Pictures as attachments

How can I send an email that has pictures as attached files and NOT just the picture in the body of the email. I have clicked on the attachment button (then chosen the file) as well as file-->attach and for both the picture appears in the body of the email and not as a file.
Thanks

Try this:
Terminal Command
    1.    If Mail is open, quit it.
    2.    Open the Terminal (Applications → Utilities)
    3.    Enter the following command:
defaults write com.apple.mail DisableInlineAttachmentViewing -bool yes
Once you restart Mail.app any email messages that you send or receive will display attachments as icons, not inline. If you later you decide you want to change your preference back to viewing attachments inline simply repeat the above command but change the "yes" at the end to "false" (without the quotes).

    How can I send pictures in original size?

    Catherine, I'm having trouble with Mail resizing my images, even though I am selecting Actual Size or Large. In the email it generates, the image appears, but at an optimized size, down to 20-40K, from an original or about 4M.
    This just started happening suddenly. I've always sent large files, sometimes zipped, but even that isn't working. I found many solutions in Apple Support, but they all say something similar. Here is one.
    The problem here is, what does 'Open Terminal' mean? Thanks for your help!
    1. Quit mail
    2. Open Terminal, type:
    defaults write com.apple.mail MaxImageSize 'large'
    3. Press Enter
    4. Open mail again and drag an image to a new message.

  • How do I email pictures as attachments ???

    Hi!
    i obviously know how to send pics from aperture as an email -- but is there an easy way to do it os that they are sent as attachments?

    They are sent as attachments.  If you are using Lion there are some oddities, but are nevertheless attachments.  Why do you think otherwise?

  • Since upgrading to iOS 6 I can no longer send pictures as attachments to text messages, why?

    I upgraded to iOS6 and can no longer attach photos to text messages, why would that be?  Also since upgrading I find that the Personal Hotspot on my iPhone 4s is now grayed out.  Is this something to to with the upgrade or what?  I am really frustrated by the glitches with this new iOS.  It is very un-Apple like.

    I recommend taking it into the store.  Sounds to me like you have downloaded an app that has allowed itself to become the "primary" when sending and recieving images....  Apple is seriously dropping the ball!!  Just the other day, I downloaded an app called v-downloader...  Its an app that allows you to download videos through a 3rd party browser.  Well what it did, was automatically place restrictions on my phone...  I couldnt send pics, and it removed access to safari, facetime, messages, etc... so maybe try removing any recent app purchases.  Also, I would reccomend that you restore your phone.  it will redo the update off your computer and come through with less glitches
    But I agree, iOS6 has been nothing but problems... I plan on removing the update when I get home

    Ah ... yes ..... it does have a power button. Every iPad has the same sleep/power button in the same place on the iPad. I'm happy that you found a solution .... but maybe you should download this for reference.

  • Cannot send some attachments or pictures red circle with line (FIXED)

    After three weeks working with support on an escalated ticket to find the resolution on some obscure site relating to something not specifically "Blackberry" I figured I should share.
    Problem:
    Cannot send attachments larger than... Not sure of specifics but well bellow our Exchange Max settings.
    Cannot send pictures as attachments. or forward some emails with embeded images
    Both cases would result in a red circle with a horizontal bar.
    Our environment:
    Exchange 2010
    IIS 6.0
    Blackberry (All up to date) devices connected to BDS
    After 3 weeks of sending logs and trying settings here is what I found on the internet:
    http://forums.iis.net/t/1169257.aspx
    http://tmoaikel.wordpress.com/2011/10/14/http-413-request-entity-too-large-in-iis-6-and-7/
    http://www.iis.net/configreference/system.webserver/serverruntime
    I will let you read the above but essentially the data BDS is trying to push through IIS is too large for the cache (from what I can tell). Finally here are the changes I made to our IIS applicationhost.config file (copy paste to the bottom bellow the last tag). I am certain the number is still very high but I want to make sure there is no more issues. I have enough users wanting to jump ship already, I don't want more.

    I don't 100% know because we run all roles on one Exchange server.
    I referred to Exchange server in my previous post presuming you were running the CAS role on the Exchange server. If you have that running on another server, I would change it on there as well.
    Again, I can't see it doing any harm even if it isn't required!

  • Group conversation pictures not displaying on new ...

    I don't know if there's an option I'm not seeing but since I updated to the new skype preview, I cannot see group conversation pictures for any of the skype groups I'm in.
    Clicking on the conversation topic loads up the profile for the group, and I can change the picture in there, but it will not display for me (even in the profile window I get the default 'no picture' picture).

