Pictures from apple tv to imac

I have a first generation apple tv with all my pictures on it.  I was synching with a PC and the hard drive failed.  Is there a way to synch backwards from Apple TV for photos to my new IMAC?

Firstly do not sync with a new Mac as it will delete the content from the AppleTV.
Next, the bad news is that AppleTV is not storage/backup and there's no official way to get stuff off it.
Your options are:
1 - Dismantle it, remove the hard drive (2.5" PATA) and add connect to the Mac and copy (copy don't alter anything on it) files off the partitions to look for your media.
2 - Google unofficial AppleTV hacks/modifications, install one and access AppleTv via Terminal to copy stuff over if you can find it.
Sorry to say neither option is straightforward, and if you're not a Terminal/SSH guru the brute force method may be best though would invalidate any warranty.

I get an error message trying to import photos from phone to imac. have 266 photos to get on my computer. how can i get these pictures off iphone onto my imac.?

Try a couple folders up - a parent folder's permissions can cause problems with a child subfolder.
And don't just rely on the read-only box. Go to c/users/username/music, right-click and get permissions, go to the security tab and make sure your username has full control and ownership.

    texaslas,
    Is auto-play enabled?
You could install Picasa3.9 and it will let you import the pictures.
If autoplay is enabled for pictures, see Tutorial

  • Can I get a data recovery from Apple if my iMac was in the hard drive replacement programme and I wasn't notified about it?

Basically my iMac just crashed and I searched on Google for replacing my hard drive and came across the iMac 1TB Seagate Hard Drive Replacement Program at http://www.apple.com/support/imac-harddrive/
Which is that Apple is asking all 2009 - 2011 iMac users to return their iMac for a free hard drive replacement because it currently has a fault in it. After entering in my serial number, I see that my iMac is elegible for a replacement.
I did register my iMac with Apple, but I didn't receive any email about this program and I lost all my recent data because of the faulty hard drive. I never had an issue before with the drive so this just happened out of the blue.
Is it possible to get a free data recovery from Apple for this? I find that it was a lack of communication that I lost most of my data.

I completely understand that it's my responsibility to back up my data but I have it set to every 2nd month, not on a weekly or daily basis to back up the data.
Apple might not be in data recovery business but could they not acquire a third party to do this?
    This is what happened:
It was on sleep overnight and when I tried waking it, it was lagging badly. So I shut it down and restarted it. I phoned into techincal support to find out whats wrong, but they were giving me advice to reset the params etc. But i think it made it worse because it didnt want to get passed the white start up screen.
So I phoned back to ask if it's a usual issue with my version of iMac and the man replied that it isn't common and that I should run the disk utility to check the hard drives health.
I installed Mountain Lion on a USB and started the disk utility. Then it highlighted in red that it's a hardware fault and cannot be repaired by the disk utility. Therefore the hard drive has a serious fault with it.
That's when I Google'd for a replacement drive and came across the program. The techincal guy didn't even tell me about it or anything.
If I knew about this sooner, I would have taken it in for a replacement.

  • How to I import pictures from Apple Photos 1.0 to Lightroom 6.0?

I can't find an option to do this! Importing pictures from my pictures does not have all the images. My photos app(by Apple) has all my pictures which I would like to import to Lightroom. Can anyone suggest how this can be done? I downloaded the trial version today. Thanks in advance for any help you are able to provide.

no you can't only option is to take it apart and put the harddisk in an usb ext harddisk case and connect it to the computer copy the photos to the computer
take the harddisk out of the ext usb harddisk case and put it back into the appletv and assemble it again

  • Sorted order of returned pictures from Apple

    Hi,
Everytime I order prints (4x6) from Apple - via iPhoto - they are shipped to me in random order. For example, I upload 50 prints of a baseball game. When the 50 prints come back, the are not sorted in the same order I upload them (it is completely random!). Not an issue with 50, but when I upload 200 at a time, it is a pain to resort the pix. Any suggestions?
    Greg

    Zookeeper7:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. The prints are probably printed in alphanumerical order and if you sent them in a different, manually set, order that would be the reason. Computers normally sort alphanumerically in folders/directories. So unless you export them from the album using the Use Album Name option, reimport and then order those renamed files you'll continue to get them in a different order.

  • Transfer purchased HD iTunes movie from Apple TV to iMac

    Hello,
If I purchase a HD movie from iTunes can it be transferred to my iMac? Then, I would like to take that copy and put on my Macbook (with USB stick?) which is in turn synced to a second Apple TV. All of my hardware shares the same iTunes account.
If I can't do this with HD movies, can I do it with standard format?
    Thanks in advance.

to expand on my previous post:
If I purchase a HD movie from iTunes can it be transferred to my iMac?
again, yes. iTunes should be set up as a syncing library, though. purchases made on the TV should sync back to the synced iTunes library automatically on the next sync.
Then, I would like to take that copy and put on my Macbook (with USB stick?)
either using a USB stick or via your network. you could also set up _*Home Sharing*_ on both Macs.

