Picture Slide Show - Macbook Pro with retina display

Is the Macbook Pro with retina display capable of doing picture slide shows with music, or do I have to purchase additional software?

The only benefit that the Retina has over the standard MacBook Pro is the display.  It is slightly thinner (and lighter), but with the 13" model, the difference is fairly minimal.  If you're comfortable carrying the Retina, you'd be fine carrying the MB Pro as well.  Also, for all intents and purposes, while the display on the standard MB Pro is not a Retina display, it is still one of the best displays on the market and will easily provide a better image quality than most displays in similarly classed laptops.  Another thing to consider is that both the 13" Retina and standard MBP have only an integrated HD4000 GPU.  This is a fairly low power graphics processor built into the CPU.  It can easily run the display on the standard MB Pro, but it can sometimes struggle with the Retina as there are several times more pixels to drive.
So...
13" MacBook Pro Retina:  Fantastic display, slightly thinner/lighter
13" MacBook Pro: Not at the same level as the Retina, but still an excellent display.  Slightly thicker, but as you said, you get an optical drive as well.  Memory and storage are easily upgradable.  As Kappy mentioned, the get a faster processor as well.

  • Why 15' Macbook Pro with Retina Display Shows 4K Resolution?

I discover a very interesting problem when taking a screen capture in 15 inch Macbook Pro with Retina display under different screen resolution settings.
Please see the image below first.
Info on the Left : Screen captured in "Default" setting, which is the best retina setting, everything is huge and very Sharpe.
Info on the Right: Screen captured under the "More Space" setting, which everything looks small and give more space.
The problem is the screen captured file pixel resolution in each screen resolution settings:
The "Default" screen setting showing the correct pixels at 2880 by 1800 which is perfect.
The "More Space" setting is showing 3480 by 2400, at 4K resolution.
    My question is:
Why is that when the display is under "More space" setting result with more pixels?
Can anyone help me to explain this with this please?

I'm not sure what is to explain. "More space" works by pretending that there are more pixels available on the screen than the physical screen has, so it's not too surprising that a screen shot should have more pixels.

  • I can no longer shoot directly into phaseone software since i use my new macbook pro with retina display. pictures are not transfered from the camera into captureone. anyone else with this problem? any solutions?

My eyes just glazed over...Please in the future break down each of your issues with paragraphs separated by two carriage returns. It would be much easier when trying to address your issues.
Go to Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Keyboard and Mouse -> Mouse
And edit your mouse settings to do what you want it to do.
Secondly, this is not the place to vent. If you have a complaint, there is:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/
    or http://www.apple.com/contact/
We are just end users here helping other end users.
Third, from my understanding, it would appear you are concerned about the noise the hard drive makes when it falls asleep? Why not put your machine in screen saver mode instead? Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Energy Saver turn off all Energy Saver settings, or set them to run Never.
Fourth, if your machine was purchased just a few days ago, you may still be able to get an exchange from the store, quicker than you can get a repair done. You may want to look into that possibility.
Fifth, it does appear you found the Logic forum. I would persist in asking there how to solve your technical issue with Logic regarding the audio. It may be you don't have to do anything special to the hard drive. Remember audio can be transmitted by wire, avoiding ambient sounds.
    Good luck!

  • Tiny white spot on MacBook Pro With Retina Display Screen

I bought my MacBook Pro with retina display on July 10,2012 It has been working fine but then, I noticed a white spot on the left side of the screen. It's real tiny, proably not even an inch big but I can see it. Other peole have not been able to see it, But I can. I spoke to AppleCare, they said to mail it in to have them look at it since I don't live near an Apple Store. But is it really worth sending my computer in for something that is so small? It is also too late to return my computer.
P.S I think and so does AppleCare, that it is a dead pixel
Should I send it in? Has anyone ever mailed in their computer to Apple before? What is it like? Is it a good or bad experiance? How long does it take for you to get it back?
    Thank You!

I think we have the same issue. I bought my Macbook rpo retina last sept 2012. I jsut discovered it recently as I often watch Tv shows on my ipad3. I happened to watch a tv show in my mbpr lately and saw this tiny white flickering dot on the top left corner of my display. I see it only intermittently meaning in some instances you see it sometimes not. It only happens when in full screen using QT player. If I minimize it and back to ful scrn, the dot disappears. After few mins it may or may not show up.
I brought it to apple customer service and they cant  duplicate the issue. I told them its random and they should wait for it. They said theyve been watching tv shows in full scrn for 2 days already and it didnt happen. I even showed them  video clips - I record the tiny dot flickering using my iPhone - but still they cant reproduce the issue. After I brought it back home, I immediately watch a TV show and see it once again. It dosappears once you minimize it and returning to full scrn mode the flickering disappears.
So I thought Why would it disappear once I minimize it? If its hardware then it should be there all the time! and so I use VLC player instead to check if it would happen as well. for sevral days, I used vlc player to watch all movies/videos and IT DID NOT HAPPEN AT ALL! There is no tiny white dot flickering with VLC! and so I thought maybe this is firmware or driver...and so when the macbook pro has an update recently about 2.0 something...I thought it would resolve the issue but it didnt.
I have inserted a copy of the flickering tiny white dot...

  • MacBook Pro with Retina display not transferring new songs.

I have the 15" MacBook Pro with Retina display. When I plug my iPod classic (4th gen) into my MacBook, my iTunes does not display that it has been connected as it does with my iPhone. However, screen on my iPod shows that it is connected. Also, my newly purchased songs are not getting transferred from my iTunes to my iPod.