    Can we please have the conversation picture visible to all participats of group conversations back?
    And while you're at it, can we have (fubar) and (finger) and (hollest) back too?
    One more thing - can we please have back the ability to adjust the size of the typing box?  There is only one little line there now and one would like to be able to see at least 4 or 5 lines of the message you are typing.
    When you update, the update should improve, not remove.
    Thank you very much for this great app.

  • IPhone: Sending a picture as an attachment, not embedded within the email?

    Hello Community,
    Does anyone have a suggestion as to how to e-mail a picture from your iPhone, as an attachment? NOT embedded within the e-mail....?
    My wife's e-mail client (school teacher) will not allow her to receive/view emails that have pictures embedded within the body text. She can only receive pictures if they are attached separately on the e-mail.
    The only work-around I have found, is by installing the Google Mail app onto my iPhone. Google Mail will allow you to send pictures as attachments. But I do not prefer this. I would like to use the iPhone's native e-mail application.
    Thanks,
    BP

    To follow up on this question, is there any way to receive *.tiff or *.jpg on an iPhone/iOS device in general as an attachment rather than imbedded in the email, and "open with" some other application, or save to an application store, like GoodReader does with say, *.pdf's?

  • Adding attachments to web service

    Hi,
    I am working on a project which requires me to add pictures as attachments of a web service.
    This is what I do:
    messageContext = endpointContext.getMessageContext();
    SOAPMessageContext soapContext = (SOAPMessageContext) messageContext;
    SOAPMessage msg = soapContext.getMessage();
    //URL url = new URL("file:///attachments/jhe061.gif");
    URL url = new URL("http://www.google.ro/images/hp0.gif");
    DataHandler dataHandler = new DataHandler(url);
    AttachmentPart attachment = msg.createAttachmentPart(dataHandler, "image/gif");
    attachment.setContentId("image/gif");
    msg.addAttachmentPart(attachment);
    According to the J2EE tutorial, an image attachment should be added to the service. On the client side no sign of a multipart is found....
    Could anybody tell me what I do wrong?
    Thanks, d3m0

    Attachment support for webservices is not defined using the mime binding in the
    current jaxrpc1.1 implementation. It is done in an implementation specific manner.
    See the jaxrpc1.1 specfication chapter 7 where it talks about SOAP messages with
    attachments. This is optional functionality in the jaxrpc1.1 release.
    In jaxrpc1.1.2 (a follow on release) support for WS-I Attachment Profile1.0 is
    in this release defined via the wsdl mime binding. You can get this release by
    downloading the JWSDP1.4 release. This contains the required attachment support
    you need for handling attachments in webservices in a portable way. To create
    a webservice with attachments using this release is quite easy. You simply
    define your attachments in your wsdl using the wsdl mime binding. You can send
    attachments to a webservice in the SOAP request by defining the mime binding
    on the operation input and you can get attachments back from the webservice by
    defining the mime binding on the operation output. You will need to look at
    at the WS-I Attachment Profile 1.0 Specification to see how this is done.
    Also look at the documentation and release notes for the JWSDP1.4 release.
    Here is an example of the mime binding for a webservice operation on the
    output.
    <binding name="SwaTestSoapBinding1" type="tns:SwaTest1">
    <soap:binding transport="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/http" style="rpc"/>
    <operation name="getMultipleAttachments">
    <soap:operation/>
    <input>
    <soap:body parts="request" use="literal" namespace="http://SwaTestService.org/wsdl"/>
    </input>
    <output>
    <mime:multipartRelated>
    <mime:part>
    <soap:body parts="response" use="literal" namespace="http://SwaTestService.org/wsdl"/>
    </mime:part>
    <mime:part>
    <mime:content part="attach1" type="text/plain"/>
    </mime:part>
    <mime:part>
    <mime:content part="attach2" type="text/html"/>
    </mime:part>
    </mime:multipartRelated>
    </output>
    </operation>
    An example of using attachments in jaxrpc1.1:
    To do attachments in jaxrpc1.1 you can start from java and develop an SEI with
    signatures as follows:
    Sample SEI
    package attachmentstest;
    import java.rmi.Remote;
    import java.rmi.RemoteException;
    import java.awt.Image;
    import javax.mail.internet.MimeMultipart;
    import javax.xml.transform.Source;
    import javax.activation.DataHandler;
    import java.util.*;
    // Service Defintion Interface - as outlined in JAX-RPC Specification
    public interface AttachmentsTest extends Remote {
    public Image echoImage(Image v) throws RemoteException;
    public Image[] echoImageArray(Image[] v) throws RemoteException;
    public MimeMultipart echoMimeMultipart(MimeMultipart v) throws RemoteException;
    public MimeMultipart[] echoMimeMultipartArray(MimeMultipart[] v) throws RemoteException;
    public Source echoSource(Source v) throws RemoteException;
    public Source[] echoSourceArray(Source[] v) throws RemoteException;
    public DataHandler echoDataHandler(DataHandler v) throws RemoteException;
    public DataHandler[] echoDataHandlerArray(DataHandler[] v) throws RemoteException;
    Sample Client
    private boolean dataHandlerTest() {
         TestUtil.logMsg("AttachmentsTest:(dataHandlerTest)");
         boolean pass = true;
         DataHandler response;
    try {
    DataHandler dataHandler = new DataHandler(sourceFileURL);
         TestUtil.logMsg("Test request/response of DataHandler ...");
         TestUtil.logMsg("dataHandler="+dataHandler);
         response = port.echoDataHandler(dataHandler);
         if (!(response.getContent().equals(dataHandler.getContent()))) {
              TestUtil.logErr("DataHandler comparison mismatch");
              pass = false;
    } catch (Exception e) {
         TestUtil.logErr("Caught exception: " + e.getMessage());
    TestUtil.printStackTrace(e);
         pass = false;
         printTestStatus(pass, "AttachmentsTest:(dataHandlerTest)");
         return pass;
    private boolean sourceTest() {
         TestUtil.logMsg("AttachmentsTest:(sourceTest)");
         boolean pass = true;
         Source response;
    try {
    Source source = new StreamSource(xmlFileURL.openStream());
         TestUtil.logMsg("Test request/response of Source ...");
         response = port.echoSource(source);
         // Code for comparison here
    } catch (Exception e) {
         TestUtil.logErr("Caught exception: " + e.getMessage());
    TestUtil.printStackTrace(e);
         pass = false;
         printTestStatus(pass, "AttachmentsTest:(sourceTest)");
         return pass;

