Pictures are gone, only thumbnails now.

I connected my iPhone to a laptop with Ubuntu. I am only able to see thumbnails of my pictures. When I click on the thumbnail it goes white. How do I get my pictures?

I'd rather you be the lead sled dog in the quest for a custom avatar.
I can barely keep my Jive profile operational - nevermind trying to help solve a problem before an elite squad member jumps in & solves the problem before I can finish typing another post destined for the trash. What do they put in the WC anyway?
Remember the Stooges episode when Curley went to deliver a large block of ice to a mansion using an ice truck & large ice tongs? By the time he hustled up one set of stairs after another, he got up to the door & rang the bell.
When the customer opened the door, Curley held up the tongs with a tiny ice cube for delivery.

You should be importing pics to your computer regularly as you would with any digital camera.  Nothing should only be on your iphone.  You should keep everything on your computer.
If you have failed to do this, then they are gone.
You can try restoring from backup.

  • I had Iphoto 08 and now is gone, I have under applications and is not there. Also most of the pictures are gone. Can you easily delete the application?

    Obviously you can.
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.

  • Got a new lap top my husband wanted to help me by downloading itunes on it I have not used icloud but do have it on my phone When he pugged it in it asked if he wanted to backup he said yes Then reset my phone now all my pictures are gone please help

I got a new lap top and my husband thought it would be a good idea to help me by downloading itunes on it. Well Not so much...   I have not used icloud but do have it on my phone and other items. When he pugged my phone in to my laptop it asked if he wanted to backup he said yes. Then it reset my phone and now all my pictures are gone please help

If your phone was backed up to your computer, the backup would contain your camera roll photos (and videos).  Restoring to this backup would recover them.  However, if it was backed up a second time after losing them, this would overwrite the backup containing the data and your photos would be lost.
You can try restoring to your backup, but before doing so go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and check "Prevent...from syncing automatically".  This will prevent the phone from automatically syncing and backing up when you connect it to your computer, thereby overwriting the backup you want to restore to.  After doing this, open iTunes on your computer and connect your phone, then right-click on the name of your phone on the left side of iTunes and choose Restore from Backup.  (If you have iTunes 11 first go to View>Show Sidebar.)
Again this might work, as long as the phone was only backed up and then not subsequently backed up again after the photos were lost.

This is called "stealing". You do not have the legal right to give her the music you have in your iTunes library unless you are the copyright holder.
when syncing it it said she had to update her phone software first
That's not quite what it said.  Someone should have paid more attention to the great big warning about the possibility of losing data if the phone wasn't backed up.
We cannot find her new photos. Please help and there was 100 new pics. Is there any way we can get them back. I already have the program Asoftech - but it doesnt seem to register the iphone only C and D drive. Please help!
It restored the backup that was made on your computer 6 months ago, which did not contain those photos. You're wasting your time trying to find them on the phone. They don't exist.
Hopefully, your friend syncs her phone to her own computer on a regular basis. She needs to plug her phone into her computer and restore it from her last backup. That will restore it to the state it was in when the backup was made.
She also needs to get in the habit of extracting the photos on a regular basis, like she would from any other digital camera.

  • I just upgraded to the iOS 5 and icloud, but now all my pictures are gone! How do I get them back?

I have an iphone and just upgraded to the iOS 5 and icloud, but now all my pictures are gone! How do I get them back?? It's weird because it said with the upgrade your photos would be kept, but apps would be erased, yet my apps synced over and not my pictures...

I have EXACTLY the same issue.  I would appreciate the response also.  Was not prepared for this.

  • I updatediPhoto today, and now all my pictures are gone

I updatediPhoto today, it was trying to convert my old iTunes Library(2), it was about 25% done, and then it just disappeared. I cant find the old Library (iPhotolibrary2) anywhere.  It seems it got thru the conversion partially, and now all my pictures are gone. I can find iPhoto Library, but not iPhotoLibrary2, which has all my photos on it

Are you confusing iPhoto and iTunes on there?
Easiest solution: restore from the back up you made prior to upgrading.

  • Pictures are gone after iOS 8 update

After the iOS 8 update, I went to my picture gallery and all but 43 of my pictures are gone. I've gone to Photos --> Collections and still, only those 43 images are there. Where did my pictures go and how do I get them back?

You should be storing everything on your computer.  Just sync them to the iPhone.
Did you update without making sure that you had imported everything to your computer?

    Guitar21,
your MacBook Pro has booted into its Recovery mode. From the OS X Utilities menu, select Disk Utility. On the left-hand side of the Disk Utility window, select your internal disk’s boot partition (typically called “Macintosh HD”). On the right-hand side, press the Verify Disk button if it’s not greyed out; if it is greyed out, or if it reports that errors were found, press the Repair Disk button. Once the verification/repair is completed, exit Disk Utility and select Restart from the Apple menu to restart in normal mode. Does it get to the login screen now?

  • If I did the IOS 8 update and didn't back my phone up before the update, does that mean all of my pictures are gone?

If I did the IOS 8 update and didn't back my phone up before the update, does that mean all of my pictures are gone? While I was doing the update it told me to plug my phone into iTunes. I did so and then it said my phone needed to be "restored" but it said I was going to get my pictures, messages, music and contacts back later on. Now being one day later I did not get any of that back.

If you don't have a backup then you can't get the data back.
It's not typical for an update to require a restore, but for a handful of people the update gets interrupted, and this happens.

  • After upgrading to Mountain Lion, all my pictures are gone from iPhoto.  What happened?

This is very upsetting.  ALL my pictures are gone from iPhoto.  What happened, and how can I get them back?

Look in your user folder/Pictures. Is the Library there?
    Try rebuilding the library.

  • Emergency! Please Help. I have an iPhone 4 with all my pictures from the vacation on it and I plugged into my computer and it sync'ed to my ipod.  all of my pictures are gone.  How do I get my pictures back?

Emergency! Please Help. I have an iPhone 4 with all my pictures from the vacation on it and I plugged into my computer and it sync'ed to my ipod.  all of my pictures are gone.  How do I get my pictures back?

If all you did was sync your phone, and if you haven't synced again since this happened, you can restore your phone from the backup that was created at the beginning of the sync process (camera roll photos are included in the backup).  If you have synced again since this happened this backup has already been overwritten and your photos are lost.  Also, if you restored your phone from the backup of your iPod, rather than just synced, then your  photos are lost too.
If you have an intact backup that contains these photos, do the following:
Without connecting your phone, open iTunes on your computer and go to Preferences.  On the Devices tab check "Prevent...from syncing automatically".
Connect your phone to your computer, right-click on the name of your phone when it appears in iTunes on the left sidebar and select Restore from Backup, choose your most recent backup to restore from.
When complete, you can go back to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and re-enable automatic syncing.
