Pictures are saved in different format in Photostream

I have not been using iCloud Photostream but I decided to do so for my iPhone 4S and iPad 2..
So, I turned photostream on for my iPhone and transferred about 300 files to my Macbook-doing so automatically transferred them to my iCloud Photostream.
However, I noticed that some pictures in my photostream look different from the original pictures in my iPhone.
Some are zoomed in strangely... for example, one picture of myself only showing my arm (zoomed in).
This is weird because when I look at phtostream pictures in my iPhoto of Macbook, they are fine.
But some pictures in my iPhone and iPad photostream look zoomed in.
Why is this happening and how to prevent this?

I have this too, but only on selected photos. The affected photos were taken using the front facing cameras on iphone 5 and ipad mini.
As OP reported, they look fine in iphoto but when viewed on either of the original devices they are zoomed in with the rest of the picture cropped. Deleting them from photo stream and re adding had no effect - they came back with the same odd zoom.
I would love to use photo stream to store my photos, but this bug is putting me off!
UPDATE: I've checked and the zoomed in pictures are consistent on both devices so it's not a random thing.

Not all selected pictures are shared in album sharing in Photostream

I am trying to share an album with my friends on photostream. After i selected the album, added the friends, and waited for ever to upload the pictures, I realized that not all the pictures are available on the shared album. So i had to go back again and check the photos one by one to see what has been uploaded and what is missing to reupload them manually. This can get very tiring in large albums.
I guess mmy question is this:
Why is it doing that ? and how can i avoid such behaviour?
Is there a way that i can monitor / check the photos uploaded to make sure that the full album is there online ?

The current Shared Photo Stream hourly and daily limits are as follows:
Maximum number of photos to share per hour: 1,000
Maximum number of photos to share per day: 10,000
These sharing limits are separate from the upload limits above. For example, in the same day you could upload 10,000 photos to My Photo Stream and then share those 10,000 photos, or 10,000 other photos.Some additional limits for Shared Photo Stream usage:
Maximum shared streams an owner can share: 100
Maximum shared streams a user can subscribe to: 100
Maximum subscribers per shared stream: 100 (the number of subscribers on each shared stream)

Ensure your iOS device has not fallen below 20% battery power. To preserve battery life, Photo Stream downloading and uploading are disabled when the battery reaches this threshold. Downloading and uploading will resume once you charge your device, and the battery charge is greater than 20%.

Saving in different formats

I commonly save my photos, when I have worked on them, as .psd files, and then again as .jpg files. Sometimes - not always - when I have saved the .psd file, and then save it as .jpg it adds the word "copy" to the name. Is there any way I can switch this irritating habit off?

Files with layers get saved as copies when saving to a format, like JPEG, that doesn't allow layers. Flatten your image first, or use Save for Web to create your JPEGs.

How do I edit long (3hrs.) podcast that are saved in mp4 format?

I have several 3 hour podcasts in mp4 format. I'd like to edit the length and save portions of the podcasts as mp3 files. I tried burning the mp4 file to an audio CD, but due to it's length (3 hrs.), it will not fit on a blank CD-R. I downloaded Audacity. Can this do the trick? Any suggestions? Thanks!

Glad that you finally sorted out what you were doing and discovered DV AVI.
In your particular situation Prism would serve your purposes of generating the DV AVI 4:3 since your footage is 640 x 480. However, for others with different footage, the free Prism shortcoming is that it cannot offer DV AVI widescreen 16:9; whereas MPEG Streamclip can do the job for 16:9 as well as 4:3.
QuickTime Alternative 1.8.1 that does come with the MPEG Streamclip's required MPEG2 Playback Component (free) also meets the Premiere Elements requirement for QuickTime installed on computer with Premiere Elements to work. This works in spite of the fact that QuickTime Alternative 1.8.1 is not the latest version of the regular QuickTIme.
In post 2 of the following older thread, I detail the use of Prism (for 4:3) and MPEG Streamclip (for 4:3 and 16:9) to produce the DV AVI file.

Any questions or need clarification, please do not hesitate to ask.
Moving forward, do not use AVCHD (MPEG4 AVC/H.264) or H.264.avi in Premiere Elements. It is not supported.

My Save As files are saving to different locations.

Since moving from CS3 to CS5 my files don't save to the same location they were opened from. If I have a file open and I Save As or Export, it will save the file in the location of the last item saved.
How do I change this so that no matter what is open that file's "Save As" or "Export" file will remain in the same location as the original file?

If you're on a Mac, try out the great utility, "Default Folder" from St. Clair Software. It'll let you do all kinds of things with open/save dialogs, and I've used it for over a decade and don't know what I'd do without it. It's also VERY inexpensive, so well worth it.

