Picture thumbs in finder wrong

I upgraded to Lion when it first came out - I have been using it for months now, and all of a sudden many of the thumbs of the photos in finder are of a different photo - when I click on the photo the correct photo is accessed, but the thumbs are of something completely different. This makes it very difficult to find something without knowing the exact filename (I have tens of thousands of photos for work so this is not practical)
HELP>>>>
Thank you in advance.
I have a MacBook Pro using intel chip

It's best to delete (or rename) photos from within iPhoto.  iPhoto can get very confused if you remove them directly from Finder.

  • I can't see my pictures in teh finder using Quick look or Cover flow

I have iPhoto8 installed and it works fine, but I cannot get a look at my library of photos without opening iPhoto. I thought I was supposed to be able to use the finder and cover flow to see my pictures quickly to find the one I wanted without opening iPhoto? When I go to pictures I get the icon for the iphoto program and it says iphoto library, but I cant see pictures. Am I doing something wrong?

With iPhoto 7 the old iPhoto Library Folder has become a Unix Style Package folder. The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves.
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
For 10.5 users: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use THIS
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
All of these are safer and fster than surfing the iPhoto Library Folder.

  • Why is my picture library in finder different than in IPhoto

i want to drag my picture library in finder to an external drive.  But when i compare the pictures in finder it does not have all of the folders i have set up in iphoto

    Hello ccfr1234,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
If you are seeing different photos in another iPhoto Library on your computer than what you're used to, then you likely have opened another library which is on your computer.  To see the iPhoto Libraries stored on your computer, please follow the directions below.
    To switch between photo libraries:
    Quit iPhoto.
Hold down the Option key as you open iPhoto.
Select the library you want to switch to.
    Click Choose.
iPhoto '11: Create a new iPhoto library or switch between libraries
    Take care,
    Alex H.

My pictures get shuffled into wrong events when syncing to iPad mini. Any suggestions?

Photos are sorted by date modified when you sync from iTunes. If you have them arranged out of date sequence, they will not sync that way onto the iPad. You can read more here.

After scanning a picture i cannot find it on my iMac. the scanner says it was sent and to check my computer screen.

Thanks, Tom.  As you can see, I was spelling it incorrectly!  Sorry for wasting everyone's time.
Actually, I am interested in getting better with some command line work, although I have to admit I'm tremendously rusty.  My last work with Unix was > 10 years ago.
    Appreciate the reply.
By the way, I'll also consider Carbon Copy Cloner.  Looks like a great program for point-and-click folks like me.

I use iphoto 11.n my photostream is activated n it shows its uploading but nothing come on my cloud.

I had to go to icloud online and click on my profile and advanced options then photostream came up. When you get to 1000 photos it stops uploading so you have to erase and resync to start the process again

  • See an edited picture unedited in finder

    Hello guys and girls.
I really need to see an edited picture unedited in finder. I have seen it before with my own eyes on my own computer that it works.
I saw an edited picture in this view in finder:
    http://img413.imageshack.us/img413/5781/lolfzf.png
and i saw more than the original picture was shown, I mean, lets say the picture above didnt have the left building when having the picture in Preview.app, But in this view in finder i can see the picture, i mean like that.
I want to know how that was possible becaouse i'd like to see another picture like this now

A cached version of the image? Simply, QuickView shows you what's there. Not what was there. If you saw what you say it was a fluke. It's just not a feature.

I purchased a iBook G4 with OS 10.5.6.  I imported .mov files (shot in High Definition) -- I hear audio in playback but no picture.  What's wrong?

What version of iMovie is this? Where did this media come from? It's probably in a format or codec not supported by your computer.

Cannot find my "Pictures folder" in Finder and was using the "all Images" selection to fiddle with my pictures.  Now I think I may have screwed iPhoto up

    Hi jamesxio,
Do you still have the Pictures folder in your home folder? If not, create a new folder in your home folder and name it Pictures. Make sure the iPhoto Library folder is in the Pictures folder.
Now launch iPhoto with the Option key depressed until you get a message screen. Choose to open another library and navigate to and highlight the iPhoto Library folder. Click the Open button.
You didn't move anything around or rename anything in the iPhoto Library folder in the finder, did you?

You probably ran out of working RAM and not storage space.
Suggest you close Apps that you're not using; reboot ipad if necessary.

  • My music pictures are with the wrong songs, how do I fix that?

