Pictures fade on JPG export versions to iPhoto

On exporting ca. 1mb JPGs from Aperture RAW NEF files, the images appear much more faded once in iPhoto. Why would that be and how can I avoid this? (Using Aperture 2 - trial)
Thanks!

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on eight different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary from version to version and OS to OS. So before anyone can help, they need information to work with. Things like:
- What version of iPhoto.
- What version of the Operating System.
- Details. What were you doing when the problem arose?
- Did it ever work properly?
- Are there error messages?
- What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
Anything else you can think of that might allow someone else to understand your issue.

I loaded IDVD on my IMAC. Now IPHOTO will not open pictures due to pictures saved with a newer version of IPHOTO. How can i restore the newer version of IPHOTO back on my system?

Sounds like a possible damage library.  Give this a try: make a temporary, backup copy (select the library and type Command+D) and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Export pix from iPhoto 4.0.3 to a digital picture frame (Tiger OS)

Can't succeed in downloading pix using a card reader. Desired pix moved to an album, then export selected. In dialog box, file export and album name are selected, jpg extension selected, pixel size changed and use extension is selected. The jpg file type and pixel size items conform to frame mfgr specs. The system proceeds to do something as the 100+ photos are supposedly transferred. After proper disconnection from the Mac, the Xd card is placed in the frame but no pix show up. In trying different sizes and extensions, the system prompts that these pictures already exist, as if the pictures are loaded into the card. I have tried creating a desktop file and dragging the album from iPhoto to the desktop with no success ( a subsequent move from the desktop to the card reader icon was planned). How can I be sure that the pix are on the card? How does the system know I want the pix to go on the card since it was never selected? Vince V

    Vince V,
How does the system know I want the pix to go on the card since it was never selected?
Any time you export files from iPhoto (or save files in a Save or Save As dialog box in another application) you have to designate a location for the exported (or saved) files. If you did not designate the Xd card as your location, then the system does not know you want the exports saved there. Where did your exports go? Can you do a Finder Search for them?

Did you remember to select all of the pix in the album before selecting export? It has been a very long time since I've used version 4, but in iPhoto 6 when you click the Export button in the dialog box you described it opens to a standard Mac Save As dialog box. That second box is where you specify the location for the exported files. Are you getting that dialog?
I have tried creating a desktop file and dragging the album from iPhoto to the desktop with no success ( a subsequent move from the desktop to the card reader icon was planned).
I would recommend a 2-part move, just as you describe here. What did happen when you tried to drag the photos to the desktop folder?
    Regards.

I can't load pictures to online site... IPhoto works but not aperture3.  I have edited photos that I exported to an external drive but they will still not load to Walgreens for printing.  Does anyone know what I can do?

Are you shooting RAW? Are you exporting masters or versions? Is there a size limitation on the Walgreens site?

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • New used computer doesn't have iPhoto so can't transfer pictures from old computer without upgrading new one. Is there a way to download an older version of iPhoto?

I can't access any of my iPhoto pictures from my old computer since the new (used) computer I got doesn't have it. The new one is a newer version but the applestore only has the iLife 11 which would need me to upgrade. I'm not against upgrading I really just want to access these photos. I used an external harddrive to store the pictures from my old computer and am assuming that the only reason they're not showing up on the new one is because it doesn't have the applicatin (makes sense).
Is there a way to get an older version of iPhoto?
The pictures from iPhoto that are on the external harddrive will show up if i had to the application right? Will they show up on a newer version of iphoto even though they're originally from an older version?
Ahh sorry if this is confusing I'm just really frustrated at technology right now..../////

Is there a way to get an older version of iPhoto?
I suggest you don't do that. There is no guarantee it will work right with a more recent OS.
Install the correct version of iPhoto for the version of Mac OS X you are running. (Which is what?) The folks here will tell you how to get to the Library on the external drive when you provide more info about your computer.

