Pictures and Questions on new iMac

I got some pictures of the new imac from the web and seems like the back cover is not removable...
is this correct?

Sorry, but there is a very glaring lack in this machine and that is the ability to install a Firewire 800 card. For me this is a deal-breaker because I have some drives here that have very complex video that can only be edited with FW800. Even my little Powerbook has FW800 so I can't understand why this glaring lack! And why is there absolutely no way to upgrade? Makes no sense to me unless Apple is abandoning FW800 completely (no surprises here since they really didn't support it much at all).
G5 Powermac is the only upgrade choice now ($$$$$$).

ok, so i bought a imac 27 about 4 months ago, and now they release a new one!  ****... So my question is, should I sell this one (which by the way is the i5 2.8 with 1 gb 5750 and 4gb ram) and buy the new imac 27 i5,or keep the one i have and buy more ram. I mostly use my computer for photoshop cs5 and illustrator cs5 for graphics out put as well as surfing the web and music.
Please give me you thoughts on what I should do!!  Thanks  lot!

The new iMac is about 25% or so faster than your current iMac(comparable model would be the 3.1ghz version). There are a couple of things that you will benefit from such as the dual Thunderbolt/Mini Display ports/ which may help with multitasking. The video card in the new iMac again the comparable model being the 3.1ghz is a lotttttttt better than the current one that you have. So thinking of the long run those few things may be beneficial for you to upgrade(but it depends on what is important to you).
I had the 2.93ghz i7 version that I just bought in March this year and I turned around and sold it about a week before the new iMac's were announced. I got about $1600 for it, yeah I took a loss but to me it was worth it because my new iMac performs that much better. Now keep in mind I went from i7 to i7...3.4ghz i7 with the 2gb video card. Now I have dual thuderbolt/mini display ports. I have noticed significant gains in my video editing and also in my gaming. So to me it was definitely worth the upgrade!
One last thing, I would not have sold my 2.93 i7 and then bought the 3.1ghz i5, the big reason is because HT(hyper threading), it's only on the i7 model(3.4ghz)... If you take a look at some of the bench marks on engadget, maclife, macrumors, macworld, ****Barefeats.com(they really get into benchmarking)*** you will see charts that will help you make a better decision.
In closing I would say look into it, if you can get a good price out of your current iMac to put toward a new iMac then do it. Like others have mentioned to you, tech changes and Apple will change the tech in these machines next year or do a speed bump later this year or so. One last thing if you go from the 2.8 i5 up to the 3.4 i7, you would definitely see the difference (HT is a must especially for programs that utilize it. You can go to my youtube channel(mob1278) and take a look at my geekbench results.... my 2.93 i7 scored around 10500-11000(8gb ram)...my 3.4 i7 scores from 12700-13000 with 4gb ram....so yeah as you can see big difference. Basically the 3.4 i7 would perform similar or just under a 2.4ghz 8core 2010 Mac Pro which runs you about $3500 with no monitor.... it's your money spend it how you want....and Lion is only going to push it even more when it is released!

  • Attempts at installing Lightroom and Cs5 on new iMac

I just purchased and received a new iMac.  I have used one for a few years and had purchased Lightroom 3 and Cs5 for it.  Now that I have a new computer, I would like to use both programs with it.  But when I insert the cd's to install, nothing happens.  Usually, an installation window appears to step me through the process.  I tried a Mac software (iWork) that I had used with my other computer and did not have any problems so it's not the computer.  I am hoping that I can use these two programs with the new computer, especially since I have several hundred dollars invested in both.  Can anyone tell me how to solve this issue?  Thanks!

Does your DVD for the installation of the Adobe software works on the Different computer ?
We need what exactly happen when you insert the DVD in your iMac, does it eject out , stays there but you can hear it reading.

  • My online purchase of IMac is scheduled for delivery to apple store for pickup tomorrow .  Do I need an appt . on the day of pick up to bring in my old desk top computer to transfer and set up new IMac?

My online purchase of new 21.5 IMac is scheduled for delivery to apple store for pickup tomorrow .  I have purchased Apple one to one care. Do I need to schedule an appointment with apple genius on the day of pick up to bring in my old desk top computer to transfer and set up new IMac?

