iphone is NOT a solution. It's a bandaid.
    Here is the problem.
Take a picture with iPhone. Connect to Mac. Image Capture app launches and I "Download All" to Pictures folder in Home folder. Images are deleted from the iPhone and moved into the Pictures folder. Opening an image from the Pictures folder opens them in the correct orientation in Preview.
iTunes is set to import all pictures from the Pictures folder. Sync iPhone. Images are uploaded to the photo library and all of them are rotated 90 degrees CCW. Turning the phone causes the images to rotate automatically to retain "correct orientation" which is still wrong.
Uploading an image from the phone (to Facebook for example) from the Photo Library results in a rotated image on the server.
None of the suggestions I've seen so far are a "solution". I don't want to open every image I take in iPhoto and rotate it before I sync it back to my Photo Library.
My question is how do I fix this, or prevent it from happening? Alternatively, is this a recognized bug that Apple intends to fix?

This is a useful method to minimize the problem, but it is still not a solution. It is unacceptable that I should have to resort to an extra step using a third party application to get my pictures onto my device, especially considering this problem didn't previously exist.
I am using all Apple tools (iPhone, iMac, image capture, iTunes) because I want to maintain the integrity of the process.
I know this problem is related to EXIF information in the image resulting in an unwanted rotation. IF I open an image in another program, I can clearly see that the image dimensions are listed at 1200x1600 (portrait). Either image capture or iTunes is modifying or removing these values before the image is optimized and added to the Photo Library on the phone, resulting in an orientation mismatch.
I guess I'm going to have to call Apple.

  • Slideshow picture orientation problem

I found some very old posts on apparently related problems, but nothing recent. It is June 3, 2012. My AppleTV firmware is current. My iPad (3) OS is up to date. As best I can tell, everything is up to date.
When I play a slideshow on my iPad, it plays perfectly.
When I play the same slideshow using AppleTV, pictures which should be displayed 'vertically' are displayed rotated 90 degrees, i.e., horizontally.
I'm not willing to edit my pictures to correct this. There are simply too many, plus, they display correctly everywhere except in an AppleTV slideshow and in the wonderful windows picture viewer which Microsoft doesn't seem inclined to ever fix. They display correctly using AppleTV 'manually'. The slideshow feature is the only place I see a problem.
So it seems clear to me that there is a software issue associated with running a slideshow using AppleTV. The problem could be in the iPad. The problem could be in the AppleTV. Perhaps, if one really stretches, the problem could be in my wireless network. The only thing that is certain is that there is a problem. Please help!

Create a new test library and import a few of the problem files into it to see if they will display properly. If they do then it's a problem with the current library. HELP required please!
I Have bought the 5430 DL and have run into problems installing the latest drivers.

With this tool I found the problem.
The communication and connection was correct, I used the wrong command.
You have first to switch the device into the remote mote with “RMTS,1” (witch in not really good described in the communication note).

  • IPhoto MobileMe uploaded picture orientation problem

Hi, I scanned a number of old photos into iPhoto and moved the photos to upright orientations (portrait and landscape). I then organized them under a single event and published to the MobileMe Gallery. Once uploaded, however, the orientations of some of the photos are all messed up, unlike the ones displayed on iPhoto. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the apple and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
    Then re-publish the gallery.

  • Problems with Canon PowerShot SD450 movies and iPhoto (6.0.2)

I recently got a Canon PowerShot SD450 and got a 2GB memory stick for it. I took some movies with the SD450 but am having a **** of a time getting iPhoto to pull movies off the camera that are > 500MB, give or take. Small movies are fine. I've downloaded movies that are 10MB, 50MB, 200MB, all fine.
When I have a > 500MB movie in the camera, iPhoto will try to download it; The hard drive will spin and grind for a few minutes as it, from what I can gather, downloads the movie and then iPhoto will say import complete, but the movie doesn't show up in the library.
Anyone aware of any limitations with iPhoto in that regard? Clip size or something?

    Hi Jason,
When iPhoto 5 first came out I really think it was programmed to import the smaller 30 sec video clips that cameras were taking at the time. Since then, digital cameras, at least my Canon S2 can take clips as large as your memory card can hold. The first time I tried to download my images and movie clips with my new camera, iPhoto stalled at the movie clips. I wasn't going to take any chances messing up my iPhoto Library so I started using Image Capture to download all my images and Movie clips. I actually like doing it this way a lot better. My movie clips are downloaded into my Movies folder where I then put them in a dated folder.
My photos are downloaded into my Pictures folder, where I then put them in a dated folder. I import the dated folder into iPhoto. I also keep all dated folders from photo downloads in the Pictures folder till I get enough Movie folders and Photo folders to fill a DVD. I burn them and then delete them from the hard drive.
This way I have the photos in iPhoto and I also have just the photos backed up to DVD.
The Movies I keep on the hard drive in their dated folders until I use all the clips for my iMovie projects for the Year. I then make sure they are all burned to DVD, then I delete those from my hard drive.
Using Image Capture to download images and video clips:
Open up Image Capture which is found in the Applications folder.
When it is opened, go to Image Capture/Preferences
    Under the General button choose
Camera: When a camera is connected, open Image Capture.
The next time you connect your camera Image Capture will open.
In the window that opens you will see an Options button. Click on that button to set your options.
To find out more about Image Capture (it can do a lot more) Click on Help in the menu bar when Image Capture is open.
iPhoto: How to Change the "Open Automatically" Preference
If you find you can't change any of Image Captures preferences or can't access any drop down menus or they are greyed out, check to make sure Image Capture is loose in the Applications folder and not within a sub folder.