  • IPhoto version 4 wont open pictures burned on CD using version 5?

i have a G5 iSight PowerPC and my girlfriend a G4 ibook (2004). I downloaded our vacation pics from my camera to my G5 using iPhoto v5.0.4 and accidentally erased my camera's memory card after the download. So - I thought I'd burn a disc with the new photos and then import them onto her G4 (which uses iPhoto v 4.0.3). Everytime I insert the photo disc into the G4 I get a message saying iPhoto cannot open album as it was created using a later version of iPhoto.
I'm stuck since she cannot get our vacation pics onto her computer ! Can anyone help? Thanks in advance..
    iMac G5 iSight Mac OS X (10.4.7) compatibility, versions, iPhoto v4 , v5
    ibook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

iPhoto 5 is perfectly capable of exporting photos to a folder on your desktop. Just drag the selected images from iPhoto to the target folder. Burn that folder to a CD, and you can share it with anyone who has a computer with a functioning CD drive.

  • I just installed iPhone 11 and when I try to play a slide show, it just blinks and and shows the whole group of pictures at once. I have done many slideshows with older versions of iPhoto. How can I fix this?

I just installed iPhoto from the iLife 11 and when I try to play a slide show, it just blinks and shows a whole bunch of pictures at once. I have done many slide shows with no problem in an earlier version of iPhoto. What can I do to fix this?

thats tough man, yeah exchanging it is the best option. But why do people always leave a message saying" i'll probably just by an ipod" and it's usually followed by, "even though i don't like apple or ipod" . I mean fine, if u feel like giving up on the zen micro thats fine, i personally don't care if you're going to buy an ipod. for god sakes ipod isn't even the next alternati've mp3 players, theres plenty. Are u just trying to get the creative people saying "oh man we lost another one to ipod" cuz i'm sure they don't lose sleep over u wanting to buy an ipod instead of a zen. *done ranting*

  • I recently upgraded my mac desktop to oxs 10.9.2 and when I open my i photo library there are no pictures.  The message is "Your photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iPhoto after the upgrade.Scared to hit upgrade!!!

I recently upgraded my mac desktop to oxs 10.9.2 and when I opened i photo, it says the photo livrary needs to be upgraded to work with this version of I photo.  Where are my pictures?  The message is "Your photo library will not be readable by previous versions of Iphoto after the upgrade. The upgrade process for very large libraries may take an hour or more to complete".  I'm scared to upgrade!!  Does this mean my photos can't be read once I upgrade?  Where are my pictures?

First have you backed up  your computer, if you have and your iPhoto library is in the back up you have nothing to be concerned about. If you are not using at least Time Machine to back up your system then you should be concerned because well frankly that is simply bad computing practice and you risking all of your data.
As for the message you received all that means is your system was using an earlier version of iPhoto with the version of OS X you previously had installed and now that you have updated to 10.9.2 (Mavericks) your version of iPhoto has also upgraded and  needs to get ready to import all of your pictures. If you have backup then you should be confident the upgrade will go through smoothly, Apple generally has very good instructions and will not give bad advice, second guessing them may be cautious but is generally unnecessary.

  • HT5037 Can someone please help me recover my pictures from iPhoto?  I upgraded to the newest version of iPhoto and now I can't get to my pictures.  I even downloaded the upgraded but I don't know what to do next.

I recently upgraded to the newest version of iPhoto.  I used to have version 7, I believe.  Now that I have updated I can no longer see my pictures.  I downloaded the upgrader but I don't know what to do next.  Please help!

Go to your Applications/ Utilities folder. Finder the upgrader app. Double click it to run it.

  • How do I transfer pictures from a hard drive that has an older version of iPhoto?

My old mac broke, so they removed the hard drive and put it in a case for me, and I bought a new MacBook Pro. I thought it would be as simple as plugging in my old hard drive so I could see all my old photos, but when I try to do so, it says that the version is not supported on this computer. It tells me to update the latest version of iPhoto, but when I go to do that, it says I already have it. I have tried with a different hard drive as well that I used as my back up disk and it does the same thing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Its so many years of my life, my wedding, my son's photos since birthday that I'm scared I cannot retrieve!
    Thank you!