  • Boot to FTP to transfer pictures from Apple TV (firstgen)

i'm trying to recover about 15k photos from my firstgen appletv HD. i tried booting the appletv to a USB flash drive to enable FTP transfer to my iMac (Mountain Lion). i tried 3x's and my iMac never found it. (Actually, i couldn't find "Connect to Server" in the "Go Menu" in the OS X Finder - so i assume it couldn't find it. Also, i don't know if the appletv light was supposed to just flash orange or was it supposed to boot up to white? but, i digress...)
i'm wondering if, instead of testing alternate flash drives on PC-based and Mac-based platforms, i should just open the appletv, remove the HD and hardwire it as an external drive to my iMac or a PC. if i wipe, or otherwise fry the appletv boot file, can i still access the photos if i hardwire it as an external drive?
i appreciate all input. if you have personal experience, i'm interested to know.
    thanks. dwc

Tou's won't allow us to discuss unauthorised modifications to Apple's software. You should look elsewhere or consider removing the HD from the device and directly mounting it on a Mac.

  • AOL Mail Client can't download pictures from Apple Mail?

    Hey gang-
My sister and her family use the current Windows AOL email client to send and receive email. I sent them some JPEGs using Apple Mail, and I selected "Send Windows Friendly Attachments" before composing the message. Anyhow, they can see the pictures in the AOL mail client, but they don't seem to be able to download the JPEGs to disk. They say they've never had this problem before, so I wonder if it's an issue with how Apple Mail sends the JPEGs?
I have no idea how the Windows AOL mail client works, but does anyone know of any general guidance I can give them?
    Thanks!
    Dave

    Dave,
Travis has captured all the facets of the problem. I will only add that the surest way to send to AOL is to use Plain Text. This has always been the advice with Mail (i.e., not use RTF to AOL recipients) but additional factors have been added by Mail 2.0. Whenever RTF is used, along with attachments, and there is furthermore a mixture of fonts utilized, Mail converts to use HTML, and changes the status of files attached, even for users other than AOL. The most common sources of mixed font usage are from a Signature, or from text included in replying, or forwarding.
When sending to AOL users, continue to use Windows Friendly, but also use Plain Text. If you do not wish to set Plain Text as the default in Compose, then on these messages, click on Format in the Menu Bar, and choose Make Plain Text on an individual message.
Let us know if problems persist, despite this method.

  • New screen from Apple in my iMac 24", and burn-in problems already?

Is there an engineering or manufacturing problem with the 24" iMac screens?
My last screen was replaced under warranty a month ago because of dimming/banding problems. It also had burn-in issues from early on, but I lived with them. However, I didn't expect a brand new screen to have such severe burn-in problems right from the start.
Here's what Apple says: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2807 . In summary, they tell you that your problem is leaving images/text in the same place too long. Duh! But interestingly enough, I don't have the same burn-in problems on my PC laptop or cheap HP external monitor.
I spend hours at a time doing development, and often I'll have an IDE open that has a source tree on a left panel. That widget of text and icons won't change much, and I won't be moving my IDE window around because I have it maximized. It is a normal pattern of use that I can't really avoid.
Is this also a problem on the Apple external monitors? What about on their laptops? Must I move to a Mini with a Dell monitor? Are iMacs only intended for lightweight users that spend an hour or two each day shuffling windows around and watching TV?

In addition to my (now archived) thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1979518&tstart=0
I just had my screen changed under apple care. Excellent option, happy I got it, no hassle, but took three weeks to order and replace the display at the service center. It seems to be a known issue with numerous iMacs, to my surprise also with the latest models, and I have seen this problem on quite a number of iMacs, all over the world, only on the alu models. Though I cannot say for sure what the problem is, I have now installed smcFanControl to increase the minimum speed of the on board fans. Also, as I was suggested by the apple technician, have a screen saver for a few minutes before turning off the display (Energy Saver) to prevent any possible burn ins, (while I remain convinced this is not my problem).
Keeping my fingers crossed my problem will not re-appear, or that it WILL re-appear before the end of the 3 year apple care.

  • "Get Pictures from Apple iPhone" - How do I shut this off?

When I plug my iPhone in with a USB from my computer my pictures pop up. How can I have that NOT show up? The first time a message showed up asking prompting me if I wanted the photos to appear and I hit "don't show message again", but now I would not like my photos to pop up.
    Any ideas?
    Thnx

    Hi,
The digital camera actions on the computer are controlled by its Operating System.

  • Pictures From Apple TV to a Computer

Is it possible to export photos from the Apple TV hardrive? My computer crashed and I will lose almost a year of photos if I can not get them back on the computer??
Of course I will remember to back up more often, thank you Time machine, but for now I just want to recover the photos from my 5-year-old daughter's first softball game.
    Thanks

Unfortunately traffic to AppleTV is one way.
There is no easy way to get the photos off there short of a) hacking it (Google) b) dismantling it and using the hard drive in a caddy.

  • After Ordering OSX Snow From Apple For My iMac To Install Win 7 64 bit

Customer Support knew I was trying to install Windows7 64 bit when they told me I need OSX Snow Leopard for my iMac in order to do so. I bought the software and it was delivered today. I installed Windows 7 successfully (64 bit) and when I went to install the Boot Camp 3.1 drivers it said I needed Boot Camp 3.0 drivers first. I tried to install those and found out that is when my iMac Intel Core 2 Duo 2.8 GHZ processor cannot handle 64 bit Windows.
I have already partitioned my HD with Boot Camp 50/50. Is the only solution to uninstall Windows 7 64? How do I do that? Does anyone know if Windows 7 64 bit can be run on an I Mac early 2008 24"?

do you have SP1 integrated in Win7 instillation disk?
