Pictures from Nikon D70 appear darker in iPhoto 5.04

Everytime I import pictures in iPhoto, they appear too dark, certainly compared to the D70 "on-board" screen.
I would even say, I have to rework them everytime to get a proper lighting.
The D70 is configured to sRGB mode.
Has anyone an idea ? I did not find any "match profile" function in iPhoto, although this clearly looks like a profile mismatch

You may also wish to check whether the Nikon D70 includes an excessively large MakerNote in its exif information (I believe it may be one of the cameras that does). If the MakerNote is tens of kb (as on my Pentax Optio), rather than a few hundred bytes like most cameras, then when iPhoto 5 includes this in the Library.iPhoto, it can slow down iPhoto 5 to an unusable degree once you have thousands of photos.
If you have Graphics Converter, the browser mode will show the size of the MakerNote (they call it Manufacturer Note). Alas, it doesn't seem to show the iso speed.

I uploaded pictures from a second camera and my iphoto created a second library, how do i get back to the first library? Can anyone help?

I have no idea what you did or what happened - but I can assure you that loading from a different camera does not create a new library
So you need to supply information and someone here will assist you in sorting this out and figuring out what you really did
What version of iPhoto do you have? What version of the OS? Why do you think that a second library has been created? What do you see when you launch iPhoto with the optipon kep depressed and use the select library option? Where is your iPhoto library normally?
Anything else you can tell us that might help?

  • I updated my Macbook Pro last week to Lion.  I went to go import pictures from a memory card to my iPhoto, but only a portion of them loaded before my iPhoto froze and I had to Force Quit it. Now iPhoto won't even open... Help!

Please! I need an answer fast!!!!

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

Time machine should have a good copy - how are you determining that it is corrupt
If you want the thumbnails as photos right click on the iPhoto library and make a copy of the data folder and then import it into a new iPhoto library - it contains your thumbnails

  • How do I import pictures from nikon d810

how do I import pictures from nikon d810?

This camera is very new, so you have to until the next version of LR is released—one that has support programmed into it.
The other thing you can do is use the DNG Converter 8.6 release-candidate available at Adobe Labs and convert you NEFs to DNGs and those DNGs will be recognized by the older LR version.
Look at the CS6 download for ACR 8.6 RC at Adobe Labs:  http://labs.adobe.com/
Keep in mind that this is a pre-release program and things may change before the final release so your photos may look different at that time.
Also, this version of DNGC 8.6 RC doesn’t recognize the new 9MP Small Raw mode from the D810 so you’ll have to shoot full-res 36MP images to work with them in LR.  Adobe has said this will be corrected in the final versions of the products, probably in a few weeks.

  • RAW NEF files imported into Aperture from a Nikon D70 are dark

I imported one roll of images straight from the CF card from my Nikon D70 into Aperture.
I also imported them into Nikon PictureProject. (the current application I use)
All the NEF's in Aperture are darker than the NEF's in PictureProject. Has anyone else seen this issue?
Also, any NEF that I have previously edited and saved in Nikon Capture Editor, do not display any of the changes when imported into Aperture. Interesting that the Finder shows the thumbnail correctly. Has anyone else seen this issue?
    Thanks, Scott K.

I've imported a few of the NEF files I've gotten from my D2X, and for the most part, they look fine. A little darker than when displayed in Adobe Bridge and ACR, but not that much darker. This is probably just the way the image converter is interpreting the RAW data. A couple of minor levels adjustments for me, and they look fine.
As for Aperture not "seeing" the changes made to a RAW file in Nikon Capture. That may be due to the way Capture applies its changes to the file. If when you make a change, Capture simply adds the adjustments to a side car file, etc., and doesn't change the original RAW file (which it should never do), then Aperture is only reading the original RAW data. The side car info is not understood by Aperture. At least not now.
This is pretty much the same way ACR works.

  • IPod 5G picture import from Nikon D70

I have the iPod 5G and I am wondering if there is a way for me to shoot a picture with my Nikon D70 and have the picture go directly into my iPod. I do not care where it goes as long as it is there. If there is a way please let me know. Thanks.

    Comp.Guy
From camera to ipod through the connector it's pretty slow, but if you get a card reader the Belkin Hi-Speed USB 2.0 15-in-1 Media Card Reader/Writer(Model No. F5U249ea) amazon do them, is the one i know definately works with the ipod connector, it's bus powered so know batteries or mains needed, plus it's usb-2 so it's alot faster than doing it from the camera, if you do it this way you can put another memory card in your camera and keep shooting, and put the full one in the card reader-to iPod for transfer in the bag. then swap them over and carry on until you've finished shooting, fastest and easiest way.
    Hayden
No worries, it will definately store the file, if you copy what ive written above about the card reader, it'll take any memry card and save your batteries, also if you can change settings onn the camera fiddle around with them to see if you can make a compatible format!

  • Cannot import RAW files from Nikon D70

I have an iMac G5 running Leopard 10.5.2. When I try to import to iPhoto '08 from my Nikon D70, I get a message that says "The volume for DSC-xxxx.NEF cannot be found." The program then stalls and I have to force quit to get out of it. This happens whether trying to import photos from a card reader or from a desktop folder. I've tried re-installing both iPhoto and NIkon software to no avail. Any suggestions?