Before you proceed, make a backup copy of your iPhoto library, if you do not have a current backup.
Which version of iPhoto do you have?  You may need an upgrade to a major new release, and not just an update.
With Yosemite you need to run iPhoto 9.6. A new computer should have iPhoto 9.6 installed. Is that what you are seeing in your Applications folder?
If you are having iPhoto 9.6 installed, double click it in the Applications folder to launch it, while holding down the alt/options key to select your iPhoto library.
When iPhoto launches, it should you prompt, that the iPhoto Library needs upgrading to a new format. Click upgrade, and let it run. It may need some time to finish.
Which was your previous iPhoto version? If it was iPhoto 7 or older, you need to run the iPhoto Library upgrader first. Download, and install it from here:   iPhoto '11: About the Library Upgrader
After you installed it, don't forget to run it. It will be installed in Applications > Utilities.

  • How do I print pictures to be 3 by 5 or 2 by 3? I had those choices in the earlier version of iPhoto.

With the older version of iPhoto there was a pull down menu of sizes to print. I would like to print 3x5 or 2x3 rather than the larger sizes. Is it possible to do this any more? If not is it possible to uninstall this version of iPhoto and go back to the earlier? Thanks

  • In my previous version of iphoto, I could display the keyword under each picture. However, since my last upgrade, I do not see this feature. Was it discontinued?

In my previous version of iphoto, I could display the keyword under the photo. I don't see it in my latest upgrade. Is it still possible? How?

    No it's not.
IPhoto menu -> Provide iPhoto Feedback and let them know what you think.

  • How can I move pictures, with their videos, from a different iPhoto Library to my new that I already have been using?

I replaced my hard drive in my MBP a few months ago and started using a iPhoto Library and have been ever since. Now that I've actually taken the time to get most of my files off my old hard drive, I want to import all my albums, hopefully in the same order, to my new iphoto library.
I know I can export pictures, and it works well, but when I do so for the videos in those folders, all I get is a second-long video of the original.
I don't want to have to opt-click everytime to select either of my libraries. I do want to combine them but have not figured out how. I ask if anybody has the answer. Thanks in advance.

The only way to merge Libraries is with the paid ($20) version of  iPhoto Library Manager
I know I can export pictures, and it works well, but when I do so for the videos in those folders, all I get is a second-long video of the original.
File -> Export and set the Kind to Original

  • Why do videos show up in photos and why can't i export them from iPhoto for iOS

Somehow, I just don't get it:
If I take a picture on my iPhone 5s, it is saved to 'Pictues' ... sound reasonable.
If I take a video on the same device, it is saved to 'Pictures' ... that's where it gets messy.
If I receive a video on an app like e.g. WhatsApp ... it also get's stored in ... guess what ... 'Pictures'!
Now that's a little bit confusing.
Generally I would like to keep these different types of media (still pictures vs. moving images) in separate spaces, but it seems like that is not possible out of the box, because if go ahead and tab on that share-button in iOS 7 i get prompted to share the videos to various installed apps like e.g. YouTube, Vimeo, Twitter - you name it.
It seems like there is no way to export videos from 'Pictures' to 'Videos', even if you use iPhoto for iOS in the gap.
The only ways (that I found) to get what I want are way to circumstantial:
Either use iPhoto for the Mac to import videos from the iCloud Photostream to the Mac and from there via "Show in Finder" re-import to iTunes' 'Videos'
or use iExplorer (a third party application for the Mac) and export the videos from the iPhone to a temp-folder and from there re-import with iTunes to 'Videos'.
Why isn't there just a simple share-sheet or export label called 'Export to Videos'.
    Why doesn't it just work?
Am I missing out on something?
Is there an easier way to complete this relatively simple task?
Hints and support are very much appreciated!
    Kind regards,
    Chris

Hi. My camera is a Canon 600D. And yes my videos are stored in the Aperture library and they are not referenced. Even then I tried to select all the videos in Aperture and clicked 'consolidate masters' and there was a messge that said all 'none of the files are referenced',... so they didn't need consolidating.
I also tried preferences> export> external video editor > choose > iMovie. And then right click on the video to edit with imovie. Even then the video didn't show up in iMovie. It seems like the only option for me is to import the videos directly to iMovie which means there will be two versions of the same file stored in my computer eating up space.
    APPLE. What are you doing?