  • Problems with old photos after upgrading to iPhoto 08

Normally I am very good about backing up my photos. I had iPhoto06 for a couple of years, and had updated all of my photos through the end of 10/08. I got iPhoto08 at the end of December (yes...wish I waited) and installed it before backing up my November and December photos. Now for some reason, I can't do anything with the photos from that two month period. If I click to open the thumbnail pictures in iPhoto it just shows a big exclamation point. When I open package contents it does not show any photos that I already had in my iPhoto06 library, although the thumbnails all appear when I open iPhoto. The only reason I can access the other old files is because they had been independently backed up. I can't export, drag and drop and or do anything with the files from that two month period. Any suggestions?

Sounds like your database file has been damaged:
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • Problem with colours and tonalty in LR 1.1 conversions

Im having hard times trying to get great colour and tonalty out of LR conversions. Some times it seems that its just impossible to get there where I want with LR. No matter how much I tweak sliders in Calibration Tab or in Colour Adjustment Tab, subtle tones and colours are just impossible to get.
    Example
Both pictures have been edited in converters only resizing and text has been inserted in photoshop. Picture taken with Konica Minolta 7D.
    http://luotokuva.fi/noudettavat/Oranssi_2.jpg
    1. Under cloud there is subtle colour gradient with DxO conversion that LR conversion lacks
    2. Colour transitions in DxO versions have much more life. There is just one tone on lake in LR vesion.
    3. Suns reflection in LR conversion clips and is ugly. Again DxO verson has far more natural tonalty.
For those who believe they can do better job with LR conversion here is the raw file for them to play.
    http://www.luotokuva.fi/noudettavat/PICT0906.zip
I hope LR conversions would be better because programs usability is far better than DxOs.
    -Sampsa Kaijaluoto - Finland

The problem is not in the tone, but in the lack in the number of tones. I can change the colors, but i can't get the colors to slide in a perfect gradient. Look these images:
This is how the area around the sun should look (Canon DPP)
    http://jkphoto.pp.fi/upload/sun_dpp.jpg
And this is how Lr converts it with defaults:
    http://jkphoto.pp.fi/upload/sun_acr.jpg
In past i have done accurate profiles for my cameras to ACR with the color checker and calibration script and calibration has no effect on how the tones just clip off.

  • Printing Tip for Konica Minolta Bizhub C550

    Hi all,
I've been browsing the forums for the last week, as I just upgraded to Leopard at work. We use a Konica Minolta BizHub C550 for the vast majority of our printing jobs, and I found that I was having the problem others have described with the print queue inexplicably stalling repeatedly, with the job never getting printed. I'm up and running on our other 2 printers, a Magicolor 7450 and Canon iPF700.
In any case, I have found a good workaround for the BizHub. I am using the printer drivers for the Xerox WorkCentre 7655 with good results. I can choose the correct paper sizes and settings, and don't seem to be having any color matching issues (yet). So I wanted to share this, as I didn't see it in the forums when I was initially freaking out about the situation. Our sales rep we lease the printer from has been communicating with KM all week, and they apparently have no clue when they'll be ready with 10.5 compatible drivers.

    Wow,
I am not alone!!! I recently agreed to a lease of a C550. We have both Windows and Mac workstations and the performance is very poor in the Mac environment. The drivers are severely crippled.
I have been working with my sales rep, a color specialist, and an application specialist from KM and all three of them have had the same problems when testing files. And no one has offered a resolution. I should I have stayed with Xerox.
I have had the same problem as you described. As well as very bad color results. If I try to send a file in CMYK mode on the Mac workstation everything is extremely dark (Light Brown turns Black, etc.) The same file on the windows computer in CMYK is fine. Also, I have taken the same files to a Xerox dealer to compare. The files came out much more accurate (as close as can be expected for a color laser print). I have been in the design and printing industry for over 10 years and I have never been this disappointed. I am curious to see how things turn out and how many other Apple user are left behind with Konica Minolta Drivers.

  • IPhoto - MobileMe gallery subscription - problem with password-protected

I am having a peculiar problem with subscribed galleries from MobileMe in iPhoto 08 and iPhoto 09. For galleries that have password-protection enabled, the full URL of the gallery subscription feed is pulled through as the Subscription title instead of the gallery title.
    For example "http://gallery.e.com/ACCOUNT-NAME/XXXXXX/?webdav-method-truthget&depth=infinit y&feedfmt=atom....
This doesn't occur for public MobileMe galleries. The title of the gallery comes across and the URL of the subscription is hidden.
Anyone having similar problems? Local Genius Bar couldn't help and assumed it was just a bug, but it doesn't seem to be typical of Apple.
As an aside, it would also be nice to have these feed subscriptions behave similarly to the way RSS subscriptions work in Mail, with the ability to select how often the feed is queried and indicate the number of new items. This would alert users of changes to feeds.
    Joe

Upon further research, it appears that this problem occurs when publishing from either iPhoto or Aperture to MobileMe. The problem seems to be when a gallery is published and one chooses not to have the gallery appear on the main gallery page (hidden). It seems to have nothing to do with whether or not one protects the gallery with a password.
So, Apple, if you are listening, can you provide any information on how to have the title of the gallery come through when subscribing using iPhoto while at the same time not listing the gallery on the main MobileMe gallery page? This seems to be a fixable bug.