  • Forwarding pictures from Iphoto using Apple Mail

    Ok maybe it's me. But when I sue iPhoto to send pictures by email I select the photos I want in iPhoto, click the "send by email" button and it opens Apple mail.
    All that's cool. The problem is that it puts the pictures in the body of the email "which is ok some times" but most times I want to send them as an attachment, which they are not when they are in the body.
    So what do I need to do?
    KMW

    I had this same problem. when i clicked the email button from iphoto, it made an email, but the pics were in the body and when i sent it to other people, they couldnt download them as attachments. i did some testing and i found out its really just when you use that email button in iphoto. in leopard, theyve added a real nice feature in that you get your ilife media browser when you go to attach something from the web (gmail, aol.com, etc.) and now in Mail itself, theres a photo browser button. using this and then picking the pictures from iphoto will send the pictures as attachments. its just that email button in iphoto that is screwy. according to an ilife page "A new email message opens, ready for you to address and type your text in. Your photo appears in the body of the message, or as an attachment, depending on the email program you’re using.". youd think apple would have made their own mail program do it as an attachment. i dont know, im using my aol account through mail, so maybe thats it. for now just start the email in mail.

  • Mailing Attachments

    Hi folks,
    I'm having problem email pictures as attachments to windows users. My email sends the picture embedded in the email and apparently not as an attachment. Therefore, the photostop can't download it for printing. Is there a way to change that?
    Thanks

    Are you using RTF for message composition?
    If so, RTF with Tiger Mail is really HTML and this can sometimes cause problems with Windows Outlook users depending on the Outlook version the recipient is using.
    In addition, are you inserting attachments within/between message text and/or are you using a Signature?
    The Mail.app displays all image/photo and single page PDF attachments inline or viewed in place within the body of the message by default but depending on the recipient's email client and available preference settings, such attachments may appear inline or viewed in place within the body of the message when the message is opened by the recipient (as with the Mail.app when receiving such attachments) or as attached files only which must be opened separately to be viewed for which the sender has no control over.
    Inserting attachments within/between message text along with Tiger Mail's RTF which is really HTML along with including a signature can cause problems with some email clients - primarily with Windows Outlook.
    To ensure this doesn't happen, use Plain Text for message composition, be sure to include the file extension with each attached file, use the send Windows Friendly Attachments option and always attach all such files after all message text including your signature since there is no guarantee attachments that appear inline or viewed in place within the body of the message will appear the same when the message is opened by the recipient.

