Pictures and graphics in emails

When I drag a picture or graphic into an email, it is too large. I would like to make the size of either a picture or graphic smaller. How do I do that?

After attaching a picture or graphic to a message, at the bottom right of the message window with Tiger Mail is an Image Size selection. Actual is the default and you can select between Small, Medium or Large.
Smaller PDF file attachments (1-2 pages) also appear inline or viewed in place within the body of the message by default but do not use the Image Size selection with a PDF attachment.
Keep in mind all image/graphic attachments appear inline or viewed in place within the body of the message with the Mail.app by default which cannot be turned off.
Depending on the recipient's email client and available preference settings, such attachments may appear inline or viewed in place when the message is opened by the recipient (as with the Mail.app when receiving such attachments) or as attached files only which must be opened separately to view for which we have no control over.
You can also control-click on the viewed in place attachment and select View as Icon which does not affect the size of the attachment or how the attachment appears when the message is opened by the recipient - either inline or viewed in place or as an attached file only which must be opened separately.

I seem to have pixulated pictures and graphics on my iphone 3gs after the latest update

I am having an issue with a 3gs 32 gig iphone. I have blurry or pixulated pictures and graphics. Not on everything. The pictures in my photos file are ok. Games are ok. The Map App that comes with it, can barely read the streets. Seemed to have happened after the latest update which is 4.3.3. Any ideas? Thanks

I work with students developing HTML/CSS pages. Having trouble displaying pictures and graphics offline in web pages. IE displays student graphics, but Firefox will not. Help?

Students create web pages offline with normal C:/ drive designations. After they have all coding issues worked out, the server address is added prior to uploading code. Graphics are placed in an image folder and code is managed in a pages folder. All located on C:/ drive. However, FireFox will not display pictures. IE will display. Suspect I need to change settings, but don't know what or where.

You not are using the latest Spry files
The latest version of the Adobe Spry Framework is 1.6.1, this is the same version that ships with Dreamweaver CS4. If you use Dreamweaver CS3 (uses Spry 1.4), its wise to upgrade your files to the latest version. This can easily be done using the Spry Updater that can be found here.
If you replace

you will notice that it works as it should.

Edit pictures and graphics in a pdf document

I have many pdf documents that need new and updated logos (jpg images). How do I delete the old logos and replace them with the new one? I have Office 2010 and Acrob V10.1.4 but cannot find how to edit pictures.

If you only have a few to change, use the information on Deepak's link. It tells you how to use the Edit Object tool.
If you need to change a lot of them, you should really work on the original files - PDFs are not designed to be edited very easily. It's a simpler process in Acrobat XI but you still need to change each image by hand, one at a time.
Bill suggests exporting to Word (File > Save As > Microsoft Word) - that will give you editable content but will remove anything interactive about the PDF file and tends to mess about with formatting. It's very much a last resort option.

Rotating Pictures & Video Sent Through Email

I have taken pictures and video holding my iPhone 4 in a portrait mode (not landscape), but when I email the video or pictures via iPhone the pictures and video are sideways (rotated on its side 90 degrees) to the person receiving the videos and pictures. How do I keep the pictures and video from rotating 90 degrees?

I called Apple about this problem, and they said there is a software glitch and some phones were rotating pictures and videos when emailing from iPhone 4. But there wasn't enough compliants about it right now to generate a quick fix for it and it should be corrected in a future software update.
I suppose it is something similar to the glitch with the sensor when holding the phone up to your ear when talking--some phones have the problem and some don't. Mine doesn't have this sensor problem as the screen goes dark when I am on a phone call and hold the phone to my ear.
I hope the fix comes soon. Does anyone know when they expect the new software update to be released?

I received pictures in a dozen emails and saved each picture into one file in .pages. I did not import the photos before doing this and now iPhoto won't recognize the pictures because they are in a .pages file. How do I get the pics to iPhoto?

I received a dozen pictures in a few emails and I saved them all into one file in pages. I just copied and pasted. I do not have the originals any longer. Iphoto will not permit me to import the pictures as it does not recognize a .pages file, nor can I simply click and drag from the pages document to iphoto nor from pages to the desktop to iphoto. How can I save each picture I guess back into a jpeg and then import them into iphoto or have i lost them to a pages document forever? This is urgent as I need the pictures made into a book on iphoto for work by Friday!!! Please advise! Thank you.

