Pictures acting odd

So for a little background:
While I was asleep my girlfriend turned on my MacBook to go on the internet.
She didn't realize that I have a startup password
So she clicked "shutdown" and left it alone
when I wake up the battery was almost dead, and the macbook was having a problem staring up again.
I plugged into an outlet, signed in, and noticed that my wallpaper was gone.
I went into the system preferences for the desktop and tried to restore the picture I had... however clicking the picture did nothing. I tried the default Apple pictures and they work just fine. However to use my own picture I must browse for it using "Choose Folder". When a picture is chosen this way it loses quite a bit resolution. What were once smooth round lines now look pixelated as if I was zooming in a gif
Also, Iphoto won't allow me to view my pictures either. when I open it up I can see all the thumbnail versions however clicking them only shows a large grey area with a question mark in it.
Can someone please help me?

It sounds to me like your girlfriend closed the screen before the machine was fully shutdown, this will definiately cause the flat battery issue. There are a few threads about this issue. What seems to happen is that if you close the screen before the machine is really shutdown, then it stops the shutdown process, and does not even go to sleep. Therefore the processor keeps running, the machine stays hot and the battery goes flat.
Now as to why you seem to have lost your photos in iPhoto, well this sounds like a corruption of your disk which may have hapened due to the wrong shutdown / close, but it is hard to say really.

Iphone acting odd

My son's phone is acting odd now. When I tried to update all apps on it, it keeps saying there is no space in storage and I need to take care of the storage. I deleted a bunch of apps and the music from what I downloaded onto my iphone and it still says the same thing. I don't understand what is going on with it. He said he went on some **** sites but I don't know if that is what is the problem that is causing this. Is there something I can do to fix this? Or a reason why I have to update all one by one instead of all at once?

Merge acting odd. Merges image in front of some and behind others.

I use the Merge with background function A LOT and have never had an issue... until today.
Suddenly, when I select Merge (or CTRL + M) the image I am trying to merge is only 'partially' merging. Oddly enough it is being placed in front of one image on the slide and behind another image on the slide. Super weird. I am expecting it to just place it in front of everything as it usually does. I am dumbfounded.
I have combed thru the forum for an answer but I cant find an answer.
NOTE: I do NOT have "Use Master Slide Background" selected (.... and never have had it selected as I dont work with Master slides). I have also closed and reopened CP6 and rebooted my computer.

I do not have Master Slide Objects On Top selected either.
For now I am going to leave the image in the timeline to cover the old image but I still just dont understand why/how Master slides would have anything to do with why trying to merge the image is acting so strange.
I continues to place the merged clipart between other images that are part of the original slide... like a deck of cards and placing the merged image between two other cards.
Lilybiri - Do you have any suggestions on what I might do with Master Slides to get the Merge to function?

I thought I had everything worked out, but am having the oddest problem lately. When I put the image together, things look great until 3/4 of the pieces are in place...then all of a sudden a portion of one picture will appear in a band in another picture). Here's what I've done:
I used ImageReady to divide the image (exported from the original footage via Quicktime in a variety of ways...interlaced and then deinterlaced in Photoshop...progressive...) into 25 pieces (5X5 grid). I imported the 25 pieces into Motion and changed the pixel aspect ratio to NTSC D1/DV (I also tried doing it w/Square pixels) and placed the pieces one by one into a standard NTSC DV Motion project. Problem is, as I said, out of the blue the image will shift.
I've tried all sorts of things and they all kind of work. If I change the alpha channel it will work...for a while. If I change the field order it will work...for a while. And when I say 'for a while' I mean it will look like it's all fixed...and then out of the blue WHAM! I'll adjust the settings of one of the pieces to something that has worked before and it will go crazy again.
Basically, the only way I've been able to get it to work is to change some of the pieces to Field Order lower (and change the Field Order of the project to "none") but not all of them. If I do it kind of randomly to pieces that are not working, it seems to be fine.
Any idea what is causing this???