  • I imported some pictures from my cameras memory card to iPhoto and now i want to transfer them back to memory card

I just got my iMac and I just wanted to copy some pictures from my camera's memory card to my computer. turns out 'importing pictures' meant totaly removing the pictures from my memory card. How can I transfer the pictures back to my memory card?
    More info:
I used Dynex Compact Memory Card Reader and put my memory card in it to connect to the usb plug
    I have a Canon Camera
    I am using iPhoto

    Hi.
FYI and future reference, importing pictures does not have to mean removing them from the memory card or camera.
When you plug in a memory card and open iPhoto to import your pictures, there will be a dialog box that opens and asks if you'd like to "Keep" the imported photos on the card, or delete them.
Apparently you selected the option to delete them.
In any case, in order to move them back to the card, you *should* be able to plug the card into your Dynex reader, after which the card should mount and display on the desktop. Then, open iPhoto and simply drag the photos from there and into the memory card.
You may need to recreate the file and folder structure on the card so the camera can find the files when you wish to view them.
    I hope this is helpful.

  • .NEF files from Nikon D70

I am new to this, but, how can I (or CAN I?) open a "raw"

automatically saves the files as .NEF files.
    Thanks,

FW does not support RAW files.
Open it through Bridge and Camera Raw, then bring in a jpg or
    tiff
version into FW. Or use the Image processor in the Bridge
    tools menu to
save jpeg or tiff versions of multiple files.
If you don't have Bridge, then set your D70 to record in jpeg
    format, or
RAW plus jpeg. Note that the jpeg file created in this
    combination
setting is not a super high quality file.

  • Importing Pictures from Camera-Where are they in iPhoto?

    Hi-
We just bought a new Canon SD1000 camera. When I plug it into my iMac to download the pictures, the software that came with the camera pops up instead of iPhoto, and I can never find my new pictures in iPhoto. I can see them if I go out to Finder and then Pictures and then they're in a folder with today's date on them, but they're not there in the library in iPhoto. I can drag them over onto my desktop and then into the library, but it seems like that must be defeating the purpose somehow. I would like to set up a good organizing system from the start for our pictures, but I'm kind of at a loss. If I could figure out a system before we go on vacation next week, that would be great! Thanks in advance for any advice.

    pkaufman:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. First look at Terence Devlin's excellent treatis on iPhoto's folder structure. It describes where the photos go when imported. Each import ends up as a roll (select By Roll in the View menu). In iPhoto's preferences you can set one item to show the last x number of roll directly under the Library icon in the Source pane.
Expand the Library icon in the Source pane and make sure each of the year icons under it are checked. If not no pictures with dates in those years will be displayed. Also in the View menu are the Sort options. If you select any sort other by roll then the rolls will not be displayed. You can also select ascending or descending. If you select ascending the the roils and their contents will be listed oldest to newest. So the last roll imported will be at the bottom.
You can experiment with those options to see which one will work best for you.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • How to view pictures from usb without uploading it to iphoto

Im new to macbook pro from pc...i used to view photos from usb or sd card without importing it to computer...all i have to do is insert the sd thru usb and double click on one of the pictures and click the arrow to view the next picture.when im done i simply eject it.but in macbook pro (mountain lion)i have to double click the thumbnail and close it and double click another thumb nail to view another picture using the preview.i dont want some photos to be imported to iphoto just to view by slideshow.thanks

There are a couple options. First, you can choose Edit -> Select All and open all the images in Preview. Then you can navigate between images in Preview. Another option is to choose one image and press the space bar to open Quicklook, then press the up or down arrows to move between images.

  • Problems transferring photos to iPod from Nikon D70 and Finepix S602 Zoom

I've been having some difficulties getting a clean transfer of photos from both the D70 and the S602. (Yes, I know the latter is not on the supported list, but the D70 is.)
The first couple of attempts worked fine (both on S602). Transferred 16 photos (9.8 MB) and 13 photos (15.2MB). One from a CF card and one from SmartMedia.
However, the third time it went wrong and not only did the transfer fail but all previously transferred photos apparently disappeared.
Short panic and one reset later the photos are back, but the third roll a) claims to contain only a subset of the photos and b) isn't browseable. Delete is the only option. Further attempts have the same problem, but manually stopping part way through is more successful, so I was able to deal with it in batches. But this is a real pain.
Same problem arises with the D70. But with a 1GB CF is even more painful to manage.
There seems to be little consistency in how much can be successfully transferred before a problem arises. Sometimes it is breaking after 15 shots and a few MB. Other times I can get more transferred, for example, 101 MB (38 photos) or 61 photos (60MB).
I tried switching the D70 to PTP mode (the S602 doesn't support that) and had more success. Everything was going well until it hit 118 photos (299MB) and then it stopped, with the 119th photo showing up as a question mark. This is repeatable. No need to reset this time, so I wonder if it is the same problem.
All the photos successfully transferred are accessible from the PC, but it would be really nice to get it all working more smoothly. Any suggestions?
      Windows XP

This is weird, when I connected the iPod to my computer it opened iTunes, and I had to do all the stuff you do the first time, but this time I checked 'Automatically add photos' or whatever as well. So, then it started to put them on my iPod but I pressed skip because I didn't want like over 770 pictures on my iPod, just the ones I would pick... so then, it updated the songs and everything, that was great but I got my hopes up too soon and figured I'm in, but no, I still get the same message when I try to upload photos... ahh, please help!