What have you tried so far in terms of troubleshooting this issue? Are you plugging the iPod into a high powered USB 2.0 port on the back of your Mac?  Have you tried another USB cable just in case?
What happens if you try to reset the device with it still connected to the Mac?

Have you carefully worked through each and every single suggestion in this Apple support document?

  • MacBook Pro with retina display

    Hi
I just have to check. Is it only my MacBook Pro with retina display that has trouble veiwing this website correct... You have to test it in safari
    Url: http://demo.gavick.com/joomla16/jul2012/

I dont think you can get an arabic keyboard on a macbook pro though apple.
You have 2 alternative options; you can buy an external arabic keyboard and plug it in through the usb, or you can buy an overlay for the english character keys like the rubber one I have a picture of (probably the best bet).

  • Help! Macbook Pro with Retina Display!

    Hi Apple community.
I hope you can help me. 1 year has passed with my Macbook Pro with Retina display (15-incher). Got a small but visible ghostning. All the uper dock is visible in darker background. I couldn't believe it until I discovered with a bit of code and Terminal App, that I had LG screen which many said had problems. I thought I had a Samsung one since I really took care of it and never seemed to notice anything, until now. My guarantee just went out and I didn't purchase any Apple Care because I never thought I needed it and as a Student, my budget didn't allow. It took me 3 months to achieve the amount required for payment for this laptop. What can I do, is there a way Apple could show sympathy and repair my Macbook Pro? I live in Sweden and currently study. All the necessary programs are in my Macbook Pro.
Please share some advice, I'd really appreciate it.

Firstly, I'd like to know which will be the better base model as a notebook... if this is possible?
But, for info sake, I will be using it for composing on Sibelius Software, lots of word processing and browsing.
    Small scale photo-editing.
    Thanks,

  • Flash Builder looks blurry on Macbook Pro with Retina displays

    Hello,
Flash Builder interface looks blurry on MacBook Pro with Retina displays.
    Here is the screenshot:
    http://i.imgur.com/qMmmu.png
Expand the image to the actual size, and notice that Flash Builder interface looks blurry.
    Please fix this issue.
    Andrey

I was having the same issue - couldn't believe my eyes on how horrible and fuzzy Flash Builder looked on my new Macbook Pro w Retina.  Was suffering through it for the past week and just found this work around that someone figured out for Eclipse that also works on Flash Builder (guess b/c it's built on Eclipse).  Here's the link to the bug report that shows the work around (Thanks to Brad Hudgeons):
    https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=382972
here's a cut and paste from the bug report in case the above url gets removed:
Here's the workaround:  Do "Show package contents" on the Eclipse.app.  Edit Contents/Info.plist.  Just above  </dict> </plist>  Place this:  <key>NSHighResolutionCapable</key> <true/>
Instead of Eclipse, show package contents on Adobe Flash Builder 4.6.app.   After you edit the Info.plist file, go back up to the Adobe Flash Builder 4.6.app and duplicate it.  It will create a Adobe Flash Builder 4.6 copy.app.  Delete your original Adobe Flash Builder 4.6 and rename the Adobe Flash Builder 4.6 copy.app to Adobe Flash Builder 4.6.app.  Then launch Flash Builder - you should see text that is much clearer.  The graphics on the ui are still blurry but at least the text should be crisp.

  • How do I connect an external microphone to a Macbook Pro with Retina display ?

How do I connect an external microphone to a Macbook Pro with Retina display ?
Alternatively how do I connect an audio input at a level that would normally have gone into a 'line input' socket ?

Plug it into the linein/headphone jack if there's just one.  It'll switch between the two modes automatically depending on what you plug into it.

  • The quality of built-in camera on macbook pro with retina display is far worse than any other mac. Why?

I just got the new macbook pro with retina display like a week ago and I've been noticing that the quality of the built-in camera on it is so bad.
It's even worse than my 2009 iMac or my sister's 2012 13" macbook pro. I don't get why this is a facetime HD built-in camera when i can obviously see that is not even near HD. Or is it just my computer. Do i have to bring it to the apple store??

it's advertised 720p so yes it is the same as all the other MBP.  it may just be the resolution of your monitor is stretching the pixels.  Don't worry about bringing it to the apple store.

  • Is there a way to digitize audio using the headphone input on the 15-inch (late 2013) Macbook Pro with Retina display?

I'd like to digitize audio from a minidisc player into my 15-inch (late 2013) Macbook Pro with retina display, but can't see a way to change the internal mic input.  I understand that previous MacBooks allowed the headphone jack to double as a mic input, but mine doesn't seem capable of switching.  I've tried using a mini to mini cable, with no luck, and also tried using a headset splitter adapter (3.5 mm 4-pin to 2x3-pin 3.5 mm headset splitter adapter from Amazon) because I read that that would allow me to plug in headphones and input audio.  But in both cases, the only "input" available in my sound preferences is the built-in internal microphone.  Am I missing something?  Is there a way to digitize audio through the headphone jack?

Not likely. headphone jacks are usually output only devices unless specifically stated to support input, and even then, it may not be audio input that they support, but merely control input for volume and such.
You can get a USB audio input instead. i.e:

  • What cable do I need in order to migrate from Macbook Pro (December 2008) to the new Macbook Pro with Retina display?

It's driving me crazy; I have a firewire, but it isn't compatible with the ports on the new macbook pro with retina display.
    Thanks for your help!