The final image (and the project) are both 720X480. Same as the raw footage. (although....when I open the raw footage into Quicktime, it seems to be square pixels, as it is wider than the 720X480 movie that I'm linking to you here: I uploaded a .mov version of the Motion project, which just got done being processed/imported into DVDSP).

Here's the weird thing...it looked fine in Motion! I re-created it from scratch and it seemed to work fine. I exported via Quicktime the images (used Animation setting, as it seemed to give a clearer shot). I opened the images in Photoshop, reset the Pixel Aspect Ratio to .9 (DV), cut and pasted the image to a new Photoshop document/image (the NTSC DV Menu template), exported the image into ImageReady, sliced it into a 5X5 grid, Save Optimized it as png images, imported the images into Motion, set the Pixel Aspect Ratio to .9 again (for some reason ImageReady seems to have deleted that step), and re-created the project.
And it seemed to work. I didn't get any of the 'banding' or 'sending some of column A to column B' that I did when creating it before. Everything seemed to work (except for when I cut and pasted the background Replicator from the old project to the new to save time...then I got the weird effects...which vanished when I reverted to the saved older version and didn't occur again when I inserted the Replicator into the layer from scratch).
The field ratio of the images I kept at 'none.' the field ratio of the project is "lower" (I have played with other settings previously, and making them match didn't do anything...and since it was seeming to work this time, i didn't want to mess with anything that didn't seem broken). BIt depth is 8. Frame rate on the project is 29.97, and it reads 30 on the Media tab for the images (once again, since it appeared to be working...)
Just played it in Motion and it still seems to be working (plays very slowly but I got through the first series of images w/o problems).
Might try to export it from Motion in the morning (but importing the problem one into FCP showed the same problems, even before rendering).
But if you have any suggestions...

My MBP has been acting odd since installing N wireless update.

Since installing the N wireless protocol on my MBP my machine has been acting weird. It fails to see wireless networks, the system preferences fails to open at times. OSX freezes, Force quit doesn't actually quit the programs after they have frozen. Basically its so bad i am thinking about re-formatting my machine and starting again, (its only a week old)
Am I the only one who has this?

Well..that is a bummer....
I did notice something else, don't know if it makes sense or not, but if the mac crashes while connected to my Airport Express at home, the Airport Express stops responding and all of the clients that are connected to it stop getting access to the Internet until I unplug it and plug it back in.
When the issue first arose, I thought it was a problem with the AP express, but since it happens even more frequently when using other routers, I know that is not the issue. Besides, everything was fine until I installed the Wireless-N update. I wonder if there is any way to remove the update?
I'll keep playing with it, but hopefully they find a solution soon. Being that our problem is exactly the same, I would be surprised if no one else is having this issue as well.

Preview acting odd

Hello,
My preview application has been acting strangely for about two weeks. PDFs scroll very sluggishly and once they finally start moving they're out of focus for about 5-10 seconds. Before, it was like flipping through a paper, now it's frustrating and tedious. This is happening on documents that are less than a MB in size. Any suggestions?
I tried Adobe reader, but it's so much worse.

There is also a file com.apple.preview.bookmarks.plist, should I move that to the trash as well?If you have any bookmarks you will lose them and I doubt it will do any good.
Create a new account, name it "test" and see how your Preview works in that User acct? (That will tell if your problem is systemwide or limited to your User acct.) This account is just for test, do nothing further with it.
Open System Preferences >> Accounts >> "+" make it an admin account.
Let us know and we'll troubleshoot this further.

My ODD Acting Odd

Hello, I have a second generation MacBook Pro (Not the very latest LED one, but the one before) And recently My Optical Disk Drive has been acting funny, when I insert a disk, it starts to spin the disk, but then i hear a loud buzzing noise, the spinning stops, then starts and repeats. Every once in awhile it will get past this and read the disk, but whenever I try to burn a disk (Various media's used) it gives me this error message in Toast, "hardware error 0x03, 0x01" I think my optical disk drive is busted, but I wanted someone to confirm it, if I call up support and mail it in will they ship me the newest model or the same one I have now, and will it be refurbished or new?