I plugged my iPhone and iPod into my computer to update my music and when I unplugged them all the music pictures were with the wrong songs. I've tried shutting them off and restarting them but it doesn't fix the problem, any ideas?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
      - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • How to point 'Pictures' folder in 'finder' sidebar to external (or other) HDD

I just installed an SSD and am running my OS from that. I want to point the various folders in the sidebar (Pictures, Movies, Documents, Music, Downloads etc) to the original HDD.
    Is this possible?
    Any help appriciated.
Sorry if this is elsewhere - I could not find it.

    1. WARNING: This procedure is for advanced users only. Some third-party software may not work as expected, or may not work at all, if the home folder is moved.
    2. Back up all data. Do not proceed unless you know how to undo these steps without having to ask for help. This website is not a support portal; it's a discussion forum. Don't assume that someone will help you if you get into trouble.
    3. If you do this wrong, you could end up with a bricked machine and no way to recover without losing data.
    4. Copy your home folder to the desired location, which must be on a volume of type "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" with file ownership enabled, as shown in the Finder Info dialog. Encryption is optional. The volume must be on a local storage device, not on the network, and it must be mounted automatically at startup — before any user logs in. A disk image will not work.
The name of your home folder is your short user name. Do not rename it. Do not copy the "Users" folder.
    5. Select
     ▹ System Preferences ▹ Users & Groups
Click the lock icon and authenticate. Right-click or control-click your name in the account list, and select Advanced options from the popup menu. In the sheet that opens, change the location of the home directory. Log out and log back in.
    6. Test. If you have problems, reverse the above steps. If you got this far, you should have no trouble doing that. If everything works as you expect, delete the original home folder.

  • IPhoto 6.01: lost links to pictures (thumbs fine) and forgets rotations too

    First problem is broken links.
Within my library some photos exhibit strange behaviour, this applies to some (not all) photos within one roll.
The thumbnails work, both in Library and in Filmstrip. However, when I double click on the image I get a grey background inside which is the dashed outline of a sqaure with an inverse '!' symbol in a grey circle.
The JPG files are where they should be, and can be previewed and opened within Finder.
The Permissions are fine, and set properly.
I have tried Command+Option Open iPhoto and rebuilt the iPhoto library to no avail.
Second problem (possibley related?) is that not only are rotation forgotten by the software but some are out of sync -- i.e. rotated to one point in thumbs, but rotated to different in the edit window.
Suggestions please to fix these two problems with iPhoto 6.0.1

Regarding the second problem, once the first is fixed you can try this:
1 - make a backup copy of your iPhoto Library folder (always when trying out fixes)
2 - move the Data folder to the desktop
3 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first two options regarding thumbnails.

  • Pictures folder in finder vs iphoto library

Is there a resource designed to help me navigate the difference between the pictures folder in the finder screen vs the iphoto library? I am having a hard time keeping track of where my pictures are being stored. I have tried dragging files from one file to the other, but then it claims that they are unreadable. Any ideas?
    Thanks,

Is there a resource designed to help me navigate the difference between the pictures folder in the finder screen vs the iphoto library?
    Yes, it's called iPhoto
I am having a hard time keeping track of where my pictures are being stored.
    You don't have to.
iPhoto is a database. The idea is that you do all your work in the iPhoto Window and leave iPhoto to manage those file in the iPhoto Library Folder. There are no user-serviceable parts in the iPhoto Library Folder and you are really best staying out of there. Put another way:
+It is strongly advised that you do not move, change or in anyway alter things in the iPhoto Library Folder as this can cause the application to fail and even lead to data loss+
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
    Finally, as an fyi:
A Note about the iPhoto Library Folder:
In this folder there are various files, which are the Library itself and some ancillary files. Then you have three folders
Originals are the photos as they were downloaded from your camera or scanner.
(ii) Modified contains edited pics, shots that you have cropped, rotated or changed in any way.
(iii) Data holds the thumbnails the the app needs to show you the photos in the iPhoto Window.

  • Where is the pictures folder in finder?

I have a macbook air OS X 10.9.5.  When I tried to scan a document the destination folder was Pictures but it was greyed out.  I then had to send the scan to iPhotos in order to send it on by email.
There isn't a Pictures folder when I look in Finder. Should there be?
Its a pain to send the scan by iPhotos because it inserted it into the document and only gave me a small text box to write all of the text of the email.

    Hello,
Maybe you've accidentally removed the folder from the sidebar.
If you press "Command + ," you'll get into the preferences of Finder.
Click the tab "Sidebar" and select "Pictures".