    Usually I would think so.
Note, if your old Mac or any of your old applications are pre-2006, see this tip.
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2295
Otherwise the transfer may not be as smooth as you desire.

iTunes Store- Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer.http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1848
Or you can use a third-party utility such as Phone to Mac - Pod to Mac.

  • I need to get my iPhoto library off my external hard drive and onto my new Imac

I  just purchase a new iMac.  I've been trying to get my old iPhoto library onto my new iMac from my old iMac.  I have the tower and when we tried to connect the new computer with the tower back up of course it did not work so I've had to transfer everything manually.  The latest thing I'm working on is my iPhoto library with over 22,000 pictures.  How can do this without losing the quality of my pictures.  I can open them through my external hard drive on iPhoto, but I really want them on the actual computer.  I've read several places that importing my iPhoto library would be a mess and I don't want that either.  HELP.  Everyone says it's a mess but I don't see any solutions.

If you have an iPhoto Library on your new Mac and it contains photos you want to keep then rename it before you copy the library from your old Mac.

  • Key board question on new Imac 24 ?

    quick question,
    about my new Imac keyboard,
my cap light on my keyboard turns off shortly after pressed by itself?
    is this normal??

I THINK you might find that it's just the angle you're looking at it. The light seems to be quite a way beneath the actual key, and shines up through a hole - rather than there being an actual LED in the key itself. I thought mine was brighter when pressed down, but it's just that it's nearer the light source.
Try looking directly down onto it - bet you find it is on.

  • Issues to see videos, pictures and pay bills on iMac

I am happy with my new iMac.   I regret waiting all this time to get one.    Anyway, my only situation so far, is videos.  With Windows I normally see videos with no issues and now with iMac I can't get them to work.  What do I have to do?  For example, I usually see the NBC10.com weather videos and now it doesn't work.  Do I need some kind of app or do I need to change computer settings to be able to see them?  Another weird thing, I did try to pay some bills online and I got this message about cookies not being set up.  I decided to use my old computer to submit the payments and no issues at all.  I don't want to setup something in my iMac that is not needed or might be harmful to the operating system.  The same thing with some of my pictures.  Only a few of them I can't get to see them.  It shows a format that is not supported therefore I can't see a preview or open them at all.  My situation probably seems stupid but I am a rockie with iMac.   Any info or advised will be greatly appreciated.

I think you need to install the Adobe flash internet plugin.  Go through here to download it and then install it.
As for cookies, you probably need to allow them in the browser you are using for sites that insist on them.  Look through your browser's prferences.  For Safari look at its security preferences.  For Firefox it is in its Privacy preferences.
Don't you have that same option in windows browsers?
Not sure what to say about the pictures.  Maybe they are compressed and need to be expaned.  Or maybe they are indeed in some windows format the mac can't recognize.

  • Applecare question concerning new IMac

I have had my old IMac for about 18 months and purchased Applecare when I bought the system. I have had minor issues throughout the 18 months but nothing major, mostly stemming from overheating. Recently my hard drive crashed and upon turning it into the Apple Store, they noticed the motherboard was having issues as well, so they decided to offer me a 2013 model IMac which will be available for me this week. My question is, how would Apple Care work? Is my old Apple Care null and voided or will it carry over to the new one I am receiving? Also, even though I am getting the system for free, can I purchase Apple Care for the new IMac? Thanks!

Inside that loop you create a new LineReader object. You don't assign
its reference to anything, so there are no references to it. This means
that garbage collection may dispose of it at any time.
Note that this does not mean that garbage collection will ever run, or
that if it does run it will choose to dispose of that object. But that
is not your problem to worry about. If there is a choice between
disposing of that object and running out of memory, the garbage
collector will definitely dispose of the object.