  • Pictures Via Email

    My friends who are using Windows do not seem to be able to view pictures I email them. Do I need to change format?? Pictures from a website called ZipRealty.com specifically. They are sent in the body of the message, not as an attachment. Do they need to go as an attachment?? What am I missing guys/girls??

    Use filename extensions, such as .doc, in the names of files you send to Windows recipients. This way the files can be read by a Windows application.
    If you send a file (for example, "MyFile") to someone who uses a Windows computer, the recipient might see two files: "MyFile" and "._MyFile." The recipient can ignore the file named "._MyFile."
    To make files you attach to all outgoing messages "Windows-friendly," choose Edit > Attachments > Send Windows Friendly Attachments. To attach a Windows-friendly file to a single message, click Attach in the toolbar of the message window and click Send Windows Friendly Attachments in the Attach dialog.
    If you send attachments to Mac users with the "Windows-friendly" option selected, your attachment may be unusable or may be missing information (such as the preview icon for the file).
    If you are sending picture/image attachments to a Windows Outlook user and depending on the Outlook version the recipient is using, Outlook doesn't always read the Mail.app's RTF properly.
    You should also use Plain Text for message compostion when sending picture/image attachments to a Windows Outlook user.

  • Sending jpg attachments to AOL subscribers

    HI all!
    I'm consistently unable to send jpg pictures as attachments to friends with @aol.com email addresses. They tell me that the picture numbers come through but no picture. When I send the attachments (and verify in the "sent" box), the picture are definitely attached to the email. Friends not with AOL get things no problem.
    Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
    Thanks
    Stephen Lewis3

    Hi Allan, I hope toy don't mind me cc'ing a post I put up earliet - but saw this and could see that the problem is related: "This problem is going to really mess up my recent migration to Macintosh. I prepare a lot of documents in Word and Excel and am careful to append them with .doc and .xls before emailing them to clients and colleagues - all of who are Windows users. One colleague - a senior who calls the shots uses an AOL account and email. I have never had a problem sending .doc and .xls attachments to him but he is now saying that the .doc's and some of the .xls's are arriving as un-open-able .bin files. This is a real bugger. I have tried the 'send Windows friendly attachment' button in iMail but it makes no difference. I have looked at other posts which point the problem back to AOL - but Windows users do not have the problem. Is there a viable solution to this problem because my colleague absolutely will not ditch AOL".
    I send email from iMail using plain text. The AOL recipient says he is now able to open .pdf (but the filename gets changed in transit) and .xls (no probs). He can open .doc by using the 'open with' command. The file name is shortened and the suffix is removed. Any suggestions gratefully received.

    When I attempt to open pictures or attachments attached to text messages the screen goes to black and it says "loading" but nothing happens...any thoughts?

  • AppleScript Forward Messages Attachments

    Hello,
    I'm trying to make it so that any iMessages including picture/video attachments I receive get forwarded to my e-mail address. I created a script that runs on the "message received" event from the iMessages preferences. It worked fine for just text, but cant seem to get the video/picture out of the message.
    using terms from application "Messages"
              on message received theMessage from theBuddy for theChat
                             get attachment theFile

                                                           send
                                            end tell
                             end tell
              end message received
    end using terms from
    As I expected I get an error that "theFile" is undefined or whatever, meaning that get attachment had no effect. For now lets assume every message received will always contain a picture and some text.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    I did some more reading online and looked for information on iChat as it is apparently very similar to
    Messages. I found this on Apple Developer:
    https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/#samplecode/iChatAppleScriptSamples/List ings/Add_Incoming_Images_to_iPhoto_Add_incoming_image_to_iPhoto_applescript.html
    So I modified the code to this but still no luck:
    on received file transfer invitation theFileTransfer
             accept transfer of theFileTransfer
                        tell application "Mail"
                                       set theNewMessage to make new outgoing message with properties
                             {subject:"photo", content:"themessage", visible:true}
                       tell theNewMessage
                               make new to recipient at end of to recipients with properties
                                       {address:"[email protected]"}
                               send
                       end tell
                        end tell
    end received file transfer invitation
    Also, made sure to have the AppleScript run on Incoming File Transfer in the Messages preferences.