You will find the original photos in your Camera Roll (tap Photos, tap Albums at the bottom, tap Camera Roll). You will find the photo stream photos in the My Photo Stream album.
Also, photo stream photos don't use any of your iCloud space (but they do take up space on your iPad).

maybe someone has a tip:
I have imported some very important Jpegs from a Nikon D90 to Iphoto. Then right click and edit in external photo editor (Photoshop). After finsihed editing, hit the save button. Closed the photo in Photoshop, and returned to Iphoto, where the new enhanced image show up.
Up to here "everthing normal".
Now, opening a day later Iphoto, I can see the thumbnails of the event (as usual) , BUT when clicking on them, a heavy reduced file size picture shows up for a second, followed by a heavy zoomed in part of the Image. First I thought, okay, at least the high resolution image is still there, and I only have to zoom back with the slider to get it to normal view - but this is not possible. It stays this size.
To save the pictures, I used the function "show edited Picture"in FInder, and so I started Copying them to a separate Folder, in fear i might loose them.
So, pictures are saved, but library is somehow not working right. I also used the "create new thumbnails" function when starting Iphoto with command/alt. But it did not improve anything.
Any idea how to fix it?

If you're running Lion or Mt Lion that library folder will be invisible.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
Once you make your library folder visible you'll be able to find and delete the iPhoto cache.

Why downsizing the edited picture while saving?

After saving edited pictures with the app for Android, it seems like the pictures are saved with lower resolution. Is there a possibility to save full resolution? How and where to change this setting?
I did not know this until I came back from holiday. Because I liked my edited pictures better, I deleted the original once. When showing them to friends and family the edited pictures where much smaller as the deleted original once. Is it possible to change this in the future?

I did some testing and got the following result: the orginal picture is 2592 x 1944. After only cropping a little piece from the original and then pressing the save icon the picture is saved 889 X 740. The same original picture edited by changing the exposure and pressing the save icon is saved 1024 x 768. I tested with a second picture, with the same result. It happens as well if you select first the pic and then edit, or first edit and then selecting the pic.
It would be great if you could find a solution. The free app has a lot of feature. Hopefully we can use them in the future and keep the orginal seize of our picture.

Hey Sierra, You can do just what you have stated. My question, what is your "other"? If it is over 1.5 GB you most likely have corrupt files. Doing a Restore to New, Factory restore should correct it. Just make sure you make a full backup of all information on your iPod to your computer before you restore, so you don't lose your stuff, contacts, videos, pictures, non-iTunes music, etc, use the cable and connect with your computer. Then, via cable, connect to your computer, run the Restore to new, don't use your backup. Treat this iPod as if it was your first one ever. When restore is done, set up and add what info you wish to install on this iPod. The music apps etc you purchased should be on your computer, if not you should be able to retrieve purchased apps and music from iTunes. Any music, videos, apps not purchased from iTunes will be lost to you if you do not save them to your computer or the cloud first. When your done, make a current Backup and you should good to go. When I synced my iPhone I my Mac , it automatically created a file called photo stream and imported all photos from phone into that file on my Mac.
Do you mean the "Photo Stream" album in the "Web" section of iPhoto? Like shown here?
If that is the only place where you are seeing your photos, in "my Photo Stream" in the "Web" section of Photo, then you need to copy these photos to an event to import them into the library.
The Photo Stream album is only showing you what currently can be imported from iCloud, and the photos will vanish after a month, so you are having a limited time to grab them.
If you have enabled "Automatic Import" in iPhoto's Photo Stream Preferences, it should already have created an event "July Photo Stream" and other monthly events with the photos from the streams. What find in these monthly events has been savely imported.

I have Iphoto '09, version 8.1.2 (424). I am having an identical problem. All my pictures are imported into Iphoto when I downloaded them from my camera. Until recently, I thought that the pictures were actually saved in the library. Since I need to crop my pictures for the web, and Iphoto doesn't do that, I purchased Photoshop Elements to do that. To my surprise, when I try to get a picture from Iphoto to Photoshop, it can't be done. That was when I realized, after wasting a lot of time, that the photos are not in the Iphoto library.
I started naming the pictures on Iphoto so I had a recognizable file name to open on Photoshop. Couldn't find it. I looked in the Backup folder and the Transfer software folder (I have a Nikon camera), and the names I entered in the Iphoto display, could not be found.
When I am trying to upload a photo to the web, I get the Finder folder showing with an active folder called "Photos" under "Media", which only displays Iphoto and PhotoBooth. This is a folder name that I cannot find in my HD anywhere when I look for it. If I edit a picture with Photoshop, I am not going to save it back to Iphoto (not sure whether it will work properly). How do I get my folder of edited photos to show when I want to upload a picture to the web?
Where (the name of the folder) do I find the pictures I see displayed on the Iphoto library, including any name changes, keywords added, and so on?

Thank you Winston for a helpful response and for reminding me of something which I found nearly a year ago and then lost (in my mind) because I did not use it. I am grateful for a correct answer but it still only achieves part of what I wanted.
I can now choose my photos, decide how long they stay on screen and choose one of a variety of presentations. Two things I still can't do.
One is to get it to play the photos in the chronological order in which I have carefully set them in an album; it still tends to be random and repetitive. The other is that I cannot get any of them them to saty on screen for more than about 20 seconds. I guess this is all due to the way Apple TV is constructed.

The pictures I'm trying to transfer from my camera to Iphoto are coming up blank with a message saying they are in an unrecognized format. I see others have the same problem but I haven't found a solution that works. Any ideas?

As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?
