Pictures don't play... How to make a slide show with iMovie ?

Please help. I drop pictures into time line in iMovie 10 and they don't apear in the window I can't play them. where as video can be played. but when I move cursor over the pictures only green screen apears. Why ????

Not all Blu-ray palyers can play MP4 container video files. So this may, or may not work depending on your Blu-ray player's capabilities. ALL Blu-ray players will play H.264 AVC HD video with .MTS file format, but Lightroom 3 does not offer this as a slideshow export option.

You can batch process a set of prepared slides from Full Edit (see image) using:
File >> Process Multiple Files
In the PMF dialog you can choose filename, date, or description (caption)
Make sure you choose a separate destination folder to your source folder so as tot to permanently overwrite your originals.

I am i bit puzzled by the use of iphoto/imovie/itunes.
I have a Sony camera which generates jpg photos and mpg videos; besides, i have 3gp and mp4 videos from cell phones.
Firstly, i imported all of them to iphoto. I used a automator workflow to help importing from hotsynced Palm centro files, to discover the first problem with the 3gp files: they could not be iported by workflows.
Still, they could be seen in iphoto, but then i tried to make a slide show. My idea was to put the photos and videos of a certain event to be watched together, or at least to be able to watch the videos in a sequence, without having to click on each one.
I didnt get it in iphoto, so i switched to imovie. it was even worse, since it cannot import the mpgs and the 3gps (the jpg photos were ok). What could i do about that? is there any converter or other way?
then i tried the itunes, and it was the opposite: it imported and played in sequence the mpg videos, but not the photos. This is a workaround anyway, since the program expects to play movies, and makes my daughter a "star", but that`s ok, she is one to me.
i'll be thankful for hints on how to make the imovie compatible with the 3gp and mpgs, or finding some way to do this edition in iphoto or even with itunes.

QT Pro ($30) and MPEG Streamclip (free) complement each other. In many cases one can do things that the other cannot. For instance, MPEG Stramclip can handle/edit multiplexed formats while QT Pro cannot. QT Pro allows layering of data tracks while Streamclip does not. Streamclip merges file streams more easily than QT Pro but QT Pro allows the "Movie to MPEG-4" export to "passthrough" the video while Streamsclip does not. And so on and so forth...

By "sony camera," are you referring to a still digital camera (multiplexed MPEG-1) or a Sony video camcorder taking MPEG-4/AVCHD with AC3 audio in an MPEG wrapper, a Sony DVD/HDD camera storing some kind of MPEG-2/AC3 files. On a Mac, the extension MPG normally refers multiplexed MPEG-1 (or MPEG-1 audio layer) files while MPEG normally refers to multiplexed MPEG-2 video content with MPEG-1, layer 2 audio (MPEG2/MP2) but may also refer to files with MP3 or AC3 files in an MPEG, VOB, or TS wrapper. I had one set of old pictures completed as a slide show. The second set is almost complete. I have lost most of the first slide show pictures. The second set I cannot finish adding the remainder of the pictures . A box appears and says "error number 9". I don't know what happened. What does this mean? How did the pictures get lost from the slide show?
Do you know the amount of hours it took to do the scanning? Vista doesn't make it easy. One picture at a time.

Of course iTunes is looking for the music on the external HDD. Enabling iTunes Match does not magically change the location of the iTunes library to the cloud.
To play the music either plug the external HDD back into your computer or create a new, empty library to use for streaming the iTM content. The latter can be accomplished by holding down the Option key when launching iTunes, choosing "create library" then enabling iTunes Match on the new library. DO NOT have iTunes scan your HDD for music.

There are many ways to produce slide shows using iPhoto, iMovie or iDVD and some limit the number of photos you can use (iDVD has a 99 chapter (slide) limitation).
If what you want is what I want, namely to be able to use high resolution photos (even 300 dpi tiff files), to pan and zoom individual photos, use a variety of transitions, to add and edit music or commentary, place text exactly where you want it, and to end up with a DVD that looks good on both your Mac and a TV - in other words end up with and end result that does not look like an old fashioned slide show from a projector - you may be interested in how I do it. You don't have to do it my way, but the following may be food for thought!
Firstly you need proper software to assemble the photos, decide on the duration of each, the transitions you want to use, and how to pan and zoom individual photos where required, and add proper titles. For this I use Photo to Movie. You can read about what it can do on their website:

Neither of these are freeware, but are worth the investment if you are going to do a lot of slide shows. Read about them in detail, then decide which one you feel is best suited to your needs.
Once you have timed and arranged and manipulated the photos to your liking in Photo to Movie, it exports the file to iMovie as a DV stream. You can add music in Photo to Movie, but I prefer doing this in iMovie where it is easier to edit. You can now further edit the slide show in iMovie just as you would a movie, including adding other video clips, then send it to iDVD 7, or Toast, for burning.
You will be pleasantly surprised at how professional the results can be!

after making the photo slide show, i clicked share>export movie. after which i burned using toast. the file became a .mov. i tried playing it in my mac and it worked. my fear now is will it also play in a regular dvd?... i read from google that mov files won't run in dvd players. what format should i convert it to so it'll play in a dvd player. can you suggest a faster way i can burn my projects for it takes me almost an hour to export. im going to make 28 slideshows for my kids in school. *=( if i need to do this process 28 times, i may not be able to finish it on time. please suggest a software or an alternative as to how i should do this... m more comfortable using imovie than iphoto. thanks and i hope to hear from someone soon *=j

You can't; not natively, anyway, since the iPad is not a phone. If you want to make a call, you'll need to use some third-party Voice-Over-IP service such as Skype.
I'm not sure what you're asking when you ask about sending a message. If you mean a text message, you can either use iMessage, which can send messages to other users also running iMessage, or you can look in the iTunes Store for SMS apps, a few of which are available. They use separate services to actually send the message and so require an Internet connection, either WiFi or 3G.

YOu can't use the whole song for a ringtone, you would have to create one 30 second or less.
YOu can download an app to create the ringtone.

Why all pictures don't play in drop zones?

I have asked this question before, but still my pictures don't play in all the drop zones. Very simply I drop 4 pictures in 4 drop zones (Theme 5.0, Wedding White). Only three pictures show up in the loop. I change the length of the loop but nothing change. Basically, what is the reason of having 4 drop zones if only 3 play?

My 'Wedding White' also plays only three pictures, but there is a fourth possibility for the heart shaped button.
This button normally links to and plays the first few seconds of the main movie, but you can play any video clip you like in the button by option-dragging a clip over the button and dropping it. I prepare special clips for this using Quicktime Pro.
Be careful! If you simply drop it without the option key, the button will 'see' the drop as a new movie to link to, instead of the main movie.

How can I control the music that plays during Apple TV photo slide shows?

I don't want to make my parents listen to Breaking Benjamin music as they watch my photo slide shows on Apple TV. Need something more sedate. But if a B.B. song is in my iTunes music library, it is a candidate for random selection as background music for my slide shows. How do I control what music plays during Apple TV photo slide shows?

What I find is really silly, is the fact the music video's are listed under that artists albums in the Music menu. And when you go into the video 'album' (called 'Unknown' unless you change it) there is an option to shuffle the tracks. Clicking this just results in an error message. So, they should either remove that option if it is a video album, or, better yet, GET IT TO WORK. So silly of them to omit this.