Locate the Pages document wherever it's located on your computer and click once on it to highlight it.
Go to File > Duplicate to make a backup copy of the file.
Click once again on the file to highlight it.
Go to File > Get Info
In the "Name & Extension" category remove the ".pages" extension and put in ".zip".
Close the info window and double-click the now renamed pages file (zip file now).It will decompress into a folder which contains all the base components including all the images you added. These can be dragged onto the iPhoto icon to import them.

You need to use the old ID and password to delete the iCloud account. After you delete the old account, you can sign in with the new ID in iCloud.

Pictures embedded in an email are not being displayed, hotmail and yahoo under FireFox of problem. Embedded pictures do appear with Explorer 10.

i notice the following
i cant attached pictures into an email or onto a text message
I tried selecting a picture from text message and from an email by clicking insert , it doesn't work
I tried by the camera rolls to select them and add them to an email, it doesnt work either

The only solution I've seen that seems to consistently work is the one posted by Brackers28 here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/23020591#23020591. This only works if you still have access to your old email account. If you don't, you'll have to have Apple help you reset the password for your old account so you can turn off Find My iPhone.

My instructions are specific to signatures. If you know that it's not a signature then they won't make any difference. Thomas A Reed has suggested another explanation. Do you know that this picture is going out with your e-mails? Have you seen an e-mail you sent on a recipients computer? Try setting up a googlemail or yahoo account and send an email to it. Does the picture arrive in the e-mail?

The standard procedure with these types of isues is a PRAM reset.
Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.

Creating script to take picture and email it

I recently read an article about someone who created an automator script that would take a picture using a MacBook iSight camera and email it each time the MacBook awoke from sleep. Several laptops have been stolen from my workplace and I thought this would be a great way of figuring out the thief were my laptop ever stolen.
When I looked at the script, I noticed that it opens up PhotoBooth and Mail so that the user in front of the computer would see that their picture was being taken and that an email message was sent.
In the name of stealthness, I was hoping to duplicate this process in a unix script. I have a few pieces figured out, but I need some guidance on other issues.
What I know:
1. How to use sleepwatcher to call a unix script upon the MacBook waking.
2. How to take a stealth image using the commandline command "camcapture".
What I would like to know
1. What unix command could I use to check to see if the MacBook has a viable internet connection?
2. If there is a viable connection, send an email with the image taken to a particular email address and with a particular subjectline.
3. If there is not a viable internet connection, save the email and check for a viable internet connection each 5 minutes (or so) and send the email as soon as an internet connection is achieved.

   I'm sorry for being absent for a while but in your case that seems to have been a good idea. I think you deserve the star more than I because you seemed to have worked it all out. Of course I couldn't tell you what server your e-mail account uses but it doesn't matter that much in the ping statement. If you can ping mail.yahoo.com, I'm sure that would indicate that you have an internet connection that would allow you to send mail to a yahoo account. I see your point about e-mail being the best solution in case you don't have a reliable server of your own. Of course you can get around the dynamic IP address the way I do, with DynDNS.org. They allow you to change your DNS listing programmatically and you do that at boot. Of course that wouldn't allow you to reliably scp to that machine unless it's always up.
   Your idea of testing the return value of ping command will work in principle. I tested it and ping returns an error if either the lookup fails or the ping times out. I've never used the syntax you did in the if clause. What shell are you using? In a Bourne-type shell, you shouldn't need the parentheses. You could use something like:

The redirection avoids cluttering the output of your script with the ping output.

   Thanks for the link to the mail_files script!! That is really impressive! Naturally I saved it. The link you posted is broken at the moment but it's probably one of those sites that throttle traffic by shutting it down for a while when it's "overused". Maybe you've made him popular. Anyway, I got a version of the same script elsewhere but mine says that the uuencoding is untested. Yours doesn't say that, does it? Have you tested that with your version?
   Dave's script still uses Perl to do base64 encoding. It should still be possible to do this in Perl and there are advantages to letting library code handle certain tasks. That way, if a protocol changes someone will likely upgrade the library for you. I think that on another thread you asked about how to add an attachment in the code that we were discussing on that other thread. However, I thought you said that you had Perl code to do that. I was just suggesting that you put the two together.