  • Syncing iphone and ipod to new imac

I have a new imac (bought yesterday) and when i hookup my ipod and iphone it tells me that it will erase the device and load my music off the imac. No music on the imac yet! What am I doing wrong

You need to transfer your iTunes library from the computer that you were syncing your iPod and iPhone with to your iMac, along with all other important data on your old computer that you will need or want to access on your new iMac, such as photos, documents, etc., etc.
In regards to iTunes content, an iPhone cab be synced with a single iTunes library on computer only, and the same for photos transferred to an iPhone - from one computer only. When doing this with another computer, all iTunes content and photos transferred from a different computer will be erased from the iPhone first.

  • Premiere Pro CC 2014 playback freezing and crashing with new iMac i7

Using Premiere Pro CC 2014 and having constant playback freezing and software crashes on a brand new iMac i7.
    Here are the specs:
    iMac i7 4.0GHz 5k Retina
    32 GB Ram
    AMD Radeon R9 M295X 4GB graphics card
    512GB Solid State Drive
I was on chat yesterday with an Adobe tech. Although playback/render settings show the OpenCL option to utilize the AMD graphics card for processing, I was advised to switch to "Software Only" as that card is not supported yet. I had to re-render my 45 minute documentary (which doesn't appear to be any faster than it was on my old 2011 iMac by the way) and it still has the same issues.
So frustrating? Anyone else experiencing this? Any advice? I hope I didn't just buy this "super machine" in vein.
    Thanks,
    Jason

    Hi All,
Taking some tips from Kevin Monahan. If you haven't already gone through this list please do so.
Sign out from Creative Cloud, restart Premiere Pro, then sign in
    Update any GPU drivers
    Trash preferences
Ensure Adobe preference files are set to read/write
    Delete media cache
    Remove plug-ins
If you have AMD GPUs, make sure CUDA is not installed
    Repair permissions
In Sequence Settings > Video Previews, change the codec to one that matches your footage
    Disconnect any third party hardware
If you have a CUDA GPU, ensure that the Mercury Playback Engine is set to CUDA, not OpenCL
    Disable App Nap
    Reboot

  • Synching iPhone and iPad with new iMac - former pc user

I'm trying to determine to most efficient way to set up iTunes and synching of my iPhone 4 and iPad on my new iMac. I am finally moving away from using a pc and am facing the issue of trying to preserve all the content on my devices as I set up the iMac. I'm ditching the old oc iTunes library. The iMac will br the primary (and only) iTunes library going forward.
I realize I'll need to manually transfer mp3 files from the pc to the iMac (those ripped from CDs and not purchased on iTunes) and re-establish the library. But how do I avoid losing all the aps and music I purchased on my old pc as I set up the iMac iTunes?
I'm also interested in saving the contacts I've built on my iPhone - using that as the basis for my iMac contacts.
I have no intention of using the pc again -- fully realize you cannot synch to two iTunes libraries.
Any suggestions on how to begin to minimize hassle and minimize any file loss is much appreciated!

Should try by copying the itunes folder from your pc to your iMac. That should work.

  • Transferring Data form both PC and mac to new iMac G5

Saturday I can go and collect my brand new iMac G5.
My father can get his as well.
But as I used to work (at home) on a PC. I'm looking for a fast (and easy) way to transfer my data to my new iMac.
3 different computers are in use.
    My iBook G4 at work.
My PC (windows 2000, with ethernet card and firewire-ports).
My dads old PC (windows 95, no ethernet card and no CD-RW-drive)
    How should I handle this?
I was hoping to make a network connection with both Ibook and PC to my new mac. Do I need a cross cable for the connection Imac - PC? Or will a normal ethernetcable do the trick? Or should I even use a router?
Is firewire an option for the PC as well or will this give problems?
And how should I make my PC recognize the mac or vice versa?
And any suggestions concerning the old PC without network-card?
Perhaps placing the harddrive in my PC with networkcard? I don't think there is place left in the oldest PC to install a network card.

    2. the windows 95 without network? The computer has 2
USB ports, but if I'm not mistaken windows 95 doesn't
support USB, so a memory stick isn't an option.
Is there perhaps a possibility to create a network
over parallel or serial ports?? Bit like over
    firewire, but slower?
In theory you can use the serial port, but this would be impractical.
I would suggest buying a cheap ethernet card ($10) and network it.
You could remove the drive from the Windows95 PC and install it on the newer PC.