They will repair and return that unit, not replace it.

T510 trackpad acting odd...

I've got a T510 and the trackpad does this strange thing where it's acting as if the button is depressed even when it's not. When you move the cursor around on the screen just by moving your finger, not touching any buttons, it will draw little boxes everywhere, as if youv'e got the button presed. Also, sometimes the left-click button does not select things as it should. The buttons don't appear to be broken at all, it's been well cared for. I'm pretty certain it isn't a software issue because I've done a complete Windows reinstall and it still does this...
Any ideas?

Maybe Windows picked up the wrong drivers? Try running a Linux Distro out of a CD or USB Drive, just to rule out any software problem

Safari acting odd, 70% of time, some page contents vanish when browsed over

Hi there,
& bear w/ me. It always hard to describe a problem when you've become confused, and run down lots of blind alleys.
Safari has been having increasing trouble opening pages, often -- but not always __ hanging in midload much longer then I'm used to.
Fearing a possible virus or such ( in my uninformed way ) I started a Norton AntiVirus scan of the HD. If there's a way to scan mail seperatety , I don't know it....perhaps that's the province of spam-filters ?
While this hours long scan has been running, I've gone ahead & tried some normal business. ( foolishly ? )
First on a Symantec page, then MySpace, moving the browser would cause all contents to "fold up" and dissappear ??! ( they were later seen to be fine )
Would that be due to having the scan running, or have I got some broken Safari on my hands ?

Yes my web-mail server does scan my emails for viruses, there was 1 cleaned email in my suspect folder just yesterday,which i deleted anyway, the best aspect of Earthlink, my ISP.
• On Console~ go to Applications -> Utilities, click & hold the mouse down on the Console App, drag it to the Dock, [make sure the Console remains in the Utilities folder as well] for easy access..This just makes an Icon for the dock the original should remain in it's respective location, storing any applications in folders other then where they belong causes problems,
such as they will not update when the os is updated.
Once you have the console in the Dock, open it.
Under the Console menu, "Preferences", set the console to bounce when an open log is written to.
Now dock the console using the yellow candy button,thus making it an open log
close: red button, yellow: dock [also called minimized], green minimize / maximize window size.
If Safari does this oddness, as before & you see the console bounce,
look to see what message is logged,
Note that there is a lot written to the log that maybe inconsequential to the problem, for instance these sort of messages...

It does sound as if the trial item you spoke of, Deja vu be best removed / it maybe the/ a culprit.

Slideshow acting odd

Hi,
when i run a slide show every other picture that is displayed is a blank white background, the photos are in the library as i can view them in the folders. then the white blank pages become more frequent, eventually iphoto crashes. Only occours running slide show.
Any ideas??

What do you mean "i can see them in the folders"? Is this when you poke through the iPhoto Library folder structure or are you referring to albums and folders within the iPhoto application? Are the photos visible in the main library view of iPhoto? You should probably rebuild your iPhoto Library.
For starters, with iPhoto closed, select the iPhoto Library in your Pictures folder and type Command+D. This will make a backup/duplicate of your library folder. It's just a precaution and you can delete it later. Then hold down the Command and Option keys while starting iPhoto. Select all rebuild options except the last one that recovers orphaned photos. Not sure what your machine specs are but this could take a while.
Once you are happy with the results you can delete the backup copy of your iPhoto Library folder.

Click wheel scroll acts oddly.

The scroll wheel on my iPod acts funny. Like, if you're scrolling through a long list and you're making lot's of spins, it just doesn't always register. It doesn't really have a very smooth scroll. I don't know how to describe it, but if you've experienced it, you know what I mean.
So has this happened to anyone? Or is this just something with my iPod?

Happened once when I first purchased it. Newbie glitch? Resetting the iPod fixed it. No problems since.

Active tab looks odd, and other buttons act odd, such as Gmail apps button. Mouseover reveals correct look.

Happens on all active Firefox tabs, and in various things in Gmail, like the scroll arrows for Hangout conversations are replaced with user profile photos. Just odd.
