Pictures are Missing after Leopard Install

I installed Leopard and received the same blue screen password issue that everybody is discussing here. I called Apple support and was told to do an archive and reload Leopard. Here lies the issue: When I went back in most everything was there under a "Previous Systems" file. However, my pictures were GONE!! All my family memories... gone. The only thing it brought over was my Photobooth pictures. My wife is devastated and mortified. Most of my pictures were backed up, but there were a few very important ones that are gone.
I know there has to be someway to retrieve them or get them back. They must be somewhere on my HD where I can find them. I am begging anyone to help me. I was able to get some off my iPod using a third party SW program, but the quality of the pictures is not very good.

If you intend to make a recovery on the drive, stop using it.
If the files were deleted, you overwrite them with each keystroke.
If they are simply misplaced, which may be the case, you will have to perform a detailed search for them, using the names of the files or at least part of the name.
Once you find one, they will probably be all together in the same folder.
It could simpy be the folder was misnamed.
If you cannot locate them with Finder or SpotLight, then you will have to use the terminal mode to search each and every nook and cranny on your HD.
The command would be something like
find / -name \*.jpg -print
where *.jpg would be the filename with a wildcard. If they were gifs then use *.gif
The \ tells the system to treat the * as a wildcard.
Be prepared for a long search with a lot of things showing up.
You can also use
find / -name \guess -print
where guess is any part of the file name you can recall.
Good searching.

  • Address Book Addresses Missing After Leopard Install

I just did an archive install of Leopard and discovered that my contacts in Address Book have been reduced to a short list -- the majority are missing! I have tried to restore from Apple's Backup but am still getting the same short list. I know the addresses existed before I did the install because I recently sent out a mass E-mail to update everyone with a new E-mail and used it for Christmas mailings.
Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance!
UPDATE: After hours of searching this forum and the internet, I found this. I haven't tried it yet (fingers crossed) ... See post at: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5728834

  • Hard Drive GB missing after Leopard install...

I have searched and do realize that many have experienced this issue... however, after attempting the posted resolutions some have recommended, I'm still at a MAJOR loss... I just can't seem to locate this missing HD space.
In short, I have a new MBP with 100GB of HD space... I have a medium sized iTunes library with a Music library of about 30GB - my Applications folder is only 7.2GB and my desktop is about 2GB.. that is only totaling about 40GB of space... yet my Finder is showing I only have 20GB remaining -
This about a 40GB difference... pls assist here... thx

First of all - your drive is advertised as 100GB - but in truth your Mac sees it as 93GB. (Marketers don't use the 1024 type of number).
Second, Leopard - with no other files - requires 13GB to install. I think this does not include the optional development tools. Tiger only required 3GB (if I recall correctly).
Third, your desktop and your applications folder and your music - don't encompass your entire home folder - it also include your Library too (plus much more).
For an better number - check the size of your entire home folder.
On my system - I have 27GB outside my /Users folder.
    Estimating your total as 27GB + 30GB + 9GB = 63GB of 93GB leaving 30
but only a full scan can verify the math.

  • Photos from Nikon D200 camera are white  after Leopard install

Backed up entire hard drive and did an upgrade install of Leopard. Photos from iphone and point and shoots are all fine but the shots I need from my Nikon D200 are dysfunctional, both on my G5's hard drive and my external hard drive.
As I am scrolling through my iphoto library, I see the photos from my D200 for a second, then they all change to a white square/rectangle. I checked info on these squares and the info is intact. I double clicked some of the white squares to bring them into the iphoto work space and while they would not open, the thumbnails of all the photos showed up in the viewing area above the work space. I tried to drag some of the thumbnails into Photoshop as I normally would to work on them and I get a white circle with a slash through it and the photo does not open in Photoshop.
I downloaded the free version of iplm and could not find a repair photo feature so I tried "rebuild library". No change and the app told me that over 2,000 photos were unable to be rebuilt and to check utilities/console to learn which ones. I did and saw nothing about photos.
I am working on the option/command open iphoto solution right now but I am a graphic designer with a deadline in less than 24 hours which requires one of the "lost" pix. I have two other deadlines in the same time frame and I am freaked. Anyone with any hope, please help.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Select one of the blank squares in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File' (or 'Show Original File' if it's availabe.) A Finder window will open. It should have the file selected. Does it?
I tried to drag some of the thumbnails into Photoshop as I normally would to work on them and I get a white circle with a slash through it and the photo does not open in Photoshop.
    Two things
    Download BatchMod from
    http://macchampion.com/arbysoft/
And apply it to the iPhoto Library Folder using the settings found here:
    http://homepage.mac.com/toad.hall/.Pictures/Forum/BatChmod.png
(Credit to Old Toad for this one).
    also:
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.

  • Help! My pictures are missing after my battery died during an upload!

Help! My mac battery died while uploading pics from my iphone. When I rebooted the computer and opened Iphoto, all of my albums were there with what I assume to be the correct number of photos but in their place was the same photo over and over where the thumbnail should be. If I click on the photo, the correct one shows up. I saw a video on you tube that said to hit alt command while opening Iphoto to rebuild the database, but it says to back up the photos first. 1. I'm scared to do anything at this point. Any suggestions welcome please! This is the past 6 years of my life...marriage, house, baby!!

Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - from the resulting first aid window rebud thumbnails, if still needed  repair permissions and if necessary rebuild your database

  • Help- After upgrading to Mountain Lion 10.8.4 all of my default user pictures are missing

    Hello,
After ugrading to Mountain LIon 10.8.4 on my 2010 1.4 GHz Macbook air and now all of my default user pictures are missing.
I found a similar situation on the net in which the guy says to do this: "logged in as root and trashed the old user icon images file the copied the folder froma ML factory disk image".  I have no idea what any of that means or if is for real as an answer or just a way to screw up my computer even more. I need help, and really basic simple instructions like your talking to some one who barely know how to turn on a computer.  I would be really grateful to anyone who will help me. Thank you for your time.

I found a simple solution that worked on my Macbook Air running 10.8.4 which was missing all the User pictures when I tried to access them as the computer administrator even through they wer all there in the User Pictures folder in the Library.
I went into the Library Folder and trashed the "User Pictures" Folder.
I then copied the User Pictures folder from my Macbook Pro (also running 10.8.4) that did not have this issue and installed in on the Macbook Air in place of the User Pictures folder I had trashed.    Then it all worked fine.

  • I installed PS CS 6 and now all my iPhoto 11 pictures are missing.

I installed PS CS 6 last night and now all my iPhoto 11 pictures are missing from the library. I had 45,000 plus pictures and some of them were not backed up. I have tried holding the command and alt keys down while starting iPhoto several times but no luck. Does anyone have any idea how I can recover these photos?

Don't see how installing CS 6 could do this.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • After Leopard install I have 2 volumes of equal size

After Leopard install I have 2 volumes of equal size. One has Leopard and the other has Tiger. How can I delete, remove, or get rid of the volume with Tiger on it? As I have upgraded to Leopard how can tell which one I have, i.e., 10.5 or 10.5.X?
    Thanks for your help.

For some reason the Leopard installer kept your old Tiger partition instead of deleting it. It's probably your fault, but that doesn't matter...
Before you do this, back up any data you still want from the Tiger partition. Also rename it to something that will differentiate it from your other volume(s?). Also back up your Leopard partition before any of this.
Take your Leopard install disk, pop it in, reboot while holding C (or just click Install Leopard), choose a language, then from the menubar click Utilities, then Disk Utility. Once there, click your hard drive (not your Leopard or Tiger volumes) in the sidebar, go to the Partition tab on the right, click your Tiger volume's square (NOT YOUR LEOPARD VOLUME!!!), click the minus sign under that little graph, and click Partition. Then once that's done, drag the little resize line thingy on the bottom-left of your Leopard volume's square so that it fills up the entire area there.
If you can't make the Leopard volume take up the entire drive, you'll have to wipe the entire hard drive and restore from a backup. Yes, you will have to unless you're okay with having less space then you can. (Why can't GParted resize HFS+?!?! WHY?!!?!?!!??!)

  • Text messages and phone calls from March 2012 to date are missing after activating iphone5

text messages and phone calls from March 2012 to date are missing after activating iphone5. I backed up my 4 before activating my 5. Can i retrieve them somehow?

i would not want to bet on nokia ever releasing a patch or update in the software to allow this function on this particular phone.
if you look at nokia phones over the years, they have added functionality like this across a wide range all at once, take for example timed profiles on symbian phones. these have only just been phased in.
i do not think it is a development cop out, more along the lines that nokia is a huge company and as such would have a huge effor in market research. if they didnt pick this out through their market researc, why spend the money adding it?
the comment on annoyance is entirely personal to me, as it is important to you - you may want to consider moving to a symbian (series 60) based handset as these give you a lot of expansion for this sort of need.

  • When I open iMovie, it says that quick time componets are missing, "Please re-install"...When I do that it says that ONLY 9 is supported and I have to have that first. What gives with that?

When I open iMovie, it says that quick time componets are missing, "Please re-install"...When I do that it says that ONLY 9 is supported and I have to have that first. What gives with that?

What version of iPhoto are you using?
This is the the first time I have ever launched it.
Does that mean there are no photos in the library? If so move it to the Trash bin in the Dock and launch iPhoto again.
If there are photos in the library do the following:
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button,
and select the library you want to add from those in the selection window.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note 1: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.
Note 2:  Your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

I am using Adobe Photoshop Elements 11, I just transferred all of my data from an old computer to a new computer, all my pictures and documents transferred fine but, my albums are missing and the date and time that is usually under the picture are missing.. How do I get them back?

    Hi,
Which operating system are you running on?
The date & Time can be displayed by going to the View menu and checking Details - also File Names if you want them displayed.
The Album information is saved within the catalog so it sounds as though you didn't do a catalog backup on the old computer and a catalog restore on the new computer which is the recommended way of transferring elements data. Did you just copy the photos over?
